What will the future be like? Will robots think like humans? Will computers become smarter than us? Probably no. But here are some things that scientists say that are happening or will happen in 10-30 years from now, according to the BBC.
Self-driving Cars
There are some machines on the car. They can make the car follow the rules of the road and keep a safe space from other cars. This would make the road safer. You can even take a short rest when the car drives itself. In the future, self-driving cars would be used by many people.
Digital Money (数字货币)
Now we can use Wechat Pay or Alipay to shop. That means we are already using digital money. People only need to take a phone wherever they go. Using these ways is much easier than looking for money in our pockets. However, some people don’t like using it. They think it is not safe enough. In fact, it is not true at all. ▲ .
Virtual friends (虚拟朋友)
Virtual friends can be a life-size copy of your best friend. It will be possible to talk to a life-sized hologram (全息图) of friends. A projector (投影仪) will create a picture of your friend sitting next to you. It will be just like they are there, except you can’t have a touch on them.

What will the house of the future look like? Could it have gardens on its walls, or a pool with fish for dinner? Architects believe that they are all possibilities. The only thing for sure is that the houses will be as green as possible.
The tree house
Many architects in the world would like to build a “tree house”. Like a leaf, the surface of the house collects sunlight during the day. The energy can be used to heat water, produce electricity, and even create fresh air for the home. The “root” (根) of the house is deep under the ground. It uses the soil to keep the home’s temperature.
Meals at home
This design is perhaps as much about the future of food production as architecture (建筑风格). It has gardens on the outside wall of the house. People can plant tomatoes, carrots and green tea on them. So every day in the morning, you just need to walk outside and collect your meals.
Learning from the past
Looking to the future isn’t the only way to be green. Sometimes, ancient techniques (古老的技术) can also help cut down energy use. For example, a chimney (烟囱) can be a useful air-conditioner because it is easier for hot air to flow out at the chimney.

However, some people choose to stay and try to solve the problem. A robot named Robo is one of the few left on Earth. His task is to help the people staying on the earth find new ways to produce (生产) clean energy.
Robo works every day in the old city of New York. He has a small team of humans and other robots working with him. Together, they collect old machines (机器) and try to fix (修理) them to use as energy sources. Robo’s best friend is a small robot named Spark. They often work together and share ideas.
One day, Robo and his team discover an old underground lab. Inside, they find a machine that can turn sunlight into a strong energy source. But the machine is broken. Robo is determined (决心) to fix it. He spends days studying the machine and trying different ways to fix it. Finally, he succeeds!
When the machine is fixed, it starts producing a lot of clean energy. This gives hope to the people on Earth. They realize that they can still find ways to their problems without leaving the planet. Robo becomes a hero, and his story spreads (传播) across the world, inspiring (鼓励) others to work together and find new energy ways.

Welcome to life in 2045! You get up in the morning and look into the mirror (镜子). You look like a 20-year-old. Because science finds good ways to keep people young and healthy, many people of your age could live to be 120. Look, you are not old at all.
When you get dressed, you say to your shirt, “Turn red.” It becomes red in 2045!
On the way to the kitchen, you want to call a friend. Your phone is by the window because it gets its energy from the sun. But you don’t need to pick up the phone. You can just touch (触摸,碰) your jacket to make the call.
It’s breakfast time. You reach for the milk, but your fridge says, “Don’t drink that!” It knows the milk is old, and tells the supermarket to send you a new bottle. Ten minutes later, it is sent by a drone (无人机).
When you leave for work, lights turn off by themselves. Your home goes into “sleep” to save energy. In 2045, cars drive themselves, so you just tell your driverless car where to go.

No one knows what the weather is going to be like in the future, but many people think there are going to be some differences.
According to the scientists, one difference is that in many places it’s going to be much hotter and it’s going to rain less. Some countries in Africa are going to become very dry all year round, and people can hardly find food and water. In Southern Europe and the United States, it’s going to be less easy for plants to grow. People there are also going to have problems finding food in the future.
No one knows how much warmer it is going to be, but scientists say that the change is going to be at least 2℃. They say that the ice in the Arctic (北极) is going to melt in the next years and a lot of the animals there are going to die. There is also going to be more water in the sea, so cities near the sea are going to disappear.

Would you like to live in a city where buildings turn the lights off for you, and self-driving cars will find the nearest parking space themselves? Although it might sound a little far from you, living in a “smart” city like this could happen sooner than you think.
Great changes have taken place in towns that we have lived in for centuries, while completely new cities are being built. One such place is the city of Songdo. Every home there will have a “telepresence system” (远程呈现系统)—allowing users to control the heating and locks, take part in video meetings, and receive education, healthcare and government services. Around the city, escalators (自动扶梯) will only move when someone is on them, and offices and schools will all be connected to the system.
The great mind behind Songdo is from the company Cisco. In fact, technology companies around the world such as IBM, Siemens and Microsoft are already in the business.
About 75% of the world’s population will live in cities by 2050, so cities will need to be more modern to deal with the coming problems. “Making cities smarter is one way out, and I think this will in turn make cities greener,” said Dan Hill, head of a research company.

Smart Houses
③Are you bored with the color of your walls? Don’t worry! In the future, you won’t need to paint them. The walls will know what you like and what you don’t like. They can change colors by themselves! A computer network connects the walls to everything in your house, so your house can make you feel comfortable.
Smart Robots

Technology is developing fast and it has become an important part of our life. Then what will the world be like in the future?
3-D food will be both delicious and nutritious (有营养的). We can use 3-D printers to print some basic materials. 1 And we can go further. Scientists believe that we just need to turn on a printer in the kitchens and then we can enjoy our favorite food whenever we like.
2 5G network will allow many more people to get information. Big companies like China Mobile and China Unicom will start to offer 5G. It is said that 5G promises download speeds 10 to 20 times faster than 4G. For example, we can download a film within just 1 second. But with a 4G network, it takes a few minutes. There will be much bandwidth (宽带) and we can get unlimited information.
Underwater cities will provide more space. The earth is becoming more and more crowded. We may turn to underwater homes, which will be built as low as 15 kilometers below the sea. And the different temperatures at the different depths (深度) of the sea can be used to provide power for the homes.
3 For us common people on the earth, the dream of travelling around space will come true. In the coming years, spacecraft will be as popular as buses, trains and planes. We can leave our home and enter space to take an adventure (冒险). And even we will get used to living there.
A robot will be a part of life. Robots can do many of the same things as we humans do like driving cars. But they will be used in other areas as well. They will be able to think.

Another difference is that there are going to be more hurricanes and typhoons (飓风和台风). Scientists say they are going to happen all over the world, and many people are going to lose their homes.

Do you ever think about the universe? It’s amazing, isn’t it? How big is it? What’s out there? Are there other planets with life on them? We don’t know yet, but we’re trying to discover more.
Some people work hard to learn about the universe. They are astronomers (天文学家) and they look at the stars. Other people design (设计) and make machines and these machines travel in space.
