As she is very outgoing, she’s very popular with others and has many friends. My friend Maria is tall, too, but she isn’t as tall as Lily. She has short black hair. She’s a very lovely fourteen-year-old girl, always wearing a smile on her face. But unlike Lily, she doesn’t sing much. She likes doing sports. Her favorite sport is football. Can you believe that? Not many girls like playing football. Like Lily and Maria, my friend Lisa is outgoing, too. She has golden hair, but she isn’t very tall. That’s OK because she’s just thirteen years old this year. She likes reading and spends a lot of her free time reading in her room. A Join our Math Game Club! Jay Stone rolled out of bed. He did a couple of wake-up exercises and then he went over to his mirror and looked at himself. “Not bad, Stone,” he said to himself with a happy smile. Maybe he wasn’t ready for Hollywood, but with his dark brown eyes, he had the looks that turned girls’ heads. He moved closer to check his teeth. “Perfect,” he thought. “Good enough for a toothpaste ad.” As his eyes moved down to his strong arms, he smiled again. The hours he spent in the gym and doing sit-ups had paid off. How proud he was! But suddenly, the smile froze. His eyes moved to his legs. They were too short for his body. Sitting, he was as tall as almost anyone. Standing, he had to look up at most of the boys and even many of the girls. Why didn’t his legs grow with the rest of his body? Where did his legs come from? He certainly didn’t get them from his parents. They were both quite tall. Looking through old family photos, he found the answer. It was his grandfather on his mother’s side. Thanks a lot, Grandpa! Of course, the kids at school all noticed Jay’s short legs and they had a nickname (外号) for him: Stubs! Almost no one called him by his real name, Stubs Stone. Jay didn’t like his nickname, but he had to accept it. Just think about the helpless situation! But the legs could do a lot of things. They were quick and strong. He could run faster than anyone else in Brewer High football team. Even at basketball, where the other players were much taller than him, they were still afraid of him because of his speed. Jay shook his head. “Stubs, Stubs Stone, the kid with stubby legs. Yeah, that’s me,” he smiled again with satisfaction. Suddenly, he heard his mother’s voice. “Jay! It’s breakfast time!” 19.What did Jay do after he got up on Monday morning? A.He did some housework. B.He took some family photos. C.He did some wake-up exercises. D.He watched TV for some time. 20.Which of the following statements is TRUE? A.He was satisfied with his looks. B.He wanted to be a film actor. C.He once played a role in an ad. D.He found it useless to do sit-ups. 21.What does the underlined word “froze ” probably mean in paragraph 5? A.Spread. B.Stopped. C.Continued. D.returned. 22.How do Jay’s feelings change in the passage? 根据“He did a couple of wake-up exercises and then he went over to his mirror and looked at himself.” 根据“Maybe he wasn’t ready for Hollywood, but with his dark brown eyes, he had the looks that turned girls’ heads.”及“‘Perfect,’ he thought. ‘Good enough for a toothpaste ad.’” 故选A。 21. 根据“His eyes moved to his legs. They were too short for his body. Sitting, he was as tall as almost anyone”可知,他看到了自己的短腿,因此笑容突然停止了,划线单词表示“停止”。故选B。 22. 根据“... he said to himself with a happy smile.”可知,开头对镜子微笑,夸赞外表因此是开心的;根据“As his eyes moved down to his strong arms, he smiled again. ... How proud he was!”可知,当看到自己强壮的手臂时,很自豪;根据“Stubs Stone, Jay didn’t like his nickname, but he had to accept it. Just think about the helpless situation!” ‘Stubs, Stubs Stone, the kid with stubby legs. Yeah, that’s me,’ he smiled again with satisfaction.” C。   C A spoon of pickles (榨菜) can sometimes make a meal taste better. Recently, a new type of pickle is being discussed: “digital pickled vegetables”. It stands for the videos people watch while eating that make their food more delicious. ① The topic received more than 16 million clicks on Sina Weibo and about 100,000 people joined in the discussion. Instead of having a good time with friends and family during a meal, many young people in China keep their eyes on TV shows or short videos. Many believe that their food is tastier with the digital pickles. ② Can this habit influence your diet? According to a research paper published in 2019, you may eat more without noticing it. The international research team asked 62 volunteers to follow different eating habits on four different days. The habits included eating while looking at the mobile phone, reading magazines and without distraction (干扰). After studying their diets, the team discovered that eating with a distraction increased caloric intake by about 15 percent. ③ To find out the reason, the team invited two groups of people: one group ate while listening to sounds about another person eating and the other listened to sounds that helped them imagine themselves eating. The results showed that the second group ate less since they paid more attention to their meals. When eating with the “digital pickles”, our attention can be distracted, which leads to eating more than expected. ④ A research project led by the University of Sussex, UK, pointed out that activities which need lots of attention trick many people into overeating. The team invited 120 people to do different tasks while providing them with drinks and snacks. “Our study shows that if you’re eating or drinking while your attention is distracted by a difficult task, it is less possible for you to tell how full you feel,” one of the researchers Martin Yeomans explained. 23.Which of the following is a kind of digital pickles? A.Drinks. B.Snacks. C.Videos. D.Tasks. 24.What can we know from Paragraph 3? A.Eating with digital pickles may make people get fatter. B.Reading magazines while eating is a good eating habit. C.Different eating habits made little difference to people’s diet. D.Volunteers were divided into four groups by the research team. 25.Why did the second group in the research eat less? A.They listened to sounds about another person eating. B.They didn’t like the food. C.They paid more attention to their meals. D.They were not hungry. 26.Where can you put the sentence “This works not only for eating meals but also other difficult tasks as well.”? 根据文章第1段“Recently, a new type of pickle is being discussed: ‘digital pickled vegetables’. It stands for the videos people watch while eating that make their food more delicious.” 根据文章第3段“After studying their diets, the team discovered that eating with a distraction increased caloric intake by about 15 percent.” 故选A。 25. 根据文章第4段“The results showed that the second group ate less since they paid more attention to their meals.” 根据文章最后一段“A research project led by the University of Sussex, UK, pointed out that activities which need lots of attention trick many people into overeating. The team invited 120 people to do different tasks while providing them with drinks and snacks.” D。 D In the past, the Tala Desert in Qinghai was described by the saying, “When the wind blows, stones roll and no grass grows.” Covering more than 600 square kilometers, 98.5% of this empty land has turned into desert. Almost nothing could live there. Yet, because it receives plenty of sunlight, this “lifeless place” was chosen as the site for one of China’s biggest solar power stations. In 2012, the first sets of solar panels (太阳能板) were set up. They were only meant to collect sunlight to produce electricity, but something unexpected happened for the environment. The panels worked like large sunshades. They reduced direct sunlight, slowed down wind erosion (侵蚀), and helped the soil keep its moisture. In just a few years, plant coverage increased from less than 2% to 80%. However, new problems soon arose. The rapidly growing grass started to block sunlight from reaching the panels. This reduced electricity production and raised the risk of fires. Using chemical weed killers damaged the weak ecosystem, and asking people to cut the grass cost millions of yuan every year. Then, a local herder (牧民) half-jokingly suggested, “Why not let sheep eat the grass?” In 2016, 600 Tibetan sheep officially “started working.” They ate the grass under the panels, keeping it short and improving the soil with their waste. In return, the sheep grew healthier. The herders voluntarily joined the project and even formed a small group to take turns managing the areas, making sure the grass and sheep stay in balance. This created a lasting system of “solar power above, sheep below.” The power station saved on cleaning costs, herders made more money, and the land became healthier. Today, the Tala Desert now supplies over 100 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually and the number of sheep has increased to over 20,000, creating millions of yuan in value every year. The tale of the “photovoltaic sheep” (光伏羊) shows that when humans cooperate with nature instead of fighting it, even the toughest desert can glow with the hope of sustainable development (可持续发展). 27.What is the main purpose of the first paragraph? A.To introduce the problem in the desert. B.To provide the background for the solar project. C.To show the view of the Tala Desert. D.To explain how solar energy works. 28.What can we learn from Paragraph 3? A.The fast-growing grass helped increase electricity production. B.A local scientist first thought of letting sheep eat the grass. C.Using chemical weed killers was useful and helpful. D.Asking people to cut grass cost a great deal of money. 29.What are the achievements of the whole project? ①It generates tons of clean electricity. ②It stopped the wind from blowing in the desert. ③It greatly improved the local environment. ④It helps the local herders to raise sheep. A.①②④ B.①③④ C.②③④ D.①②③ 30.What can we infer from the text? A.Local herders supported the project and took part in it actively. B.The project will be widely used in all deserts around China. C.The main goal of the solar power station was to improve the environment. D.The success of the “photovoltaic sheep” project only happened by chance. 根据“Yet, because it receives plenty of sunlight, this ‘lifeless place’ was chosen as the site for one of China’s biggest solar power stations”可知,第一段先描述沙漠的荒凉,再引出其因光照充足被选为太阳能电站选址,是为太阳能项目做背景铺垫。故选B。 28. 根据“asking people to cut the grass cost millions of yuan every year”可知,让人割草每年要花费数百万元,即花费了大量资金。故选D。 29. 根据“supplies over 100 million kilowatt-hours of clean electricity annually”(对应①)、“plant coverage increased from less than 2% to 80%”(对应③)、“the number of sheep has increased to over 20,000”(对应④)可知,①③④是项目成果;文中未提“阻止了风的吹动”,②错误。故选B。 30. 根据“The herders voluntarily joined the project and even formed a small group to take turns managing the areas”可知,牧民自愿加入项目并参与管理,说明他们积极支持并参与。故选A。 Life keeps changing. While some changes are exciting, others may make us feel nervous. ________ Whether you like them or not, changes cannot be avoided. Have a good understanding of them may make it easier for us to deal with changes. What are life changes? Many new things happen in life. Some are good choices you make, like joining a team or meeting friends. ________ They can be big things like moving schools, a friend going away or the death of your beloved one. Smaller changes might include having a new teacher or adapting (适应) to parents’ new work schedules (日程表). All these can create strong emotions, but that’s normal. ________ Changes can be difficult because we can’t predict results. Emily Hanlon, a phychologist (心理学家), says: “Our brains like familiar things because they feel safe. When something changes, like starting a new school or moving to a new home, it can feel like stepping into the unknown. ________” Changes can also be hard if you don’t feel quite ready for them or you are not in control of whatever is happening. Can change be a good thing? Trying new things helps discover what you like and dislike, such as tasting new ice cream flavors (味道) to find favorites. Changes also help us grow and learn skills. Hanlon says “Though changes can be scary, they often bring new experiences, friendships, and strengths. So face the changes and believe in yourself.” A.This makes us anxious because we don’t know what’s coming. B.Changes are a normal part of life. C. Why can it be hard to deal with? D.But some changes might make you feel worried. E. How can we deal with changes? 31. 32. 33. 34. 35.Are you ready for the new changes in the near future? What will you do to deal with them?(不超过15词) 【答案】31.B 32.D 33.C 34.A 35.Yes. I will manage my time better and face challenges bravely. 31.根据下文“Whether you like them or not, changes cannot be avoided.” 32.根据下文“They can be big things like moving schools, a friend going away or the death of your beloved one.” 33.根据下文“Changes can be difficult because we can’t predict results.” 34.根据上文“When something changes, like starting a new school or moving to a new home, it can feel like stepping into the unknown.” 故选A。 35. Yes. I will manage my time better and face challenges bravely. During the Ming Dynasty, there was a skilled man named Wang Shuyuan. He was good at turning a 36 piece of wood into different things, like buildings, animals, trees, and even people. One of his greatest works was a small 37 made just from a peach pit (桃核). D.He found it useless to do sit-ups. 21.What does the underlined word “froze ” probably mean in paragraph 5? A.Spread. B.Stopped. C.Continued. D.returned. 22.How do Jay’s feelings change in the passage? A.unhappy---proud---hopeless---happy B.unhappy---worried---hopeless---happy C.happy---proud---helpless---satisfied D.happy---worried---helpless---satisfied C A spoon of pickles (榨菜) can sometimes make a meal taste better. A.① B.② C.③ D.④ D In the past, the Tala Desert in Qinghai was described by the saying, “When the wind blows, stones roll and no grass grows.” Covering more than 600 square kilometers, 98.5% of this empty land has turned into desert. Life keeps changing.
