Everyone faces difficulties in their life. Daniel Kish was born with a special eye illness and lost his eyesight before he was only 14 months old.
Soon after, however, he started to do an amazing thing. He learned to make clicks (咔哒声) in his mouth to help him move around. Kish now moves about using sonar (用声音导航). He is so good at it that he can ride a bicycle by himself on public roads.
He started the organization World Access for the Blind (WAFTB) in 2000, teaching others how to use sonar. In the interview with National Geographic, he explains how the sonar works. “When I make a click sound, it produces sound waves. These waves reflect (反射) and return to my ears. My brain then deals with the sound and turns it into pictures in my mind. It’s like having a conversation with the environment.”
Kish feels it is exciting to ride a bike using sonar, although he needs to click twice a second, much more than he usually does. “It may sound a bit dangerous to move around the world in this way,” he says. “But most people in the world are afraid of things that they imagine. I love hiking and mountain-biking. I go almost everywhere. And I never fell down and hurt myself.”
He is happy to be able to help more blind children to improve their life. Seeing isn’t in the eyes. It’s in the mind.

Taking notes (笔记) is an important part of learning. Students listen to the teacher. They write down the important things. Or they use a computer. These days, many students take a computer to class to type (打字) their notes.
Some people think that using a computer is better. People type faster than they write. That means they can write more. If you can type fast, you can type every word the teacher says.
Computers are becoming very common in classrooms. Almost every student in university has a computer small enough to take to class in order to type notes. Fewer students write things down. So there is a trend in schools now to spend less time on teaching kids how to write. Schools are moving away from teaching younger students how to write by hand. Many people see no need for writing by hand.
However, studies advise that it is good to write things down. When people can’t write every word, they have to think about it more. They have to pick out what is important. And the act of writing seems to help them to remember. Studies show that people who write down their notes remember the information better. A new study, done by Princeton University and the University of California, found that students who took notes by hand learned more than those who used a computer. In the study, 65 university students listened to the teacher and took notes with pens or computers. Then they did tests about how well they remembered and understood the lesson. Results show that pen users do better than those who took notes with their computers.
9 People think it’s better to use a computer to take notes because they can ________.
A. get more useful information B. find everything on computer
C. type faster than they write D. get every word the teacher says
10. If we say something is a “trend”, we may mean it is “becoming ________”.
A. common B. simple C. possible D. important
11. The writer tells us it is good to write things down by ________.
A. telling us an interesting story B. asking and answering questions
C. giving us a piece of advice D. showing the results of a study
12 What can we learn from the passage?
A. Schools won’t teach students how to write by hand.
B. It’s important for students to learn how to take notes.
C. Students need to take a computer to class in university.
D. Writing the things down can help us to remember.
D
Standing at the foot of the big mountains, I know that real adventure (冒险) often starts with beautiful things in the nature (自然). Everyone has their own favorite place, and I also want to find mine.
Last month I went to a beautiful mountain with great expectation. Along the way, I was so excited that I couldn’t wait to watch the fantastic view (风景). However, when I arrived there, I found there were so many people and the noisy sounds made me very sad. I expected to feel the beauty of nature in a quiet place, but now it was much too noisy.
But I didn’t give up and went on climbing the mountain. As I walked on, there were fewer people and the view became more and more beautiful. When I reached another place called Mount Greenview, I saw a place full of green plants and colorful flowers. The sense of peace was growing up from the bottom of my heart at that moment. Then I started climbing. I couldn’t wait to see more. The view from the top made me feel like I was in Alice’s Wonderland.
After enjoying the view for a while I decided to go on my journey and headed for a quiet lake. Along the way, I was so happy that I even sang a song. The water there was so clear that I could even see the beautiful stones in the lake. Ducks swam slowly and quietly. I rested on the grass and enjoyed the nice moment.
This trip shows me that we can find beautiful things in places we don’t think of. Sometimes, looking for a great place is as good as getting to that place. So stop waiting and get moving to enjoy the beautiful view as soon as possible.
13. Which was the first place the writer visited?
A. A place filled with noisy people. B. Mount Greenview.
C. The top of the mountain. D. A quiet lake.

C. The view was so common that the writer felt nothing special.
D. The view was so terrible that the writer wanted to leave.
15. Which shows the changes of the writer’s feelings best in the passage?
A. B. C. D.
16. What can we learn from the writer’s trip?
A. Mountains are always the best place to find beautiful things.
B. Singing songs can make the journey more enjoyable.
C. People can find beautiful things in unexpected places.
D. Getting to a great place is more important than looking for it.

Ants are everywhere. We usually feel angry about them. However, these little ones also teach us something.
Never give up.
Have you noticed that when something is in front of ants, they do not sit down or become sad? They just keep going.
One day, I watched a small ant taking a bug (小虫) back to its nest (巢穴). A leaf in the way was a big problem, but the ant was not giving up. It tried very hard to work out a way. Finally, the ant got that bug over the leaf and into the nest.
Ask for help.
Think about it: have you ever seen an ant move something too big by itself? That never happens. When a load (负荷) is too big, the ant signals (发信号) to the others for help.
Why don’t we do more of this? Sometimes, we are just too afraid to ask someone to share the load. Sharing can make our lives much easier.
Think winter in summer.
Ants know there are seasons. They collect food and build the nest all through the summer, even when they still have enough to eat. So when the cold days of winter come, the ants can stay in their warm nest and never worry about being hungry. They plan for their lives!
41. What got in the way of the ant when it was taking a bug?

42. Why don’t we ask others for help to share the load sometimes?

【5题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段“When I make a click sound, it produces sound waves. These waves reflect (反射) and return to my ears. My brain then deals with the sound and turns it into pictures in my mind. It’s like having a conversation with the environment.”
