The study was published online on Monday in the journal Current Biology, which discovered the oldest-known mosquito fossils --- two males dating back 130 million years near the town of Hammana in Lebanon. Dany Azar, who led the study, said the fossils not only told us the ancient origins of mosquitoes but also their feeding habits during the early stages of their growth. “We find that the mosquito group is developing, which gives us an idea about their behavior of feeding on blood” said Azar, who has been working on the subject for more than 25 years. Before the recent findings and their study, only female mosquitoes were known to feed on blood, which they need for protein to produce their eggs. Males, which lack skin-piercing (刺入皮肤的) mouthparts, mostly feed on honey and plant juices. “The feeding habits of insects, such as feeding on blood, are believed to have developed from their piercing mouthparts. However, studying the development of this behavior has been challenging due to the lack of insect fossil records.” Azar said. While reexamining the mosquito fossils last year, Azar found that their unique piercing mouthparts, very similar to those of female mosquitoes today, had been kept well. Their sharp mandibles (下颌骨) gradually disappeared over the centuries. Based on the findings, the researchers agreed that male mosquitoes fed on blood 130 million years ago. Azar, who is now a professor at the Nanjing institute, said he hopes that joint scientific explorations can be widely carried out in the future to promote more discoveries. 28.Which of the following statements is TRUE according to the passage? A.Female mosquitoes feed on blood for protein to produce eggs. B.A minority of male mosquitoes feed on honey and plant juices. C.Two female mosquito fossils were found near the town of Hammana. D.Male mosquitoes have the same feeding habits as female mosquitoes. 29.According to Azar, why is the study on the development of feeding on blood challenging? A.Because his team lacks money. B.Because there is no talent studying it. C.Because his team wants to study another subject. D.Because his team is short of insect fossil records. 30.What conclusion can we draw from mosquito fossils? A.Female mosquitoes fed on blood 130 million years ago. B.Male mosquitoes’ sharp mouthparts gradually disappeared. C.The mouthparts of the female mosquitoes have been kept well. D.Male mosquitoes once shared similar mouthparts with female today. 31.What’s the article mainly about? A.The mosquito group is developing. B.Ancient male mosquitoes probably fed on blood. C.The oldest-known mosquito fossils were discovered. D.Female and male mosquitoes share similar feeding habits now. 根据第四段“Before the recent findings and their study, only female mosquitoes were known to feed on blood, which they need for protein to produce their eggs.(在最近的发现和他们的研究之前,人们只知道雌性蚊子以血液为食,它们需要血液提供蛋白质来产卵。)” 故选A。 29. 根据倒数第三段“However, studying the development of this behavior has been challenging due to the lack of insect fossil records.(然而,由于缺乏昆虫化石记录,研究这种行为的发展一直具有挑战性。)” 根据倒数第二段“While reexamining the mosquito fossils last year, Azar found that their unique piercing mouthparts, very similar to those of female mosquitoes today, had been kept well.(在去年重新检查蚊子化石时,Azar发现它们独特的穿孔口器被保存得很好,与今天的雌蚊子非常相似。)” 通读全文,尤其是第一段“A study led by a researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Nanjing Institute of Geology and Paleontology has updated the fossil (化石) record of mosquitoes (蚊子) by nearly 30 million years and has discovered that ancient male mosquitoes also fed on blood.(中国科学院南京地质古生物研究所的一名研究人员领导的一项研究将蚊子的化石记录更新了近3000万年,并发现古代雄性蚊子也以血为食。)” 。故选B。 D Most people in the Netherlands are convinced that their consumption patterns affect the environment. Many of them are looking for ways to reduce their footprint. However, the reality is more complicated, according to a research by Leiden PhD candidate Levon Amatuni, who studied car sharing and the reuse of phones. He used his background in computer science and mathematics to model and measure the benefits of such practices. His research shows users of car-sharing platforms reduce their impact by only 3 to 18 percent — much less than 51 or 37 percent claimed in previous research. This is caused by so-called “rebound effects”, which are rarely accounted for by companies or even researchers. For example, shared vehicles are replaced with new models more frequently than private cars. Additionally, the introduction of sharing schemes (方案) can encourage people to drive when they would have otherwise taken public transport. These rebound effects turn out to be highly influential. Amatuni also found users of sharing platforms don’t significantly reduce their driving. “And if they do, they often take buses and trains, which aren’t emission-free,” he says. While public transport is usually a better option, its impact is not negligible. So, this data must be included to make an accurate assessment. Similarly, Amatuni discovered that a second-hand phone only offsets (抵消) about one-third of a new phone’s production. Rebound effects are the cause. If people couldn’t sell their old devices, they would use them for longer. In other words, reuse both extends the lifetime of a device — by giving it a new owner — but also shortens it, as people tend to sell their newly bought devices sooner. Amatuni doesn’t want people to conclude taking small steps towards sustainability is pointless. “Our intentions are still what’s most important,” he says, “but meanwhile, people need to realise there’re no easy fixes.” He recommends prioritising overall consumption reduction rather than continuing current habits while trying to make them more efficient. 32.What is the focus of Amatuni’s research? A.The ways of reducing people’s footprint. B.The benefits of car sharing and phone reuse. C.The damage of public transport to the environment. D.The knowledge of computer science and mathematics. 33.What does the underlined word “negligible” in paragraph 3 mean? A.Small. B.Permanent. C.Direct. D.Immediate. 34.Which of the following represents a phone rebound effect? A.Buying new phones often. B.Keeping old phones in use. C.Taking care of new phones. D.Selling used phones cheaply. 35.What is Amatuni’s suggestion on promoting sustainability? A.Stop eco-friendly habits. B.Increase production efficiency. C.Reduce total resource use. D.Seek easy solutions to eco-crisis. 【答案】32.B 33.A 34.A 35.C 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。 根据第二段“His research shows users of car-sharing platforms reduce their impact by only 3 to 18 percent—much less than 51 or 37 percent claimed in previous research. This is caused by so-called “rebound effects”, which are rarely accounted for by companies or even researchers.(他的研究表明,汽车共享平台的用户只减少了3%到18%的影响,远低于之前研究中声称的51%或37%。这是由所谓的“反弹效应”造成的,企业甚至研究人员都很少考虑到这一点。)”可知,Amatuni的研究重点是汽车共享和手机重复使用的好处。故选B。 33.词句猜测题。根据第三段“they often take buses and trains, which aren’t emission-free(他们经常乘坐公共汽车和火车,这些都不是零排放的)”和“this data must be included to make an accurate assessment(为了做出准确的评估,必须包括这些数据)”可知,公共交通的影响并不是微不足道的,negligible的意思是“微不足道的”,和small意思相近。故选A。 34. 根据第四段“Similarly, Amatuni discovered that a second-hand phone only offsets (抵消) about one-third of a new phone’s production. Rebound effects are the cause. If people couldn’t sell their old devices, they would use them for longer.(同样,Amatuni发现,二手手机只抵消了新手机产量的三分之一左右。反弹效应是原因。如果人们不能卖掉他们的旧设备,他们就会使用更长时间。)”可知,经常买新手机代表了手机的反弹效应。故选A。 35. 根据最后一段“He recommends prioritising overall consumption reduction rather than continuing current habits while trying to make them more efficient.(他建议优先考虑整体减少消费,而不是继续目前的习惯,同时试图提高效率。)” Dogs do not see the world in the same way that we do. They rely on their body language for communication. Read on to see the ways they SHOW their feelings and emotions through their actions and behaviors! How They Bark There are several reasons dogs bark. If it is loud and frequent, it might be something urgent. Perhaps they sense danger and want to let you know. 36 Loud barking can also mean that they are in pain. Make sure to pay attention to figure it out! On Your Feet 37 It might be a little annoying, but your dogs mean well! This is their way to show their love and loyalty. They only want to be as close to you as possible. It is behavior that they got from their ancestors when they used to run as a pack. Eye Movement In certain ways, dogs are like humans. 38 They look at the ground when they feel tired or sad. Meanwhile, they open their eyes wide and look around when they are excited. A raised eyebrow might mean confusion. Make sure to take these all into account! Barking At Nothing Sometimes when our dogs are looking out the window and start barking, we notice there is nothing actually there for the dog to bark at, so why are they barking? 39 Your house is their house, too, and they want any and all intruders (侵入者) to know that they are there. 40 If your dog refuses to eat when another dog or human is in the room with them, it is not because of any other reason except for the fact that they do not want to share their food with you. While humans likely don’t think about this because we don’t eat dog food, dogs don’t understand that! A.Only Eating Alone B.Using Their Tails C.They tend to show emotions with their eyes as well. D.Shorter and softer barks, meanwhile, mean that they want to play. E.They could be doing this because they are protecting your house. F.Dogs like to lie on your feet when you are eating dinner or watching TV. G.They have been waiting for you to come back, and they cannot control their excitement. 36.根据空前“There are several reasons dogs bark. Perhaps they sense danger and want to let you know.(狗叫有几个原因。如果声音很大而且频繁,那可能是紧急的事情。也许他们感觉到了危险,想让你知道。)”,空后说“Loud barking can also mean that they are in pain.(大声的吠叫也可能意味着它们很痛苦。)”,因此空格处应该也是介绍某种吠叫是什么意思,D选项“Shorter and softer barks, meanwhile, mean that they want to play.(同时,更短更柔和的吠声意味着它们想要玩耍。)” 37.本段小标题是“On Your Feet(在你的脚上)”,所以本段主要讲狗喜欢在你的脚上,F选项“Dogs like to lie on your feet when you are eating dinner or watching TV.(当你吃饭或看电视时,狗喜欢躺在你的脚上。)”和本段小标题相符合,“on your feet”和小标题“On Your Feet”一致,因此F选项引起下文,符合语境,故选F。 38.本段小标题是“Eye Movement(眼睛的活动)”,空后说“They look at the ground when they feel tired or sad. Meanwhile, they open their eyes wide and look around when they are excited. A raised eyebrow might mean confusion.(当他们感到疲倦或悲伤时,他们会看着地面。与此同时,当他们兴奋时,他们会睁大眼睛环顾四周。扬起眉毛可能意味着困惑。)”,这说明狗也会用自己的眼睛的活动来表达情绪,C选项“They tend to show emotions with their eyes as well.(他们也倾向于用眼睛表达情感。)” 39.本段小标题是“Barking At Nothing(无原因地叫)”,空后说“Your house is their house, too, and they want any and all intruders (侵入者) to know that they are there.(你的房子也是它们的房子,它们希望所有的入侵者都知道它们在那里。)”,也就是说狗在保护家,E选项“They could be doing this because they are protecting your house.(他们这么做可能是为了保护你的房子。)” 40.空格处是本段小标题,根据空格下方的内容“If your dog refuses to eat when another dog or human is in the room with them, it is not because of any other reason except for the fact that they do not want to share their food with you.(如果你的狗拒绝吃东西,当另一只狗或人与它在一个房间里,这不是因为任何其他原因,除了事实,他们不想与你分享他们的食物。)” Born in Moscow, Russia, Mason is a disabled person, with no legs and only one arm. B “If knowledge is power, then learning is a Super Power.” That’s the motto of Jim Kwik, a world leader in speed learning and best brain performance whose cutting-edge techniques and impressive mental achievements have made him a rock star of the personal transformation world. At the age of five, Jim was sitting on a chair in his classroom. Suddenly, hearing a fire engine alarm, Jim Kwik who saw firemen as superheroes lifted his chair and moved to the corridor to watch them. Standing over the chair to watch the firemen, Jim Kwik was late to react as his fellow mate pulled his chair and he got his head severely injured. After that accident, he was never back to normal. He couldn’t remember and understand things, struggling to cope with schooling as he said once that his heart would beat out of his chest whenever his teacher asked him to read aloud a book in front of his classmates. He still remembered a teacher talking to other teachers pointing him out and naming him as “a boy with the broken brain”. His parents were very protective. But Jim never gave up! He taught himself by reading comic books every night under the blankets with the flashlight. By doing this every day he taught himself how to read in three years. Finally, Jim got a chance to have some success in school. Today, he is a highly sought-out brain trainer for top companies and organizations, with some of his videos reaching over 20 million views, and he’s known for having coached Hollywood stars like Will Smith and Hugh Jackman along with the cast of the movie X-Men. 24.What do we know about Jim Kwik? A.He heals brain and mental diseases. B.He is a world famous learning expert. C.He was injured by his classmate on purpose. D.He got injured when taking part in a fire fighting. 25.What happened to Jim after the accident? A.He never went back to school. B.He felt nervous to talk with classmates. C.He found it difficult to handle school tasks. D.He was called ”broken brain"by his classmates. 26.Which word can best describe the story of Jim Kwik? A.Tragic. B.Embarrassing. C.Inspiring. D.Entertaining. 27.Which would be the best title for the text? A.Knowledge Is a Super Power B.Learning Makes a Brain Change C.A Super Brain Guarantees Success D.An Accident Turned Out a Blessing C A study led by a researcher from the Chinese Academy of Sciences’ Nanjing Institute of Geology and Paleontology has updated the fossil (化石) record of mosquitoes (蚊子) by nearly 30 million years and has discovered that ancient male mosquitoes also fed on blood. D Most people in the Netherlands are convinced that their consumption patterns affect the environment. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Dogs do not see the world in the same way that we do. 第三部分 语言运用(共三节,满分50分) 第一节 (共15小题;每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 Born in Moscow, Russia, Mason is a disabled person, with no legs and only one arm.
