第一节(满分15分)
Dear David,
I’m glad to hear you want to start a club about Chinese traditional culture. I suggest the Chinese Knot Club.
Chinese knots are not only beautiful handicrafts but also carry rich cultural meanings. They symbolize good luck, happiness and unity in Chinese culture. You can easily find materials like colored ropes, and it’s relatively easy to learn the basic knot-tying techniques. Through making Chinese knots, students can experience the charm of traditional handicrafts and understand more about Chinese culture.
I believe it will be a great club.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节(满分25分)
With my camera in hand, I began to gain some confidence. Summoning up my courage, I took the initiative to ask several drama club members whether I could take some pictures for them. Reluctant as they were, they ultimately nodded, pretending to perform an opera. Moves and gestures, which I believed wouldn’t fail to gratify them, were captured from different angles. No sooner had they browsed the pictures than they were dumbfounded by my aptitude for framing a shot. Days later, the notice came that the photography competition was scheduled to be held. Without the slightest hesitation, I picked out my favorite work in my camera, submitting it to the organizer, followed by my name topping on the award list.
The photography competition gave me more than an honor. Undoubtedly, a sense of accomplishment and a feeling of happiness temporarily overwhelmed me, as I managed to prove to my parents that I outperformed Lily in photography. Most importantly, however, other competitors’ works caught my attention, all of which showcased unique characteristics my work didn’t possess. It was not until then that I cast no doubt on the existence of everyone’s strengths and values. In other words, exposing your advantages to others was merely a matter of time. Now, gone are the days when I poured much time into blind imitation, but it is what I have to go through toward a self-discovery journey.

Steve Wells is a British man who loves looking at trees. He spends most of his weekends doing so, plus evenings sometimes, alongside his day job. “I like giving my time to something worthwhile,” he says. “If I can help to protect our beautiful trees and woodlands, then I have spent my time well.”
In spring 2024, Steve joined Observatree, which is a non-profit project between several organisations and charities. It is run with 200 volunteers who have been trained to recognise new diseases and pest threats to UK trees.
He visits trees, whether individually in woodlands or in parks, to look for symptoms (症状) affecting their health. Also, he keeps reports on his findings and hands them in to the Woodland Trust where the information is added to a database for the use of professional researchers. “One of the good things about this project is that it is really flexible,” he explains. “The minimum contribution required is 12 surveys a year but it is easily achievable. Last year, I actually handed in 40 reports.”
Sometimes his work involves more than just looking at trees, with reports followed up with the collection of samples (样本), which are sent to Forest Research for testing. “There are 22 main pests and diseases that need special attention, including ash dieback, sweet chestnut blight and the oak processionary moth,” explains Steve.
The Woodland Trust recently asked him to become a lead volunteer to help and support other volunteers, and he is excited about what his second year of surveying (勘查) will bring. “If the trees could talk, I imagine the stories they could tell me about what has happened around them over the years. I really like surveying at places of historic interest for that reason, where some of the trees have been around for hundreds of years,” says Steve.
24.What makes Steve Wells think his time is “well-spent”?
A.He learns about tree-planting skills.
B.He helps protect trees and woodlands.
C.He earns extra money from volunteering.
D.He gets a chance to travel to different parks.
25.What extra work does Steve Wells sometimes do besides looking at trees?
A.Selling tree samples to Forest Research.
B.Managing the Woodland Trust’s database.
C.Providing follow-up reports and tree samples.
D.Teaching local people how to prevent tree diseases.
26.Why does Steve like surveying trees at historic sites?
A.Better working conditions.
B.Need for site protection.
C.More rewards for surveying.
D.Curiosity about old trees’ stories.
27.Which of the following words can best describe Steve Wells?
A.Determined and brave. B.Talented and patient.
C.Warm-hearted and devoted. D.Hard-working and traditional.
【答案】24.B 25.C 26.D 27.C
【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了英国人Steve Wells参与护树志愿项目,投身树木病虫害监测的事迹。
24.细节理解题。根据第一段中的“If I can help to protect our beautiful trees and woodlands, then I have spent my time well.(如果我能帮忙保护我们美丽的树木和林地,那么我的时间就没有白费)”可知,Steve认为自己的时间“得值”的原因是能助力保护树木和林地。故选B项。

As an important part of our everyday lives, music is increasingly being used in medical treatment. Besides proving very useful in cancer treatment, managing long-term pain and even helping the brain recover after a stroke, researchers have been making great progress in using music to help patients with dementia (失智症). It reduces patients’ anxiety or stress, lifts their spirits, and improves their performance at work.
So why does music appear to have such a powerful effect on people with dementia? About ten years ago, researchers discovered that when people listened to music, many areas of the brain took part in processing it. Research has also shown that music might help the brain and its connections grow strong again. It is believed that music could help people with dementia by fixing or strengthening damaged neural connections and cells.
It’s not just any music that has a great effect on the brain, though. Familiar and favourite music has been shown to have the biggest influence on the way we feel and is closely connected with memory and emotions. This is because listening to our favourite songs helps to produce feel-good hormones (荷尔蒙) that give us a sense of pleasure. During and after listening to favourite music, people with dementia experienced less pain and anxiety, and their general feelings improved.
Other researchers have even begun testing the effects of music training programs to support cognition for people with dementia. Results have been promising so far, with adults in the study showing improved conditions, compared to those who took part in just physical exercise.
So, music is likely to continue to be a useful medical treatment for people with dementia. But based on what we know so far, it’s important that it comes from the patient’s own music collection and is used together with other medical therapies such as taking medicine.
28.How does the author introduce the topic of the passage?
A.By presenting facts. B.By raising questions.
C.By explaining reasons. D.By giving predictions.
29.What can drive music’s positive effects on dementia?
A.The style of the music. B.The volume of the music.
C.The length of the music. D.The familiarity with the music.
30.What can we learn about music treatment from the last two paragraphs?
A.It can cure dementia completely.
B.It works best with unfamiliar music.
C.It must be combined with other treatments.
D.It absolutely outperforms physical exercise.
31.Where is the text most probably taken from?
A.A course plan. B.An art brochure.
C.A medical textbook. D.A science magazine.

You have two basic types of memory: short-term memory and long-term memory. Things you see or hear first enter your short-term memory. Very little of this information passes on into your long-term memory. Does this mean you have a bad memory? Not at all.
Your short-term memory has a certain job. Its job is to store information for a few seconds only. Your short-term memory is at work when you look up a phone number, call the number, and then forget it. You remembered the number just long enough to use it. Then it disappeared from your memory. That’s really a good thing. Imagine if your memory held every number, every face, and every word you ever knew!
However, some information is important to remember for a longer time. Then it must pass from short-term to long-term memory. Sometimes we tell ourselves to remember something. We might also practice it: “OK, don’t forget: 555-1212, 555-1212.” Usually, we don’t even think about it. Our brain makes the decision for us. It decides to store the information or let it go.
The brain seems to make the decision by asking two questions:
Does the information affect our emotions? That is, does it make us happy, sad, excited, or upset?
Does the information concern something we already know, so our brain can store it with something already there?
An answer of “Yes” means that the new information enters long-term memory. That means the brain creates new connections among brain cells.
Information disappears when connections among brain cells become weak. They get weak if time passes and the connections are not used. That’s why it is good to read your lecture notes soon after the class. To keep the memory of something strong, think of it often. For example, look at those lecture notes the next day. Look at them the day after that, too. Every time you think about something, the connections in the brain get stronger. Then it is easier to remember the information when you need it.
32.When is your short-term memory at work?
A.You read English words every morning.
B.What you’ve learned is reviewed after class.
C.The impression of a stranger soon disappears after you meet with him/ her.
D.You look up an important phone number and repeat it again and again.
33.What information enters long-term memory according to the passage?
A.Information affecting our emotions.
B.Information creating brain cells.
C.Information reaching you first.
D.Information concerning something unfamiliar.
34.How can we keep the long-term memory of lecture notes strong?
A.By looking at them after months. B.By referring to them regularly.
C.By putting them away after class. D.By remembering them for a long time for only once.
35.Where is the passage probably taken from?
A.A science fiction. B.A news story. C.A book review. D.A popular magazine.
【答案】32.C 33.A 34.B 35.D
【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章探讨了人的记忆:短期记忆和长期记忆。
32.推理判断题。根据第二段的“Your short-term memory has a certain job. Its job is to store information for a few seconds only. (你的短期记忆有一定的作用。它的工作是存储信息,只有几秒钟)”可知,短期记忆仅储存几秒钟的信息。由此推知,与陌生人见面后,你对他/她的印象很快就会消失,属于短期记忆起作用。故选C。
33.推理判断题。根据4到7段内容“The brain seems to make the decision by asking two questions: Does the information affect our emotions? That is, does it make us happy, sad, excited, or upset? Does the information concern something we already know, so our brain can store it with something already there? An answer of “Yes” means that the new information enters long-term memory. That means the brain creates new connections among brain cells.(大脑似乎通过问两个问题来做决:“这些信息会影响我们的情绪吗?也就是说,它会让我们快乐、悲伤、兴奋还是不安?这些信息是否与我们已经知道的东西有关,所以我们的大脑可以将它与已经存在的东西存储起来?回答“是”意味着新信息进入了长期记忆。这意味着大脑在脑细胞之间建立了新的连接)”可推知,影响我们情绪的信息会进入长期记忆。故选A。
34.细节理解题。根据最后一段的“To keep the memory of something strong, think of it often. For example, look at those lecture notes the next day. Look at them the day after that, too. Every time you think about something, the connections in the brain get stronger. Then it is easier to remember the information when you need it.(要保持对某件事的记忆牢固,就要经常想起它。例如,第二天看一下那些课堂笔记。再过一天再看看他们。每当你思考某事时,大脑中的联系就会变得更强。这样当你需要的时候就更容易记住信息了)”可知,通过不断地查阅可以牢固地记住课堂笔记。故选B。
35.推理判断题。根据第一段的“You have two basic types of memory: short-term memory and long-term memory. Things you see or hear first enter your short-term memory. Very little of this information passes on into your long-term memory.(人的记忆有两种基本类型:短期记忆和长期记忆。你看到或听到的东西首先进入你的短期记忆。这些信息只有很少一部分会传递到你的长期记忆中)”以及下文内容可知,本文就人的记忆:短期记忆和长期记忆进行了探讨。由此推知,最有可能出现在受欢迎的杂志里,不可能是科幻小说,新闻故事和书评。故选D。

The act of making and being a friend is as simple as it is difficult. Here are a few tips to help you make new friends as well as to take better care of the friendships you already have.
Accept the awkwardness. It’s a little bit awkward to reach out to someone you don’t know well — whether that’s sending the first text messages or starting small talk in the elevator. 36 Otherwise you can’t make any new friends.
37 Actually this advice is based on a well-known theory and some field research. Gallian Sandstorm, a senior lecturer in psychology at the university of Essex in the UK, has done research on something called the “liking gap”, which says that the little voice in your head telling you that somebody doesn’t like you very much is wrong. 38 Instead, remember that when you talk to someone else, you are actually brightening their day.
Invest in activities that you love. Ask anyone about how to make friends and they will most likely tell you to try a new hobby. It might sound empty, but it works. 39 Then people will be drawn to you because you will be in the right place.
Be present. The planet is warming, and there is so much good television out there to watch. We get it. But if you want to keep your friendships, you have to show up for them. 40
A.So don’t listen to it.
B.But you have to accept it.
C.Do the things you are crazy about.
D.You don’t have to be interested in just one thing.
E.You have to listen and notice things about your friend.
F.Remember that people will like you more than you think they will.
G.We have a few tips for being present and engaged with your friends.

【答案】Dear David,
I’m glad to hear you want to start a club about Chinese traditional culture.
Yours,
Li Hua

67. 阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
A Journey of Self-discovery
Since childhood, I had always been overshadowed by my elder sister, Lily, who was the epitome (缩影) of perfection in the eyes of our parents and everyone around us. She was an outstanding student, consistently topping her class in every subject. She was also a gifted pianist, her fingers dancing gracefully over the keys, creating the most beautiful melodies that could move people to tears. In contrast, I was just an ordinary kid. My grades were plain, and I had no particular talent that could make me stand out.
Our parents, especially my mother, always compared me to Lily. This constant comparison made me feel less confident and inadequate. So, I forced myself to study for long hours, even when I was exhausted. I also took piano lessons, but my clumsy fingers could never produce the same magic as Lily’s.
In high school, I joined the drama club, thinking that it might be a way to shine. I was so eager to prove myself that I took on every role that came my way, regardless of whether it suited me or not. I tried to parrot the acting styles of famous actors, but my performances always seemed forced and unnatural. The other club members started to give me strange looks, and I could sense their disappointment. I started to question myself: Why was I trying so hard to be someone I wasn’t?
One day, while helping out in the school library, I accidentally discovered a book on photography. As I flipped through the pages, I was fascinated with the charming images. That night, I started to imagine myself behind the camera, capturing the beauty of the world around me. The next day, I used my savings to buy a second-hand camera. I began to explore the school campus, taking pictures of the old buildings, the blooming flowers, and the smiling faces of my classmates. I found I could photograph in a way that made the ordinary look extraordinary.
注意:
(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;
(2) 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
With my camera in hand, I began to gain some confidence.

The photography competition gave me more than an honor.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】

D
第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)
阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。

第二节(满分25分)

(1) 续写词数应为150个左右;
