Hass, who instructed each student to memorize three poems of their choosing from The Norton Anthology of American Literature—not for any urgent exam reason, he claimed, but instead to prepare them for their unavoidable future occasions when you’re going to be alone, and poetry is going to be all you have. If the task was as a strange one, it’s because the act of memorizing a poem feels curiously old-fashioned in an era when few of us encounter poetry at all. When I was in graduate school, working toward a degree in English literature, I mostly limited myself to essays. It was only in my 40s that I began to change my ways. It happened in a flight to Seattle. For hours, I read nothing else but a poem. Sometimes I spoke its lines aloud, my voice masked by the airplane’s thrum. Sometimes I went through the whole poem at once, and sometimes I repeated a single stanza (诗节) over and over, and by the time my plane landed on the West Coast, I had the whole thing, all 40 lines of it, in my head. Because the process is as simple as it is very boring, memorizing a great poem always begins as a crime. The boredom of repetition reduces the great charm it has. But as you run your hands through the rock, the lines at last come together again, and the scattered text transforms back into a treasure. In other words, poetry survives continuously by becoming a part of those who read it. It can do so only because it is so specific, so entirely different from us, that taking it in expands our own sense of what we are. Some of the poems I’ve memorized are already fading, and that’s fine. I know that if I spend a little time with them, they’ll sing in me again. Others keep beating in me like a new pulse. I won’t promise you that memorizing poetry will make your life better, but it will make you more: more in touch with language, with other minds, maybe with what you might yet become. 4. Why did Robert L. Hass advise students to read poems? A. To become literature professors. B. To prepare for the coming exams. C. To compose more original poems. D. To relieve their future loneliness. 5. Why does the author say that memorizing a poem begins as a crime? A. It’s out of date to recite poems. B. Repetition wastes a lot of time. C. Repetition ruins the poem’s beauty. D. It’s a shame to read poems on plane. 6. How does understanding poetry influence us? A. By broadening self-understanding. B. By refreshing our good memories. C. By helping us survive the hard life. D. By reminding us to forget the past. 7. What is the author’s attitude towards memorizing poetry in the last paragraph? A. Doubtful. B. Reserved. C. Appreciative. D. Critical. D 5. C 6. A 7. 根据文章第一段中“not for any urgent exam reason, he claimed, but instead to prepare them for their unavoidable future occasions when you’re going to be alone, and poetry is going to be all you have(他声称,这不是因为任何紧急的考试原因,而是为了让他们为将来不可避免的孤独时刻做好准备,届时诗歌将成为你唯一拥有的东西)。” 根据文章第二段中“Because the process is as simple as it is very boring, memorizing a great poem always begins as a crime. The boredom of repetition reduces the great charm it has(因为这个过程既简单又无聊,背诵一首伟大的诗总是开始得像是一种罪过。重复的无聊减少了它所具有的巨大魅力)。”可知,作者认为背诵诗歌的过程中,重复的无聊会破坏诗歌的魅力,因此开始背诵诗歌时就像是一种罪过。故选C。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据文章第三段中“In other words, poetry survives continuously by becoming a part of those who read it. It can do so only because it is so specific, so entirely different from us, that taking it in expands our own sense of what we are(换句话说,诗歌通过成为读者的一部分而不断存在。它之所以能做到这一点,是因为它是如此的具体,与我们如此的不同,以至于接受它扩展了我们对自己是什么的感觉)。”可知,理解诗歌可以扩展我们对自我的认识,影响我们对自我的理解。A选项“By broadening self-understanding.(通过拓宽自我理解)”符合题意。故选A。 根据文章最后一段中“I won’t promise you that memorizing poetry will make your life better, but it will make you more: more in touch with language, with other minds, maybe with what you might yet become(我不会向你保证背诵诗歌会让你的生活变得更好,但它会让你变得更多:更多地接触语言,接触其他思想,也许还有你可能成为的样子)。” C。 C Properly drinking coffee or tea might help lower the risk of stroke (中风) and dementia (痴呆), according to a study of healthy people aged 50-74. This study was I published on November 16 in the open-access journal PLOS Medicine. Strokes are serious health events that cause 10% of deaths worldwide. Dementia is a term for symptoms(症状) that show a fall in brain function and is a major health issue globally, with high economic and social costs. Post-stroke dementia is when dementia symptoms appear after a stroke. Yuan Zhang and his colleagues from Tianjin Medical University in China studied 365,682participants(参与者) from the UK Biobank. These participants were chosen between 2006and 2010 and were followed until 2020. At the beginning of the study, participants reported how much coffee and tea they drank. During the study, 5,079 participants developed dementia and 10.053 had at least one stroke. The study found that people who drank 2-3 cups of coffee or 3-5 cups of tea per day, or a combination of 4-6 cups of coffee and tea, had the lowest rates of stroke or dementia. Those who drank 2-3 cups of coffee and 2-3 cups of tea daily had a 32% lower risk of stroke and a 28% lower risk of dementia compared to those who drank neither coffee nor tea. Drinking coffee alone or with tea was also linked to a lower risk of dementia after a stroke. The UK Biobank participants were relatively healthy compared to the general population, which might limit how well these results apply to everyone. Also, not many people in the study developed dementia or had a stroke, making it hard to apply these findings to larger groups. Lastly, while coffee and tea might help protect against stroke and dementia, the study cannot prove that drinking them causes these benefits. The authors said, “Our findings suggest that properly drinking coffee and tea, separately or together, is associated with a lower risk of stroke and dementia.” 8. What is the result of the study? A. Stroke and dementia have led to many deaths. B. Stroke and dementia result from coffee and tea drinking. C. Properly drinking coffee and tea may lower the risk of stroke and dementia. D. Drinking coffee and tea can be helpful in dealing with post-stroke dementia. 9. How did Yuan Zhang and his colleagues conduct the study? A. By turning to the government for help. B. By choosing volunteers all over China. C. By picking out suitable participants from the UK. D. By collecting participants from the UK Biobank. 10. What can we learn about the study from the last paragraph? A. The help from the UK Biobank is limited. B. The results of the study are widely accepted. C. Most of the samples from the UK Biobank have severe diseases. D. Samples from the UK Biobank are effective and enough for the study. 11. From which is the text probably taken? A. A travel brochure. B. A health magazine. C. A biology textbook. D. A fashion website. C 9. D 10. A 11. 根据第一段“Properly drinking coffee or tea might help lower the risk of stroke (中风) and dementia (痴呆), according to a study of healthy people aged 50-74. (一项针对50-74岁健康人群的研究表明,适量饮用咖啡或茶可能有助于降低中风和痴呆的风险。)”以及第四段“The study found that people who drank 2-3 cups of coffee or 3-5 cups of tea per day, or a combination of 4-6 cups of coffee and tea, had the lowest rates of stroke or dementia. (研究发现,每天喝2-3杯咖啡或3-5杯茶,或喝4-6杯咖啡和茶的人,中风或痴呆症的发病率最低。)”可知,该研究的结果是适量饮用咖啡和茶可能降低中风和痴呆的风险。故选C项。 【9题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Yuan Zhang and his colleagues from Tianjin Medical University in China studied 365,682participants (参与者) from the UK Biobank.(来自中国天津医科大学的张远及其同事对英国生物样本库中的365,682名参与者进行了研究。)” 根据最后一段“The UK Biobank participants were relatively healthy compared to the general population, which might limit how well these results apply to everyone. Also, not many people in the study developed dementia or had a stroke, making it hard to apply these findings to larger groups. (与普通人群相比,英国生物样本库的参与者相对健康,这可能会限制这些结果对所有人的适用程度。此外,研究中患痴呆或中风的人并不多,这使得这些发现难以应用到更大的群体中。)”可知,英国生物样本库提供的参与者存在局限性,导致研究结果的适用范围受限,即英国生物样本库的帮助是有限的。故选A项。 通读全文特别是第一段“This study was I published on November 16 in the open-access journal PLOS Medicine. (该研究于11月16日发表在开放获取期刊《PLOS 医学》上。)” 可知,文章围绕一项关于“适量饮用咖啡或茶可能降低中风和痴呆风险”的健康研究展开,介绍了研究背景、过程、结果及局限性,内容与人体健康密切相关。文章属于健康领域相关内容,最可能取自健康杂志。故选B项。 D When babies are exposed to a variety of faces, they become more adept in recognizing and appreciating diversity, which can help reduce biases and prejudices as they grow. This is according to neuroscientist Saskia Koch of the Donders Institute and Radboud University. Koch conducted her research using data from the Nijmegen longitudinal study. This study follows young people from infancy (婴儿期). First, the researchers looked at how frequently the teenagers had attended day care as babies. Then, the same youngsters were assigned the duty of playing a game when they reached the age of 17. In the game, they had to work with another person they couldn’t see. Both players had the same goal: find an object on a gameboard. Only the 17-year-old knew where the item was. The 17-year-olds had to communicate this location to each other without using words. They had to design communicative patterns that would assist the other person in locating the object. This could be accomplished, for example, by performing specific movements. The 17-year-olds were informed they were playing with a 5-year-old in one game and an adult in another, despite the fact that it was the same individual each time. Initially, the 17- year-olds adjusted their communicative patterns when they thought they were interacting with the child by placing more emphasis on their movements. How quickly they abandoned this pattern depended on how much time they spent in day care. 17-year-olds who had come into contact with many different people as infants were more likely to get over a stereotype They found out in the interaction that the “child” was also very good and then based their play on that. According to the researcher this means that babies who have had more diverse social interactions can more easily let go of a stereotype later in life. They are more sensitive to social interaction and can more quickly let go of the image they have in their minds of their peers. Koch says, “Gaining many diverse social experiences early in life allows us to adapt better to the needs of our partners in social interaction. ” 12. What does the underlined word “adept” in paragraph 1 mean? A. Forgetful. B. Skillful. C. Interested. D. Disappointed. 13. What was the purpose of the game in the study? A. To confirm the data from the Nijmegen study. B. To test the impacts of early social interactions. C. To enhance the youngsters’ cooperative ability. D. To assess the effects of communicative patterns. 14. How did the 17-year-olds first respond to the “child” in the game? A. They changed their fixed idea of a child. B. They adjusted the time spent on the game. C. They performed more specific movements. D. They employed verbal interactive patterns. 15. What helps babies with future social contacts according to Koch? A. Interacting with various people. B. Engaging with diverse peers. C. Adapting to the needs of partners. D. Letting go of the old images. B 13. B 14. C 15. 根据第一段“When babies are exposed to a variety of faces, they become more adept in recognizing and appreciating diversity, which can help reduce biases and prejudices as they grow. (当婴儿接触到各种各样的面孔时,他们在识别和欣赏多样性方面变得更加____,这有助于在他们成长过程中减少偏见和歧视)”以及最后一段“According to the researcher this means that babies who have had more diverse social interactions can more easily let go of a stereotype later in life. They are more sensitive to social interaction and can more quickly let go of the image they have in their minds of their peers. (根据研究人员的说法,这意味着那些有更多样化社交互动的婴儿在以后的生活中更容易摆脱刻板印象。他们对社交互动更敏感,能更快地放下他们脑海中对同龄人的印象)”可知,婴儿接触多种面孔时,在识别和欣赏多样性方面会变得更熟练,划线单词表示 “熟练的,擅长的”,与Skillful意义相近。故选B项。 【13题详解】 推理判断题。根据第二段“Koch conducted her research using data from the Nijmegen longitudinal study. This study follows young people from infancy (婴儿期). First, the researchers looked at how frequently the teenagers had attended day care as babies. Then, the same youngsters were assigned the duty of playing a game when they reached the age of 17. (科赫利用奈梅亨纵向研究的数据进行了她的研究。这项研究从婴儿期开始跟踪年轻人。首先,研究人员调查了这些青少年婴儿时期上日托所的频率。然后,当这些年轻人长到17岁时,他们被安排玩一个游戏)”以及后文对游戏过程中不同婴儿期经历对17岁青少年行为影响的描述可知,游戏的目的是测试早期社会互动的影响。故选B项。 【14题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Initially, the 17- year-olds adjusted their communicative patterns when they thought they were interacting with the child by placing more emphasis on their movements. (起初,17岁的青少年在认为自己在与孩子互动时,会通过更强调自己的动作来调整他们的交流模式)”可知,17岁的青少年最初认为在和孩子互动时,会更强调自己的特定动作。故选C项。 【15题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“According to the researcher this means that babies who have had more diverse social interactions can more easily let go of a stereotype later in life. They are more sensitive to social interaction and can more quickly let go of the image they have in their minds of their peers. Koch says, “Gaining many diverse social experiences early in life allows us to adapt better to the needs of our partners in social interaction.”(根据研究人员的说法,这意味着在婴儿时期有更多样化社交互动的孩子在以后的生活中更容易摆脱刻板印象。他们对社交互动更敏感,能更快地摆脱心中对同龄人的固有印象。科赫说:“在生命早期获得许多不同的社交经验,能让我们在社交互动中更好地适应伴侣的需求。”)”可知,根据科赫的说法,婴儿与各种各样的人互动有助于他们未来的社交。故选A项。 Multitasking is really bad for how much work you can get done. When we do multiple tasks at once, we keep “switching tasks”. ___16___ Switching between tasks a lot makes you less productive. Even though each switch cost might be small, when we keep changing between tasks over and over, those small costs add up to a lot. Multitasking might seem efficient at first, but in the end, it can take more time and lead to more mistakes. So, how do we start mono-tasking that is doing one task at a time? Try to work deeply, focusing on one thing. Instead of working in short 15 — 20-minute bursts, set aside 2 to 4 hours each day to work on a single project without any interruptions. Extending focused working time can improve work efficiency as well as work quality. ___17___ Get rid of distractions in your work environment. Mono-tasking is as much about getting rid of distractions as it is about focusing. ___18___ Mark fixed time on your calendar for specific work. ___19___ Schedule your day around peak performance times. Whether it’s early in the morning , right after lunch, or late at night, everyone has times of the day when they’re more productive. Once you identify your peak performance time, guard it! Focus on what’s important. Try to remember: At the end of our lives, no one will remember how quickly we responded to emails; no one on their deathbed asks for more time to sit through another budget meeting. ___20___ This is the key part of doing one task at a time. A. Avoiding distraction is of vital importance. B. Plan deep work for times when you work best. C. This causes a “switch cost” — the time needed to get used to a new task. D. Instead, we look for more time to concentrate on the meaningful thing. E. Frequent task switching can boost productivity a lot. F. Shut down your phones’ apps or anything else that sends notification. G. It can also reduce your work stress to some extent. C 17. G 18. F 19. B 20. 【16题详解】 前文“Multitasking is really bad for how much work you can get done. When we do multiple tasks at once, we keep “switching tasks”. (多任务处理对你能完成多少工作是有害的。当我们同时做多项任务时,我们会不断地“切换任务”)”提到不断切换任务,后文“Switching between tasks a lot makes you less productive. Even though each switch cost might be small, when we keep changing between tasks over and over, those small costs add up to a lot. (频繁地在不同任务之间切换会降低你的效率。尽管每次转换的成本可能很小,但当我们不断地在任务之间切换时,这些小成本加起来就会很大)”说明每次切换都会降低效率,因此C项“This causes a “switch cost” — the time needed to get used to a new task. (这会导致“切换成本”——即适应新任务所需的时间)”符合语境,解释任务切换的具体负面影响,承前启后。故选C。 【17题详解】 前文“Extending focused working time can improve work efficiency as well as work quality. (延长专注的工作时间可以提高工作效率和工作质量)”指出延长专注时间可以提升效率和质量,空处应补充额外益处,因此G项“It can also reduce your work stress to some extent. (这也能在一定程度上降低你的工作压力)”符合语境,补充减轻工作压力的益处,承接前文,其中的It指代前文的Extending focused working time。故选G。 【18题详解】 前文“Mono-tasking is as much about getting rid of distractions as it is about focusing. (单任务处理既要集中注意力,也要避免分心)”建议排除干扰,后文“Mark fixed time on your calendar for specific work. (在日历上为特定的工作标记固定的时间)”给出固定工作时间的具体措施,空处应同样给出排除干扰的具体措施,因此F项“Shut down your phones’ apps or anything else that sends notification. (关闭手机应用或其他发送通知的功能)”符合语境,建议关闭通知以避免干扰,承接前文,和后文行为逻辑连贯。故选F。 【19题详解】 后文“Schedule your day around peak performance times. Whether it’s early in the morning , right after lunch, or late at night, everyone has times of the day when they’re more productive. (把你的一天安排在工作效率最高的时候。无论是清晨、午饭后还是深夜,每个人都有一天中效率最高的时候)”主要讨论个人高效时段,建议在这一时段工作,空处是段落主旨句,应建议在个人高效时段工作,且需和其他段落主旨句一样使用祈使句的形式,因此B项“Plan deep work for times when you work best. (在你效率最高的时段安排深度工作)”符合语境,契合后文内容。故选B。 【20题详解】 前文“Try to remember: At the end of our lives, no one will remember how quickly we responded to emails; no one on their deathbed asks for more time to sit through another budget meeting. (试着记住:在我们生命的尽头,没有人会记得我们回复邮件的速度有多快;没有人在临终前会要求更多的时间来坐着开另一个预算会议)”批判无意义的忙碌,后文“This is the key part of doing one task at a time. (这是一次只做一项任务的关键部分)”强调某件事的关键性,空处应给出做有意义的事的建议,因此D项“Instead, we look for more time to concentrate on the meaningful thing. (相反,我们应争取更多时间专注真正有意义的事)”符合语境,提到应专注真正有意义的事,承前启后,选项内容是后文This指代的对象。故选D。 第三部分 语言运用(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共15小题:每小题1分,满分15分) 阅读下面短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。 “I’m closer to them than members of my own family,” said the conservationist Freya Aspinall, referring to the lions she has rescued. Her father has been the main public face of the Aspinall Foundation, a(n) ____21____ that “rewilds” animals by releasing them in the wild. But ____22____ it is Freya Aspinall who is bringing their conservation message to a new audience, with 1.2 million TikTok ____23____ and another 1.4 million on Instagram. She first became a conservation influencer after a video of her sitting with lions ____24____. Her experience has shown how she has ____25____ a younger generation in a way many conservationists have failed to do. “Social media, obviously, has got its negative effects, but it can be such a ____26____ tool,” Aspinall said. “I want to reach those who don’t care about animals and to ____27____ with individuals and platforms that haven’t considered using their influence for conservation. That’s how a difference is made in the world, if you can ____28____ people’s mindsets, especially the young generation.” Now she is acting as “mother figure” to four lion cubs. Any time I wasn’t studying, I was putting on my sports shoes and hitting the school stadium. Just before bed, I’d look up videos of LeBron James and Kevin Durant, trying to learn from the professionals. Day and night, all I could think about was how to get better and how to improve. After months and months of practice and playing on the junior varsity team, Coach Moore finally told me one day that I was going to be playing for our school’s varsity basketball team going into my junior year. Success! Time for the big league! What I didn’t know, however, was that I was going to face a pretty big challenge in the form of a new transfer student: Chet Harrison. Harrison had just transferred from another school, Westmoreland High School, where he had already been playing for the varsity team. There were rumors floating around that he was nearly guaranteed a spot playing in the National Collegiate Athletic Association and maybe even the National Basketball League someday. I’ll admit, the kid was a natural talent when it came to playing basketball. But Harrison’s biggest weakness was his personality. He seemed selfish and sometimes acted like a bully, always seeking attention and showing off after scoring goals. Despite his loyal following of fans, I couldn’t stand him. But after Coach Moore said that Harrison and I would be playing together, I decided to accept it and make peace with the situation. After months of putting up with Harrison’s attitude, I nearly had enough. Just before the winter break, however, we played a home match against Harrison’s old school Westmoreland and we lost. Harrison in particular felt utterly embarrassed. I found Harrison struggling to fight off tears in a corner of the boys’ locker room. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ After months of working together, we found ourselves again facing Westmoreland on the basketball court for the finals. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】I found Harrison struggling to fight off tears in a corner of the boys’ locker room. After I sat down with Harrison to comfort him, he told me that he felt like something was wrong with him. “I tried so hard to carry the team, and everyone was counting on me,” he told me. “But when it mattered the most, I just blew it.” Seeing this vulnerable side of him made me realize he needed support. I encouraged him not to burden himself with too much pressure, reminding him that winning comes from teamwork. Wiping away his tears, Harrison nodded and agreed to turn over a new leaf. After months of working together, we found ourselves again facing Westmoreland on the basketball court for the finals. This was it — our big moment! The score was still tied as we neared the end of the third period, and we did not want to let the game go into overtime as we were all exhausted fighting hard for each goal. Then, we saw our chance. The ball was passed between players until it reached me. Harrison made a precise pass, and I shot the winning goal just before the timer hit zero. We did it! As we lined up to receive our trophy, Harrison and I hugged, celebrating our victory as a team. 词汇激活 行为类 ①依赖:count on/rely on/depend on ②鼓舞:encourage/inspire ③拥抱:hug/embrace 情绪类 ①安慰:comfort/console ②脆弱的:vulnerable/fragile 【点睛】[高分句型1]. B Decades ago, my friend Caetlin received a special assignment from the poet Robert L. D. Critical. C Properly drinking coffee or tea might help lower the risk of stroke (中风) and dementia (痴呆), according to a study of healthy people aged 50-74. The UK Biobank participants were relatively healthy compared to the general population which might limit how well these results apply to everyone. D Drinking coffee and tea can be helpful in dealing with post-stroke dementia. D When babies are exposed to a variety of faces, they become more adept in recognizing and appreciating diversity, which can help reduce biases and prejudices as they grow. Koch says “Gaining many diverse social experiences early in life allows us to adapt better to the needs of our partners in social interaction. Multitasking is really bad for how much work you can get done. “I’m closer to them than members of my own family,” said the conservationist Freya Aspinall, referring to the lions she has rescued. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
