【原文】M: For many writers, cafes are the best places to go when an important deadline is coming up. One cafe in Japan has decided to target writers that need to get their work done quickly. The manuscript Writing Cafe in Tokyo opened in April 2022. The cafe is designed to help writers struggling with writer’s block. The cafe is small, but it provides everything necessary for writers to sharpen their focus and finish their assignments. The cafe won’t even let customers take a seat unless they will be doing some kind of writing or artistic project. That means comic book artists and authors as well as songwriters are also welcome. What makes the manuscript Writing Cafe even more unique is that customers have to announce their writing goals for the day to the cafe staff. Customers are also charged for each half-hour they stay at the cafe. What’s more, they aren’t allowed to leave until they have completed their work for the day. What do you think? Does that sound like a good system to beat writer’s block?
第二部分 阅读(共两节,满分50分)
第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Alexandre Dumas: The Count of Monte Cristo (《基督山伯爵》)
Edmond Dantes, the main character, a young sailor who is falsely imprisoned and later reappears as the mysterious Count of Monte Cristo. He transformed from an innocent, hopeful first mate into a calculating, almost superhuman figure of revenge. With the help of his friend, Abbe Faria, Dantes escapes, and returns to society under new identities to destroy his enemies. The book’s major themes — patience, hope, justice, mercy and forgiveness — are explored through his inner struggle and the suffering of those around him.
Stendhal: The Red and the Black (《红与黑》)
Julien Sorel, a carpenter’s son, whose burning ambition drives him to climb the social ladder. Vain, calculating, but also intelligent and sensitive, Julian finds himself in constant conflict with the limit of his lowly birth and the hypocrisy (虚伪) of the world he inhabits. Set during the Bourbon Restoration (波旁王朝复辟), the book shows a France where birth matters more than talent. By playing roles — model seminarian, loyal secretary, romantic lover — depending on what the moment demands, people can acquire success easily.
Margaret Mitchell: Gone with the Wind (《飘》)
The Civil War shattered the economy of the American South and brought an end to slavery. In its wake, the luxury life enjoyed by the slave — owning class was swept away by the winds. Driven by a powerful determination to hold on to Tara, her family’s plantation, Scarlett — a spoiled daughter who is selfish, clever, stubborn, and often cruel — fights to survive her previous world’s collapse, giving the novel its energy. Scarlett’s story tells us that life is full of losses, but the greatest power of life lies in adapting and moving forward.
Tolstoy: Anna Karenina (《安娜·卡列尼娜》)
For the intelligent and sensitive Anna, painfully conscious of her marital (婚姻的) trap, the passion that began as a brave pursuit of happiness was ultimately replaced by a sense of exclusion when society froze her out for defying (抵抗) its rules. The book explores the meaning of romance, from the destructive to the sacrificial, alongside the crushing effects of society which transform her from confidence into jealousy, isolation and finally despair. Through the story, Tolstoy is asking each reader a hard question: how much of your happiness are you willing to risk?
21. Which book displayed the character’s struggle between classes?
A. The Count of Monte Cristo. B. The Red and the Black.
C. Gone with the Wind D. Anna Karenina.
22. What can we infer from the passage?
A. Scarlett owned slaves previously.
B. Julian played an important role in Bourbon Restoration’s success.
C. Bad marriage transformed Anna from confidence into despair.
D. Edmond reappeared as The Count of Monte Cristo with the proposal of Abbe.
23. Which of the following is the most appropriate pairing between a book and its sentences?
① The Count of Monte Cristo. ② The Red and the Black.
③ Gone with the Wind. ④ Anna Karenina.
a) “Until the day when God will deign (屈尊) to reveal the future to man, all human wisdom is contained in these two words: ‘Wait and Hope.’”
b) “To devote himself to moments of perfect hypocrisy, and, misfortune, to have neither genius nor audacity (大胆) anymore.”
c) “No, nor any of my folks. If I have to lie, steal, cheat or kill. As God is my witness, I’m never going to be hungry again.”
d) “... seemed to say to her: ‘We are different, you and I. You are fallen, and I am respectable.’... She felt herself completely isolated.”

The Louvre Museum in Paris was closed to the public on Sunday “for exceptional reasons” following a robbery in which nine items of great historical value were stolen, French authorities said. No injuries were reported.
At around 9:30 am local time, a gang of four burglars broke into the museum’s Apollo Gallery — home to the French Crown Jewels and other treasures — by smashing the gallery’s windows with angle grinders after hanging themselves up from outside on a cherry picker.
Among the robbery’s targets were a sapphire necklace from the jewelry of Queen Marie Amelie and Queen Hortense and a tiara from Empress Eugenie. During their escape, the gang abandoned one of the nine stolen items, which was found damaged near the museum.
French Interior Minister Laurent Nunez, who visited the scene, described the stolen items as being of “inestimable” heritage value. The Louvre and the Ministry of Culture are working to compile (编译) a detailed list of the stolen items and assess their value. Nunez said he was “hopeful” that the perpetrators (犯罪嫌疑人), who fled on a motorcycle, would be apprehended “very quickly.”
“We are well aware that French museums are highly vulnerable,” the interior minister said when asked about possible defects in the surveillance (监控) system.
The Louvre’s management had previously warned of fundamental facility problems affecting the preservation and security of its collections, waiting for a major renovation (翻新) program.
Culture Minister Rachida Dati told the television network TF1 that “organized crime today targets works of art and museums have become targets.”
The last recorded theft at the Louvre occurred in 1998, when a painting was stolen in broad daylight and has not been recovered.

A. By damaging the lock of the gallery’s front gate.
B. By hanging themselves up and entering from the roof.
C. By breaking down the gallery’s window with tools.
D. By digging through a tunnel under the gallery.
25. What does the underlined word “apprehended” probably mean in the passage?
A. Be sentenced to death. B. Be arrested by the police.
C. Give back the items subjectively. D. Escape from the scene.
26. What can we learn from the passage?
A. The museum minister is confident about the surveillance system.
B. The Louvre Museum has experienced two thefts since it was built.
C. The nine historical items stolen away by the thieves were valuable.
D. The theft was done before the upgrade of the fundamental facilities.
27. What’s the official’s attitude towards the theft?
A. Indifferent B. Skeptical C. Approving D. Disgusted

Do you have a brain for math? New research indicates that levels of two key neurotransmitters (脑神经传递素) — glutamate (谷氨酸) and gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) can predict mathematical abilities, suggesting brain chemistry may be playing a role in those who find math easy. The new study, published in the journal PLOS Biology, recruited 255 subjects extending a range of six-year olds in primary school to university students. The research focused on glutamate and GABA, known to play a role in brain plasticity (可塑性) and learning. Based on prior research, the focus was on two brain regions linked with mathematical abilities — the left intraparietal sulcus (IPS顶叶内沟) and the left middle frontal gyrus (MFG脑额中回).
The results were interestingly different. In the youngest subjects high GABA levels and low glutamate levels in the left IPS were consistently associated with high math skills. But in the older university group the exact opposite was seen: low GABA and high glutamate were linked with strong mathematical abilities. Levels of both neurotransmitters in the MFG did not associate with math skills.
The group was tested twice over 18 months, allowing the researchers to see if these neurotransmitter levels could predict mathematical ability into the future. And it worked, with neurotransmitter levels effectively predicting one’s success on math tests completed a year and a half later.
Another recent study from the same research team looked specifically at GABA levels in MFG of 14 to 18 year olds. That research indicated MFG GABA levels could effectively predict whether a student was still studying maths or had ceased that subject years prior.
Cohen Kadosh, one of the researchers working on the study, says this may indicate math education can help stimulate the development of key brain regions. Further research will work on whether certain learning interventions can help those children less interested in math so these brain regions still get the developmental workout they need.
“Not every adolescent enjoys maths so we need to investigate possible alternatives, such as training in logic and reasoning that engage the same brain area as maths,” says Cohen Kadosh.
28. What is the new study aimed at?
A. Exploring mental development of the subjects.
B. Finding the tie between brain chemistry and math.
C. Testing the link between brain regions.
D. Revealing the structure of brain.
29. What can be learned from the findings?
A. The levels of GABA decide one’s math skills.
B. Low MFG glutamate means poor math ability.
C. Neurotransmitters in the MFG affect math skills.
D. Math education may help with brain development.
30. What can better math education according to Cohen Kadosh?
A. Studying more possible options. B. Tracing slow learners early learning.
C. Training math learners respectively. D. Developing key relevant brain areas.
31. What may be a proper way to improve adolescents’ math ability from the passage?
A. Doing exercise books and recite crucial models.
B. Absorb knowledge in class as much as they can.
C. Inject an appropriate amount of GABA into the body.
D. Play games like 3D Gomoku (五子棋) and puzzle cubes.
【答案】28. B 29. D 30. D 31. D

Recently, a research team from Shanghai-based Fudan University has developed the world’s first full-featured, 2D flash chip enabled by system integration, marking a milestone in the engineering of 2D electronic devices.
This breakthrough integrates the ultrafast 2D flash memory device with a mature silicon (硅)-based complementary metal oxide (氧化物) semiconductor, or CMOS technology, providing a model to accelerate the transition of next-generation disruptive (颠覆性的) devices from research to application.
However, the process of industrializing disruptive innovations for system-level applications often takes a prolonged time. The team from Fudan University’s State Key Laboratory of Integrated Chips and Systems strategically integrated their 2D flash technology into the industry’s CMOS platform, providing a way to turn the concept of the 2D electronics device into a complex system application.
A core challenge for the team was how to integrate the 2D materials with CMOS technology without compromising performance. The surface of a CMOS circuit is quite rough due to the underlying components, while the 2D semiconductor materials are only 1 to 3 atoms thick. Such materials can easily break if they are directly placed on CMOS circuits.
“This is like looking at Shanghai from space. It seems flat, but within the city, there are buildings of varying heights — over 400 meters, 100 meters, or just a few dozen meters. If you lay a thin film over the city, the film itself would not be flat,” said Zhou, adding that this explains why researchers worldwide in 2D semiconductors can only process materials on extremely flat native substrates so far.
In their research, the team decided to start with 2D materials that innerly possess a certain degree of flexibility. By employing a modular integration approach, the scientists fabricated the 2D memory circuits on the mature CMOS circuits and used high-density (密度) interconnection technology for communication between different modules. This innovative core process allows for the tight coupling of 2D materials with CMOS substrates (基底) at the atomic scale.
“This research represents a ‘source technology’ in China’s integrated circuit field, allowing the country to take the lead in next generation core storage technologies,” said Zhou.

阅读短文,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
“I’m tone-deaf.” “I’m not really a singer.” When you’re comparing yourself to Whitney Houston, Ariana Grande or Beyoncé, it’s easy to feel that singing is out of reach. ____36____ Singing is the only instrument that people don’t allow themselves to not be good at right away. So give yourself permission to try, and don’t worry about sounding good at first.
____37____ You can complete the shift through learning and practicing. Speak a phrase and start to stretch your voice. Make it a positive expression, for instance, “My voice is strong!” for the extra bonus of hearing some encouragement. As you repeat the phrase, introduce excitement into your speech. ____38____ Practice to hear how high and how low you can go. Start at the top of your range instead of the bottom because if you start at the bottom, you’ll hit that ceiling, and you won’t get past it.
The way you breathe is also crucial to finding your singing voice. As you breathe in, feel the air fill your lungs and go all the way to your stomach. This allows your breath to fill your diaphragm, a muscle between your lungs and stomach. ____39____ Then push that air out from your belly (腹部), up out through your lungs, out to an open mouth.
You may dream about sounding like your favorite artist, but your voices might just be different. So instead, work in a voice range that suits you. Once you have that awareness, you can start listening for other singers who have that same sound. Just avoid copying simply. Remember, you’re trying to find your voice. Let Beyoncé be Beyoncé. That’s their identity. ____40____
A. It is time to model after them.
B. Singing isn’t that far off from speaking.
C. And that is the source of your voice power.
D. That’ll help you more naturally slide into singing.
E. But you don’t have to be a Grammy-award winner.
F. However, a good singer demands a natural-born talent.
G. It’s important to be able to say, “What do I sound like?”

【导语】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了普通人学习唱歌的方法,包括放下心理负担、通过说话练习发声、注意呼吸方式以及找到适合自己的音域等。
【36题详解】
根据上文“When you’re comparing yourself to Whitney Houston, Ariana Grande or Beyoncé, it’s easy to feel that singing is out of reach.(当你把自己和惠特妮·休斯顿、爱莉安娜·格兰德或碧昂斯相比时,很容易觉得唱歌是遥不可及的事)”以及下文 “Singing is the only instrument that people don’t allow themselves to not be good at right away. So give yourself permission to try, and don’t worry about sounding good at first. (唱歌是唯一一种人们不允许自己无法立刻擅长的乐器。所以允许自己去尝试,不要担心一开始听起来很好。)”可知,此处需转折强调“不必成为专业歌手”。因此推断E项“但你不必成为格莱美奖得主。”符合语境,衔接上下文中的“专业歌手”与“普通人尝试”。故选E。
【37题详解】
下文“You can complete the shift through learning and practicing. Speak a phrase and start to stretch your voice. (你可以通过学习和练习完成这种转变。说一个短语,开始伸展你的声音。)”提到转变,建议通过“说话”作为练习唱歌的切入点。因此推断B项“唱歌与说话相差不远。”符合语境,直接点明段落主旨,将“唱歌”与“说话”建立关联,为后文“通过说话练习发声”的具体方法提供理论依据,符合段落核心。故选B。

【答案】Dear Mr. Daniel,
I’m writing to share some thoughts about our recent lessons. I’ve noticed that a large portion of class time is spent reviewing previous content through student questions, leaving limited time for new material.
While review is important, I feel the current approach may not be the most efficient. Many students, including myself, are already familiar with the earlier content and are eager to acquire more new knowledge. Could we possibly adjust the balance? For example, we might shorten the review session or integrate it in a more interactive way so that more time can be devoted to new topics. Alternatively, a brief weekly review session might also work.
Thank you for considering my suggestions.
Yours,
Li Hua

Officer Jonda’s pulse quickened. Road conditions were dangerous on that cold, dark winter night. The fierce storm made it hard to see, but she could tell the car ahead of her was in trouble. It was swaying. It was not swaying violently, and was still barely within the lane, but on the winding road in the fierce November rain, it was enough. Jonda had a sixth sense for accidents and lived in terror of them ever since that awful night so many years ago. She still couldn’t abolish the terrible image of that teenager screaming for help, her help. Help that she had been unable to give as she was driven back by the intense heat of the car fire. She leaned on her training for support, and these days she never ignored any signs of the next accident.
She made a gesture to turn on the patrol car’s flashing lights, but her partner, David, beat her to it; he too had sensed the danger. “Let’s pull that car over before someone gets hurt,” he said. The big car slowed, but not enough to stop at the warning sign as the driver slammed on the brakes. The car slipped off the road into the Dalton River. Jonda quickly brought the police car to a halt and got out. Yelling at David to call for backup help, she slipped down the side of the road to the water’s edge. The rain had swelled the river into a raging monster. It roared well over its banks, rushing swiftly with tree limbs caught in the raging current. And half submerged in the current was the car. As big as it was, the force of the water had heaved it against a tree, the passenger seat submerged, water rushing over the windshield.
“David, I need the window hammer!” Jonda called over her radio and rushed toward the car. By the time she was at the driver door, the water was rushing up to her waist, and unbelievably cold, like her legs had been encased in ice. If she didn’t work quickly, she could lose the feeling in her lower body and collapse.
Through the window, Jonda saw the woman with water up to her chest. A work badge pinned to her chest identified her as Sandy. She would not last long in the icy water. Her eyes, betraying her intense fear, were locked on Jonda’s.
David caught up with Jonda and passed her the window hammer. “Ma’am,” she yelled through the window, “I need you to turn away from the glass! I’m going to break through!” The woman turned her head, and Jonda struck. The glass, thick as the old car was big, barely cracked. And with a heavy heart Jonda felt the car heave. The current was loosening it from the tree.

【答案】
Jonda struck again with all her might, and this time the window broke into little pieces. Icy water immediately surged into the car. Ignoring the numbing cold, Jonda reached through the opening. Sandy, coughing and gasping, frantically grabbed her outstretched hand. David, braving the chest-deep water, threw his weight against the car door to stabilize it. “Pull! Now!” he yelled. With a combined heave, they dragged the shivering woman through the broken window just as the car was swept away, swallowed by the raging river. Jonda and David, supporting a nearly limp Sandy between them, fought their way back to the slippery bank.
Tears streaking down Jonda’s cheeks, unable to let go of the woman. They collapsed onto solid ground, safe at last. As Sandy sobbed with relief, clinging to her rescuer, the haunted memory of the teenager she couldn’t save flashed before Jonda’s eyes. But this time, it was different. This time, she felt the steady, grateful heartbeat of the woman in her arms. This time, she had won. Wrapping a thermal blanket around Sandy, Jonda finally released the ghost of that long-ago night. She had faced her deepest fear and, in pulling Sandy back from the brink, had finally pulled herself free.

A
Alexandre Dumas: The Count of Monte Cristo (《基督山伯爵》)

Culture Minister Rachida Dati told the television network TF1 that “organized crime today targets works of art, and museums have become targets.”
The last recorded theft at the Louvre occurred in 1998, when a painting was stolen in broad daylight and has not been recovered.
24. How did the thieves get into the museum?
Disgusted
C

It was his violin. As a young man, Elias had been a promising musician, his fingers dancing across the ____42____ with a passion that could move an audience to tears. But after a harsh ____43____ from a famous master, his confidence had collapsed. He had not played a single note since that day, nearly fifty years ago.
____44____, he lifted the instrument. The strings were loose and lifeless. A wave of sadness washed over him as he remembered Clara’s gentle voice, always encouraged him to play for her. “The music is in your soul, Elias, not in the opinion of one man,” she would say.
Driven by a sudden ____45____, he carefully tightened the bow and rosined (涂松香) it. His hands, now twisted with arthritis (关节炎), trembled as they ____46____ the familiar position. The first sound was a screech, painful and out of tune. He almost gave up. But then, he closed his eyes, searching for the ____47____ memory buried deep within.
