Once, there were two women who lived in the same village. They both grew the same plants in their own gardens. One woman called Lisa was hard-working. She watered her plants and took care of them every day. The other woman, named Rebecca, didn’t do quite as much. On the other hand, she only watered her plants when the weather was sunny and fine. She always just let her plants grow however they wanted.
One evening, there was a big storm with heavy rain. It destroyed (毁坏) many of the plants. The next morning, when Lisa woke up, she found that all her plants fell down to the ground because of the rain. However, when she got to Rebecca’s garden, to her surprise, she saw that all of the plants were still standing in the garden. Rebecca’s plants lived through the storm.
How did this happen? The plants of the relaxed woman learned to do things on their own from the very beginning. They grew deeper roots (根) and made places for themselves in the soil (土壤). They could stand up strong on their own, even during a storm. But since Lisa did everything for her plants, they never learned to live through any difficulties.
This story reflects an important truth about life. It is the same for us. Sooner or later, we have to let go and become independent (独立的). If we just let others do everything or solve our problems for us, we’ll never learn to do things on our own. We won’t develop the strength to face challenges alone. Just like plants, we grow stronger when we learn to stand independently.
6. How did Rebecca care for her plants?
A. By working hard every day. B. By cutting off dead leaves.
C. By making places in the soil. D. By watering them sometimes.
7. What happened to Lisa’s plants after the storm?
A. They grew stronger. B. They all fell down.
C. They looked good. D. They needed more water.
8. Why did Rebecca’s plants stand up strong?
A. Their roots were deep. B. The storm was not heavy.
C. Lisa helped them. D. They were special plants.
9. What does the underlined word “they” in the 3rd paragraph refer to?
A. Lisa’s plants. B. Rebecca’s plants.
C. Everyone’s difficulties. D. Rebecca’s gardens.
10. What lesson can we get from the story?
A. Storms are dangerous. B. Never help anyone.
C. Being independent is important. D. Gardening is easy.

Zhang Jiaqi, 15, lives in Suzhou. Last October he saw lots of takeaway boxes in the school bin and felt bad. “I was part of the problem,” he said. So he drew a simple “green card” with five rules: no single-use plastic (一次性塑料), no food waste, walk when the trip is under two kilometres, buy only what is needed, and turn off all lights that no one is using. He stuck the card on his desk and asked two classmates to check his score every Friday. To his surprise, his small game soon became a class challenge: thirty students joined, drew their own cards and kept weekly “green scores”.
Saving the planet sounds huge, but Jiaqi began with tiny steps. He put a folding spoon and a metal fork in his lunch box. When dining time came, he bought noodles in his own bowl and got a one-yuan discount from the canteen lady. Every Friday he took the plastic he had accidentally collected to the art room, where pupils turned bottles into flowerpots and made big bags from old T-shirts. In winter he set his phone to remind him to close windows when the heater was on. The alarm rang at 21:30 each night. As a result, in six months his family’s electricity bill (电费单) fell by 9%.
The biggest test came during the Spring Festival. Relatives arrived with armfuls of gift baskets wrapped (包装) in shiny plastic. Jiaqi gave them cloth bags he had made from his mother’s old curtains and explained the “green card”. The cousins laughed, but they used the bags and even took the idea back to their own cities.
By the end of the school year Jiaqi had kept 92 kg of waste and saved 180 yuan that he could use by himself. “I used to think one person counts for nothing,” he says. “Now I know one times many is everything.”
11. What made Jiaqi start thinking about living in a green way?
A. A science lesson. B. The big cloth bags.
C. An electricity bill. D. The rubbish at school.
12. Which is true about the “green card” in paragraph 1?
A. It is not successful in the class. B. It is made from 92 kg of waste.
C. Jiaqi drew it to ask others to follow. D. Others copied it to make their own.
13 What does the underlined word “discount” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. A lower price. B. A free meal. C. A better seat. D. A late bill.
14. Why did Jiaqi mention the Spring Festival?
A. To explain gifts are beautiful. B. To show a challenge is also a chance.
C. To describe a traditional dinner. D. To tell about family waste during dinner.
15. What is the best title for the passage?
A. Electricity Bills Rise in Winter B. One Card, One Year, A Success
C. The Good Way to Greet People D. A Way of Making Green Cards

In 2005, a small red robot named Toddler surprised the whole world. Toddler was only as tall as a six-year-old child, and it had no eyes or mouth, just two straight legs and a simple computer brain. Still, it could learn to walk in only twenty minutes—about six hundred steps—without any help from people. At first it moved slowly and often lost balance (平衡), but after every step it studied the ground, changed the way it moved its knees and arms, and tried again. Soon it walked naturally like a real child, and even climbed gentle slopes (斜坡).
Toddler was shown to the public at the big American Association for the Advancement of Science meeting in February 2005. Two other walking robots stood beside it, but Toddler was the smartest. Older walking robots used one motor for each part. They needed ten times more power because they fought against gravity (重力) all the time. Toddler was different. It let gravity help its body fall forward, then quickly placed the next foot under its center, just like a human. If it started to fall down, it reacted in less than one second and caught itself before hitting the ground.
The team leader, Michael Foster, explained why they built Toddler. “We want robots to do jobs that are too dangerous or dirty for people,” he said. In the future, walking robots could enter burning houses to look for people who are hurt, climb broken buildings when accidents happen, or explore the far-away planets. The same program might also help doctors build better artificial (人工的) legs for soldiers, or children who have lost their legs. Foster believes that today’s Toddler is only the first step. “Give us ten more years,” he smiled, “and robots will walk, run, jump, and carry heavy packs beside our soldiers and save them.”
Today, many middle-school students dream of joining this exciting work. Who knows? Maybe the next great helper robot will be designed in your own classroom.
16. Which is true about Toddler in Paragraph 1?
A. It looked like an old man. B. It could walk without learning.
C. It could walk for 600 minutes. D. It could learn to walk by itself.
17. What is the difference between Toddler and the older robots?
A. Older robots used ten motors. B. Toddler had a motor for every part.
C. Toddler used less power to walk. D. Toddler hit the ground more often.
18. What could robots do in the future?
A. Walk without computers. B. Work as a real doctor.
C. Teach like a human. D. Help people do more things.
19. What’s the purpose of the last paragraph?
A. To let readers continue to read. B. To encourage students to take part.
C. To advise schools to buy robots. D. To show science courses are interesting.
20. Where is the text probably taken from?
A. A story book. B. A traveling booklet.
C. A diary entry. D. A science magazine.
第二节 阅读七选五(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
Travel is more than taking photos and buying gifts. When we leave our daily lives behind, we open the door to a bigger world. ___21___ In this passage I will explain why middle-school students should be encouraged to travel.
First of all, travel trains our life skills. On a trip we must read maps, ask strangers for help and plan the money we have. ___22___ These problems may be hard, but they teach us to think quickly and make wise decisions. The earlier we practise these skills, the more independent we will become.
Second, travel helps us understand different cultures. A classmate of mine once laughed at a visitor who ate with his hands. But after he had a tour to India, he saw that eating by hand is a traditional and popular way to show respect for food. ___23___ Travel teaches us that “different” does not mean “wrong”.
Third, travel makes textbook knowledge (知识) alive. A geography lesson about mountains becomes real when you stand on Mount Huangshan at sunrise. ___24___ When knowledge comes with sights, sounds and feelings, it is kept in mind longer and deeper.
Some parents worry that they spend too much money traveling. In fact, a one-day visit to a nearby town or even a planned walk through an old street is also travel. ___25___ What matters is not the distance (距离), but the open eyes and mind.
In short, travel is a hidden class that improves our skills, widens our minds and strengthens our knowledge. Let’s pack our curiosity and start the journey—near or far—this weekend!
A. It doesn’t have to be expensive or far.
B. It is a living textbook that you never learn in class.
C. Suddenly, the cold numbers on the page jump into life.
D. The history you have learned turns into colourful stories.
E. Language difficulties, wrong turns or missed buses often happen.
F. If we have enough money, we should travel abroad as often as possible.
G. Without such experiences, we may think our own habits are the only right ones.

C. Lisa helped them. D. They were special plants.
9. What does the underlined word “they” in the 3rd paragraph refer to?
A Lisa’s plants. B. Rebecca’s plants.
C. Everyone’s difficulties. D. Rebecca’s gardens.
10. What lesson can we get from the story?
A. Storms are dangerous. B. Never help anyone.
C. Being independent is important. D. Gardening is easy.
【答案】6. D 7. B 8. A 9. A 10. C

11 What made Jiaqi start thinking about living in a green way?
A. A science lesson. B. The big cloth bags.
C. An electricity bill. D. The rubbish at school.
12. Which is true about the “green card” in paragraph 1?

C. Jiaqi drew it to ask others to follow. D. Others copied it to make their own.
13. What does the underlined word “discount” in paragraph 2 mean?
A. A lower price. B. A free meal. C. A better seat. D. A late bill.
14. Why did Jiaqi mention the Spring Festival?
A. To explain gifts are beautiful. B. To show a challenge is also a chance.
C. To describe a traditional dinner. D. To tell about family waste during dinner.

A A story book. B. A traveling booklet.
C. A diary entry. D. A science magazine.
