Passage 1
Summer vacation has begun for many of us, and chances are your kids are spending their free time in front of a screen instead of enjoying the nice weather. We won’t repeat the warnings about children and screen time here, but we admit it: Pulling them away from video games can be tricky, as they’re so addicted. 1
Many botanical gardens and nature preserves offer programs tailored for children and families. These include yoga classes, treasure hunts, and flashlight evening walks. If no classes or activities are available, try encouraging your kids to feel the grass under their feet or notice the butterflies and insects that call the grounds their home. 2 When you get home, have them search for any similar ones in your backyard.
Sidewalk chalk, such as drawing butterflies on the pavement (人行道) , is an old but reliable standby that can fire up your child’s imagination. Nevertheless, it can quickly become tiresome for your kids. 3 You could start a tic-tac-toe game using sticks and rocks or go on a hike and give each other points for each animal or tree they see.
4 However, sometimes your kid isn’t into it — or is too little to hike any real distance. In that case, let them be the leader and decide your family’s direction. 5 It gives them a sense of ownership and responsibility to the activity and engages them a lot more.
A.To develop a sense of curiosity in children counts.
B.A walk in the woods can be great for the whole family.
C.Have some ideas ready on the fly to keep them occupied.
D.However, sunshine and exercise might change their attitude.
E.That’s one of the masterpieces you can transform nature into.
F.You are not necessarily reaching the destination you want to reach.
G.Let them appreciate the different flowers and ask about their favorites.
Passage 2
I hated writing growing up. But I couldn’t avoid it: learning English was a must in high school. For hours, I stared at blank pages, trying to turn my disorganized thoughts into fluent sentences. I tried my best but my teachers would return my papers littered with red. I was upset to no end. 1 . And that was OK. I didn’t have to do well in everything.
2 . I liked it because objective truth could be found if I searched properly. In college, I joined a research lab to enhance conductor efficiency, and after a year of hard work, we developed a design that halved energy losses. However, the joy was short-lived as I had to write a research paper about our findings.
I knew that if I wanted to become an academic, I would need to spend time writing papers. But with my awful track record with writing, I was scared of failing. In a panic, I asked a graduate student in my lab for help. We defined a goal for the paper, and I carefully wrote an outline. But when I asked him for feedback, I soon found the paper covered in red marks. 3 .
Before I could give up in defeat, though, the graduate student explained those red marks didn’t mean I was a bad writer. 4 . It requires revising your work, often several times. I kept improving the outline of my paper, eventually turning it into sentences and paragraphs. My initial draft wasn’t perfect. I had buried a few key takeaways, and the introduction was missing important context. But with help, I finally made it.
From then on, writing became one of my favorite parts of research. 5 , but I changed my view. All it took was some trial and error.
A.“Not again,” I screamed inside
B.I should view it in a positive way
C.Maybe I wasn’t good at writing
D.Writing isn’t a one-and-done thing
E.I soon realized writing was my strength
F.I switched to the world of math and science
G.I had never imagined it in my wildest dreams
Passage 3
You probably say “thank you” often, such as when a friend holds the door, a teacher stays after class to help you with a problem, or a grandparent sends a gift for your birthday. Showing gratitude makes others feel good but it also helps you feel more joyful and less sad or stressed. It is also something you can practice year-round.
1 Take a few minutes to think about what you’re grateful for. Is it someone or something that makes you happy or makes you laugh? Is it someone you know — like a parent, teacher or coach who helps support you, even when you don’t ask? Is it something that makes your life better? 2 It can also be something you have that you realize others may not have.
Try getting into the routine of noticing the things you’re grateful for while you’re going about your day. 3 You could also write what you’re grateful for on colorful scraps of paper and save them in a jar. Whenever you need a mood boost, you can take them out to remind yourself of what makes you feel happy and thankful.
4 At the table, you can suggest that each person take a turn to share at least one thing they feel thankful for. You can also discuss taking a meditative “gratitude walk” between dinner and dessert, to appreciate the company of the people in your life and the natural beauty of the outdoors.
Giving your time to others helps them. 5 For example, if you sweep the leaves or remove snow for an elderly neighbor you can take a moment to feel thankful that you were able to make their day easier. If you help a sibling with their homework, you can feel good about sharing your knowledge.
A.But it can also benefit you as well.
B.It helps you feel hopeful and positive.
C.You can carry out a “gratitude search”.
D.You can make a quick note or write them on sticky notes.
E.You could write a note of thanks to your family members.
F.Maybe it’s an activity or a hobby you enjoy doing with others.
G.Dinnertime is a perfect time to exchange feelings of gratitude with family.
Passage 4
We all know the usual tips for shopping smart during the festive season— make a list, budget well, and haggle like your life depends on it. 1 . If you really want to unlock shopping greatness this season, you need the secrets that most people haven’t even thought about. Check them out:
Use the “Eavesdrop Method” to save big
Stand near other customers who are already negotiating. Listen carefully to the prices they’re being offered. By the time it’s your turn, you’ll know the vendors’ limits and can negotiate better without the guesswork. 2 . They’ll feel pressured to match it or risk losing face.
3
In big stores or markets, vendors often store discounted items at the back or in less visible corners. That’s where you’ll find those deals that others miss. So that beautiful Ankara fabric you thought was out of your budget? It’s probably folded in the vendors’ “abandoned” pile because nobody noticed it. Check again.
Buy before market day ends
Here’s the psychology: when sellers are packing up for the day, they’re tired, and their guard is down. They just want to go home and might offer better deals to avoid hauling their goods back. 4 .
Use the “Silent Stare” technique
5 . Instead, pause, stare at them with a mix of disbelief and amusement, and wait for them to talk again. Nine times out of ten, they’ll start lowering the price to justify it. Nobody likes awkward silences, and vendors will fill the gap by negotiating down.
A.But those are just the basics
B.Build a relationship with specific vendors
C.Check the “hidden corners” for discounts
D.You can casually mention you overheard the lower price
E.When a vendor quotes a ridiculous price, don’t argue immediately
F.This works best for perishable goods like vegetables, fruits, or even meat
G.Vendors appreciate higher sales volumes and might cut you a deal to clear stock
Passage 5
During your teenage years, your body goes through many changes, and you may or may not like how your body develops. You start forming an image of your body. 1
You can develop either a positive or negative body image, depending on your mindset.
One of the major contributors of a negative body image is peer pressure. Even if you do not think you are being bullied by your group of friends, you may be laughed at casually about your appearance or you may simply notice that they seem more “perfect” than you. This can have a negative impact on your body image. 2 Often, an ideal body type is promoted heavily on social networks. Culture may also have a negative impact on one’s body image. If your culture values a particular body image, then that would make you unhappy if you don’t match it.
A negative body image increases the risk of unhealthy behaviors like extreme dieting, overeating, over exercising, isolation, and risky surgeries. It also lowers life satisfaction and can lead to unhappiness. 3
To have a more positive body image, first accept that we are all unique individuals. Imagine if everyone looked the same, the world would be a boring place. 4 Beauty standards keep changing all the time. What’s more, models and celebrities you see in the media may look “perfect” for the era, but, in fact, much of it is due to makeup, angles and lighting and Photoshop!
5 Avoid commenting on others’ looks, and you will stop criticizing yourself too. If you have peers who constantly comment about your appearance, it might be time to re-evaluate the company you keep.
Remember, your body image is simply YOUR perception (感知) of your body. This means YOU have the power to change this, even if you do not have the ability to change the perception of others.
A.Your body image is influenced by many factors.
B.Another major factor is what is shown in the media.
C.It is simply how you see, think and feel about yourself.
D.More importantly, there is no such thing as a perfect body.
E.In general, the key to a positive body image is self-acceptance.
F.Also, instead of focusing on appearances, learn to value people for who they really are.
G.Over focusing on appearance can stop you from appreciating your other positive qualities.
Passage 6
How Body Language Can Help Your Career
Many businessmen often underestimate the importance of nonverbal communication — which is often half the message. 1 Imagine how much more effective your next meeting with your boss could be if only you give your nonverbal communication a little attention. These four tips can help you avoid that common mistake so you can use your body language to gain an advantage in your career.
Triple Nod to Show You’re Engaged
2 One way you can do this non-verbally is to use the triple head nod. Three quick, small nods in a row is the nonverbal sign for “tell me more” or “I hear you, explain.” It is a great way to show that you are interested and involved.
Don’t Underestimate the Power of the Hands
Our hands speak volumes about who we are. Our brain pays attention to hands more than any other body part because we have evolved to look at them as a safety tool to make sure people won’t attack us. Whenever you have meetings, keep your hands above the table. 3
Stop Using Nervous Behaviors
Learn to stop displaying nervous body language so you don’t risk appearing anxious or incompetent. The most common behaviors are: wringing hands, rubbing arms, biting lips. 4
Ask a friend to tell you if they notice you’re displaying any of the above behaviors. Once you know what they are, you can take actions to stop them.
Mirror Other People
Professionals who mirror clients’ body language are more successful than those who don’t. If you’re a fast-talker, slowing down your speech to match the person you’re talking to helps put you on the same level. 5 Copying someone’s closed off body language or negative tone will only increase the tension between you.
A.Of course, only follow positive behaviors.
B.Hold your body in a similar way as they do.
C.Show you are interested in the people you speak with.
D.Focus on keeping your body there unless you need to use it.
E.You’ll be able to use the crucial tool for delivering messages.
F.Sometimes it can be hard to identify what your signs of anxiety are.
G.Most people plan what they will say, but they ignore their body language.
Passage 7
Even if you don’t think of yourself as artsy or creative, diving into arts and crafts could bring joy and happiness into your life. Whether it’s painting, crafting or doing a DIY project, these activities are a great way to increase your happiness. 1
Interestingly, the study showed that it doesn’t depend on a person’s age, gender, socioeconomic status or background. Doing arts and crafts actually suits everyone! You would think that a person’s wealth would play a bigger role on his or her happiness. 2 Arts and crafts win the prize, and can have a bigger impact on your mood and life.
Arts and crafts are constructive activities that transform ideas into concrete results. Whether finishing a drawing, making a vase, or baking a decorated cake, the process of bringing something from nothing gives you a sense of satisfaction, a much needed human emotion and feeling. 3
Engaging with art generates a “flow state”, a mental state of complete focus where time seems to fade, and worries or stress disappear. 4 The act of focusing on a creative task provides a break from overthinking, allowing the mind to rest in a state of productive calm.
5 From making pottery (陶艺) with your own hands, which requires you to get down and dirty, to coloring with markers in a coloring book while listening to relaxing music, go ahead and pick one from so many options. You’ll be happy you did!
A.But this is not the case.
B.It is logical if you think about it.
C.Why are there so many natural artists?
D.This state creates a sense of absorption.
E.Who won’t feel proud of their own creation?
F.There are lots of types of arts and crafts suiting you.
G.A study published in Frontiers recently confirmed it.
Passage 1
Social media can be handy for staying connected to family and friends in modern times. When engaged with mindfully, these platforms can help us tend to our interpersonal needs. Much of our social media use, however, happens without thought or reflection. 1 But some intentional actions can ensure healthier relationships and better mental health.
Searching for a “feelings wheel” online to learn about different emotions is a wise choice. Notice those feelings that you are comfortable with as well as those with which you are less familiar. Become curious about the full range of your feelings and begin to identify them throughout your day. 2 Deep breathing, talking with a friend, and meditation are all good options.
3 To bring yourself to the present moment, wait 30 seconds first every time you open an app. Put your phone down, close your eyes, and do a quick scan to see how you’re feeling. This “HALT” technique, borrowed from the 12-step movement, is particularly helpful.
Another action we need to take is to develop “soft” social communication skills. Work to interact with people face-to-face regularly. 4 It might also include making a phone call for every six texts you send. Every bit of practice helps us deepen our interpersonal webs.
Beyond individual efforts, we can also find safe and reasonable ways to engage with others in shared physical spaces. Community centers, libraries, places of worship, and volunteer work put us in the way of like-minded others with whom we can interact. Commit to practicing being in these spaces, even when it’s difficult and feels ineffective. 5
A.The act of showing up will pay off over time.
B.Replace some digital actions with real-life ones.
C.Always choose offline activities over online chats.
D.This makes it easier to develop habits that could harm relationships.
E.This can include purchasing coffee in person rather than ordering online
F.Too often, we turn to social media to distract ourselves from where we are.
G.For emotions difficult to work with, try helpful actions to help you get through.
Passage 2
When you log into social media, does an algorithm (算法) govern your feed? When shopping online, do you often focus on top-listed, AI-suggested items? If you answer “Yes”, most of the time, you go along with what the algorithm recommends. 1 As the name suggests, the term refers to our growing tendency to outsource decisions to systems designed to predict and control our behavior.
Now, there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with accepting algorithmic suggestions. 2 But like water slowly carving stone, repeated reliance on AI recommendations can weaken our capacity for independent judgement and even our sense of self. Over time, such reliance not only affects the quality of our choices but also undermines our ability to trust our own judgements.
3 It is the capacity to make intentional choices and take purposeful action. Exercising it requires that we actively shape ourselves through thoughtful choices, rather than being passively shaped by algorithms, social norms, or external pressures.
To achieve this, practicing intentional pauses proves workable. That is, before accepting a recommendation, pause and ask, “Would I have made this choice on my own?” 4 For example, when you’re on YouTube, autoplay goes to another video. Instead of watching mindlessly, you pause and realize you’re not truly interested. You close the app and go for a walk instead, following your inner voice over automation.
To be human is to choose. It is to exercise the human capacity for intentional action, the ability we have been given to be the authors of our own lives. As AI becomes more integrated in our lives, we must actively preserve our decision-making capacities. 5
A.That is how we remain human.
B.So, it’s time to reclaim human agency.
C.In many cases they save us considerable time.
D.The aim of this question is to stay open to algorithm.
E.This short reflection brings awareness to your decisions.
F.Psychologists term this common practice “algorithmic dependence”.
G.An algorithm is a set of defined rules you follow to get a specific result.
Passage 3
I’ve always disliked getting up in winter. As a child, I would drag myself out of bed, my eyes half-closed, and watch my school uniform warming on the radiator. 1 It’s too dark, and I am always half-asleep.
2 Most of them are fun, but few really change my life in the long run. Sunrise alarm clocks, however, are different. They’ve become a fundamental part of my morning routine. My top picks, the Lumie Bodyclock Spark 100 and Philips SmartSleep, have greatly benefited me. I’m waking up every day feeling more energetic and mentally sharper.
Essentially, sunrise alarm clocks are a combination of alarm clock and light treatment device that shines with increasing brightness as your wake-up time approaches. The light interacts with our natural sleep-wake cycle, much as the sun does when it rises. 3
Sunrise alarm clocks also promote healthier sleep habits. In our tech-driven world, waking up often means immediately checking our phones. An important strength of sunrise alarm clocks is that your morning wake-up no longer involves your phone. Stopping a smartphone alarm means your day begins with eyes on-screen. 4 But with these clocks, you can start the day with a clearer mind and more concentration.
Sleep is personal, and no single device fits everyone. But for me, sunrise alarm clocks have been a game-changer. They’re affordable, with quality models available for under £30. 5 After all, some morning people are made, not born.
A.They prove to fall into this unique category.
B.Interested in tech, I often test fascinating devices.
C.Therefore, we wake up biologically prepared for the day.
D.The path to endless screen time is just a fingerprint away.
E.These days, I set multiple alarms to ensure I’m woken up.
F.If you are struggling with dark mornings, it’s worth a shot.
G.All of the sunrise alarm clocks I’ve tested have their strengths.
Passage 4
How to Turn a Bike Ride Into a Bike Workout
There’s no better way to take in a perfect spring day than from a bike. The songbirds are back, the flowers are blooming and your dusty 10-speed bike is looking for a rider. 1 It can also prepare you for higher-impact sports like running or tennis.
Whether you’ re pulling an old bike out of the garage or buying a new one, your first trip should be to your local bike shop for sizing. 2 A more involved option is called a bike fitting, and the service can include body measurements, flexibility analysis and more.
The first step in leveling up your bike ride is to focus on pedaling. You’re after a smooth pedal stroke, so begin in easy gears (挡) and aim to turn your pedals quickly. Professional cyclists prefer clipless pedals (卡式踏板) and the special shoes that attach to them, which let you transfer power more effectively, especially upward. 3
Start by riding for about 20 minutes, three times a week, targeting for a nice, consistent pace. Ride at a comfortable speed that will not wear out all your strength. 4 From there, extend the time you’ re biking for one of your weekly rides, ideally by about 10 minutes each time.
5 But you should keep these works in your routine. As with any activity, remember to start low and slow, but also, don’t get discouraged. Cycling is a great form of exercise, and it’s also absolutely fun.
A.After this, you will be a fairly fit cyclist.
B.But they can be challenging to beginning riders.
C.E-bikes are another option if you want to speed up.
D.We seek the gold standard for people getting a bike workout.
E.Most stores will make free adjustments to a bike they’ve sold.
F.However, cycling can be more than a way to pass a pleasant afternoon.
G.That means breathing at a rate that would still allow you to hold a conversation.
Passage 1
Finding a bird scared after striking a window can be a surprising and heartbreaking experience. 1
Observe the bird
The advice is that any bird that has collided with a window should be seen by a rehabber (康复师). Most window-collision birds will have some degree of eye injury. 2 Even if they can fly away and do not look injured, some 70% of birds that have collided with glass will not recover themselves if they are not treated.
Get a bird to a rehabber
Approach the bird slowly from behind and gently capture it in your hands, with a bag prepared nearby. Some birds will be so surprised that they won’t even notice; others will be shocked and scream and may try to escape. However, this is a fear response. 3
For smaller birds, the best “ambulance” is a paper bag, like a lunch bag or a small paper shopping bag. Birds may still flap around inside, and the paper is soft enough that they won’t further injure themselves like they might if they are in a hard cardboard box or animal carrier. You can poke a few holes in the bag, though it is not necessary if the bird is not going to be inside for more than a few hours. 4 Absolutely do not give the bird water or food.
If you can’t get to a rehabber
If you absolutely cannot take the bird to a wildlife rehabber, keep the bird safe from predators and see if it will try to fly away in a bit. After the shock of the collision, a dark, quiet place can be helpful. So consider putting the bird in a bag or box and letting it restore for a while. After 30 minutes or so, take the bag or box as far away as possible from your home and other structures. 5 If it doesn’t, close the box back up and open it every 15 minutes until the bird is strong enough to achieve takeoff.
A.Many birds will also have brain injuries.
B.A box may be suitable for larger birds.
C.A big box is the best choice for them.
D.Open the box to allow the bird to fly out.
E.It is an indication that they are hungry.
F.It is not a sign that they are not injured.
G.However, a little love and protection could help.
Passage 2
What do nine Hawaiian snails have in common with the Texas longhorn, the Florida black leopard and the California grizzly bear? They’re all U. S. state animals. 1 They are the country’s first-ever state snails.
This past April, Hawaii passed a law to designate (指定) nine species of kāhuli — the Hawaiian word for the native land snails — as the state’s official snails. 2 Twenty-four-year-old Kaliko created a movement to have the state protect the snails. Kaliko began volunteering at the Bishop Museum the summer after ninth grade with two of his friends.
Evidence of the kāhuli’s historical abundance felt shocking as Kaliko prepared and scanned empty shells from the Bishop Museum’s collection. They painstakingly removed boxes from packed shelves, carefully handling the delicate remains of extinct snail species. The vibrant orange swirls of a snail shell belonging to the Carelia category caught their eye. 3 But the three-inch snails haven’t been seen on the island of Kauai since the mid-1900s and are assumed extinct. The 8-inch giant African snail and the 2.75-inch rosy wolf snail, are found throughout the state. 4
“I think that profound sadness is definitely the reason why I felt a strong urge to do the work that I was doing,” Kaliko says. Studying songs and stories about kāhuli helped them understand the creatures’ importance to their ancestors — the reason why, for instance, Hawaiians traditionally strung together lei (花环) consisting of thousands of kāhuli shells. 5 “This is a phenomenon that my ancestors were able to experience and I’m not able to experience,” Kaliko says.
A.And the snails hold another notable distinction.
B.The law was passed as a direct result of their advocacy.
C.The story of Hawaii’s state snails originated with one student.
D.The group once included the largest land snails native to the state.
E.Hawaiians would have also heard the sound of a forest full of native snails.
F.It proudly includes one of the world’s most comprehensive collections of land snails.
G.However, they are among the most damaging non-native species to the local ecosystem.
Passage 3
What if we take a closer look at the food chains in a garden? 1 Or how, as we put it in another way, everything gardens.
I began by looking at which larger predatory (捕食性的) creatures are in my garden. Some predators are at the tops of the food chains. Others, of course, can be both predators and prey (猎物). 2
Working out the place occupied by various wildlife in my garden comes next. With most creatures in the garden, including common pests (有害动物), the key to successfully living with them and preventing population explosions lies in understanding what they eat and what eats them, that is, their place within garden food chains. We also need to understand that there will never be just one food chain in operation. 3 Just think of the number of different things that will eat different insect species.
Looking at who is eating what, when, and where in our gardens can help us not only understand our gardens better but also get them to function better and find our own place as a gardener within the systems. 4 While these creatures are sometimes considered pests, they are extremely beneficial to keep the ecosystem in balance.
Seeing connections with an open mind can help a gardener understand nothing in the world works on its own. 5
A.Why should we work out what eats what in a garden?
B.The interdependence between garden creatures is limited.
C.Different creatures will compete over various forms of prey.
D.We should always let nature do some of the gardening as well.
E.Moles, for example, eat earthworms and are sometimes eaten by foxes.
F.We may begin to truly understand how every creature shapes its environment.
G.For example, tracing the food chains in my garden, I let field mice inhabit the space.

【答案】1.A 2 .D 3.C 4.F 5.E
1.前文“We all know the usual tips for shopping smart during the festive season— make a list, budget well, and haggle like your life depends on it.(我们都知道在节日期间明智购物的常用技巧——列一个清单,合理预算,像你的生活依赖于它一样讨价还价。)”提到了购物时的常用技巧,设空后文“If you really want to unlock shopping greatness this season, you need the secrets that most people haven’t even thought about.(如果你真的想在这个季节开启购物之旅,你需要知道大多数人都没有想过的秘诀。)” A“But those are just the basics(但这些只是最基本的)”为“But”转折句,“those”呼应前文内容,在句意方面可以引出后文。故选A项。
2 .根据后文“They’ll feel pressured to match it or risk losing face.(他们会感到压力,要么匹配,要么冒着丢脸的风险。)”可推知,应是设空句提及的某种行为导致售货商出现了这种情况;同时结合空前“By the time it’s your turn, you’ll know the vendors’ limits and can negotiate better without the guesswork.(轮到你的时候,你会知道售货商的底线,并且可以更好地进行谈判,而无需猜测。)” D“You can casually mention you overheard the lower price(你可以随便说你无意中听到了更低的价格)”提到了该行为,可使前后衔接紧密。故选D项。
根据段落内容“In big stores or markets, vendors often store discounted items at the back or in less visible corners. That’s where you’ll find those deals that others miss.(在大型商店或市场中,售货商经常将打折商品放在后面或不太显眼的角落。在那里,你会发现其他人错过的交易。)”可知,该段主要阐述了寻找角落里的打折商品。选项C“Check the ‘hidden corners’ for discounts(查看“隐藏角落”以获取折扣)”贴合该段主旨。故选C项。
4.根据前文“They just want to go home and might offer better deals to avoid hauling their goods back.(他们只是想回家,可能会提供更好的交易来避免把货物运回。)” F“This works best for perishable goods like vegetables, fruits, or even meat(这最适合蔬菜、水果甚至肉类等易腐货物)”提到了相关货物,同时句子中“This”呼应该段主旨。故选F项。
5.根据后文“Instead, pause, stare at them with a mix of disbelief and amusement, and wait for them to talk again.(相反,停下来,带着怀疑和娱乐的混合表情盯着他们,等他们再说话。)” E“When a vendor quotes a ridiculous price, don’t argue immediately(当售货商报价荒谬时,不要立即争辩)”提到的“售货商报价荒谬”符合分析,前后文衔接紧密。故选E项。
1.根据上文“During your teenage years, your body goes through many changes, and you may or may not like how your body develops. You start forming an image of your body.(在青少年时期,你的身体会经历很多变化,你可能喜欢也可能不喜欢你身体的发育方式。你开始形成自己身体的形象)”可知,本句承接上文,解释什么是身体形象。故C选项“简单地说,就是你如何看待、思考和感受自己”符合语境,故选C。
2 .根据上文“One of the major contributors of a negative body image is peer pressure. Even if you do not think you are being bullied by your group of friends, you may be laughed at casually about your appearance or you may simply notice that they seem more “perfect” than you. This can have a negative impact on your body image.(负面身体形象的主要原因之一是同伴压力。即使你认为你没有被你的一群朋友欺负,你可能会随意被嘲笑你的外表,或者你可能只是注意到他们看起来比你更“完美”。这会对你的身体形象产生负面影响)”以及后文“Often, an ideal body type is promoted heavily on social networks.(通常,理想的体型在社交网络上被大力宣传)”可知,后文主要说明了社交网络导致了负面身体形象,B选项中media对应后文social networks。
3.根据上文“A negative body image increases the risk of unhealthy behaviors like extreme dieting, overeating, over exercising, isolation, and risky surgeries. It also lowers life satisfaction and can lead to unhappiness.(负面的身体形象会增加不健康行为的风险,比如极端节食、暴饮暴食、过度锻炼、孤立和危险的手术。它还会降低生活满意度,导致不快乐)”以及下一段“To have a more positive body image, first accept that we are all unique individuals.(要有一个更积极的身体形象,首先要接受我们都是独特的个体)”可知,上文主要说明了负面身体形象导致的负面影响,下一段提出了如何拥有积极的身体形象,故E选项“总的来说,积极的身体形象的关键是自我接纳”符合语境,故选E。
4.根据上文“To have a more positive body image, first accept that we are all unique individuals. Imagine if everyone looked the same, the world would be a boring place.(要有一个更积极的身体形象,首先要接受我们都是独特的个体。想象一下,如果每个人看起来都一样,这个世界将是一个无聊的地方)”以及后文“Beauty standards keep changing all the time. What’s more, models and celebrities you see in the media may look “perfect” for the era, but, in fact, much of it is due to makeup, angles and lighting and Photoshop!(审美标准一直在变化。更重要的是,你在媒体上看到的模特和名人可能看起来“完美”,但事实上,这很大程度上是由于化妆、角度、灯光和PS!)”可知,上文指出每个人看起来一样世界将会变得无聊,后文指出审美标准一直在变化,说明没有完全完美的身体,因为审美标准一直在变化。故D选项“更重要的是,没有完美的身材”符合语境,故选D。
5.根据后文“Avoid commenting on others’ looks, and you will stop criticizing yourself too. If you have peers who constantly comment about your appearance, it might be time to re-evaluate the company you keep.(避免评论别人的长相,你也会停止批评自己。如果你的同龄人经常评论你的外表,也许是时候重新评估一下你的伙伴了)”可知,本段主要说明了不应该评论别人的长相,即不要只关注外表,故F选项“另外,不要只关注外表,要学会珍视人们的内在”符合语境,故选F。
【答案】1.G 2 .C 3.E 4.F 5.A
1.上文“Many businessmen often underestimate the importance of nonverbal communication — which is often half the message. (许多商人往往低估了非言语沟通的重要性,而非言语沟通往往是信息的一半)”讲到商人在说话时往往只注重说什么而忽略了肢体语言,下文“Imagine how much more effective your next meeting with your boss could be if only you give your nonverbal communication a little attention. (想象一下,如果你能稍微关注一下你的非言语沟通,你下次与老板的会面会有多有效)”建议人们要注意肢体语言,该空应承接上下文指出人们会忽视肢体语言这一事实,G选项“大多数人计划好要说什么,但他们忽略了自己的肢体语言。”切合语境。故选G项。
2 .由小标题“Triple Nod to Show You’re Engaged (三次点头表明你被吸引了)”和下文“Three quick, small nods in a row is the nonverbal sign for “tell me more” or “I hear you, explain.” It is a great way to show that you are interested and involved. (连续三次快速的小点头是“告诉我更多”或“我听到了,解释一下”的非言语信号。这是一种很好的方式来表明你的兴趣和参与)”可知,上下文强调要通过肢体语言(本段主讲三次点头)展现出对交流对象的兴趣,C选项“表明你对与你交谈的人感兴趣。”切合语境。故选C项。
3.由小标题“Stop Using Nervous Behaviors (不要低估手的力量)”和上文“Our hands speak volumes about who we are. Our brain pays attention to hands more than any other body part because we have evolved to look at them as a safety tool to make sure people won’t attack us. Whenever you have meetings, keep your hands above the table. (我们的双手充分说明了我们是谁。我们的大脑比任何其他身体部位都更关注手,因为我们已经进化到将手视为一种安全工具,以确保人们不会攻击我们。无论何时开会,都要把手放在桌子上方)”可知,本段强调肢体语言(本段主讲手的动作)的重要性,空前一句说要在开会时保持双手在桌子之上,推断这一空要说明为什么这样做的重要性,E选项“你将能够使用这个关键工具来传递信息。”切合语境。故选E项。
4.上文“Learn to stop displaying nervous body language so you don’t risk appearing anxious or incompetent. The most common behaviors are: wringing hands, rubbing arms, biting lips. (学会停止展示紧张的肢体语言,这样你就不会冒着显得焦虑或无能的风险。最常见的行为是:扭着手、揉胳膊、咬嘴唇)”例举了让你感到焦虑或无能的紧张的肢体语言有哪些,下文“Ask a friend to tell you if they notice you’re displaying any of the above behaviors. Once you know what they are, you can take actions to stop them.
5.与下文“Copying someone’s closed off body language or negative tone will only increase the tension between you. (模仿别人封闭的肢体语言或负面语气只会增加你们之间的紧张关系)” 形成对比,结合上文“If you’re a fast-talker, slowing down your speech to match the person you’re talking to helps put you on the same level. (如果你是一个健谈的人,放慢语速以匹配你正在交谈的人有助于让你处于同一水平)”可知,该段旨在说明模仿只应该针对正面的行为,A选项“当然,只遵循积极的行为。”切合语境。故选A项。
【答案】1.G 2 .A 3.E 4.D 5.F

3.根据上文“Whether finishing a drawing, making a vase, or baking a decorated cake, the process of bringing something from nothing gives you a sense of satisfaction, a much needed human emotion and feeling.(无论是完成一幅画、制作一个花瓶,还是烤一个装饰蛋糕,从无到有的过程都会给你一种满足感,一种人类急需的情感和感觉)”可知,上文提到完成艺术和手工艺作品会给人带来满足感,那么人们自然会为自己的创作感到自豪。选项E“Who won’t feel proud of their own creation?(谁不会为自己的创作感到自豪呢?)”
4.根据上文“Engaging with art generates a “flow state”, a mental state of complete focus where time seems to fade, and worries or stress disappear.(参与艺术活动会产生一种“心流状态”,这是一种完全专注的精神状态,在这种状态下,时间似乎消失了,忧虑或压力也消失了)”和下文“The act of focusing on a creative task provides a break from overthinking, allowing the mind to rest in a state of productive calm.(专注于创造性任务的行为可以让人从过度思考中解脱出来,让大脑在一种富有成效的平静中休息)”可知,“心流状态”会让人专注于自己所做的事。选项D“This state creates a sense of absorption.(这种状态会产生一种专注感)”符合语境。故选D。
5.下文“From making pottery (陶艺) with your own hands, which requires you to get down and dirty, to coloring with markers in a coloring book while listening to relaxing music, go ahead and pick one from so many options.(从亲手制作陶艺,这需要你亲自动手并弄脏自己,到在听放松音乐的同时用记号笔在涂色书上涂色,从这么多选项中选一个吧)”可知,下文提到了多种艺术和手工艺活动的类型,说明有很多适合不同人的艺术和手工艺活动。选项F“There are lots of types of arts and crafts suiting you.(有很多适合你的艺术和手工艺类型)”符合语境。故选F。

【答案】1.D 2 .G 3.F 4.E 5.A
1.由上文“Much of our social media use, however, happens without thought or reflection.(然而,我们在社交媒体上的很多使用都是不经思考或反思的。)” This makes it easier to develop habits that could harm relationships.(这会让人更容易养成可能损害人际关系的习惯。)
2 .由上文“Become curious about the full range of your feelings and begin to identify them throughout your day.(对自己所有的情绪保持好奇,并在一天中开始识别它们。)”及下文“Deep breathing, talking with a friend, and meditation are all good options.(深呼吸、和朋友聊天、冥想都是不错的选择。)” For emotions difficult to work with, try helpful actions to help you get through.(对于难以处理的情绪,尝试一些有益的行动来帮助自己度过。) 中“emotions difficult to work with”对应前文“those with which you are less familiar(那些不太熟悉的情绪)”,“helpful actions”直接引出下文具体的应对方法,形成“识别情绪→应对策略”的紧密衔接。故选G项。
3.由下文“To bring yourself to the present moment, wait 30 seconds first every time you open an app.(为了让自己回到当下,每次打开应用程序时先等30秒。)” Too often, we turn to social media to distract ourselves from where we are.(我们常常借助社交媒体来分散对当下的注意力。)中“distract ourselves from where we are”点明了问题 —— 社交媒体会让人脱离当下,与“bring yourself to the present moment”形成对比,解释了“等待30秒”的目的是对抗这种分心,逻辑连贯。故选F项。
4.由上文“Work to interact with people face-to-face regularly.(努力定期与人面对面交流。)”及下文“It might also include making a phone call for every six texts you send.(这也可能包括每发六条短信就打一个电话。)” This can include purchasing coffee in person rather than ordering online.(这可以包括亲自去买咖啡,而不是网上订购。)中This指代“定期面对面交流”的行为,“purchasing coffee in person”是现实社交的日常例子,与“making a phone call”并列,共同阐释“soft social communication skills”的实践方式。故选E项。
5.由上文“Commit to practicing being in these spaces, even when it’s difficult and feels ineffective.(坚持在这些场所活动,即使过程很困难且感觉没效果。)” A项The act of showing up will pay off over time.(这种出现的行为会随着时间的推移得到回报。)中“showing up”对应“being in these spaces”,“pay off”强调坚持的长期益处,与“healthier relationships and better mental health”呼应,形成“行动坚持→积极结果”的逻辑。故选A项。
【答案】1.F 2 .C 3.B 4.E 5.A
1.前文“When you log into social media, does an algorithm (算法) govern your feed? When shopping online, do you often focus on top-listed, AI-suggested items? If you answer “Yes”, most of the time, you go along with what the algorithm recommends. (当你登录社交媒体时,是否有算法管理你的推送?网上购物时,你是否常关注AI推荐的置顶商品?如果回答“是”,大多数时候你会听从算法推荐)”描述人们普遍跟随算法推荐的行为,后文“As the name suggests, the term refers to our growing tendency to outsource decisions to systems designed to predict and control our behavior. (顾名思义,这个术语指的是我们日益倾向于将决策权交给那些旨在预测和控制我们行为的系统)”给出对这一现象的专业定义,因此F项“Psychologists term this common practice “algorithmic dependence”. (心理学家将这种常见现象称为“算法依赖”)”符合语境,给出该现象的术语,承前启后,其中的this common practice指代前文行为,algorithmic dependence是后文的the term指代的对象。故选F。
2 .前文“Now, there’s nothing fundamentally wrong with accepting algorithmic suggestions. (现在,接受算法建议从根本上来说并无不妥)”肯定算法的合理性,后文“But like water slowly carving stone, repeated reliance on AI recommendations can weaken our capacity for independent judgement and even our sense of self. (但正如滴水穿石般,对AI推荐的反复依赖会逐渐削弱我们独立判断的能力,甚至动摇自我认知的根基)”指出长期依赖算法的危害,因此C项“In many cases they save us considerable time. (在许多情况下,它们为我们节省大量时间)”符合语境,具体说明算法节省时间的益处,承接前文,和后文构成转折,其中的they指代前文的algorithmic suggestions。故选C。
3.后文“It is the capacity to make intentional choices and take purposeful action. (它是做出有意选择和采取有目的行动的能力)”讨论人类自主决策能力,因此B项“So, it’s time to reclaim human agency. (因此,是时候重新找回人类的自主权了)”符合语境,引出对自主决策的呼吁,统领段落,其中的human agency是后文It指代的对象。故选B。
4.前文“That is, before accepting a recommendation, pause and ask, “Would I have made this choice on my own?”(也就是说,在接受一个推荐之前,停下来问问自己:“如果完全由我自己决定,我会做出同样的选择吗?”)”给出有意停顿的具体方法,因此E项“This short reflection brings awareness to your decisions. (这种短暂反思会让你对决策有清醒认知)”符合语境,指出方法的有效性,承接前文。故选E。
5.前文“As AI becomes more integrated in our lives, we must actively preserve our decision-making capacities. (随着AI深度融入生活,我们必须积极维护决策能力)”总结维护自主决策的必要性,因此A项“That is how we remain human. (这便是我们保持人性的方式)”符合语境,将自主决策提升至人性本质的高度,以哲学视角收束全文,强化核心论点。故选A。
【答案】1.E 2 .B 3.C 4.D 5.F

【答案】1.F 2 .E 3.B 4.G 5.A

【答案】1.G 2 .A 3.F 4.B 5.D
1.结合前一句“Finding a bird scared after striking a window can be a surprising and heartbreaking experience. (发现一只鸟在撞到窗户后受到惊吓可能是一种令人惊讶和心碎的经历)”和下文列举的具体方法可知,虽然这是一次令人心碎的经历,但采取点措施就可以帮助它们,G项“然而,一点点爱和保护可能会有所帮助”符合语境,故选G。
2 .根据前一句“Most window-collision birds will have some degree of eye injury. (大多数撞窗的鸟都会有一定程度的眼睛受伤)”可知,大多数撞窗的鸟儿的眼睛会受伤,A项“许多鸟类也会有脑损伤”中的also构成递进关系,也是描述撞窗的鸟儿的受伤情况,故选A。
3.根据上文“others will shock and scream and may try to escape. However, this is a fear response. (其他鸟会震惊和尖叫,并可能试图逃跑。然而,这是一种害怕的反应)”可知,有的鸟会震惊和尖叫并试图逃跑,这是害怕的反应,F项“这并不表示他们没有受伤”与上文构成对比关系,逃跑是因为害怕,并不表示它们没有受伤,故选F。
4.根据上文“For smaller birds, the best “ambulance” is a paper bag, like a lunch bag or a small paper shopping bag. (对于体型较小的鸟类来说,最好的“救护车”是纸袋,比如午餐袋或小型纸质购物袋)”可知,上文描述了对于体形较小的鸟类,最好的“救护车”是纸袋,B项“盒子可能适合较大的鸟”讲述使用盒子救助体型较大的鸟,符合语境,故选B。
5.根据下文“If it doesn’t, close the box back up and open it every 15 minutes until the bird is strong enough to achieve takeoff. (如果不能飞出去,把箱子重新关上,每隔15分钟打开一次,直到小鸟有足够的力量起飞)”可知,前后表示相反的关系,表示对比,下文讲鸟不能飞的情况,空处应是对应讲鸟可以飞的情况,D项“打开盒子,让鸟儿飞出去”符合语境,故选D。
【答案】1.A 2 .C 3.D 4.G 5.E
1.根据上文“What do nine Hawaiian snails have in common with the Texas longhorn, the Florida black leopard and the California grizzly bear?
2 .根据后文“Twenty-four-year-old Kaliko created a movement to have the state protect the snails. Kaliko, began volunteering at the Bishop Museum the summer after ninth grade with two of his friends.(24岁的Kaliko发起了一项运动,旨在促使政府保护这些蜗牛。Kaliko在九年级结束后的那个夏天,与他的两个朋友一起开始在毕晓普博物馆进行志愿服务工作)”可知,后文介绍24岁的Kaliko发起保护蜗牛的运动,故本句引出下文对Kaliko的描述,故C选项“夏威夷州的蜗牛故事始于一名学生”符合语境,故选C。
3.根据上文“Evidence of the kāhuli’s historical abundance felt shocking as Kaliko prepared and scanned empty shells from the Bishop Museum’s collection. They painstakingly removed boxes from packed shelves, carefully handling the delicate remains of extinct snail species. The vibrant orange swirls of a snail shell belonging to the Carelia category caught their eye.(卡胡利贝类生物曾经数量众多这一事实令人震惊,Kaliko一边准备一边仔细查看来自比斯普尔博物馆收藏的空贝壳。
5.根据上文“Studying songs and stories about kāhuli helped them understand the creatures’ importance to their ancestors — the reason why, for instance, Hawaiians traditionally strung together lei (花环) consisting of thousands of kāhuli shells.(通过研究有关卡胡利的歌曲和故事,他们明白了这些生物对于他们祖先的重要性——比如,正是出于这个原因,夏威夷人传统上会用成千上万片卡胡利贝壳串成花环)”以及后文“This is a phenomenon that my ancestors were able to experience and I’m not able to experience(这是一种只有我的祖先能够经历而我却无法经历的现象)”可知,前文讲蜗牛对祖先的重要性(如做花环),本句进一步补充蜗牛在祖先生活中的存在,与后文Kaliko无法经历形成呼应,故E选项“夏威夷人还会听到一片满是本土蜗牛的森林发出的声音”符合语境,故选E。
1.由上文“What if we take a closer look at the food chains in a garden? (如果我们仔细观察花园里的食物链会怎样呢?)”及下文“Or how, as we put it in another way, everything gardens. (或者,用另一种方式说,万物如何造园)”可知,上文提出了一个关于花园里食物链的问题,本空应对此问题进行回答,且与下文“万物如何造园”相一致。F选项“We may begin to truly understand how every creature shapes its environment. (我们可能开始真正了解每种生物是如何塑造其环境的。)”能够回应上文的问题,且指出每种生物是如何塑造其环境,与下文万物如何造园相一致,符合题意。故选F。
2 .由上文“I began by looking at which larger predatory (捕食性的) creatures are in my garden. Some predators are at the tops of the food chains. Others, of course, can be both predators and prey (猎物). (我先看看我的花园里有哪些大型的捕食性生物。一些捕食者处于食物链的顶端。当然,其他的既可以是捕食者也可以是猎物。)”可知,上文提到了花园里的捕食者和猎物,本空应举例说明捕食者既可以是顶端捕食者也可以同时成为其他动物的食物,E选项“Moles, for example, eat earthworms and are sometimes eaten by foxes. (例如,鼹鼠吃蚯蚓,有时也被狐狸吃掉。)”举了一个捕食者和猎物的例子,能承接上文,符合题意。故选E。
3.由上文“We also need to understand that there will never be just one food chain in operation. (我们还需要明白,永远不会只有一条食物链在运行。)”及下文“Just think of the number of different things that will eat different insect species. (想想会有多少不同的东西吃不同的昆虫种类。)”可知,本空应强调花园里食物链的多样性,C选项“Different creatures will compete over various forms of prey. (不同的生物会为各种形式的猎物而竞争。)”说明了不同生物会因为食物而竞争,进一步说明了食物链的多样性,能承上启下,符合题意。故选C。
4.由上文“Looking at who is eating what, when, and where in our gardens can help us not only understand our gardens better but also get them to function better and find our own place as a gardener within the systems. (看看谁在花园里吃什么,什么时候吃,什么地方吃,这不仅能帮助我们更好地了解我们的花园,还能让它们更好地发挥作用,并在这个系统中找到我们作为园丁的位置。)”及下文“While these creatures are sometimes considered pests, they are extremely beneficial to keep the ecosystem in balance. (虽然这些生物有时被认为是害虫,但它们对保持生态系统的平衡非常有益。)”可知,本空应强调理解和接受花园中所有生物的角色对于维持生态平衡的重要性,G选项“For example, tracing the food chains in my garden, I let field mice inhabit the space. (例如,在追踪花园里的食物链时,我让田鼠栖息在这个空间里。)”提供了一个实际的例子,说明如何通过允许某些生物存在来维持生态平衡,能承上启下,符合题意。故选G。
5.由上文“Seeing connections with an open mind can help a gardener understand nothing in the world works on its own. (以开放的心态看待联系可以帮助园丁理解世界上没有什么东西是独自运作的。)”可知,上文强调以开放的心态看待联系,本空应强调大自然的园艺作用,D选项“We should always let nature do some of the gardening as well. (我们也应该让大自然做一些园艺工作。)”能承接上文,符合语境。故选D。
