B As a freelance (自由职业的) writer, the structure of my workday can often vary wildly. Sometimes, it feels as if I have too much to do — other days, too little. Yet no matter the shape of my 9 to 5, one thing remains constant: emails. About a year ago, I found my email-checking habit had become more distracting (分心的) than usual. When working on my computer, I found myself nervously checking my phone for unread emails whenever hitting a mental block. Even worse, during lunch or walks, that habit of checking would come with me, making my breaks an extension of the workday. The little red dot on my Gmail app had become a marker of my professional image: the more unread emails, the more I felt I was failing. By quickly responding to everyone, I convinced myself I was seen as reliable by my paymasters and therefore worthy of the work I needed to pay my electricity bills, so I could charge my phone, read my emails and carry on the endless cycle. However, speed doesn’t always mean quality. I was always contactable — but at what cost? I took on too much work, not allowing myself space to reflect on the value of my work. The content machine kept running and I was busy, producing “word salad” onto the internet. Something needed to change. After a particularly crazy week of nonstop emailing, I deleted the email app. The difference was immediately noticeable. I began to rest better. Now, my workdays remain unpredictable, but I’ve realised that a lack of structure needn’t stop me setting boundaries (边界) for myself. Uninterrupted breaks help me focus when I get back to work. Taking a few hours to respond to messages — instead of just minutes — often makes no difference to the sender and allows me to digest the content properly. I am still surviving as a freelancer in a fast-paced industry, but now I can spend my time endlessly checking my phone for Instagram stories instead. 4. How did the email-checking habit affect the author? A. It caused him mental disorder. B. It made his breaks less relaxing. C. It kept him extremely impatient. D. It changed the structure of his workday. 5. Why did the author feel the need to respond to emails quickly? A. He wanted to avoid long working hours. B. He sought high pay to cover electricity bills. C. He desired to maintain a professional image. D. He believed multitasking ensured employment. 6. What does the author imply by mentioning “word salad” in paragraph 4? A. He was far from productive. B. He valued quality over quantity. C. His work was creative and tasteful. D. His work lacked meaningful content. 7. What does the author learn after deleting the email app? A. Email senders prefer thoughtful replies. B. Social media is more important than email. C. Setting boundaries can improve work efficiency. D. Freelancers should get used to a fast-paced lifestyle. C Growing up on the Guanzhong Plain, He Jing didn’t start mountaineering until 18. Her first climb, in 2006, was in the Qinling Mountains, and it sparked a passion for the sport. In 2012, feeling sad for the loss of her grandmother, He attempted her first mountain over 5,000 meters — Mount Siguniang in Sichuan province. The experience provided her with a sense of peace and relief. “As I approached the summit (顶峰) and saw the rosy light on the snow, I found peace and a release from my inner confusion,” she recalled. Since then, He has been devoted to climbing high-altitude peaks. She summited her first 8,000-meter peak, Mount Cho Oyu, in 2016, using just one bottle of oxygen. Realizing she could handle the extreme altitude (海拔), she decided to attempt future climbs without oxygen, a move partly motivated by cost savings. Climbing without oxygen carries significant risks due to the thin atmosphere at high altitudes. To prepare, He trained strictly, running at least five times a week, climbing 200 flights of stairs with a 20-kilogram load twice weekly, and using an oxygen-restricting mask to simulate high-altitude conditions. “At altitudes above 8,000 meters, the human brain experiences extreme lack of oxygen, and the body becomes sleepy. I kept telling myself not to fall asleep, as I might never wake up again,” she said. Her first successful summit without bottled oxygen came on Sept. 25, 2017, when she reached the top of Mount Manaslu in Nepal. On Oct. 9 this year, she reached the summit of the 8,027-meter Mount Shishapangma in China’s Xizang autonomous region, becoming the first person from China and the third woman in the world to scale all 14 of the world’s peaks over 8,000 meters without the use of additional oxygen. 8. What motivated He to attempt her climbing in 2012? A Her enthusiasm for climbing. B Her desire to challenge herself. C. Her sorrow for losing her grandmother. D. Her determination to handle the extreme altitude. 9. How did He prepare herself for climbing without additional oxygen? A. By running four or five times a week. B. By training in high-altitude conditions. C. By climbing stairs with loads regularly. D. By wearing a mask with adequate oxygen. 10. Which of the following words best describe He? A. Energetic and sociable. B. Determined and passionate. C Demanding and humble. D. Strong-willed and friendly. 11. What does He’s experience tell us? A. Look before you leap. B. More haste (匆忙), less speed. C. Every cloud has a silver lining. D. Where there is a will, there is a way. D Being struck by lightning is something humans generally try to avoid. But for at least one tropical tree species, this might be a good thing. Scientists have long believed that being hit by lightning could have only negative effects on trees. “Your best-case scenario (设想) is that you’re kind of okay, and your worst-case scenario is: you explode in a million bits,” says Evan Gora, a forest ecologist at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in New York State. But after spending many years studying the effects of lightning on rainforests, Gora began wondering whether trees could not only survive this usually deadly event but also actually get some kind of advantage from it. To find out, he and his colleagues spent several years following the fate of 93 trees from various species in the rainforest of central Panama when they were directly struck by lightning. Nine were from a species known as the almendro (油蜡豆树), a forest giant native to Central and South America that can grow up to 165 feet tall. After the trees were struck, the researchers continued to monitor the ones that survived the shock, checking their overall condition. The results showed that the almendro trees were very resistant to lightning and minimally damaged. A few other large species also survived the strikes and might have benefitted as well, but lightning had not struck enough of these species for the researchers to be certain. The researchers also assume that the almendro might have evolved to attract lightning — or at least not to avoid it, as most other trees have. Almendro trees’ wide crown (树冠) and tall height. which enhance its chance of being hit, make it a living lightning rod (避雷针). Gora thinks similar abilities to benefit from lightning might be widespread across other species and types of forests. Allan Carroll, a disturbance ecologist at the University of British Columbia, who wasn’t involved in the research, says, “The findings of the study are quite novel and make a significant contribution to our knowledge of plant evolution.” 12. Why does the author quote Evan Gora? A. To show a fact. B. To support a point. C. To explain a concept. D. To illustrate a phenomenon. 13. How did researchers study the effects of lightning on trees? A. They checked the related data yearly. B. They tracked the subjects for a long time. C. They compared the height of different trees. D. They recorded the frequency of lighting occurrences. 14. What can we learn from paragraph 4? A. Almendro trees are likely to attract lightning. B. The result of the research is totally convincing. C. Being resistant to lightning is common to trees. D. Almendro trees can get sheltered from lightning. 15. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. How do trees conduct electricity? B. How are trees protected from lightning? C. Can tree species benefit from lightning? D. Can lightning harm rainforest ecosystem? Relieve the Sunday Scares Many look forward to weekends, but as they end, about 75% to 80% of people face “Sunday scares”—anxiety about the next week. ____16____ It is often due to work pressures, yet it’s not an anxiety disorder. His career was like a long and winding road filled with challenges and joys. In the early years, he struggled to make math interesting to students who often found it boring. But he never gave up. He used colorful charts, fun games, and real-life examples to explain complex problems. Over time, he became a beloved figure in the school. His classroom was always filled with laughter and the sound of eager students asking questions. One of the most memorable moments was when he helped a shy student named Emily overcome her fear of math. Emily used to tremble whenever she had to solve a problem on the blackboard. But Gayle was patient. He encouraged her step by step. One day, when Emily finally solved a difficult problem correctly, the whole class cheered. From that day on, Emily became more confident, and she even started helping other students. Gayle felt a deep sense of pride and fulfillment. Today was different. It was Gayle’s last day before retirement. As he walked into the classroom, he felt a mix of emotions. The familiar desks, the chalkboard, and the smiling faces of his students all seemed to be saying goodbye. He took a deep breath and began the lesson as usual, but his heart was heavy. He knew he would miss the daily interactions with his students and the excitement of seeing them learn and grow. As the class went on, Gayle could feel the students’ attention more focused than ever. They seemed to sense that this was a special day. He finished the last problem on the board and turned to the class. “Well, that’s it for today. And for me, it’s the end of a long journey. I just want to say how much I’ve enjoyed teaching you all. You’ve made these years truly memorable.” Just then, the classroom door opened, and in walked the headmaster, followed by all the other teachers and staff. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One by one, the students came up to him, giving him hugs and handing him cards and gifts. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高三英语 时间:120分钟 满分:150分 第一部分:听力(共两节,满分30分) 第一节(共5小题;每小题1.5分,满分7.5分) 听下面5段对话。 1.How does the woman usually go to work? However speed doesn’t always mean quality. 6 What does the author imply by mentioning “word salad” in paragraph 4? B 5. C 6. D 7. 根据第二段中“When working on my computer, I found myself nervously checking my phone for unread emails whenever hitting a mental block. Even worse, during lunch or walks, that habit of checking would come with me, making my breaks an extension of the workday. (当我在电脑上工作时,每当遇到思维障碍,我就会紧张地查看手机是否有未读邮件。更糟糕的是,在午餐时间或散步时,查看手机的习惯也会如影随形,让我的休息时间变成了工作日的延伸。)”可知,查看邮件的习惯让作者的休息时间变得不那么放松。故选B。 【5题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“The little red dot on my Gmail app had become a marker of my professional image: the more unread emails, the more I felt I was failing. By quickly responding to everyone, I convinced myself I was seen as reliable by my paymasters and therefore worthy of the work I needed to pay my electricity bills, so I could charge my phone, read my emails and carry on the endless cycle. (Gmail应用上的那个小红点已经成了我职业形象的标志:未读邮件越多,我就越觉得自己很失败。通过快速回复每个人,我让自己相信,在雇主眼中我是个可靠的人,因此值得获得那份用来支付电费的工作,这样我就能给手机充电、查看邮件,然后继续这个无尽的循环。)”可知,作者觉得需要快速回复邮件是因为他想维护自己的职业形象。故选C。 【6题详解】 推理判断题。根据第四段中“I took on too much work, not allowing myself space to reflect on the value of my work. The content machine kept running and I was busy, producing “word salad” onto the internet. (我承担了太多的工作,没有给自己空间去思考我工作的价值。内容机器一直在运转,我很忙,在互联网上制造着“文字沙拉”。)”可推知,作者用“文字沙拉”暗示自己的工作缺乏有意义的内容。故选D。 【7题详解】 细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“Now, my workdays remain unpredictable, but I’ve realised that a lack of structure needn’t stop me setting boundaries (边界) for myself. Uninterrupted breaks help me focus when I get back to work. (现在,我的工作日仍然不可预测,但我已经意识到,缺乏结构并不妨碍我为自己设定界限。不间断的休息有助于我回到工作时集中注意力。)”可知,作者在删除邮件应用后学到了设定界限可以提高工作效率。故选C。 C Growing up on the Guanzhong Plain, He Jing didn’t start mountaineering until 18. A. Her enthusiasm for climbing. B. Her desire to challenge herself. C. Demanding and humble. D. Strong-willed and friendly. 11. What does He’s experience tell us? A. Look before you leap. B. More haste (匆忙), less speed. C. Every cloud has a silver lining. D. Where there is a will, there is a way. 8. C 9. C 10. B 11. B 13. B 14. A 15. 根据第二段“Scientists have long believed that being hit by lightning could have only negative effects on trees. “Your best-case scenario (设想) is that you’re kind of okay, and your worst-case scenario is: you explode in a million bits,” says Evan Gora, a forest ecologist at the Cary Institute of Ecosystem Studies in New York State. (科学家们长期以来一直认为,被闪电击中只会对树木产生负面影响。纽约州卡里生态系统研究所的森林生态学家Evan Gora说:“最好的情况是,你基本没事,而最坏的情况是,你会被炸得粉碎。”)”可知,作者引用Evan Gora的话是为了支持一个观点,即长期以来科学家认为雷击对树木只有负面影响。故选B。 【13题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“To find out, he and his colleagues spent several years following the fate of 93 trees from various species in the rainforest of central Panama when they were directly struck by lightning. You’ve made these years truly memorable.” 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150个左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡相应位置作答。 Just then, the classroom door opened, and in walked the headmaster, followed by all the other teachers and staff. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ One by one, the students came up to him, giving him hugs and handing him cards and gifts. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 Just then, the classroom door opened, and in walked the headmaster, followed by all the other teachers and staff. The headmaster stepped forward and said, ‌“Mr. Nicholls, you’ve dedicated over 30 years to educating our students. Your passion and commitment have left an indelible mark on this school. We want to express our sincere gratitude.” Gayle was deeply touched, his eyes welling up with tears. The students clapped and cheered, creating a warm and festive atmosphere. One by one, the students came up to him, giving him hugs and handing him cards and gifts. Each card was filled with heartfelt words of appreciation and love. Some students recalled how he had helped them overcome difficulties in math, while others thanked him for being a kind and inspiring teacher. Gayle held each card tightly, cherishing these precious memories. As he looked around at the smiling faces of his students, teachers, and the headmaster, he knew that his retirement was not an end but a new beginning. His influence would continue to live on in the hearts of those he had taught. 词汇激活: 行为类 ①走上前:step forward/walk forward ②献身于:dedicate/devote ③珍惜:cherish/treasure/value 情绪类 ①感动:touched/moved/affected ②感激:appreciation/gratitude/thankfulness 【点睛】【高分句型1】They were carrying a large cake with “Thank You, Mr. Nicholls” written on it in colorful icing.(运用了with复合结构作定语) 【高分句型2】Gayle was deeply touched, his eyes welling up with tears.(运用了独立主格结构作伴随状语) 【高分句型3】As he looked around at the smiling faces of his students, teachers, and the headmaster, he knew that his retirement was not an end but a new beginning.(运用了从属连词as引导时间状语从句和that引导的宾语从句) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
