Essential Tips for Renting a Car in Germany
Planning to rent a car and fly down the German motorway? Gather top tips here and find the best rental car for your trip through Germany.
Quick Tips
Search for rental cars before you fly to Germany, and book your car in advance. You will get better rates than booking upon arrival. German cars usually come with a manual transmission (手动挡). If you prefer an automatic transmission, ask the rental company and most can accommodate you. Rental cars are available at all airports and most major rail stations as well as locations in major cities.
Driver’s Requirements
To rent a car in Germany, you need a valid (有效的) driver’s license from your home state or province. Visitors may also consider getting an International Driving Permit as a companion document. However, it is not required for Germany. If you would like to continue to drive after six months to one year in Germany, you must obtain a German license. The legal driving age in Germany is 18, but usually, drivers have to be over 21 to rent a car.
Charges
Base rates vary wildly depending on the length of time of rental, the age of driver, destination, and location of rental. Shop around to find the best price. Note that charges usually don’t include the 16% Value Added Tax(VAT), registration fee, or any airport fees. These additional fees may equal up to 25% of the daily rental.
1. Why is it advised to book a car before arriving in Germany?
A. To keep the car available in major cities.
B. To get a relatively low price of car rental.
C. To enjoy a high standard of rental service.
D. To rent a car with an automatic transmission.
2. What is necessarily required to rent a car in Germany?
A. Obtaining a valid German license.
B. Having one-year driving experience.
C. Being at least twenty-one years old.
D. Getting an International Driving Permit.
3. Which factor may influence the base rental charges?
A. VAT. B. Parking fee.
C. Registration fee. D. Rental duration.
根据Quick Tips部分的“Search for rental cars before you fly to Germany, and book your car in advance. You will get better rates than booking upon arrival. (在飞往德国之前搜索租赁汽车,并提前预订。这样你会得到比到达后预订更好的价格。)”可知,提前预订租车可以获得更优惠的价格,所以建议在到达德国之前预订汽车是为了得到相对较低的租车价格,故选B项。
【2题详解】
细节理解题。根据Driver’s Requirements部分的“The legal driving age in Germany is 18, but usually, drivers have to be over 21 to rent a car. (德国的法定驾驶年龄是18岁,但通常情况下,司机必须年满21岁才能租车。)”可知,在德国租车,司机通常要年满21岁,这是必要条件,故选C项。
【3题详解】
细节理解题。根据Charges部分的“Base rates vary wildly depending on the length of time of rental, the age of driver, destination, and location of rental. (基本费率因租车时长、司机年龄、目的地和租车地点的不同而有很大差异。)”可知,基本租金会因租车时长、司机年龄、目的地和租车地点的不同而有很大差异,所以租车时长(Rental duration)会影响基本租金,故选D项。
B
Labubu dolls are hard to find. Even at the giant flagship store of their maker, Pop Mart, in Shanghai, customers are told they need to wait a week or longer. The lovely creatures, sold in “blind boxes” so that buyers don’t know which one they will get, are loved not only by Chinese children but also by famous people at home and abroad.
For many years, Chinese shoppers liked to follow foreign trends in fashion, make-up, hotels and other areas. But now, they are turning to local luxury brands (奢侈品品牌), high-end make-up labels and milk tea shops. Furthermore, many of these brands are winning fans in other countries. Chinese brands are beginning to penetrate international markets with their unique products.
As consumers have become more careful about spending, cheap but good-quality local brands have grown popular. But lower prices are not the only reason for the love of Chinese brands. In many cases shoppers are paying the same or even more for local products. For instance, the best-selling drinks at Chagee, a tea chain (连锁) that went public in New York in April, are tea lattes (拿铁) that sell for 15-20 yuan ($2-3), almost the same as Starbucks’s top drinks in China.
Chinese consumers are also now far less crazy about foreign goods simply because they are foreign. The rapid rise of Laopu proves that. Instead of copying Western style, both Laopu and Chagee have shown off their Chineseness. It has worked. The competition is not limited to China. Pop Mart now has stores in more than 20 countries, including at least 37 in America. Chagee will have more than 1,300 shops outside China by the end of the year, up from almost none four years ago.
Experts believe that the more foreign recognition these brands get, the more popular they become within China. The popularity on Western social media over Labubu dolls is thought to have made them even more famous at home.
4. What’s the purpose of the first paragraph?
A. To introduce the topic. B. To present an argument.
C. To offer a solution. D. To give an opinion.
5. What does the underlined word “penetrate” in paragraph 2 most likely mean?
A. Avoid. B. Enter. C. Ignore. D. Destroy.
6. What does the example of Chagee’s tea lattes show?
A. Price matters most to consumers.
B. Cheap local brands are popular in China.
C. Some local brands achieve high pricing.
D. Chinese tea chains outperform foreign ones.
7. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
A. Pop Mart: A Symbol of Chinese Toys
B. Why Milk Tea Brands Are Popular in China
C. From Foreign Trends to Local Love: Chinese Brands Shine
D. The History of Chinese Luxury Brands
A 5. B 6. C 7. C

根据第一段“Labubu dolls are hard to find. Even at the giant flagship store of their maker, Pop Mart, in Shanghai, customers are told they need to wait a week or longer. The lovely creatures, sold in “blind boxes” so that buyers don’t know which one they will get, are loved not only by Chinese children but also by famous people at home and abroad.(拉布布娃娃很难找到。即使在制造商Pop Mart位于上海的大型旗舰店,顾客也被告知需要等待一周或更长时间。这些可爱的动物被装在“盲盒”里出售,买家不知道他们会得到哪个,它们不仅受到中国孩子的喜爱,也受到国内外名人的喜爱)”并结合下文对中国消费者由对外国产品的喜爱转为青睐本土产品现象的介绍推知,本段的作用是引出文章话题。故选A。
根据第二段中“Chinese brands are beginning to penetrate international markets with their unique products.(中国品牌正开始以其独特的产品penetrate国际市场)”中的“with their unique products(以它们独特的产品)”可知,此处是指中国品牌以其独特的产品打入国际市场。
根据第三段中“ In many cases shoppers are paying the same or even more for local products. For instance, the best-selling drinks at Chagee, a tea chain (连锁) that went public in New York in April, are tea lattes (拿铁) that sell for 15-20 yuan ($2-3), almost the same as Starbucks’s top drinks in China.(在许多情况下,消费者为当地产品支付相同甚至更高的价格。例如,今年4月在纽约上市的茶连锁店Chagee最畅销的饮料是茶拿铁,售价15-20元(2—3美元),几乎与星巴克在中国的顶级饮料相同)”推知,Chagee的茶拿铁的例子表明一些本土品牌实现了高价。故选C。
【7题详解】
主旨大意题。通读全文,并结合第二段“For many years, Chinese shoppers liked to follow foreign trends in fashion, make-up, hotels and other areas. But now, they are turning to local luxury brands (奢侈品品牌), high-end make-up labels and milk tea shops. Furthermore, many of these brands are winning fans in other countries. Chinese brands are beginning to penetrate international markets with their unique products.(多年来,中国消费者喜欢在时尚、化妆品、酒店和其他领域追随外国潮流。
C
"Regrets, I've had a few. But then again, too few to mention,” Frank Sinatra chanted in his 1969 hit "My Way”. The song's idea is attractive: that anyone can just declare what's done is done and move on. Some take the declaration a step further and claim they have no regrets at all. Whether a boast or an actual attitude, "no regrets” suggests that life can and should be lived without looking through the rear-view mirror.
Easier said than done, though.Author Daniel H. Pink launched the World Regret Survey, the largest ever survey on the topic. With his research team, Pink asked more than 15,000 people in 105 countries, "How often do you look back on your life and wish you had done things differently?” 82% said regret is at least an occasional part of their life; roughly 21% said they feel regret "all the time.” Only 1% said they never feel regret.
If you are of the "no regrets” type, you might think that all this regret is a recipe for unhappiness. But that isn't the case. True, being overwhelmed by regret is indeed bad for you. But going to the other extreme may be even worse. To rid yourself of regrets doesn't free you from shame or sorrow; it leads you to make the same mistakes again and again. To truly get over our guilt requires that we put regret in its proper place.
As uncomfortable as it is, regret is an amazing cognitive (认知) achievement. If today your relationship with your partner has soured, your regret might mentally take you back to last year. You would remember your being mean and sensitive, and then imagine yourself showing more patience, being kind instead of hurtful at key moments. Then you would fast-forward to today and see how your relationship could be progressing instead of languishing.
But regret doesn't have to be left unmanaged. The trick is to acknowledge it and use it for learning and improvement. You can be honest with yourself about what went wrong and use that knowledge to enjoy better relationships in the future.
8. What should we do if we have had a bitter quarrel with a close friend according to Frank Sinatra?
A. Attract more people to your argument. B. Send him/her a letter of apology.
C. Boast about being more reasonable. D. Forget about it and just let it go.
9. Why did the author mention the World Regret Survey?
A. To introduce the work of author Daniel H. Pink.
B. To provide statistical evidence that regret is widespread.
C. To show that the "no regrets” attitude is rare and unrealistic.
D. To compare different people's attitudes towards regret.
10. What does the underlined word "languishing” in paragraph 4 most probably mean?
A. Improving. B. Healing. C. Showing up. D. Breaking up.
11. What does the author intend to tell us in this passage?
A. "No regrets” is a realistic and healthy attitude towards life.
B. It is better to feel overwhelming regret than to feel none at all.
C. Regret can be beneficial if people know how to handle it properly.
D. It is impossible and unwise for people to live a life without any regrets.
D 9. C 10. D 11. C
根据第一段“The song’s idea is attractive: that anyone can just declare what’s done is done and move on. Some take the declaration a step further and claim they have no regrets at all.(这首歌传达的理念颇具吸引力:任何人都可以宣称过往已成定局,然后继续前行。有些人更进一步,声称自己毫无遗憾)”可知,根据Frank Sinatra的观点,在与朋友争吵后,我们会忘了它,随它去。故选D项。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据第二段“Easier said than done, though.Author Daniel H. Pink launched the World Regret Survey, the largest ever survey on the topic. With his research team, Pink asked more than 15,000 people in 105 countries, “How often do you look back on your life and wish you had done things differently?” 82% said regret is at least an occasional part of their life; roughly 21% said they feel regret “all the time.” Only 1% said they never feel regret.(不过,这说起来容易做起来难。
由文章第四段中“If today your relationship with your partner has soured, your regret might mentally take you back to last year. You would remember your being mean and sensitive, and then imagine yourself showing more patience, being kind instead of hurtful at key moments. Then you would fast-forward to today and see how your relationship could be progressing instead of languishing.(如果今天你和伴侣的关系恶化了,你的遗憾可能会在精神上把你带回到去年。你会记得自己既刻薄又敏感,然后想象自己在关键时刻表现出更多的耐心,变得善良而不是伤人。然后你会快进到今天,看看你们的关系是如何发展的,而不是languishing)”可知,instead of前后为转折关系,前文说关系需要有进展,而有进展的反面则是关系没有进展,进而结束关系,或者关系破裂,故推测languishing意为“关系结束,破裂”。与Breaking up“破裂”意思相符。故选D项。
【11题详解】
推理判断题。根据最后一段“But regret doesn’t have to be left unmanaged. The trick is to acknowledge it and use it for learning and improvement. You can be honest with yourself about what went wrong and use that knowledge to enjoy better relationships in the future.(但遗憾并非无法管理。关键在于承认它,并利用它来学习和改进。你可以坦诚地面对自己哪里出了错,并利用这些知识在未来享受更好的人际关系)”可知,作者想在这篇文章中告诉我们如果人们知道如何正确处理后悔,它可能是有益的。故选C项。
D
In Costa Rica, even small areas of tree cover can reduce the presence of invasive (入侵的) mosquito species known to spread diseases like dengue fever (登革热), according to a Stanford University-led study published on May 28th in Landscape Ecology. The findings can inform land use decisions and tree preservation strategies in rural areas, according to the researchers.
Using field observations and satellite data on land cover for an area of forests, farms, and residential areas in southern Costa Rica, the researchers found the presence of the Aedes albopictus mosquito, a dengue vector (媒介), decreased in areas with more tree cover while the total number of mosquito species increased. More species demand more space and resources, making it harder for an invasive species to find unoccupied space or resources.
Costa Rica has numerous mosquito-borne diseases and two invasive mosquito species serving as vectors. The forests surveyed in the study hosted a high diversity of mosquito species, none of which were the dengue vector Aedes albopictus. Residential areas, by contrast, had much fewer mosquito species and were far more likely to hold the invasive, disease-spreading species. Agricultural areas fell somewhere in between, with outcomes seemingly tied to the intensity and type of land use.
Natural habitats exist alongside agriculture and development in rural areas. In Costa Rica and beyond, these areas can provide pathways to conserving biodiversity. The study shows that protecting trees can help conserve biodiversity while also reducing the likelihood of disease spread. That’s good news in the face of warmer temperatures, changes in rainfall, and human activity that are enabling the spread of mosquito-borne illnesses to new places.
The researchers emphasize the need to do more research to understand how other vector species react to increased tree cover. “We need to know more about what drives dengue in rural areas,” said study senior author Erin Mordecai, associate professor of biology in Stanford University. “This work shows forests and tree cover can reduce risk, but identifying other land use types that sustain vector populations is the next frontier for controlling this rapidly expanding disease.”
12. How does increased tree cover prevent invasive mosquitoes?
A. By reducing dengue vectors.
B. By increasing species competition.
C. By upgrading human habitats.
D. By ensuring agricultural outputs.
13. What can be known about residential areas?
A. They have lower mosquito diversity.
B Their land use is more intensive.
C. Their living conditions are poor.
D. They host fewer disease risks.
14. What is the significance of the study?
A. It helps agricultural development.
B. It solves the problem of disease spread.
C. It offers a potential win-win strategy.
D. It leads to the study of climate patterns.
15. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Mosquito-borne Disease Risks Increase
B. Protecting Trees Improves Life Quality
C. Disease-spreading Species Are Coming
D. Tree Cover Limits Invasive Mosquitoes
B 13. A 14. C 15. D
根据第二段中“the researchers found the presence of the Aedes albopictus mosquito, a dengue vector (媒介), decreased in areas with more tree cover while the total number of mosquito species increased. More species demand more space and resources, making it harder for an invasive species to find unoccupied space or resources(研究人员发现,在树木覆盖较多的地区,作为登革热媒介的亚洲虎蚊的数量减少,而蚊子物种的总数增加。更多的物种需要更多的空间和资源,这使得入侵物种更难找到未被占用的空间或资源)”可知,增加的树木覆盖通过增加物种竞争来阻止入侵蚊子,因为更多的物种会争夺空间和资源,让入侵物种更难生存。故选B项。
【13题详解】
细节理解题。根据第三段中“Residential areas, by contrast, had much fewer mosquito species and were far more likely to hold the invasive, disease-spreading species(相比之下,住宅区的蚊子物种要少得多,而且更有可能存在入侵性的、传播疾病的物种)”可知,住宅区的蚊子物种多样性较低。故选A项。
根据第四段中“The study shows that protecting trees can help conserve biodiversity while also reducing the likelihood of disease spread(研究表明,保护树木有助于保护生物多样性,同时也能降低疾病传播的可能性)”以及第五段中“This work shows forests and tree cover can reduce risk, but identifying other land use types that sustain vector populations is the next frontier for controlling this rapidly expanding disease(这项工作表明,森林和树木覆盖可以降低风险,但确定其他维持媒介种群的土地利用类型是控制这种迅速扩散的疾病的下一个前沿领域)”可知,这项研究既保护了生物多样性,又降低了疾病传播的风险,可推理出这项研究提供了一个潜在的共赢策略,故选C项。
通读全文,并根据第一段中“In Costa Rica, even small areas of tree cover can reduce the presence of invasive (入侵的) mosquito species known to spread diseases like dengue fever (登革热), according to a Stanford University - led study published on May 28th in Landscape Ecology(根据斯坦福大学领导的一项研究,5月28日发表在《景观生态学》杂志上,在哥斯达黎加,即使是小面积的树木覆盖也能减少已知会传播登革热等疾病的入侵性蚊子物种的存在)”可知,文章主要围绕树木覆盖对入侵蚊子的限制作用展开,所以D项“Tree Cover Limits Invasive Mosquitoes(树木覆盖限制入侵蚊子)”适合作为文章标题。

上文“AI should be seen as a powerful tool designed to assist and enhance human capabilities, rather than replace them.(人工智能应该被视为一种强大的工具,旨在辅助和增强人类的能力,而不是取代它们)”说明人工智能是一种工具,旨在辅助人类。
下文“In healthcare, AI can assist in early disease diagnosis and personalized treatment plans, significantly improving patient outcomes. In education, AI can provide personalized learning experiences, helping students learn at their own pace and in their own style.(在医疗保健领域,人工智能可以帮助早期疾病诊断和个性化治疗计划,显著改善患者的预后。在教育领域,人工智能可以提供个性化的学习体验,帮助学生按照自己的节奏和风格学习)”列举了人工智能在医疗、教育等多个领域的应用,说明人工智能对不同行业的影响。空处为本段的主旨句,所以B项“人工智能有潜力改变各个行业”是对后文内容的概括,空处与后文为总述和分述的关系。故选B。
【18题详解】
下文“One major concern is the potential for job displacement, particularly in sectors where tasks are highly repetitive or data-driven. Besides, AI systems can continue errors present in their training data, leading to unfair results.(一个主要问题是工作岗位流失的可能性,特别是在任务高度重复或数据驱动的行业。此外,人工智能系统可能会继续存在训练数据中的错误,从而导致不公平的结果)”说明人工智能带来的风险,而前文第三段主要讲述了人工智能的优势,因此空处应起到承上启下的作用,引出人工智能的风险。所以F项“虽然人工智能带来了巨大的好处,但它也带来了重大的风险”符合语境,既承接了前文的优势,又引出了后文的风险。故选F。
【19题详解】
上文“Besides, AI systems can continue errors present in their training data, leading to unfair results.(此外,人工智能系统可能会延续训练数据中存在的错误,导致不公平的结果)”说明人工智能的一个风险,下文“as AI systems often require large amounts of personal data to function effectively.(因为人工智能系统通常需要大量的个人数据才能有效运行)”解释了该风险的原因,空处和前文为并列关系,进一步说明人工智能系统存在的问题,并和下文形成因果关系。 故选A。
上文“Governments and organizations should establish clear guidelines and regulations to ensure that AI is developed and used responsibly.(政府和组织应该制定明确的指导方针和法规,以确保人工智能的开发和使用是负责任的)”说明需要制定规则确保人工智能合理使用,空处应进一步说明具体做法。

In our weekly staff meeting, our editor Ashley was not pleased with the quality of our reporting. “Our readership is way down. We need better stories for this Thursday’s school newspaper. Does anybody have any ideas?” she said.
I handed her my article about our basketball team beating Deerfield High School the previous night by one point. “Sports stories are fun,” she said, “but not good enough for the front page. We need something to really get people ‘s attention.”
After our meeting, we left the newsroom together and heard someone screaming, “Perry is missing!” Perry was a big red parrot and had been our school mascot (吉祥物) for ten years. He played an important role in students’ lives, both in and out of class. He had also been a constant presence at school events, inspiring a sense of unity among students.
Everyone gathered around Perry’s empty cage, heartbroken. Suddenly, a student from the crowd came over and showed me a photo. “You’re a reporter for the school paper, right? I happened to take this yesterday,” he said. In the photo was a Deerfield High School basketball player with something large hidden under his shirt around the size of a parrot.
“He must have stolen Perry to get back at us for winning the game!” Ashley cried. We hurried back to the newsroom, agreeing to run the photo on the front page with the headline “Deerfeld Stole Perry.” “This is just the story we need. Everyone will read it,” Ashley said confidently.
After she left, I took a closer look at the photo. The clock in the background read 4:15 pm, but our game against Deerfield hadn’t started until 4:30 pm. Why would the boy have taken Perry before we even played? An uneasy feeling came over me that we might have falsely accused someone.
I went to Perry’s usual caretaker to ask if he knew Perry was missing. ”He’s not missing. He’s retired. He’s ready for some quieter days,“ he said. Learning the truth, I immediately told Ashley and suggested writing a story to say goodbye to Perry.

To my surprise, Ashley insisted on reporting the “Deerfield Stole Perry” story. “This is the very story we need to attract more readers,” she argued. To convince her, I defended that if we wrote this article, we would be telling a lie. Noticing her hesitant expression, I further explained the potential harm it would cause to the player and our, paper ‘s reputation. After some discussion, Ashley finally gave in, “OK, let’s try with real stories.“ Then I went to gather all the necessary information to write an article about Perry and the precious memories we shared over the years.
On Thursday, the paper came out with the headline “Bye-Bye, Perry” on the front page. Soon, it sparked heated discussions among students about Perry. Many were disappointed with Perry’s sudden departure, but were comforted by the fact that he was in good care. The story also evoked sweet memories of Perry. Some students even requested to share their stories of him in our paper! Seeing the story’s success, Ashley came to me and said sincerely, “You are right! It’s a good story.” Her words brought me a great sense of fulfillment. Indeed, true stories might not always draw attention, but they have the power to touch and connect.

Pink.
B To provide statistical evidence that regret is widespread.
B. Their land use is more intensive.
C. Their living conditions are poor.
D. They host fewer disease risks.
14. What is the significance of the study?
A. It helps agricultural development.
B. It solves the problem of disease spread.
C. It offers a potential win-win strategy.
D. It leads to the study of climate patterns.
15 What can be a suitable title for the text?
A. Mosquito-borne Disease Risks Increase
B. Protecting Trees Improves Life Quality
C. Disease-spreading Species Are Coming
D. Tree Cover Limits Invasive Mosquitoes
