January 20, 2025, is a big day for a Chinese tech company named DeepSeek. On that day, the company made a new AI model called DeepSeek-R1, which stuns the World.
This smart AI can solve difficult math problems, write computer code, and answer all kinds of questions. Its abilities are as good as the world’s top AI models, like Open AI’s GPT-4o. However, the amazing part is that it cost much less to build.
The DeepSeek team spent only $5.58 million, which is about one-seventieth (1/70) of the cost for similar models from big companies. They used 2,048 computer chips and worked for two months. This success proves that good ideas and smart work can sometimes be more important than having a lot of money.
DeepSeek-R1 is free for everyone to use and change. On its first day online, more than 19,000 programmers around the world started projects to study and use it. A scientist from Germany said that doing experiments with R1 now costs only about $10, compared to $300 when using other AIs. A top scientist from Meta, a famous U.S. company, even said, “This kind of free AI could change the world.”
This makes some U. S. tech companies surprised, too. For example, Meta plans to spend an extra $65 billion on AI research. Experts say that China is catching up very fast in the AI field. A report in the famous magazine Nature called R1 a “big step forward”, proving that smart ideas beat expensive tools.
A DeepSeek engineer shared their dream: “We want AI to be a friend for everyone, not something only rich people or big companies can use.” DeepSeek-R1 shows the world that great things can come from creative ideas and hard work, not just money.
27.What was the cost of building DeepSeek-R1?
A.$300 million. B.$5.58 million. C.$65 billion.
28.What can we infer from the passage?
A.DeepSeek-R1 is only for rich people to use.
B.DeepSeek-R1 does worse in math than OpenAI’s model.
C.Smart ideas may work better than much money in AI making.
29.The word “stuns” probably means “________”.
A.surprises. B.bores. C.controls.
30.What is the main idea of the passage?
A.DeepSeek-R1’s special learning way different from other AIs.
B.A low-cost but excellent Chinese AI model DeepSeek-R1.
C.Global people’s reactions to the new AI DeepSeek-R1.
【答案】27.B 28.C 29.A 30.B

Similar to blogs, vlogs allow people to share their lives and thoughts. Video clips (片段) different from written texts or photos, are mainly used in vlogs. While short videos of about 10 to 60 seconds are still popular, more and more people like vlog entries (记录), which last for several minutes. They allow vloggers to include more meaningful content (内容). 31

◆After filming
Video editing (剪辑) may sound challenging, but there are different video editing software and apps to help us. Add sound and visual (视觉的) effects to show information creatively. 35 And finally, think of a suitable title to let viewers know the clip’s content.

Because of this, I can’t pay 38 attention to anything and don’t even feel like talking to anyone.”
Ms Black listened to him carefully, thought for a while and said, “Would you like some lemon juice?” Mike felt a little surprised and nervously replied, “Yes, thank you!”
While 39 juice, Ms Black added some salt on purpose and didn’t add any sugar. Mike made a strange face as soon as he drank a sip (一小口) of that juice. Seeing this, Ms Black asked, “You don’t like it?”
“Um, it’s just ... there is a bit too much 40 in it,” Mike answered.
Ms Black stopped him, “Oh, it doesn’t matter. I will 41 right now.” As the teacher was lifting (举起) the glass to do so, Mike stopped her and said, “Please don’t. 42 we put a little more sugar in the lemon juice, maybe it will be fine to drink.”
Hearing this, Ms Black said happily, “This is exactly what I want to hear. To 43 with the salt and change the taste, we don’t have to give up the whole juice and throw it away. 44 , we can just add some sugar to it. Similarly, we don’t need to give up our whole life just because of some sad things that have already happened to us, but we can add sweetness of good experiences in our life. 【导语】本文是记叙文。主要讲述了迈克因出身贫困、遭遇伤心事而变得孤僻寡言,数学老师布莱克女士通过调制柠檬汁的小实验,开导迈克不必因过去的不幸放弃生活,而应主动为生活增添美好体验的故事。
36.句意:而且他不喜欢交朋友。
any任何,用于否定句/疑问句;some一些,用于肯定句;every每个。根据“didn’t like to make”可知,句子为否定句,“make friends”是固定短语,结合语境“不喜欢结交”,此处需表示“任何朋友”。故选A。
根据前文“Mike seemed always sad and silent”以及后文“keep thinking about it”可知,迈克一直悲伤沉默,原因是经历了伤心的事。故选C。
my我的;his他的;her她的。根据“Because of this, I can’t pay... attention to anything”可知,句子主语是“I”,对应的形容词性物主代词是“my”,“pay my attention to”表示“集中我的注意力在……”,符合语境。故选A。
根据后文“Ms Black added some salt on purpose and didn’t add any sugar”可知,此处是“准备果汁”的过程。故选C。
根据前文“added some salt on purpose and didn’t add any sugar”以及 “Mike made a strange face”可知,果汁里加了很多盐,所以味道怪异。故选C。
keep it away把它拿走;throw it away把它扔掉;drink it up把它喝完。根据后文“we don’t have to give up the whole juice and throw it away”可知,老师此处故意说要“扔掉”果汁,为后文的开导做铺垫。故选B。
If如果;Although虽然;Since自从/因为。根据“‘Please don’t... we put a little more sugar in the lemon juice, maybe it will be fine to drink.’” 故选A。
根据“we don’t have to give up the whole juice and throw it away.... we can just add some sugar to it.”
根据前文“some sad things that have already happened to us”可知,这些伤心事是已经发生的,属于“过去”。故选A。

故填have influenced。
In the middle of Tibet lies a beautiful city named Nagchu (那曲). The city is full of lakes, rivers, and forests that need caring. Many people in Nagchu are working together to keep the city clean and safe. The local government supports these people and pays them to patrol (巡逻) lakes, rivers, and forests.
Out of the city’s 505,400 people, over 90,000 work as ecological (生态的) protectors, with more than 14,000 focusing on water protection. Over the past few years, a growing number of young people have started taking part in protecting water, too.
Tsega is one of the young protectors. He has been protecting the water for many years. His village Lothe sits very high in the mountains and is the home of the Jangchu Diruk Glacier (姜古迪如冰川), which is very important because it’s the main source (源头) of the Yangtze River — the longest river in China. Tsega and his fellow villagers understand the importance of keeping the water clean because it serves as drinking water for people and animals living nearby. In Lothe, over 300 caretakers help clean rivers, wetlands, and grasslands just like Tsega.
Another caretaker, Sodrub, from Lhegan village in Nagchu, says their team patrols every week to pick up rubbish like plastic bottles around the lakes. They also advise tourists not to litter while traveling.
In total, more than 2,700 patrol workers are working in the Three-River-Source National Park in Nagchu’s Drachen county. Local leaders say that taking care of nature is everyone’s job, and they will keep protecting their mountains and rivers in the future.
56.Why are many people in Nagchu working together?
57.How many people work on water protection in Nagchu?
58.Do Tsega and his fellow villagers think keeping the water clean important?
59.How does Sobrub’s team protect the lakes during their patrol?
60.As a student in Changsha, what can you do to protect the Xiangjiang River?

Dear friends,
As we all know, the environmental problem is getting much more serious nowadays! As middle school students, we should do something to protect our environment. First, we should take the bus or subway to school. We can also ride a bike or walk to school. We should try not to drive a car. Second, we should save water. For example, we can take a shower instead of taking a bath. Third, we should sort the rubbish and throw it into the bin. Fourth, we should turn off the light when we leave the room.
These actions may seem small, but together they create a big impact. I believe that if we can do all of these things, our environment will be better.
