应用文参考范文:
Dear fellow students,
It is disheartening to see a large amount of untouched food being thrown away in our canteen every day. This behavior not only wastes precious resources but also goes against the virtue of thrift.
To address this issue, we propose the following actions. First, please only order what you can finish. We encourage you to take a "see-before-you-choose" approach to avoid over-ordering. Second, let's act as role models. When you see wasteful behavior, a friendly reminder can make a difference. Lastly, we suggest carrying your own reusable tableware to reduce single-use plastic waste, contributing to a greener campus.
Let's join hands immediately to eliminate food waste. Remember, saving food is not a slogan but a responsibility. Start from now, start from ourselves.

The long-anticipated day finally arrived. The sky above Greenfield’s central park was dotted with kites of all shapes and sizes, but none stood out like theirs. As they carried the dragon kite to the starting line, people turned to stare — some with admiration, others with curiosity. Jake felt a nervous excitement bubbling inside him. Liam, clutching the string reel, gave him a reassuring nod. "Remember," Liam said, "you handle the launch, I'll guide it up." Jake took a deep breath, his hands steadying the kite as the wind began to pick up.
When their kite took flight, the crowd erupted in cheers and applause. The dragon soared as if coming to life, its colorful tail rippling like flames against the blue sky. But just as the kite climbed highest, a sudden gust twisted the string, sending the dragon into a wild spiral. Jake’s heart dropped — until he noticed Liam calmly adjusting the tension, his artist’s hands moving with unexpected precision. "Now, Jake!" Liam shouted. Together, they pulled and released in perfect rhythm, guiding the kite into a magnificent recovery dance. In that moment, Jake realized their friendship had become like the kite — tested by winds, but stronger when held by both hands.

In the 7th grade during cultural week, the teacher asked us to talk about what makes our heritage special. I thought my answer would be simple. I’ve always told people that I’m half Peruvian and half Bolivian. It was quite different from my classmates who proudly answered that they were 100% Colombian or Venezuelan. When asked to talk about how I embrace my cultural identity, I began to feel stuck. I have lived in Florida my entire life. English is my primary language and my Spanish, as a poet beautifully explained in a poem, “is a phantom limb (幻肢): reaching for a word and only finding air.”
When I reflected on how I grew up, the only difference was in the background details. Since I was born,we’d traveled to visit my parents’ hometowns at least once a year. One thing that always stood out to me was how mirrored my mom and dad’s families were. They each had the stereotypical, sizeable families consisting of many relatives which I perceived as a great contrast to my four-membered family.
Their lifestyle was unforgettable and impressive. My two aunts would spend most of the day in the kitchen preparing full-course meals. In Peru it was no different, my grandmother basically lived in the kitchen, making sure every family member had their preferred plate. Sunday is the dedicated family day when everyone comes together for lunch, with no uncle, great-aunt, or distant cousin ever being a stranger.
If further down in my school career I get asked about my cultural identity, I would know. I would reflect the Peruvian-Bolivian heritage that makes up who I am through my family who live in faraway countries. My cultural experience has driven me to be proud of the heritage. My cultural identity is a huge part of who I am today.
24. What can be inferred about the author from paragraph 1?
A.He dismissed self-identity crisis. B.He was proud of her culture.
C.He spoke poor Spanish. D.His friends were mostly mixed-race.
25. What is the difference between the author’s family and his parents’ families?
A.The economical lifestyle. B. The household size.
C. The educational background. D. The eating habits.
26. What possibly impressed the author most about his parents’ families?
A. The emphasis on family values. B.The habit of living in the kitchen.
C.The preference for Peruvian food. D.The passion for festive gatherings.
27. What shapes the author’s cultural identity?
A.The pride in his heritage. B.The heritage in his hometown.
C.The experience in the school. D.The effect from his family.

Postmates, an American delivery company, has built a robot, called Serve, which was designed to make short-distance deliveries in cities.
To know what's going on, Serve has a laser radar(激光雷达) sensor on top, in which spinning lasers let it detect objects around it and know how far away they are. Also, behind each artificial eye is a camera, with six more imaging devices spread around the robot. Inside it is another sensor that allows Postmates to know if there is a package in there.
"One of our key decisions early on was to rely heavily on the robot's ability to see the environment," says Ali Kashani, the vice president for robotics at Postmates. Since the sidewalk is "a very chaotic environment", he points out, the robot needs to be able to take it all in and figure out what to do. This robot, and many like it, also must be able to signal their intentions to the pedestrians. For that, it has a number of approaches. One is using its eyes; another is a colorful light ring that goes around the top. "When it wants to make way for a pedestrian, it will use its eyes and look down,"he explains. It can also use the lights on the top as a turn signal, which is obvious, and also look left and right when it's turning left and right.
"Using eye movements and other silent signals is a good idea,"says Aaron Steinfeld, a professor on human-robot interaction. Serve is intended for sidewalks and Steinfeld says that environment is challenging. People usually walk fast while staring at a smartphone. For a robot, that's a lot. "We have active research on robot moving socially around walking people," he says. "And it's really tricky to do this well."
Postmates plans to use Serve in Los Angeles at first, and that its intended task is to move small objects over short distances. The robot can travel 30 miles on one charge and is able to carry 50 pounds.
28. What is the specific function of the additional sensor that Serve has inside its body?
A. To monitor package condition.
B. To detect if a package is inside.
C. To measure package weight.
D. To detect movement around.
29. According to the text, how does Serve primarily detect and understand its environment?
A. By heavily counting on its ability to see.
B. By using its advanced hearing sensors.
C. By following pre-programmed routes only.
D. By communicating directly with pedestrians.
30. What's the major challenge for robots on sidewalks mentioned by Professor Aaron Steinfeld?
A. The weight of the packages they have to carry.
B. The limited range of 30 miles on a single charge.
C. The behavior of people walking fast while looking at their phones.
D. The inability of sensors to work in rainy weather.
31. What is the main purpose of the passage?
A. To introduce Postmates'robot Serve and its key features.
B. To describe the challenges robots face when operating on urban sidewalks.
C. To explain the technical specifications of Postmates' delivery robot Serve.
D. To discuss the importance of human-robot interaction in technology development.

The extinction of the largest dinosaurs to walk the Earth may have played a critical role in creating an environment that helped fruits evolve ( 进化), thereby indirectly shaping the evolution of our own fruit-eating ancestors, according to new research.
More than 66 million years ago, when the world still had these ecosystems engineers, they greatly changed their environments by knocking down trees and eating high volumes of vegetation. After their extinction, the forests grew back thicker, seeds and fruits increased substantially in size.
Researchers have assumed this happened because in thicker forests, competition for light stimulated trees to grow taller and faster and trees grown from larger seeds had a head start. As a bonus, investing in plentiful and tasty fruit made them more likely to be digested and distributed by bigger animals. The trees moved farther away from their mother trees were very delighted because they didn’t have to put up with the same diseases that their mothers had. That’s an evolutionary incentive.
However, there hasn't been much evidence to support this theory. To address this, the research team created a model where seed and fruit size increased as a response to the darker forest understory that followed dinosaur extinction. The data suggested about 35 million years ago, seeds started getting smaller, because land animals had once again become sufficiently large to have a similar effect on the forests.
“The evolutionary pressure for seed size to increase began to decline. Thus, we were able to explain the trends in seed size over time without considering external influences such as climate change,” Researchers said.
Who’s the latest seed and fruit size influencer? Humans. Where human settlement has led to selective logging practices, light levels in the understory are similar to those of the dinosaur forest. Yet, if humans stop playing the role of dinosaurs and aren't replaced by other giant engineers, we could expect a forest darkening and consequent restart of the race for light, with the evolution of larger seeds regaining an advantage over smaller ones.
32. What contributed to the smaller seed sizes before dinosaurs’ extinction?
A.Enormous trees. B. Sufficient light.
C. Animals’ intake. D. Climate change.
33. Which of the following is closest in meaning to “incentive” in paragraph 3?
A. Origin. B. Proof. C. Characteristic. D. Motivation.
34. What may influence the fruit size in modern society?
A.The evolutionary pressure.
B.The selective lighting system.
C.The continuous deforestation.
D.The genetically engineered seeds.
35. What is the best title of the passage?
A. Dinosaurs: The Ecosystem Engineers.
B. Humans: The Modern-Day Dinosaurs.
C. Love fruit? Thank Dinosaur Mass Extinction.
D. Feel surprised? Dinosaurs Shaped Fruit Diversity.

One of the most valuable investments you can make is in yourself. 36 In reality, these excuses often stem from undervaluing personal growth. Self-investment isn’t about grand gestures—it’s choosing actions that enrich your life, whether learning a skill, exploring a new place, or nurturing meaningful relationships. Even small efforts, like reading a book, spending time in nature, or attending a workshop, can spark significant growth. 37
To begin, start with simple and achievable steps. 38 For instance, join a fitness class, enroll in an online course, or try a creative hobby like painting. Workshops and seminars not only build skills but also connect you with like-minded peers. Focus on forming habits that support your goals—whether waking up earlier, practicing mindfulness, or dedicating 30 minutes daily to learning. Equally important is letting go of habits that hold you back, such as procrastination or negative self-talk.
39 Completing a course or mastering a hobby boosts confidence, proving you can overcome challenges. Unlike temporary jobs, the skills you develop—like critical thinking or communication—stay with you, creating lifelong stability. Additionally, investing in relationships strengthens your support network, offering joy and resilience during tough times.
Don’t wait for the “perfect moment.” If you’re on the fence about a new venture or opportunity that would enrich your life, don’t pass it up by continuously telling yourself that you’ll do it “someday.” 40 Instead, ask yourself: “Will this add value to my life?” If the answer is yes, act now. Don’t wait any longer to get started.
A. After all, tomorrow is another day.
B. Watch small efforts blossom into lasting rewards.
C. Tomorrow after tomorrow, yet tomorrow never arrives.
D. With this perspective, the process becomes straightforward.
E. Yet, many people delay this, claiming they lack time or money.
F. Identify activities that correspond with your interests and budget.

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Jake and Liam were both sixteen and lived in the lively community of Greenfield. They had been inseparable as kids, spending countless afternoons exploring the woods and building shelters together. But as they grew older, their paths began to separate. Liam’s growing fame as a brilliant painter, with his parents proudly displaying his artwork during the weekly Yard-Sale Day, made Jake feel left out. The admiration Liam received from the community only deepened Jake’s sense of loneliness. Though there had been no argument, the bond they once shared with each other seemed to fade.
One sunny afternoon, as Jake was fixing his bike in the driveway, Liam approached him with an unexpected idea. “Hey, Jake! How about teaming up for the annual Kite Day competition this year?” Liam asked, his eyes shining with excitement.
Jake looked up, surprised. “Us? Together? Are you sure?” he replied, doubt clear in his voice.
“Of course You’re great at figuring out how things work, and I can handle the design. We’d make an unbeatable team,” Liam said confidently, extending his hand. His enthusiasm was hard to resist.
After a moment’s hesitation, Jake shrugged(耸肩)and smiled. “Alright, why not? Let’s do it,” he said, shaking Liam’s hand. Liam’s smile widened, and he gave Jake a hearty high-five.
In the weeks leading up to the Kite Day competition, the two friends threw themselves into the project. They spent hours thinking of ideas, drawing designs, and gathering materials. Liam’s artistic talent brought their kite to life with bright colors and detailed patterns, while Jake’s good understanding of how things fly ensured the kite would soar(高飞)effortlessly.
Working side by side, the boys found themselves reconnecting. They laughed over old memories and shared stories about their dreams for the future. The tension that had once hung between them began to disappear.
Together, they transformed humble materials into an amazing masterpiece — a kite shaped like a dragon uniquely detailed and painted in bright, eye-catching colors.
