Step 1 Leading in
1.Greet the class.
2.Show some pictures and then ask the students to make a conversation like:

Step 2 Work on 3a-3b
1.Ask the students to read the passage in 3a quickly and answer the question:In which country is it OK to be 15 minutes late for dinner?
2.Choose a student to give his or her answer.Then check the answer.
3.Ask the students to read the passage again and complete the chart in 3b.
4.Check the answers with the whole class.
Step 3 Work on 3c
1.Make the students role⁃play the conversation in 3c in pairs.In this part,student A is Teresa and student B is Marc.
2.Have a pair of students present their conversation to the class.
3.Ask the students to search for some rules of some countries.And then share with friends.
Step 4 Work on Grammar Focus
1.Let the students read the sentences in the Grammar Focus.
2.Explain the usage of “be supposed/expected to” and “It is+adj.+to do sth.”.
3.Show some pictures and ask the students to make sentences with “be supposed/expected to” and “It is+adj.+to do sth.”.
Step 5 Work on 4a-4b
1.Ask the students to complete the sentences with the phrases in the box in 4a.Then check the answers.
2.Ask the students to fill in the blanks with the correct forms of the words in brackets in 4b.Then choose a student to give his or her answers.
3.Check the answers with the whole class.
Step 6 Work on 4c
Ask the students to work in groups in this situation:A new student from England is going to take classes at your school.Make a list of advice with the things he or she is supposed to do.The advice may include:time,what to do for someone’s birthday,meeting people,visiting someone’s home,table manners,giving gifts.Then,ask several representatives to share their advice.

3.never和without都表示否定,同时出现在一个句子中表达肯定意义,意为“一定会”。
4.“It is+adj.+to do sth.”为固定句型,意为“做某事是……的”,此句型中It作形式主语,真正的主语是后面的动词不定式短语。
◇教学反思◇
本课时通过介绍哥伦比亚和瑞士的礼仪文化的不同,让学生学习了目标语言“be supposed to”和句型“It’s+adj.+to do sth.”,且学会了如何从文章中捕捉所需的详细信息并处理所遇到的问题。在语法方面,以练为主,以讲为辅。通过本课时的学习,学生进一步了解了一些国家的礼仪和对时间的看法,也加强了对中国文化的理解。老师在平时的教学中应该多多涉及跨文化交际方面的话题,从而使学生更好地理解学习英语的意义。
