My name is Grace Collins, and i'm excited to share my experiences with you tonight. For the past ten years, i've worked to protect and restore natural ecosystems, particularly in a small island nation in the pacific. One of my proud projects was creating a community program where local Fishermen could work together to monitor and protect the environment. These partnerships have shown me that successful conservation isn't just about using the latest tools or technologies, it's about building trust, respecting local traditions and finding ways to solve problems. Together, i've learned so much from the people i've worked with, and their knowledge has been key to bringing real change. Later in my talk, i'll introduce some new techniques we've recently developed to help speed up restoration efforts. But first, i'd like to tell you more about the work we did and what we learned along the way after my presentation. I'd be happy to take any questions. Good evening, everyone. My head was so full of digital noise that it felt like my brain was about to blow a fuse (导火线). I had no greater power of concentration than the lifeless stare of a goldfish. As a writer, I was ashamed to admit that my love of books had been vitiated by a brain that simply could not sit still.
So, this year I committed myself to restoring books to the place that they held in my life before the Internet broke my brain.
My goal was 52 books: It seemed like an impossible task. A 400-page book will take the average person around eight hours to read. Finding the time to read was a challenge but here’s how I did it. I started with treating my mind like a misbehaving child, who needs some discipline. Then I decided that I would read for an hour or two at a time without distraction each day.
In The Distracted Mind, Larry Rosen says that the more we practice spending time away from our electronic devices, the calmer and more focused we become. And this is what I found. Again and again, I would gently bring myself back to the page, resisting the urge to reach for that screen, an experience that echoes Nikki Gemmell, who describes in On Quiet, how investing in a safe to lock away her family’s devices for long periods had opened up a space for deep reflection. For me, finding that quiet time meant finding time in my day just to read. It was like a date between me and my book. And it meant actively choosing to read at times when I normally would reach for my phone.
By reawakening my love with books, I created a sacred space where I could press pause and found inspiration, knowledge, reflection and escape. In our modern world, reading is a powerful and beneficial way for us to slow down and be ourselves.
24. What does the underlined word “vitiated” mean in Paragraph 1?
A. Removed. B. Weakened. C. Restored. D. Activated.
25. What was the author’s initial feeling about his goal of reading 52 books?
A. It was exciting and motivating. B. It was a goal set by someone else.
C. It appeared to be an impossible mission. D. It seemed achievable without much effort.
26 Why does the author mention two books in Paragraph 4?
A. To explain benefits of reading. B. To provide support for his own practice.
C. To recommend them to readers. D. To list disadvantages of digital noise.
27. What does the author want to convey in the text?
A. Books are what have made us.
B. Rejecting the Internet is a top priority.
C. To return to books is to reclaim our focus.
D. The quietest people have the loudest minds.

In recent years, the sharp increase in global rocket launches has transformed the sky, fueled by the rapid growth of the space industry. This creates major opportunities but also raises environmental challenges. Pollutants released during rocket launches and re-entry are left in the middle atmosphere, where they can damage the ozone layer (臭氧层) which protects Earth against harmful ultraviolet radiation.
Investigations into how rocket emissions (排放) affect ozone began more than three decades ago, but for many years the impact was considered minimal. As the frequency of launches continues to rise, this view is shifting. In 2019, only 97 orbital launches were recorded worldwide, but by 2024, the figure had climbed to 258, with projections pointing to continued rapid growth.
Unlike ground-level pollutants, emissions from rockets and re-entering satellites can stay in the middle and upper atmosphere up to 100 times longer, since removal processes such as precipitation do not occur at those heights. While most launches take place in the Northern Hemisphere, the atmospheric flow eventually distributes the pollutants globally.
Recently, researchers from ETH Zurich and the Physical Meteorological Observatory in Davos, in cooperation with Laura Revell’s international team at the University of Canterbury, used a chemistry-climate model to see how future emissions might impact the ozone layer by 2030.
With 2,040 annual launches by 2030 — roughly eight times the 2024 total — the model predicts that global average ozone thickness would decrease by nearly 0.3%. Seasonal losses could reach as much as 4% over Antarctica, where the ozone hole continues to reappear each spring.
While these reductions may appear small, the context is critical. The ozone layer is still recovering from the earlier loss caused by long-lived chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which were banned under the 1989 Montreal Protocol. Even today, global ozone thickness remains about 2% below pre-industrial levels, and the full recovery is not expected until around 2066.
But we believe a launch industry that avoids ozone-damaging effects is entirely possible: Monitoring rocket emissions and carrying out necessary and appropriate regulations are all key to ensuring that the ozone layer continues its recovery. This requires scientists, policymakers, and industry to work together.
28. What is the current view on rocket emissions?
A. Their impact will become severe. B. Their distribution is location-limited.
C. They will decrease at a faster speed. D. They can be removed by precipitation.
29. Why was the recent research on rocket emissions conducted?
A. To seek potential solutions. B. To look into their future effect.
C. To address climate change challenges. D. To figure out the leading contributors.
30. What is the function of paragraph 6?
A. To show protecting the ozone layer is possible.
B. To indicate the dark future of the space industry.
C. To argue that the model predictions are worrying.
D. To set standards for global average ozone thickness.
31. What can be a suitable title for the text?
A Global Rocket Launches Are Rocketing
B. Can the Ozone Layer Still Protect Earth?
C. Rockets Could Eat Away at the Ozone Layer
D. Can Ozone-damaging Effects Be Avoided?
D
For centuries, we’ve pursued happiness and meaning. But what does that leave out? As a social psychologist, I have dedicated my research career to a simple, but universal question: what makes for a good life, and how can we achieve it?
For much of human history, we have been presented with two possibilities: pursuing a life of happiness, or a life of meaning. Each of these paths has its benefits, but decades of psychological research have also revealed their limits.
Ask the Danes and Finns, who consistently rank among the happiest people in the world, what their secret is and they’ll tell you this: lower your expectations and be content with what you have. It sounds good, doesn’t it? But it leaves something out. It’s a bit like being a college student who only takes easy courses to be sure of getting good grades. Might there be more to life than simple pleasures and cozy comfort?
Then there’s the meaningful life. We often imagine that meaning flows from trying to change the world like Steve Jobs. Once again, the research shows that lowering your sights and focusing on the little things can offer a more achievable sense of meaning. Often people find it in routines like taking care of family, or volunteering in the community. But there is also a dark side to the pursuit of meaning: researchers have found that it can encourage people to draw sharp lines between those who belong in their group and those who don’t.
My research lab mapped out a third route to fulfillment: psychological richness. A psychologically rich life is one filled with diverse, unusual and interesting experiences that change your perspective; a life with twists and turns; a life that feels like a long, winding hike rather than many laps of the same racing circuit. Such experiences can make us tougher. Not only that, embracing the pursuit of psychological richness can make us less likely to regret: it matters less if the thing you did went wrong.
Perhaps no one said it better than Eleanor Roosevelt: “The purpose of life, after all, is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear.”
32. What is revealed about pursuing happiness or meaning?
A. They are valuable but not comprehensive.
B. They are sufficient for achieving personal fulfillment.
C. They are mainly promoted by specific cultural groups.
D. They are fully supported by decades of psychological research.
33. What problem may arise when people focus on meaningful routines?
A. Too much pressure. B. Harm to family bonds.
C. Lower personal joy. D. Less care for other groups.
34. Which person is living a psychologically rich life described by the author?
A. A student who only chooses easy courses to get good grades.
B. A graduate exploring the world through varied experiences.
C. A volunteer finding meaning in a fixed weekly routine.
D. A person achieving happiness by avoiding risks.
35. How does the author develop the argument in the passage?
A. By using personal stories to show how an idea changes.
B. By describing three different life philosophies neutrally.
C. By showing statistics to rank how satisfied people are with life.
D. By evaluating the limitations of two paths before offering an alternative.

It was a typical busy noon at the downtown fast-food spot. The smell of sizzling patties and crispy fries lingered (弥漫) in the air, and the place was packed with folks rushing to grab a quick meal. I’d just gotten off a long morning at work, and my stomach was empty as I finally reached the front of the line and got my order-a burger, fries, and a cold drink.
As I set the tray (托盘) down on a small table by the window, I glanced over and saw two firefighters in the corner. Their uniforms were heavy with faint spots, like they’d just stepped away from a smoky scene, and their boots still held a hint of damp from the morning dew. They stood in the back of the line, shoulders relaxed but eyes tired.
I was just about to pick up my burger-the cheese melted perfectly-when a loud, sharp siren (警报) cut through the noise of the restaurant. The two firefighters froze for half a second, and then moved. No hesitation, no exchange of words — just muscle memory. One grabbed his helmet off the nearby counter, the other adjusted his radio on his shoulder, and they turned toward the door, their steps quickening. I watched them go, and my fork paused mid-air.
My empty stomach served as a quiet reminder of how long I’d waited for this meal. I’d stood in that line for 15 minutes, my feet aching from the morning’s work. Giving them my lunch meant I would have to wait again-maybe another line, maybe my break slipping away faster. I bit my lip, staring at the tray. Then I thought of their uniforms, the spots, the way they’d act upon hearing the siren like it was a call they couldn’t ignore. They didn’t get to pause for a meal when emergencies hit. They’d probably go hours without eating, running from one call to the next.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
My hesitation melted away.

B
26. Why does the author mention two books in Paragraph 4?
B 25. C 26. B 27. C
根据第一段中“My head was so full of digital noise that it felt like my brain was about to blow a fuse (导火线). I had no greater power of concentration than the lifeless stare of a goldfish. As a writer, I was ashamed to admit that my love of books had been vitiated by a brain that simply could not sit still.
根据第三段中“My goal was 52 books: It seemed like an impossible task. (我的目标是52本书:这似乎是一项不可能完成的任务。)”可知,作者最初觉得读52本书的目标是不可能完成的任务。故选C。
【26题详解】
推理判断题。根据第四段中“In The Distracted Mind, Larry Rosen says that the more we practice spending time away from our electronic devices, the calmer and more focused we become. And this is what I found. Again and again, I would gently bring myself back to the page, resisting the urge to reach for that screen, an experience that echoes Nikki Gemmell, who describes in On Quiet , how investing in a safe to lock away her family’s devices for long periods had opened up a space for deep reflection.
通读全文,尤其是最后一段“By reawakening my love with books, I created a sacred space where I could press pause and found inspiration, knowledge, reflection and escape. In our modern world, reading is a powerful and beneficial way for us to slow down and be ourselves.
C
A. Global Rocket Launches Are Rocketing
B. Can the Ozone Layer Still Protect Earth?
C. Rockets Could Eat Away at the Ozone Layer
D. Can Ozone-damaging Effects Be Avoided?
A 29. B 30. C 31. C
根据第二段“Investigations into how rocket emissions (排放) affect ozone began more than three decades ago, but for many years the impact was considered minimal. As the frequency of launches continues to rise, this view is shifting.(关于火箭排放物对臭氧影响的研究始于三十多年前,但多年来人们一直认为这种影响微乎其微。然而,随着发射活动的频率不断增加,这种观点正在发生转变。)”可知,人们现在认为火箭排放物对臭氧的影响会随着火箭发射频率的增加而变得严重。故选A。
根据第四段“Recently, researchers from ETH Zurich and the Physical Meteorological Observatory in Davos, in cooperation with Laura Revell’s international team at the University of Canterbury, used a chemistry-climate model to see how future emissions might impact the ozone layer by 2030.(最近,来自苏黎世联邦理工学院和达沃斯物理气象观测站的研究人员,与坎特伯雷大学劳拉·雷维尔的国际团队合作,利用化学气候模型来研究未来排放量到2030年时会对臭氧层产生何种影响。)”
根据第五段“the model predicts that global average ozone thickness would decrease by nearly 0.3%. Seasonal losses could reach as much as 4% over Antarctica, where the ozone hole continues to reappear each spring.(该模型预测,全球平均臭氧层厚度将减少约 0.3%。在南极洲,季节性臭氧损耗可能高达4%,在那里,臭氧空洞每年春季都会再度出现。)”和第六段“While these reductions may appear small, the context is critical.(虽然这些降幅看起来不大,但其背后的背景情况却非常重要。)”可知,第六段指出了模型预测的背景非常重要;结合第六段“The ozone layer is still recovering from the earlier loss caused by long-lived chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), which were banned under the 1989 Montreal Protocol. Even today, global ozone thickness remains about 2% below pre-industrial levels, and the full recovery is not expected until around 2066.(臭氧层仍在从早期由持久性氯氟烃(CFC)造成的损耗中恢复当中,这些物质是在1989年的《蒙特利尔议定书》中被禁止使用的。即便到了今天,全球臭氧层的厚度仍比工业化前水平低约2%,而其完全恢复预计要到 2066 年左右。)”可知,其背景是臭氧层本身仍在恢复中,非常脆弱,并且预计要到2066年才能完全恢复,说明该模型预测是令人担忧的。故选C。
【31题详解】
主旨大意题。根据第一段“Pollutants released during rocket launches and re-entry are left in the middle atmosphere, where they can damage the ozone layer (臭氧层) which protects Earth against harmful ultraviolet radiation.(火箭发射和返回过程中释放的污染物会留在中间大气层中,在那里它们会损害保护地球免受有害的紫外线辐射的臭氧层。)”和第五段“the model predicts that global average ozone thickness would decrease by nearly 0.3%. Seasonal losses could reach as much as 4% over Antarctica, where the ozone hole continues to reappear each spring.(该模型预测,全球平均臭氧层厚度将减少约0.3%。在南极洲,季节性臭氧损耗可能高达4%,在那里,臭氧空洞每年春季都会再度出现。)”及全文内容可知,文章主要讨论了火箭发射激增对臭氧层的渐进性破坏。因此C项“火箭可能会侵蚀臭氧层”可以作为本文的最佳标题。故选C。
A 33. D 34. B 35. D
根据第二段“Each of these paths has its benefits, but decades of psychological research have also revealed their limits.(每一条道路都有其益处,但几十年的心理学研究也揭示了它们的局限性。)” 故选A。
根据第四段“But there is also a dark side to the pursuit of meaning: researchers have found that it can encourage people to draw sharp lines between those who belong in their group and those who don’t.(但是追求意义也有黑暗的一面:研究人员发现,它可以鼓励人们在他们所属的群体和不属于的群体之间划清界限。)”
根据第五段“A psychologically rich life is one filled with diverse, unusual and interesting experiences that change your perspective; a life with twists and turns; a life that feels like a long, winding hike rather than many laps of the same racing circuit.(心理丰富的生活是充满多样、不寻常和有趣的经历的生活,这些经历会改变你的观点;生活充满曲折;生活就像一次漫长而曲折的徒步旅行,而不是在同一赛道上跑很多圈。)”

上文“Through their encouragement and guidance, they help you to flourish, learn, and grow (在他们的鼓励和指导下,他们帮助你蓬勃发展、学习并且成长)”说明了成年人对青少年的积极作用,强调双方关系中的正面。下文“There might also be times when your relationship comes under extra pressure (生活中也可能有这样的时刻:你和他们的关系面临额外压力)”则转折到关系中的负面,因此空处需一个过渡句连接“正面”与“负面”。
上文“It’s normal for healthy relationships to break down occasionally (健康的关系偶尔出现裂痕是正常的)”说明了“关系出现问题很正常”这一观点。下文“The key to communicating well is to be open about your feelings but try not to use your words to wound or punish.(良好沟通的关键是坦诚表达感受,但尽量不要用你的话来伤害或惩罚)”指出怎样修复关系”,空处需要一个句子承接“出问题正常”并引出“修复很重要”。
上文“But by looking for things to feel grateful for, you can reflect on the positives in life, even in the toughest times.(但通过寻找值得感恩的事情,你能看到生活中的积极面,即使是在最艰难的时候)”提出“要心怀感恩”的建议。下文 “Building an attitude of gratitude takes time and practice (培养感恩的态度需要时间和练习)”说明感恩需要时间和练习。 故选A。
下文“It might also help to keep in mind that even though the adults in your life can seem all-knowing, they’re actually just ordinary people with strengths and weaknesses. (记住,尽管你生活中的成年人看起来无所不知,但他们实际上只是普通人,有长处也有弱点)”指出成年人也有弱点,由此可知,“你”应该理解他们并与他们共同成长。选项B “和父母一起成长”既涵盖“父母是普通人(也需学习)”,又呼应下文“Remember that your parents are learning, too!(记住,你的父母也在学习!)”。故选B。
上文“It might also help to keep in mind that even though the adults in your life can seem all-knowing, they’re actually just ordinary people with strengths and weaknesses. (记住,尽管你生活中的成年人看起来无所不知,但他们实际上只是普通人,有长处也有弱点)”引导“你”理解父母的不完美。下文“Often, they’re only trying to protect and guide you (通常,他们只是想保护和引导你)”进一步解释父母行为的初衷,空处需要一个句子衔接“父母是普通人”与“行为初衷”,说明父母的主观努力。选项E“很可能,你的父母正在尽他们最大的努力。”符合语境,承上启下。故选E。

Yours,
Li Hua
Dear Jim,
Thanks for your suggestion on using AI to finish the first draft of our paper. But after further consideration, I’m afraid it’s not a wise idea.
Firstly, it goes against the purpose of project-based learning, which is to cultivate critical thinking and teamwork. Moreover, AI is unlikely to accurately present our ideas, because it hasn’t “got involved in” our project.
So, I suggest we write the paper ourselves. We can start by brainstorming together. Then we can work independently on different parts, and combine our work.
Hope you can understand.
Yours,
Li Hua

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
My hesitation melted away.

I went back to the counter, only to find the manager was waiting for me.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
My hesitation melted away. I grabbed the tray and hurried after the two firefighters, calling out softly, “Excuse me!” They paused at the door, turning with slight surprise. I held out the tray, smiling, “You guys must be in a rush — take this. It’s not much, but it’ll keep you going.” One of them hesitated for a second, then nodded gratefully, taking the tray. “Thank you, really,” he said, before they rushed out into the street, the siren growing louder as they went. I stood there for a moment, my stomach still growling, but my chest felt light.
I went back to the counter, only to find the manager was waiting for me. He smiled warmly, holding up a new tray with a burger, fries, and a drink. “Saw what you did for the firefighters,” he said, handing it over. “This one’s on the house. We need more people like you.” I was shocked, then grateful, taking the tray. “Thank you so much,” I replied. As I sat back down by the window, biting into the burger, the taste felt sweeter than before. Sometimes, giving up a small thing didn’t just help others — it filled your own heart, too.
