Passage 1
Maybe your child is moving to a new neighborhood or just entering middle or high school. 1 . These tips will help make the transition (过渡) a smooth one.
Keep a positive focus
As the first day draws near, begin talking to your child about her expectations, hopes, and worries about the upcoming school year. 2 . There is no need to be anxious and she can keep a positive mindset. Present school as a place where she’ll learn new things and make friends.
3
While you don’t want your child to take on too much, it’s important to encourage participation (参与) in one or two activities that interest them. Perhaps surprisingly, this strategy often leads to better grades. Research published in 2022 suggests participation in extracurriculars leads to positive health, behavioral, and academic (学业) outcomes for kids aged 12 to 15.
Get enough sleep
If your child has enjoyed a vacation of late nights and lazy mornings, getting up for school on the first day may be difficult. Help make this transition easier by starting the school-year sleep habit a week or two in advance. 4 .
Get enough supplies
Spend the week before the first day of school making sure you and your child know what school supplies are required. 5 . But if not, take it upon yourself to ask and then buy the necessities as early as possible. Note that high school students may require specialized tools for more advanced learning.
A.Accompany younger kids
B.Encourage extra-curricular participation
C.Many schools provide a handy list for the lower grades
D.Tell her that other children are having the same feelings
E.Sleep plays a key role in strengthening learning and memory
F.The first few weeks may be filled with anxiety as well as excitement
G.Reading books together about school is a good way to remove fear about school
Passage 2
It is never too late to develop good study habits. However, starting making some changes is hard. Even if you want to do well enough in school and improve your grades, you’re probably having trouble getting started in the first place. 6 .
Plan your time carefully. Make a list of your weekly tasks. Make a schedule of your time. Then decide on good, regular time for studying. 7 , but it will make you more aware of how you spend your time.
Find a good place to study. Choose one place for your study area. It may be a desk or a chair at home or in the school library, but it should be comfortable and quiet. When you begin to work, you should be able to concentrate on the subject.
Skim before you read. 8 . As you preview the material, you get some idea of the passage and how it is organised.
9 . Listening to what the teacher says in class means less work later. Taking notes helps you remember what the teacher says.
Develop a good attitude to tests. The purpose of a test is to show what you have learned about a subject. 10 . Tests provide grades, but they also let you know that you need to spend more time studying.
There are other skills that might help you with your study. Share with your classmates some of the skills you have found to be helpful.
A.Study regularly
B.Make good use of your time in class
C.There are several ways that can help you
D.The world won’t end if you fail, so take it easy
E.Your favorite subject opens a new world of knowledge
F.This weekly schedule may not solve all of your problems
G.This means looking over a passage quickly before you begin to read it more carefully
Passage 3
Participating (参加) in high school extra-curricular activities is important for personal growth. They can teach you a lot, introduce you to good friends, and give you ideas about what to do in future. 11
The most important thing to consider before taking part in an extra-curricular activity is: 12 If you’re going to spend hours every week doing something, you need to enjoy it. Once you’ve made a list of interests, it’s time to search for opportunities. Usually, your teachers and parents know more about what is going on in your community than you do. 13 And never underestimate (低估) the power of a simple online search!
Now you know how to find extra-curricular activities. There is one more problem most high school students have: how to find the time. You need to go to school, do your homework, and maybe even work a part-time job. 14 However, time is not something too difficult to get. You have to make the time to do extra-curricular activities if you really want to get involved (参与). You can sit down and make your schedule hour by hour and take an honest look at what you do with your free time 15
Whether you give up one Saturday every month to volunteer or one hour every week to attend club meetings, you are making the time to make a difference and prepare for your future.
A.What do you like to do?
B.They won’t mind helping you out a little bit.
C.You may not like some extra-curricular activities.
D.You’ll find a world of opportunities waiting for you.
E.You might be surprised by how much free time you “find”.
F.You feel there’s not enough time to participate in extra-curricular activities.
G.So if you’re a high school student wondering where to get started, look no further.
Passage 4
Going from middle school to the freshman year of high school is a big change. 16 .
Be open to new friendships.
High school is all about experiencing new things, including new friendships. Getting to know people you haven’t met before is a great way to broaden your horizons. 17 Simply sitting with a new person at lunch can be enough to get the ball rolling.
Explore the campus.
For most people, going off to senior high school means heading to a completely new campus. 18 . They might be able to show you around the campus, which will make you a bit more confident as you go on with your freshman year.
Get organised.
Senior high school and junior high school are very different. 19 . You can buy a planner and spend a few minutes each night going over the notes you took in class that day. Staying on top of your studies will make the transition(过渡) from middle school to high school much easier.
20 .
While there’s no need to plan every day for the next three years, it can’t hurt to make a note of classes you want to take or activities you’d like to try. Believe it or not, the three years will go by really fast. Having a plan in place will help you make the most of your high school experience.
A.Create a three-year plan.
B.Be open to new experiences.
C.If you’re nervous, start small.
D.That way, you’ll have a better idea of some of the things you can expect.
E.Try to get as organised as possible so you can stay on top of your studies.
F.If you worry about the unknown, reach out to the school and see if someone can help.
G.Here are some ways to help you deal with anxiety and prepare for the first year.
Passage 1
Everyone is born into a family, but not everyone gets a healthy one. Why is family important? What kind of impact does it have on a person in their childhood and as a grown-up? Here are four reasons why family matters:Families set the stage for future relationships.
The very first relationships a child has are with their parents and any siblings It’s often not a decision they are aware of, but people often choose partners and friends based on how similar they are to their family.
2. During hard times, people need a family they can depend on.
When life gets hard, people need support. 2 . Someone going through hard times will turn to their family if they trust them to provide encouragement and love.
3. Quality time with family is connected to better academic performance.
Columbia University did a series of studies on family dinner time. One study showed that kids who ate dinner with their family less than three times were twice as likely to get Cs or below in school. 3 . Of course, there are other things at play (起作用), but families that value dinners together likely value other positive family communications.
4. 4 .

Passage 2
There is nothing in the world that can compare to a mother’s love within a family. 6 It is also beneficial to your own health and happiness.
Reduce stress. A strong relationship with your mother can help you lessen pressure. According to a report, about nine out of ten American adults say that their connection with their mother has had a positive influence on them. 7
Increase self- confidence. Having a close connection with your mum is one of the best ways to lift your confidence. 8 But contact with your mum, who is biologically your biggest fan and supporter, can remind you how important it is to believe in yourself.
9 Being in contact with your mother is often an opportunity to share your thoughts and feelings. And it lets her tell you about your true situation. This reality check, provided by someone who loves and supports you, can be the key to helping you figure out how to take the next best step in your life and deal with a challenging situation.
Contribute to success. The report says the influence of strong parent- child communication from children’s early years is far- reaching. 10 When mother-child for communication is strong, children develop mental skills faster. Despite the daily pressure felt of adult life, the strong mother-child communication is the key to leading children to be successful.
A.Tell the truth.
B.Develop physically faster.
C.Indeed, it is not a challenging thing to lift your confidence.
D.Talks with their mothers lead to better language skills.

F.Lacking self- confidence can make everything tougher to deal with.
G.Keeping regular contact with your mother benefits her well- being.
Passage 3
A family is a place filled with love, care, and shared days. 11 They pick up their first words, understand what kindness means; and find comfort when things go wrong. Even as they grow older, family stays a steady support, cheering on their joys and standing by them through hard times.
12 When family members listen to a child’s worries or praise their small wins, it builds the child’s confidence little by little. Parents might read bedtime stories to teach new words, help with homework when it’s difficult, or talk about their day to encourage curiosity. This kind of support doesn’t just make kids better at school but helps them feel ready for future life.
Families pass on traditions and teach good habits.
Think about the special things many families do: making a favorite dish every holiday, telling stories about grandparents, or even having a silly rule for game nights. 13 Kids need to learn sharing toys with siblings or saying “sorry” when they’re wrong. All the practices help children feel connected to their roots.
Families bond through small shared moments.
Making family bonds stronger doesn’t need big plans. Something as simple as sitting down to eat dinner together works: putting away phones to talk about the day lets everyone feel heard. 14 For example, creating small, regular moments, like a weekly walk or watching a favorite show together, also helps.
Family serves as the quiet base of a happy life. 15 All these are what keep families strong and warm for years.
A.Big trips could bring families closer.
B.Families support the growth of children.
C.For children, it’s when they first learn.
D.Parents prefer complex activities to simple ones.
E.Another way is to set fixed time for a family activity.
F.Families also teach kids how to get on well with others.
G.It achieves this by helping growth, keeping traditions, and sharing moments.
Passage 4
While holidays may have been filled with trips or relaxing at home during childhood, by traveling with your parents as an adult, you can explore new places and share special moments together that you can look back on with a smile. 16
Rebuild the relationship.
While there are old ways of getting along in the parent-child relationship, a trip abroad can help you become friendly again. You are no longer the kid who always breaks a cup, and your parents are no longer just the ones who shouted about it. 17 Experiences such as finding new places in a strange environment and dealing with challenges like losing hotel keys create moments of understanding and connection.
18
A journey can provide an exciting chance to discover new things about your family. For example, you might discover that one of your parents has a gift for organizing the trip. These realizations can make your relationship with them more interesting, full of laughter and the willingness to learn more about them. What’s more, when you see how your family deals with travel plans—like booking tickets or finding restaurants—you’ll notice skills they have that you don’t usually see in daily life.
Create new memories.
19 Travel, however, gives you the chance to share new and wonderful moments together. Even if you didn’t have the best childhood memories growing up, traveling lets you connect with each other, creating all-new memories. It would be even better if there’s less arguing along the way.
Realize the gift of time.
Traveling with aging parents isn’t always easy because of schedules, different energy levels, and interests. However, moments like laughter, quiet conversations, and viewing the same sight are deeply meaningful. 20
A.Get to know them better.
B.Find your family’s travel habits.
C.But new experiences often bring awkward moments.
D.Everyone has different impressions of their childhood.
E.They remind us to value the time we have with them.
F.Instead, you become travel partners who support each other.

Building and keeping healthy friendships takes effort and balance. Friendships grow on shared support. 6
Showing your friends that you care strengthens your bond. Being a good friend yourself is just as important as having good friends around you. Here are some key ways to build your friendships. 7
Take an interest in what’s happening in your friends’ lives. Show you’re listening through eye contact, body language, and short comments like “That sounds great.” When your friends are facing difficulties, listen with understanding and avoid offering advice unless they ask for it. Sometimes, just being there to listen is the best support you can give.Be dependable and trustworthy.
8 Be someone your friends can count on by keeping promises and showing up on time. When a friend shares something personal with you, respect their privacy and keep it private. Following through on your promises and being reliable help build stronger, lasting connections.Stay connected and available.
Building deeper friendships takes time. Make an effort to see friends regularly and check in with them between meet-ups. 9 It’s natural to feel a bit awkward when getting to know someone new, but don’t let that stop you. As you connect more often, you’ll find that the initial awkwardness fades and a deeper bond begins to form.

The good news is that there are ways to navigate the ups and downs of friendships while remaining part of a positive, happy, and supportive circle.
Keep an open mind
Changes in friendship groups can feel strange at first, especially if everything had been going well beforehand. You might be concerned things feel awkward or different, or that you might feel bad if a new person joins your circle. 12 . You can’t stop your friends having new people in their lives, so try to see encounters with fresh faces as an exciting opportunity.
13
If your best friends seem to stop being interested in you and appear to be spending all their time with a new friend, take time to think about the situation before rushing to talk to them angrily.
14 . Having different friends is a positive thing, so if it’s the case that they’re welcoming new people into the fold, try to make peace with it and think about how you can make other friends, too. This doesn’t mean giving up on your best friends. Recognize that they and you will have a mixture of pals and they’ll make your life in different ways.
Know your worth
Friends are amazing and can carry you through good and bad times, but you’re not defined by others, and you deserve people who want to be in your life. Everyone changes, and there might come a time when friends no longer wish to spend time with you. 15 . Keep your head held high, walk tall, and stay true to your real self. Remember that real friends value you for who and what you are.
A.Widen your circle
B.Ask your friends to stay loyal

17 Slow down and honestly discuss what everyone hopes to get out of the vacation before booking anything. Talk about where you’d like to and how long a vacation is OK for all. Will you be together all of the time? 18 Will there be one or two main planning leaders? Make sure everyone plays a part in planning the vacation.
Have the money talk. No one likes the uncomfortable talk about how the money is going to work, but it is a necessary part of planning. 19 So it’s best to have honest conversations about money. Try to find some common ground when planning a budget (预算) for accommodations, visiting attractions, meals out, and activities.
Stay safe. While you don’t have to be with the group every minute of your trip, agree to stay accountable (负有责任的) to each other for everyone’s safety. That means no leaving without telling the group where you’re going. 20 Look out for one another and use common sense so everyone stays safe.

Passage 1
Mistakes I Made While Trying To Lose Weight
In this article, I’m going to share with you several mistakes I made on my quest to lose weight.
I started to skip (略过) breakfast. Most people trying to lose weight believe simply eating less and skipping meals can help get rid of the fat. 1 And in fact, breakfast is easily burnt throughout the day.
I bought diet food. When I went shopping, I always looked for the foods marked diet, low-fat, healthy, etc. 2 I bought these foods because in my mind it meant I could buy more. I would totally pay no attention to the amount of the food. If you eat too much any food, you’re not doing yourself any favors.
3 Eating salad is a good way of keeping my calorie intake down. But I found that only a moment after my meals, I was looking for more food. I learnt that I was better off eating a balanced meal with few more calories than simply eating a salad and snacking afterwards.
I was too awkward to go to the gym. Joining a gym was one of the hardest things I ever did. I was always worried that people in the gym would be staring at me and talking about me. I really thought I was too fat to join. My advice is to join a gym! 4
I set my goals too high. Setting long-term goals is great, but these goals always seem too far off. You need to set smaller, more reachable goals. 5 Set yourself weekly and monthly goals.
Once you meet one short-term goal, set a new one for next week.
A.I thought I’d always be fat.
B.I promise you’ll be glad you do.
C.But it doesn’t keep you full for long.
D.I started eating salads as main meals.
E.But I was buying these foods for the wrong reason.
F.So you can achieve them now and then and cheer yourself up.
G.However, if so, you’re much more likely to eat more for lunch.
Passage 2
Teens are busy. Their schedules are filled with school, work, after-school activities, homework and social time with friends. They may not have much enough free time, and what free time they have often is spent on screens. Regular (定期的) exercise is important for teens, but it can be a challenge to get them moving. 6 Here are some suggestions if your teen appears to be interested.
Find the fun. Exercise doesn’t need to be boring. Work together to find exercises that your teen finds fun and interesting. Try a new sport. Play music and have a dance party in the kitchen. Explore a country road or bike to a local park. Try a new exercise video online. 7
Add exercise to your everyday activities. 8 Encourage your teen to take a walk with friends during lunch, use the stairs instead of elevator (电梯) or park the car at the back of the lot. These are ways that you can develop healthy habits, as well.
Cheer them on. 9 Everyone likes to hear they are doing a good job, even teens who roll their eyes. Applaud (鼓掌) them for their results. Tell them that slow and continuing progress is a good way to keep healthy habits going.
10 Not every teen wants to join a sports team, but movement can be included in other activities. If your teen enjoys photography, explore hiking trails or parks for chances. Teens who love to read may be interested in biking to bookstores or animal-loving teens could volunteer as a dog walker at a local animal shelter.
A.Don’t forget that daily bit matters.
B.Connect exercise with other interests.
C.Notice and praise teens when they exercise.
D.Though encouraging teens can be a challenge, it’s possible.
E.Exercising with others keeps us connected and teens are no exception.
F.Focusing on it will make exercise something they look forward to, instead of fear.
G.If your kids take part in a sport, they will probably be more successful at work.
Passage 3
In a world ruled by hard exercise and complex fitness programs, the simple act of walking often goes unnoticed. 11 It offers physical and mental benefits (益处) that lead to total happiness.
Heart Health and Weight Management
Walking is light heart exercise that helps improve heart health by increasing blood circulation (循环). 12 Besides, regular quick walking supports in weight management by burning calories and improving digestion (消化), making it an excellent choice for those looking to throw away pounds or keep a healthy weight.
Stress Drop and Clear Mind
Taking a relaxing walk or quick walk has been shown to give off endorphins, the body’s natural “feel-good” materials. This leads to lower pressure (压力) levels, improved feelings, and improved mental health. Walking outdoors in nature or in a peaceful environment can provide a refreshing escape from the daily tasks. 13
Joint (关节) Health and Free Movement
Unlike active sports, walking is soft on the joints, making it a perfect choice for people of all ages and fitness levels. 14 At the same time, it also raises the ability to move freely and easily. Walking regularly can be particularly good for those recovering from pain or looking to avoid problems with joints.
Social Communication and Connection
15 Walking clubs, group climbs, or even simple walking with a friend or family member can provide a chance to connect, share experiences, and create lasting memories while at the same time bringing the physical benefits.
A.It helps oil joints and make them stronger.
B.In fact, it is not as simple as it seems.
C.So taking a walk can make your mind relaxed and fresh.
D.Taking a slow walk after meals is better than taking a quick one.
E.It cuts down the risk of heart disease and brings down blood pressure.
F.Walking is useful exercise that can easily be turned into a social activity.
G.However, walking remains one of the easiest and most useful forms of exercise.
Passage 4
If you always find at-home exercise difficult to stay motivated (有动力的) like the exercise at the gym. Here are some tips for you.
Set specific (具体的) fitness goals. Many people start with unclear fitness goals like “Lose weight. Be healthier.” 16 , but they don’t help much with planning or getting started. If you already have a regular gym habit, these goals might be easy enough to keep up. But if you need to get serious about making yourself get off the sofa and exercise at home, I don’t think they work. 17 . For example, you could set a goal to lift a certain weight with your arms by your next birthday, or lose a certain number of pounds by an upcoming event. The key is to make goals that are personal, actionable, measurable, and time-bound.
Meet your own deadlines. You’ll find that it keeps you focused. For instance, if you set a goal to do a one-legged squat (深蹲) by May and actually achieve it in April, this will make you feel proud and eager to set the next goal, 18 , try a rewards system. If your goal is to lift 30 pounds with your arms by December and you’re currently at 15 pounds, think of rewards for reaching 20 and 25 pounds. Maybe treat yourself to a meal at a favorite restaurant.
19 . Cristina Chan, a F45 Global Recovery Athlete, says that tracking your workouts in a way that’s easy to see can make a huge difference when exercising alone. She suggests marking a calendar, using a habit tracker app, or even putting sticky notes on a wall to record your active days. Seeing how regularly you keep doing it over time is a powerful motivator, 20 .
A.These are great ideas
B.If you focus on your goals
C.Pay for your gym membership
D.Keep track of how you’re doing toward your goals
E.If a general feeling of doing better isn’t enough for you
F.That’s why you should start setting much more specific goals
G.It enables you to focus on showing up instead of physical results
Passage 1
How to Write a Movie Review
Writing a good movie review is helpful, whether you do it for fun or for work. 1 If you’ve recently watched a film and want to share your opinions about it, here are some tips to help you write a wonderful movie review.
Start with a short story summary.
A summary helps to give readers an idea of the movie. Briefly describe the main people, where the story happens, and the main problem in the movie. Never break the most important rule: don’t tell too much. 2
Move into your analysis(分析) of the movie.
Write a few paragraphs discussing interesting parts in the movie, such as the acting, the direction, the cinematography(摄影), and the setting. 3 The easier and clearer your writing is, the more interested you readers will be.
Use plenty of examples to support your points.
If you make a statement about the movie, give a descriptive example. Describe the way scenes look, the way a certain person acted, camera angles, and so on. 4 In this way you are giving your readers a feel of the movie and continuing to make comments on the film at the same time.
5
Your review doesn’t have to be a formal essay. It’s more impressive if you make it your own. If your writing style is usually interesting, your review should be interesting too. If you’re serious, that’s OK. Your writing should show your personality—it makes your review more enjoyable to read.
A.Give it some personality.
B.Keep an interesting style.
C.Don’t use too many terms about film making.
D.You can use dialogues from the movie as well.
E.You should first watch enough movies on your own.
F.Otherwise, you may ruin the movie for your readers.
G.It allows you to explore your personal connection with a film.
Passage 2
Film has seen great progress over the years. While actors and directors often receive most of the praise, the heroes behind the screen are the musicians who make a film unforgettable. 6 This is the kind of music we call a film score (配乐). It has developed through several stages.
In the silent film era, music was used to fill the silence. 7 They had to respond in real time to the changing scenes, adjusting their music to match the mood. This was the early form of film scoring.
The shift from live performance to written scores began in the early 1900s. French composer (作家) Camille Saint-Saens was the first to write original music specially for film. This marked a new stage of film scoring. 8 They worked closely with directors. As sound technology advanced, film scoring became an important part of the film-making process.
9 By the mid-20th century, they grew to include rock, pop, hip-hop, and electronic music. Films like Saturday Night Fever used popular music to define both character and culture. In science fiction films, electronic sounds were used to create a sense of the unknown.
Today, film musicians continue to shape the way we experience films. Masters like Hans Zimmer have moved us deeply with the beautiful score in Interstellar. Combining traditional instruments with digital production in innovative ways, he has brought us new sounds. 10
A.The film industry gained big success.
B.From then on, more composers joined in.
C.Musicians would play live music in theaters.
D.As a new kind of music, it faced many challenges.
E.His music takes us on a whole new journey of the senses.
F.Through the years, film scores took on various musical styles.
G.Their music deepens emotion and connects the audience to the story.
Passage 3

It spread widely in the form of hand-written copies at first, was performed on the stage of traditional Chinese opera later, and now has been adapted for films and TV series that are deeply loved by people. This is Strange Stories from a Chinese Studio. 11 . Its author was Pu Songling, a native of Zibo, Shandong, called Mr Liaozhai by people after the name of his studio.
12 . It consists of 12 chapters and 491 stories with diversified contents on a wide range of themes. Most works in the book are stories about spirits, monsters, ghosts and goblins. Passage 4
The Enduring Power of Literature
In an age dominated by digital media, the question of literature’s relevance has never been more pressing. 16 As a novelist and literary critic, I often turn to the insights of great writers who have delved into this question before me.
Toni Morrison once said, “We die. That may be the meaning of life. But we do language. That may be the measure of our lives.” For Morrison, literature was not merely a form of entertainment. 17 Through language, we preserve our experiences, our emotions, and our very essence.
James Baldwin, in his essay “The Creative Process”, argued that literature serves as a mirror and a map. He wrote, “ 18 ” Baldwin believed that literature had the power to confront uncomfortable truths and inspire social change. His works demonstrate how stories can simultaneously reflect reality and chart moral progress. The novel Go Tell It on the Mountain, for instance, not only exposed racial injustice in 1950s America but also envisioned paths toward empathy and reconciliation (和解).
Milan Kundera, in “The Art of the Novel”, emphasized literature’s ability to explore the complexity of human existence. “The novel’s wisdom,” he claimed, “is different from the wisdom of philosophy. 19 ” For Kundera, literature’s value lies in its capacity to embrace life's contradictions without seeking simplistic resolutions.
As I reflect on these perspectives, I am reminded of literature’s unique role in our lives. 20 By revealing unseen possibilities, it acts as both a time capsule of collective memory and a blueprint for unwritten futures. In a world increasingly driven by binary (二进制) thinking, literature offers a space for subtle difference, empathy, and profound understanding.
A.It is an act of resistance against being forgotten.
B.Literature's ability to entertain is its most important function.
C.Literature provides clear answers to life's most difficult questions.
D.Some even argue that literature has lost its place in modern society.
E.It is not just a reflection of who we are but also a vision of who we might become.
F.It is the wisdom of uncertainty, of ambiguity and of questioning rather than answering.
G.It was through literature that we could see ourselves clearly and chart a course for our future.\

Passage 1
Glowing Chinese Lanterns
Chinese lanterns come from a 2,000-year-old tale: When Chinese emperor Zhuge Liang needed to send a signal during a dark night, he had an idea. 1 He wove together the bamboo frame (框架) in the same shape as the hat he was known for wearing. After placing the rice paper over the frame and a candle at the base, the first Chinese lantern was lit. Zhuge Liang was also called Kongming, his traditional style name in ancient China. 2
Today, these floating lanterns are common in all Chinese festivities. Carefully made, they often feature Chinese calligraphy and traditional good-fortune symbols—dragons, flowers and the New Year’s zodiac animal. Outside of China, they have been adopted for festivals worldwide. These creative lanterns are also seen as an early form of the hot-air balloon, which was invented later in 1783. 3 Did you know? Sky lanterns can reach altitudes of up to 800 metres.
Traditionally, the outside of a Chinese lantern is made of rice paper or silk. The paper covering the lantern is translucent (半透明的), meaning it lets some light through. 4 This creates a wonderful sight when many are let go into the sky at one time during Chinese celebrations.
Chinese lanterns come in different colours, but most of them are red as it represents luck and joy. 5 Yet today they hold new meanings, such as bringing luck to school students. Passage 3
Sugar painting, as the name means, is a painting made of sugar. 11
Since the Warring States Period (战国时期), the ancient people loved sweets and developed methods of producing sugar. 12 And sugar, the expensive product once only served to the emperors and princes, also went into common people’s homes. With the cultural and economic (经济的) development of Song and Yuan Dynasties, people became less interested in only tasting sweetness. In the Ming Dynasty, some people added pictures with good luck into the bowl of sugar, and sugar painting appeared.
Sugar painting is different from normal painting. Sugar painters use syrup (糖浆) as the material, a spoon as the “paintbrush”, and a smooth table as the “paper”. 13 Since syrup may become hard if it cools, the painters have to produce the work very quickly. They move the spoon full of syrup up and down, left and right. Soon a sugar painting is done.
14 The sugar painting that used to be rich in shapes has become poorer and poorer because of fewer needs. What’s worse, few people seem to be willing to pass on the art except those aging sugar painters.
For most people, painting is a kind of art and difficult to understand. However, sugar painting has pulled the art down into people’s daily lives. Passage 4
As I stepped off the plane in Yunnan, I was about to begin an unforgettable experience: the Water-Splashing Festival.
On the morning of the festival, people were busy getting prepared. Their faces lit with expectation. I, a foreigner, really stood out in the street. A passing vendor (小贩) noticed my out-of-place expression and flashed me a wide smile. 16
Walking through the lively streets of Xishuangbanna with excitement, I saw a group of local children approaching me, their eyes shining with kindness. They handed me a traditional Dai hat and in that simple gesture, I felt a connection to this land and its people. 17 Such a moment highlights how the Water-Splashing Festival is more than just an event; it’s a celebration of warmth and openness.
Soon, the most important event, the water splashing, began. People of all ages, armed with water guns and buckets, filled the streets. 18 The thought of getting completely wet in front of so many strangers made me nervous. But then, a group of local boys targeted me with their water guns. Before I knew it, I got wet through, and a burst of laughter escaped my lips. In that moment, all my hesitations faded away. 19 But for me, it was also a way to wash away the distance between myself and the people around me. As the sun began to set, the festival finally ended. But the memories created, the friendship formed, the cultural understanding gained would last a lifetime.
20 It caught me that by being brave enough to explore new cultures, we open ourselves up to a world of possibilities. We enrich our lives in ways we could never have imagined, filling them laughter, warmth, and the magic of cultural connection.

F.Instead, you become travel partners who support each other.

故选A。

You can’t stop your friends having new people in their lives, so try to see encounters with fresh faces as an exciting opportunity.
13
If your best friends seem to stop being interested in you and appear to be spending all their time with a new friend, take time to think about the situation before rushing to talk to them angrily.
14 . Having different friends is a positive thing, so if it’s the case that they’re welcoming new people into the fold, try to make peace with it and think about how you can make other friends, too. 12.根据前文“You might be concerned things feel awkward or different, or that you might feel bad if a new person joins your circle.(你可能会担心出现以下情况:相处起来感觉尴尬或不自在,或者当有新人加入你的圈子时,你可能会感到不开心。)”
根据后文 “Having different friends is a positive thing, so if it’s the case that they’re welcoming new people into the fold, try to make peace with it and think about how you can make other friends, too.(拥有不同的朋友是件积极的事,所以如果他们在接纳新人,试着坦然接受,并思考自己也如何结交其他朋友)” 可知,本段围绕扩大社交圈展开。 故选A项。
14.根据前文“If your best friends seem to stop being interested in you and appear to be spending all their time with a new friend, take time to think about the situation before rushing to talk to them angrily.(如果你的好朋友似乎对你不再感兴趣,而且好像把所有时间都花在了一位新朋友身上,先花点时间梳理一下情况,不要急着怒气冲冲地去找他们谈话。)”
15.根据前文“Everyone changes, and there might come a time when friends no longer wish to spend time with you.(每个人都会改变,可能会有朋友不再愿意和你在一起的时刻)以及下文“Keep your head held high, walk tall, and stay true to your authentic self. Remember that real friends value you for who and what you are (昂首挺胸,昂首阔步,做真实的自己。记住,真正的朋友看重你是谁,你是什么)”可知,即使不能再做朋友,也不要强求,要保持自己的尊严。D选项“即使你不能改变他们的想法,你也可以保持你的尊严”切题。self-respect呼应Keep your head held high, walk tall。故选D。
Passage 4
You can picture it already: relaxing with your closest friends and exploring new exciting destinations. All the while you’re enjoying great food and making fantastic memories (回忆). 16 Use our tips to plan a trip with friends where you’ll come home not only relaxed but closer than ever.
A.Have a full discussion.
B.Choose a tour leader of your group.
C.Will there be days to explore separately?
D.People often have different ideas when it comes to money.

G.However, travelling with your closest friends sometimes can be a terrible experience.
【答案】16.G 17.A 18.C 19.D 20.E

16.上文“You can picture it already: relaxing with your closest friends and exploring new exciting destinations. All the while you’re enjoying great food and making fantastic memories (回忆). (你可以想象一下这样的场景:与最亲密的朋友们一起放松,探索那些充满新奇与刺激的地方。与此同时,你还能品尝到美味的食物,留下美好的回忆。)”提到与朋友一起放松和探索新目的地的美好画面,而G选项“However, travelling with your closest friends sometimes can be a terrible experience. (然而,和最亲密的朋友们一起旅行有时却会是一次糟糕的经历。)”通过“however”进行转折,指出与最亲密的朋友一起旅行有时也可能是一次糟糕的经历,从而引出下文关于如何规划一次愉快的旅行的建议。因此,G选项承上启下,符合语境。故选G。
17.下文“Slow down and honestly discuss what everyone hopes to get out of the vacation before booking anything. (在预订任何行程之前,先放慢脚步,诚实地讨论一下每个人希望通过这次度假达成什么样的目标。)”,提到即要在预订之前放慢脚步,诚实地讨论每个人希望从假期中获得什么。A选项“Have a full discussion. (进行充分的讨论。)”,与下文内容相呼应,强调了讨论的重要性,符合题意。故选A。

19.上文提到“No one likes the uncomfortable talk about how the money is going to work, but it is a necessary part of planning. (没有人喜欢那种关于资金运作方式的令人不适的讨论,但这是规划过程中必不可少的一部分。)”指出没有人喜欢谈论钱怎么花这种不舒服的话题,但这是计划的一部分。D选项“People often have different ideas when it comes to money. (当谈到钱时,人们往往有不同的想法。)”解释了为什么谈论钱会不舒服,因为人们往往有不同的观点,符合题意。故选D。
20.上文“That means no leaving without telling the group where you’re going. (这意味着在离开之前,必须先告知团队你要去的地方。)”提出离开前必须告诉团队你要去哪里。E选项“Be sure that everyone has each other’s contact information on their phone. (确保每个人的手机上都有彼此的联系方式。)”,是对上文内容的补充,强调了为了安全起见,需要确保团队成员之间有联系方式,以便随时联系,符合语境。故选E。
话题4 运动与健康(人与自我/人与社会)
1.根据前文“Most people trying to lose weight believe simply eating less and skipping meals can help get rid of the fat.(大多数试图减肥的人认为,只要少吃和不吃饭就可以帮助摆脱脂肪)”再根据本文标题“Mistakes I Made While Trying To Lose Weight(我在减肥过程中犯的错误)”是说的作者犯的错误,所以接下来应该讲述不吃早餐对减肥的坏处,所以G项(然而,如果是这样的话,你午餐很可能会吃得更多)符合文意。故选G项。
2.根据本段首句“I bought diet food.(我买了减肥食品)”可知,本段主要讲述了买减肥食品是错误的,再根据前文“When I went shopping, I always looked for the foods marked diet, low-fat, healthy, etc.(当我去购物时,我总是寻找标有减肥、低脂、健康等字样的食品)”以及后文“I bought these foods because in my mind it meant I could buy more. I would totally pay no attention to the amount of the food.(我买这些食物是因为在我看来,这意味着我可以买更多。我完全不会注意食物的数量)”可知,空处应是转折,讲述买减肥食品的错误,所以E项(但我买这些食物的原因是错误的)符合文意。故选E项。
3.分析设空可知,空处位于段首,是本段的中心句,讲述自己犯的另一个错误,所以根据后文“Eating salad is a good way of keeping my calorie intake down. But I found that only a moment after my meals, I was looking for more food.(吃沙拉是降低卡路里摄入的好方法。但我发现,仅仅在我吃完饭后的片刻,我就在寻找更多的食物)”可知,本段主要讲吃沙拉的问题,所以D项(我开始把沙拉作为主食)符合文意,其中salad为同词复现。故选D项。
4.根据本段首句“I was too awkward to go to the gym.(我太尴尬了,不敢去健身房)”可知,本段主要讲我不敢去健身房的错误,再根据前文“My advice is to join a gym!(我的建议是加入健身房)”可推知,接下来应该讲述这么做的好处,所以B项(我保证你会很高兴的)符合文意。故选B项。
【答案】6.D 7.F 8.A 9.C 10.B
6.前文“They may not have much enough free time, and what free time they have often is spent on screens. Regular (定期的) exercise is important for teens, but it can be a challenge to get them moving. (他们可能没有足够的空闲时间,而他们的空闲时间通常都花在屏幕上。定期锻炼对青少年来说很重要,但让他们动起来可能是一个挑战。)”指出让空闲时间有限的青少年运动是个挑战的问题,后文“Here are some suggestions if your teen appears to be interested. (如果你的孩子对此感兴趣,这里有一些建议。)”给出建议,因此D项“Though encouraging teens can be a challenge, it’s possible. (虽然鼓励青少年运动是个挑战,但这是可能的。)”符合语境,既承接了挑战,又引出解决方向,其中的challenge在前文有同词复现。故选D。
7.前文“Work together to find exercises that your teen finds fun and interesting. Try a new sport. Play music and have a dance party in the kitchen. Explore a country road or bike to a local park. Try a new exercise video online. (一起找一些孩子觉得有趣的锻炼。尝试一项新的运动。放点音乐,在厨房里开个舞会。探索乡间小路或骑自行车去当地的公园。尝试新的在线运动视频。)”建议尝试有趣的运动,列举了跳舞、骑行等有趣活动,因此F项“Focusing on it will make exercise something they look forward to, instead of fear. (把注意力放在它上面会让运动变成他们期待而非害怕的事情。)”符合语境,总结趣味性的作用,承接前文,其中的it指代段首句中的the fun。故选F。
8.段首主旨句“Add exercise to your everyday activities. (在日常活动中增加锻炼。)”建议将运动融入日常,后文“Encourage your teen to take a walk with friends during lunch, use the stairs instead of elevator (电梯) or park the car at the back of the lot. (鼓励你的孩子在午餐时间和朋友散步,走楼梯而不是电梯,或者把车停在停车场的后面。)”给出各种日常的小做法,因此A项“Don’t forget that daily bit matters. (别忘了日常点滴很重要。)”符合语境,提醒日常活动的重要性,契合主旨句,引出后文的做法。故选A。
9.段首主旨句“Cheer them on. (为他们加油。)”建议为青少年加油,后文“Everyone likes to hear they are doing a good job, even teens who roll their eyes. Applaud (鼓掌) them for their results. Tell them that slow and continuing progress is a good way to keep healthy habits going. (每个人都喜欢听到自己做得很好,即使是那些翻白眼的青少年。为他们的成果鼓掌。告诉他们缓慢而持续的进步是保持健康习惯的好方法。)”聚焦鼓励的积极作用及具体方法,因此C项“Notice and praise teens when they exercise. (当青少年运动时,注意并表扬他们。)”符合语境,解释如何为青少年加油,承前启后。故选C。
10.后文“Not every teen wants to join a sports team, but movement can be included in other activities. If your teen enjoys photography, explore hiking trails or parks for chances. Teens who love to read may be interested in biking to bookstores or animal-loving teens could volunteer as a dog walker at a local animal shelter.

【答案】16.A 17.F 18.E 19.D 20.G
16.根据前文“Many people start with unclear fitness goals like “Lose weight. Be healthier.”(很多人一开始会设定模糊的健身目标,比如“减重、更健康”)”,以及后文“but they don’t help much with planning or getting started.(但这些目标对规划或启动锻炼没什么帮助)”可知,此空需先肯定这些目标的初衷,再通过“but”转折指出其不足。A选项“These are great ideas (这些想法很好)”承上启下,先肯定这些想法本身不错,再通过后文转折说明其局限性,符合逻辑衔接。故选A项。
17.根据前文“But if you need to get serious about making yourself get off the sofa and exercise at home, I don’t think they work.(但如果你真的想让自己离开沙发、在家锻炼,这些模糊目标是没用的)”,以及后文“For example, you could set a goal to lift a certain weight with your arms by your next birthday, or lose a certain number of pounds by an upcoming event.(比如,你可以设定一个目标:到下次生日时能用手臂举起一定重量的物体,或在即将到来的某个活动前减重若干磅)”可知,此空需引出“设定具体目标”的必要性。
18.根据前文“For instance, if you set a goal to do a one-legged squat (深蹲) by May and actually achieve it in April, this will make you feel proud and eager to set the next goal,(比如,如果你设定5月前完成单腿深蹲,却在4月就实现了,这会让你感到自豪,并渴望设定下一个目标)”,以及后文“try a rewards system.(试试奖励机制)”可知,此空需假设“单纯的成就感不足以激励”的情况,进而引出奖励机制。E选项“If a general feeling of doing better isn’t enough for you(如果做得更好的普遍成就感对你来说不够)”引出后文的奖励系统,符合语境。故选E项。
根据后文“Cristina Chan, a F45 Global Recovery Athlete, says that tracking your workouts in a way that’s easy to see can make a huge difference when exercising alone. She suggests marking a calendar, using a habit tracker app, or even putting sticky notes on a wall to record your active days.(克里斯蒂娜·陈表示,以清晰可见的方式追踪锻炼进度,对独自锻炼的人来说作用很大。她建议标记日历、使用习惯追踪APP,甚至在墙上贴便利贴记录运动日)”可知,本段围绕“追踪目标进展”展开。D选项“Keep track of how you’re doing toward your goals(记录你朝着目标的进展情况)”为祈使句,点明“记录目标进展”的段落主旨,适合作小标题。故选D项。
20.根据前文“Seeing how regularly you keep doing it over time is a powerful motivator,(长期看到自己规律锻炼的记录,是一种强大的动力)”可知,此空需进一步说明“记录进度”的具体作用。G选项“It enables you to focus on showing up instead of physical results(它能让你专注于坚持参与,而非身体上的结果)”补充说明动力产生的具体原因,符合语境。

Film has seen great progress over the years. While actors and directors often receive most of the praise, the heroes behind the screen are the musicians who make a film unforgettable. 6 This is the kind of music we call a film score (配乐). It has developed through several stages.

Besides, white lanterns are usually used for funerals, as they show sadness and respect for the dead in these serious ceremonies.

Through it, we may see the spiritual support of the ancient people across centuries. Now, sugar painting has been listed as an intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) in China. 15

A.At first, I was a bit hesitant.
B.That warmth and friendliness immediately put me at ease.
C.The water-splashing had a long history for the Dai people.
D.It made me understand that a kind act can break down cultural barriers.
E.This led to my new understanding of communicating with different people.
F.My time at Yunnan’s Water-Splashing Festival was a journey of discovery.
