In November, our school went to iFLYTEK for a study tour to get a deeper understanding of artificial intelligence (AI).
The teacher first introduced some common knowledge and real-world uses of AI. For example, it beat humans in some difficult chess games. And ChatGPT could pass math exams with high scores. However, most students questioned the ability of AI. Some classmates even said, “I don’t think AI can do things better than humans in many ways.” But after visiting, we came to believe that AI may be able to do things that humans may not expect.
Then we experienced iFLYTEK’s Starfire model. To test its uses we suggested a Chinese writing topic about happiness that we had been thinking about for a long time. At first, Starfire gave us an ordinary article, so we weren’t happy with it. One student said, “This article has no standout things. It should be more detailed.” After many suggestions and tries, the AI’s final article was really good. And it won our applause (掌声).
After that, the teacher introduced digital (数字的) humans to us, which amazed us most. The digital humans can not only talk naturally, but also use real human body languages and make facial expressions. They do this with the help of special technology (技术) that reads humans’ faces and copies humans’ moves. And it makes them seem real.
We all saw the power of AI in different fields, but we also realized that it still has a long way to go. As AI technology continues to develop, it will surely meet with new difficulties.

A. Boring. B. Excellent. C. Short. D. Difficult.

C. Students believe that AI is perfect.
D. Students will beat AI successfully.
15. What is the structure of the text?

“City bu city” is a hot word created by foreign blogger Baobaoxiong. It is used to ask if a place feels like a big, fashionable city.
Thanks to China’s visa-free transit policy(过境免签政策), many foreigners, including Baobaoxiong, are visiting China and sharing their travel videos online. This policy started in 2013 and firstly allowed travelers from 54 countries to stay for 72 hours in seven main cities. Now, travelers can stay for 144 hours in 41 places across 19 provincial(省级的)areas. According to the National Immigration Administration of China(国家移民管理局), the number of foreigners entering China through this policy rose by 266 percent in the first season of this year compared to the same period last year.
Irish YouTube Luke said, “This is the whole reason why we decided to come to China—we wanted to see exactly what it’s like for ourselves.” He found Chengdu “pretty good, beautiful, and modern”, which was very different from what he had heard about China from Western media.
A new media account called Yuyuantantian, part of China Media Group, looked at 100 travel videos made by foreigners. They found that foreigners used to visit famous spots like the Palace Museum and the Great Wall. Now, they prefer everyday activities like shopping at markets, riding shared bikes, and joining square dancing in parks. These activities give foreigners a closer look at daily life in China.
16. What makes the 2024 visa-free policy better than the 2013 policy?
A. Longer stay and lower cost.
B. More activities and lower cost.
C. More traveling places and lower cost.
D. Longer stay and more traveling places.
17. What does “this” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. We decided to come to China.
B. China’s visa-free transit policy.
C. Chengdu is pretty good, beautiful, and modern.
D. We wanted to see exactly what it’s like for ourselves.
18. Why did Luke decide to travel to China?
A. To shoot videos about China.
B. To find the best city in China.
C. To see what China is really like.
D. To show the world the real China.
19. According to Yuyuantantian, how does the change in foreigners’ travel choices help?
A. It corrects Western media’s false reports.
B. It supports the development of countryside.
C. It helps the world understand the real China.
D. It reduces the pressure on famous tourist spots.
20. Where can we probably read the article?
A. In a newspaper. B. In an advertisement.
C. In a science magazine. D. In an encyclopedia.

The pirates (海盗) and I moved for the treasure (宝藏). I was tied up, following Silver, who held the map.
“There are three tall trees in the right place. The treasure must be there! Go ahead”
Then he turned to me, “Jim, don’t dream to run away!”
Just then, a high shaking voice began to sing, “Fifteen men on the dead man’s body …”
The pirates all began trembling (颤抖). The colour went from their six faces, and they looked at each other like scared children.
“It sounds like Flint!” Someone cried
“No!” Silver managed to shout out the words, “There’s no ghost.”
Then the voice came again, “Fifteen men on the dead man’s chest (胸膛)…”
“Those were Flint’s last words before he died,” cried one of the pirates.
“I’m here to get the treasure,” shouted Silver, “and I was never afraid of Flint in his life and I’ll face him dead.”
His words calmed the others. “Yes, that’s right,” one of them said.
The high shaking voice disappeared on the sea. All the men were happy again and began to walk on. We reached the first tall tree, but it was the wrong one. So was the second. The third was not far away. The pirates hurried to get their hands on the treasure which lay somewhere under the tree.
Silver turned his eyes on me with a deadly look. I could read his thoughts—he hoped to take the treasure kill every honest man on the island and sail away.
“Go ahead, boys!” Silver shouted and the men began to run. But no more than ten meters farther, they stopped. Before us was a large hole, not a new hole, because grass grew on the bottom.
There was no treasure—the seven hundred thousand pounds had gone!
21 How many people went for the treasure?
A. 6 B. 7 C. 14 D. 15
22. Why were the pirates scared when they heard the high shaking voice?
A. Because they thought it was Flint’s ghost.
B. Because they thought it was a police’s voice.
C. Because they thought it was Silver’s angry shout.
D. Because they thought it was the voice of a wild animal.
23. We can infer that Silver is a(n) ________ person.
A. cold-hearted B. honest C. unconfident D. kind
24. Based on the story, what can we infer about the map that Silver held?
A. It was stolen from Jim.
B. It was completely correct.
C. It was drawn by Flint himself.
D. It might be drawn in a wrong way.
25. We can guess that at the end of the story, the pirates will ________.
A. fight among themselves
B. continue to search for Flint
C. find the treasure somewhere else
D. give up and leave the island quickly

Have you ever noticed when waiting at the supermarket checkout counter (结账柜台), other lines always seem to be moving faster than yours? ____26____ It also gives out some advice on picking the fastest line.
The US mathematician (数学家) Dan Meyer believes that a cart (手推车) full of things doesn’t tell the whole story. “Every person needs some time to say hello, pay, say goodbye and leave,” he said. And that time is about 41 seconds each person. Each product in the cart only takes 3 seconds. ____27____ But if there is only one person in front of you, with 50 items in the cart, the waiting time is 191 seconds. You do the math and you will find it’s smart to pick someone with a full cart.
____28____ For example, if they are elderly people, they are likely to move more slowly. Getting to know the items in the customers’ (顾客) carts is also important. For example, four bottles of the same milk will go faster than four different products.
____29____ According to the US science writer Robert Samuel, around 90 percent of people are right-handed. That means they may choose lines on the right. ____30____
Remember to tell your mother these skills, and you will successfully have a quick meal.
A. Another wise way is going left.
B. It’s important to know who the customers are.
C. Some people are truly faster and some people are slow.
D. So moving to the left will give you a better chance of finding a faster line.
E. Now a report by the New York Times does research on the math and psychology (心理学) of living.
F. This means if there are five people in front of you, each with 10 items in their carts, the waiting time will be 355 seconds.

The smartphone has many powerful functions. We can use it to make calls, send messages, search for information, and do online shopping. It is like a small computer that we can carry everywhere.
I recommend it for two main reasons. First, it makes our life much more convenient. Second, it helps us learn anytime and anywhere. The smartphone really makes our world smaller and our life better.
