A. Buy organic food.B. Send messages to Rachel.C. Learn from Silent Spring.
A 19. B 20. C
M: I’m deeply interested in ecology, and my hero is Rachel Carson. She was the first to make people think about how our actions as humans are causing permanent damage to Earth’s ecosystems. She began as a biologist, specializing in writing about the sea, but she gradually became aware of the dangers of using pesticides like DDT and the way they can harm the whole of the food chain. In 1962, she wrote her classic book Silent Spring to explain these dangers to the general public. The title of Silent Spring refers to the fact that one day all the birds might be dead, leaving us without their beautiful springtime songs. The agricultural and chemical industries reacted negatively to the book, and said she was unprofessional. However, further research by other scientists proved that she was right about the dangers of chemicals used to kill insects. Today, there is a growing movement towards organic food production, but unfortunately the situation overall is still getting worse rather than improving. We must continue to read Rachel Carson’s book and reflect on its message.
A
Wildlife faces threats from habitat destruction, pollution, and some human activities. Although protecting wildlife may seem too hard at times, even small actions in your own neighborhood can help protect many different animals. Here are some tips on how to protect wildlife through small actions.
Create wildlife-friendly areas in your backyard
When trying to make your garden more beautiful, you can choose plants that can provide food and shelter for the native wildlife. This will also help cut down on pollution. Besides, bird or bat houses in your yard or garden can attract and shelter more species.
Avoid harming the natural ecosystem in your backyard
Some plants from other places can kill or harm the native plants that provide food and shelter for wildlife.
Have a greener lifestyle
By using less water and fewer fuels, you will do good to help protect the wildlife around you. Take buses or the subway if you can, turn off the electric devices when you’re not using them, take showers for a shorter time, and keep the temperature in your room at or below 68 Fahrenheit degrees in winter.
Buy products that are friendly to wildlife
Don’t buy products that are made from endangered animals. Keep in mind that some endangered animals are killed by traps, or hunters who are eager to earn money with them.
Donate money to organizations that protect wildlife and their habitats
You can give money to organizations or groups that protect wildlife in your neighborhood, thus promoting their work.
21. What’s the purpose of this passage?
A. To show the threats wildlife faces.
B. To raise awareness of wildlife protection.

When you think about your relationship with your parents, how would you describe it? Are you satisfied with it, or would you wish for something more? For many, the relationship with their parents is not perfect, and it may even feel distant(疏远的).
I once hoped that my parents would be my best friends—people I could talk to openly, share my thoughts with, and have meaningful discussions with. However, the reality was very different. Our relationship was often filled with shouting and misunderstandings. We hardly had calm, meaningful conversations. Instead, there were months when we didn’t talk at all because there was nothing to say.
For many years, from my teenage years to my late twenties, this was my reality. But things began to change when I decided to make an effort(努力) to improve the relationship. Now, at 30, my relationship with my parents has improved greatly. We communicate openly, without anger, and show concern for each other in a way that feels natural.
Improving the relationship with your parents takes time. It is not a quick fix. When I first started, my efforts and apology(道歉) seemed pointless. For example, when I tried to hold my mom into my arms, she pushed me away. My dad didn’t give me a love sign. But I didn’t give up. I realized that improving a relationship is not about fixing a single argument; it’s about repairing years of misunderstandings and miscommunications.
To truly improve your relationship with your parents, understand that it’s a long journey. It will not happen overnight, and you may not see results immediately. In my case, it took years of efforts. I had to show my parents that I had changed, not through words, but through actions. They slowly began to react (做出回应), but the process was slow and required patience.
So, if you’re facing problems with your parents, remember that it’s normal. Start by seeing the situation as a long journey. It may not be easy, but if you keep trying and give it time, your relationship can get better. Be patient and stick to the process.
24. What was the author’s early relationship with her parents like?
A. Terrible. B. Peaceful. C. Special. D. Close.
25. How did the author’s parents first react to her efforts?
A. They accepted them warmly. B. They paid little attention to them.
C. They were surprised and moved. D. They apologized for their misunderstandings.
26. What may the author consider most important in improving the parent-child relationship?
A. Making apologies. B. Open conversations.
C. Understanding each other. D. Long-term efforts and patience.
27. Why does the author write the text?
A. To look back on the past. B. To give thanks to her parents.
C. To offer suggestions to others. D. To describe a common social problem.
A 25. B 26. D 27. C
根据第二段的“Our relationship was often filled with shouting and misunderstandings. We hardly had calm, meaningful conversations. Instead, there were months when we didn’t talk at all because there was nothing to say.(我们的关系常常充斥着争吵和误解。我们几乎没有进行过平和且有意义的交流。相反,有好几个月我们甚至完全不说话,因为根本没有什么可说的了)”可知,作者早年与父母的关系充满争吵、误解,甚至长期不沟通,这是糟糕的。故选A。
根据第四段的“When I first started, my efforts and apology(道歉) seemed pointless. For example, when I tried to hold my mom into my arms, she pushed me away. My dad didn’t give me a love sign.(刚开始的时候,我的努力和道歉似乎都毫无意义。比如,当我试图把妈妈抱进怀里时,她却把我推开。而我的父亲也没有给我任何爱的暗示)”可知,作者最初努力改善关系时,父母对她的努力不重视。故选B。
26. 细节理解题。根据第五段的“In my case, it took years of efforts. I had to show my parents that I had changed, not through words, but through actions.(就我而言,这需要多年的努力。我必须向父母证明我已经有所改变,不是通过言语,而是通过实际行动来体现)”及最后一段“Start by seeing the situation as a long journey. It may not be easy, but if you keep trying and give it time, your relationship can get better. Be patient and stick to the process.(首先将这种状况视为一段漫长的旅程。
C
We all remember that first cry at the movies. Whether tears of joy or sadness, it’s remarkable how moving images on a screen can command our emotions. In fact, such moments are often carefully planned. But what about those heart-breaking stories made for children? They don’t seem to sugarcoat the harsh realities of the world.
Actually, many great children’s films filled with tragedy are purposefully designed to evoke strong feelings. According to Aristotle, tragedy helps us confront life’s unsolvable dilemmas through thoughtful reflection. Therefore, the presence of tragedy in kids’ movies serves to teach them how to handle, understand, and ultimately heal from pain. One of the hardest lessons for a child is learning to deal with loss, especially when it’s sudden. The classic cartoon The Lion King tells the story of Simba, who experiences the profound loss of his father. Children see themselves in Simba — a character with dreams, a desire to grow, and a longing to be part of a bigger world. Yet, witnessing his loss is truly heartbreaking.
Why, then, is a film that brings children to tears so beloved? The lesson it imparts is about overcoming suffering and moving forward. Hakuna Matata! Yes, this phrase from The Lion King teaches children that it’s okay to move on from tragic loss and not let it define them. It’s a crucial lesson learned at a very young age. Sadness should not be ignored; it’s important to feel it, which is why these films are so powerful. In Dumbo, Charlotte’s Web, and Bridge to Terabithia, we lose beloved characters. This deeply upsets young viewers, but it also teaches them to accept sadness and create something new from it.
So, what is the core message behind a sad children’s movie? It aims to teach the audience, especially children, how to gain independence and free themselves from the grip of tragedy. These stories act as a cushion, separating fiction from reality. They help children navigate sad feelings when they arise in real life, or at least find relief by embracing the spirit of Hakuna Matata.
28. Why does the author mention “first cry” in paragraph 1?
A. To promote a movie. B. To explain the reason.
C. To support an argument. D. To introduce the topic.
29. What does the underlined phrase “Hakuna Matata” in paragraph 3 mean?
A. Defining sadness as a treatment.
B. Challenging oneself with tragic losses.
C. Searching for knowledge to enrich life.
D. Heading forward without being trapped.
30. What can we learn from the last paragraph?
A. Sad kids’ movies help children to escape from reality.
B. Sad kids’ movies prepare children for life struggles.
C. Children can learn to ignore sadness in tragedy.
D. Children can find a way to hide sad feelings.
31. What is the best title for the text?
A. Why Are Great Kids’ Movies So Sad?
B. What Is the Power of Great Kids’ Movies?
C. Life’s Hardest Lesson: How Movies Encourage Us?
D. Moving Beyond Reality: What Kids’ Movies Teach Us?
D 29. D 30. B 31. D
根据第一段中的“We all remember that first cry at the movies. Whether tears of joy or sadness, it’s remarkable how moving images on a screen can command our emotions. In fact, such moments are often carefully planned. But what about those heart-breaking stories made for children? They don’t seem to sugarcoat the harsh realities of the world.(我们都记得在电影院第一次落泪的场景。无论是喜悦还是悲伤的泪水,屏幕上的动人画面能掌控我们的情绪,这很值得注意。事实上,这样的时刻往往是精心设计的。但那些为儿童制作的令人心碎的故事呢?它们似乎并没有粉饰世界的残酷现实。)”可知,作者提及“第一次落泪”是为了从大众对电影情感共鸣的普遍体验切入,进而引出本文核心话题——儿童电影中的悲伤情节。故选D项。
29. 词句猜测题。根据第三段中的“The lesson it imparts is about overcoming suffering and moving forward. Hakuna Matata! Yes, this phrase from The Lion King teaches children that it’s okay to move on from tragic loss and not let it define them.(它所传递的道理是克服苦难、继续前行。Hakuna Matata!没错,这个来自《狮子王》的短语告诉孩子们,从悲惨的失去中走出来是没问题的,不要让失去定义自己。)”可知,画线短语前提到它所传递的道理,画线短语后提到,这个道理就是《狮子王》告诉孩子们的道理,由此可推断,“Hakuna Matata”的含义与“克服苦难、继续前行,不被悲剧困住”一致。故选D项。
30. 细节理解题。根据最后一段中的“They help children navigate sad feelings when they arise in real life, or at least find relief by embracing the spirit of Hakuna Matata.(它们帮助孩子们在现实生活中出现悲伤情绪时应对这些情绪,或者至少通过接纳‘Hakuna Matata’的精神获得慰藉。)”
通读全文,尤其是最后一段中的“So, what is the core message behind a sad children’s movie? It aims to teach the audience, especially children, how to gain independence and free themselves from the grip of tragedy.(那么,悲伤的儿童电影背后的核心信息是什么?它旨在教会观众,尤其是儿童,如何获得独立,从悲剧的束缚中解脱出来。)”可知,文章围绕儿童电影中的悲伤情节展开,重点阐述其教会儿童超越悲剧、应对现实情感的意义,D项“超越现实:儿童电影教会我们什么?”最能概括全文主旨,适合作为最佳标题。故选D项。
D
If walking is part of your exercise routine, you might want to try stopping to smell the roses once in a while during your walk, a new study suggests. Researchers in Italy found short periods of walking might actually give your metabolism(新陈代谢) more of a workout than walking the same distance without a break
Francesco Luciano, the lead researcher, and his team explain that using long, continuous walking to measure energy consumption(消耗量) “greatly diminishes the metabolic(新陈代谢的) cost of brief walks.”
This is meaningful not only for people who are trying to burn off more of their energy, but also for people who might be trying to conserve(保存) it. This may also be important information for programs designed to help prevent people losing weight while still getting the benefits of exercise, like eating disorder treatment programs.
It’s important to note these findings are based on a pretty small sample(样本) size of just 10 healthy participants(参与者) — 5 male, 5 female — all around 27 years of age, so the results may not be representative(代表性) of a broader population.
For the study, each participant walked on a stair climber(楼梯机) for 10, 30, 60, 90, and 240 seconds, and in a separate experiment, walked for those same periods on a treadmill(跑步机). The research team measured how much oxygen participants used, on average, when they were at rest before the experiments, and then again after the walking. Oxygen consumption is often used to measure how much energy is being used during exercise.
“Our findings show that the time-averaged oxygen consumption and metabolic cost are greater for shorter than longer walks,” the researchers report. During 30-second walks, the participants consumed 20 ‒ 60 per cent more oxygen than the standard estimates for walking exercise, which are based on long, continuous walking.
32. What did the new study find about walking?
A. Stops during walks may increase calorie burn.
B. Long walks would bring greater metabolic cost.
C. Fast walking might be helpful for losing weight.
D. Continuous walking could treat eating disorders.
33. What does the underlined word “diminishes” in paragraph 2 probably mean?
A. Explains. B. Uncovers. C. Increases. D. Underestimates.
34. What does paragraph 3 mainly tell us about the study?
A. Its purpose. B. Its limitations. C. Its significance. D. Its participants.
35. Which of the following is true according to the passage?
A. It is better to walk without a break for people to work out.
B. The participants’ energy consumption is measured by walking speed
C. The research results are representative of all people.
D. The more energy is being used during exercise, the more oxygen is consumed.
A 33. D 34. C 35. D
根据文章第一段“Researchers in Italy found short periods of walking might actually give your metabolism(新陈代谢) more of a workout than walking the same distance without a break. (意大利研究人员发现,与不间断走完相同距离相比,短时间分段步行实际上可能更能让新陈代谢得到锻炼。)”以及第六段““Our findings show that the time-averaged oxygen consumption and metabolic cost are greater for shorter than longer walks,” the researchers report. (研究人员指出:“我们的研究结果表明,与长时间步行相比,短时间步行的时间平均耗氧量和新陈代谢消耗更高。”)”可知,研究发现短时间分段步行比不间断步行更能促进新陈代谢,而新陈代谢增强与能量消耗相关。故选A。
根据文章第一段“Researchers in Italy found short periods of walking might actually give your metabolism(新陈代谢) more of a workout than walking the same distance without a break. (意大利研究人员发现,与不间断走完相同距离相比,短时间分段步行实际上可能更能让新陈代谢得到锻炼。)”可知,短时间步行比连续步行更能提升代谢消耗;再根据划线单词所在句“Francesco Luciano, the lead researcher, and his team explain that using long, continuous walking to measure energy consumption (消耗量) “greatly diminishes the metabolic(新陈代谢的) cost of brief walks.” (该研究的首席研究员Francesco Luciano及其团队解释称,若用长时间连续步行来衡量能量消耗,会大幅diminishes短时间步行的新陈代谢消耗。)”可推测,若用连续步行的标准去衡量短时间步行的代谢消耗,会无法体现其真实的代谢优势,即“降低”或“低估”了短时间步行的代谢消耗。选项D“Underestimates”意为“低估”,与此相符。故选D。
34. 主旨大意题。根据文章第三段内容“This is meaningful not only for people who are trying to burn off more of their energy, but also for people who might be trying to conserve (保存) it. This may also be important information for programs designed to help prevent people losing weight while still getting the benefits of exercise, like eating disorder treatment programs.(这不仅对那些试图消耗更多能量的人有意义,对那些可能想要保存能量的人同样有意义。对于旨在帮助人们在享受运动益处的同时避免体重下降的项目(例如饮食失调治疗项目)而言,这或许也是重要的参考信息。)”可知,第三段先指出研究结果对想消耗更多能量的人和需保存能量的人均有意义,再提到其对饮食失调治疗项目等特定方案也有重要价值,核心是在说明这项研究的实用价值与重要性。故选C。
35. 细节理解题。根据文章第五段“Oxygen consumption is often used to measure how much energy is being used during exercise.(耗氧量通常被用作衡量运动过程中能量消耗多少的指标。)”

What’s the price of a family meal? For many families in the world’s richest countries, the answer seems to be “too much”. For instance, in the United States, 56 is often a trendsetter in such things, the majority of families report eating a single meal together fewer than five days a week. In fact, the frequency of family meals has decreased in American families 57 33 percent over the last twenty years. The meals 58 (them) have shortened too: from an average of 90 minutes to just 12 minutes.
So perhaps we are better off asking ourselves what the cost of not eating together 59 (be). Once again, we could turn to the figures. The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development has found that 15-year-olds who reported not regularly sharing family meals were twice as likely 60 (drop) out of school. In Europe, research has suggested that children who don’t eat dinner with their parents at least twice a week face a 40 percent 61 (high) risk of obesity.
But those numbers, 62 impressive, may be beside the point. After all, having a meal together is more than just 63 preventive measure against future misfortune. The primary cost of the family meal is also the very thing that makes it important: time.
The time spent together over food leads to all the positive outcomes 64 are measured in the studies. So, we might arrange for the family mealtime to act as an occasion full of 65 (share) memories and feelings and ambitions.
56. which 57. by 58. themselves 59. is 60. to drop
61. higher 62. though/although 63. a 64. that/which 65. Shared
故填which。
故填by。
故填is。
固定短语be likely to do something意思是“很有可能会做某事”,drop应使用动词不定式形式。故填to drop。
主句部分those numbers may be beside the point.与impressive转折关系,可填though或although引导让步状语从句,省略了主语和be,补全后应是though/although they are impressive。故填though/although。
故填a。
故填that/which。

Dear Chris,
I’m more than delighted to learn that you show great interest in Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival. Now I’m writing to tell you something about it in detail.
The Mid-Autumn Festival falls on the fifteenth day of the eighth month of our Chinese lunar calendar. As one of the traditional Chinese festivals, it has been enjoying great popularity for celebration of family reunion.
Usually, no matter how far away or how busy we are, we will try to come back home for the festival. What we love most is the time when we enjoy the full moon together. With the beautiful moon up in the sky, we sit together and eat mooncakes and fruit, sharing our stories. In addition to these traditional activities, we have a wider range of choices such as travelling and visiting our relatives and friends.
I’m looking forward to your arrival and joining me in experiencing it together.
Yours,
Li Hua

Mo was waiting in the corridor outside her class. She was feeling sick. She had two exams that day and physics was first. She really hated physics. It was her worst subject. Terry looked back at her from the front of the line, and then looked away quickly. Mo thought she looked guilty. She didn’t have a problem with physics; she didn’t have a problem with anything... Miss Perfect!
“Hi, Mo, it’s your favourite exam today,” said Nina, laughing as she joined the line. Terry was looking at Mo again. “So what’s wrong with her?” asked Nina. “I thought you were friends.” “Yes, so did I,” said Mo. “But she hasn’t spoken to me for two weeks now. She promised to help me review for the physics exam too, but then she’s ignored all my calls and texts. And when I rang her house, her mum just told me she was busy.” said Mo angrily. At that time, Mr Reed asked all the students into the exam room.
Mo couldn’t answer question number five. She looked up and saw Terry sitting two rows in front of her. Mo couldn’t believe it! Terry was holding her phone on her knees under the table and reading from it. Is that how Terry always got such good grades? She felt really angry at Terry, but she didn’t know what to do. She thought about telling the teacher, but what would everyone else think of her? “Stop writing and put your pens down.” said Mr Reed as he started to collect the exam papers.
Mo wanted to talk to Terry at lunch time, but she couldn’t find her anywhere. The next exam was history. That was Mo’s favourite subject but she wasn’t feeling good. Mo went to the library to study, but she couldn’t concentrate. “It wasn’t fair!” she thought. “Terry was getting good grades by cheating all that time,” thought Mo. Just then, Mr Reed walked past her table. “Mr Reed.”
Mo was sitting behind Terry again in the history exam that afternoon. Mo was feeling terrible. Why had she told Mr Reed? But it was too late now. And anyway, Terry didn’t want to be her friend! Mr Reed wanted her to look at her and nod if she saw that Terry was cheating in the exam.
注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
She was working on the last question when she saw that Terry have her phone under the table.

She was working on the last question when she saw that Terry have her phone under the table. Mo looked up and nodded to Mr. Reed. Terry was too busy looking at her phone and she didn’t hear him as he walked silently up to her table. Mr Reed didn’t say anything. He just picked up her exam paper, and told Terry to leave the room. Terry was crying as she walked to the door. Everyone was staring at her and Mo felt really guilty now.
Mo was walking towards the school gate, when she saw Terry. “Mo, I want to talk to you.” Mo could see that Terry had been crying, her face was pale and her eyes were red. Mo couldn’t say a word. “Listen,” said Terry. “I’m really sorry I haven’t answered any of your calls, but we’re having a terrible time at home. My dad had a heart attack two weeks ago and he’s in hospital. He had a big heart operation today and I was very worried about him. I was reading texts from my mum to see how the operation was going. I’m sorry I didn’t tell you what was happening. I haven’t forgotten that you’re a good friend. Will you forgive me?”

During 30-second walks, the participants consumed 20-60 per cent more oxygen than the standard estimates for walking exercise, which are based on long, continuous walking.

注意:1.续写词数应为150左右;
She was working on the last question when she saw that Terry have her phone under the table.

We all remember that first cry at the movies. Whether tears of joy or sadness, it’s remarkable how moving images on a screen can command our emotions.

A. To promote a movie. B. To explain the reason.

She was working on the last question when she saw that Terry have her phone under the table.

Dear Chris,
I’m more than delighted to learn that you show great interest in Chinese Mid-Autumn Festival.
Yours,
Li Hua

SHE was the first to make people think about how our actions as humans are causing permanent damage to earth ecosystems. SHE began as a biologist specializing and writing about the sea, but he gradually became aware of the dangers of using pesticides like ddt and the way they can harm the whole of the food chain. In one thousand nine sixty two, SHE wrote her classic book silent spring to explain these dangers to the general public. The title of silent spring refers to the fact that one day all the birds might be dead, leaving us without their beautiful springtime songs. The agricultural and chemical industries reacted negatively to the book and said he was unprofessional. However, further researched by other scientists proved that he was right about the dangers of chemicals used to kill insects. Today, there is a growing movement towards organic food production, but unfortunately the situation overall is still getting worse rather than improving. We must continue to read Rachel carsons book and reflect on its message.
