Here are the survey results about the major causes of traffic accidents by the research center. The two charts(图表) show that three major causes of traffic accidents are driver, road environment and vehicle(车辆)factors. However, driver factors are by far the greatest.
The pie chart shows 85% of the car accidents are caused by drivers while 10% by road environment and another 5% by vehicles themselves.
The bar chart suggests that driver factors are mainly speeding(超速驾驶), drunk driving, driving when tired and not using seat belts(安全带). Speeding is the most dangerous action.

Both my wife and I are running lovers. I usually run on the track in my neighborhood. Most people walk on the track, so I am faster than them. My speed seems amazing to the walkers and I often pass by them twenty or more times around the track. This makes me feel proud.
One day, a short man came. He didn't look like much of a runner. I saw him get out of the car and warm up before running when I passed by two walkers. He started running a few metres ahead of me. He was fast but I sped up and managed to catch up with him. I had someone to compete with. But after a lap (圈), I fell behind him and had great difficulty in breathing. After two laps, my foot began to hurt, so I had to slow down and began to run at my usual speed. This time I could breathe again without sounding like I had a lung disease (肺病) and the pain in my foot went away. In a very short time, he was far ahead. He was too fast for me to follow.
That day, I learnt several lessons. In life, there will always be those slower and faster. Some have natural talent (天赋), and some have trained harder. Don't judge (判断) the capacity of a person by how he or she looks.
The point is that we each have our own speed. When we are trying to keep up, we often end up hurting ourselves and being out of breath. Slow down or speed up, but run your race to your best. Don't run fast when you should be running slowly. Don't run at all when you should be walking. Don't walk when you should be running.
9. ( )What was the author's first impression of the short man?
A.He was an amazing runner. B.He was an experienced driver.
C.He wasn't good at running. D.He was too proud of himself.
10. ( )What happened to the author when he slowed down?
A.His breath became much heavier.
B.His foot didn't hurt anymore.
C.He sounded like having an illness.
D.He started to have a pain in his foot.
11. ( )What does the underlined word “capacity” probably mean?
A.Age. B.Job. C.Attitude. D.Ability.
12. ( )(高阶思维·标题归纳) Which can be the best title for the text?
A.The slower, the healthier B.The faster, the better
C.Keep fit through running D.Enjoy your own speed
D
It's important to teach your children good manners. Teaching good manners should begin long before they know how to walk or talk. In life, you have to set a good example to them.
But how do we teach them good manners? There is a good book, How to Behave and Why. It is written by Munro Leaf. I read it with my firstgrade students and we love the book. It tells good manners that every child should know. The words in the book are not difficult and there are pictures in it. They make the book easy to understand.
Also, you can teach your children in life. Before they go to school or a friend's house, tell them the importance of good manners. In your family, you can make a list of family manners. This helps children learn good manners anytime. And you can have a manners competition. It makes learning manners more interesting.
What are good manners for children? At school, they should respect (尊敬) teachers and other classmates. They shouldn't be noisy in class. And they should say “hello” or “goodbye” to teachers and classmates, and “thank you” when they get help from others. Good table manners are important, too. For example, teach your children not to talk with their mouths full. Tell them that old people should eat first. Teach your children not to be late for classes, parties, meetings and so on.
In fact, good manners will provide a lot of help for your children in their daily life. So teach them to your children and learn with your children.
13. ( )Who is the text probably written to?
A.Teachers. B.Parents. C.Children. D.Doctors.
14. ( )What does Paragraph 2 mainly tell us?
A.Competitions can make learning easy.
B.Teach children by reading the book together.
C.The writer's children have good manners.
D.Always set a good example to the children.
15. ( )(新考法·写作手法) How does the writer develop the fourth paragraph?
A.By telling his own story. B.By showing facts.
C.By giving examples. D.By listing numbers.
16. ( )(高阶思维·标题归纳) What is the best title for the text?
A.The Importance of Reading
B.Family Manners and Competitions
C.How to Behave in School
D.Teaching Good Manners to Children

Conductor (乐队指挥) throws out audience (观众) member whose phone rang!
At the National Music Hall in Madrid, Wednesday's performance (演出) of Handel's Messiah was cut in by a mobile phone ringing in a row close to the stage. Conductor William Christie stopped the performance, turned, pointed at the man, and shouted, “Out! You have just broken one of the most beautiful works ever written.” The phone owner got up and quickly left the hall.
Comments Danny 23 December 14:50
Good for him. It's time to say no to this kind of behavior (行为). If people can't live without their phones for two hours, they shouldn't go to concerts. We need a new rule for concert halls and theatres: You have to leave your phone in a certain place outside the hall. And the same for the cinema!
REPLY Cassie 23 December 17:30
Great idea. I would also add another rule: If you are caught with a mobile phone in the concert hall, you might pay a fine (罚款)!
REPLY Anton 23 December 19:43
If people aren't allowed to use phones at concerts, the theatre will lose a lot of audience. There are people who have work phones, and their companies tell them they mustn't give their phones to anyone.
REPLY Kasia 24 December 01:16
I think all concert halls should block (阻断) mobile phone reception (接收).
REPLY Marcel 24 December 07:08
Blocking reception won't solve the problem. Sometimes it's an alarm (闹钟) that makes the phone ring. What really matters is to raise the awareness (意识) of rules.
41. Why was the conductor angry?

五、45. Dear Susan,
Hi! I want to tell you about the rules I have to follow at home and school.
There are many rules at my home. I must help with the dishes after dinner every day. I can use my smart phone for an hour every week. I have to finish my homework first after school. Before I go to bed, I have to take a shower.
Our school has school rules. We must arrive by 7:50 in the morning and listen to the teachers carefully in class. We can't run or shout in the hallways.
I think the rules are very important to us and we should obey them.
What about you? What rules do you have to follow?
Yours,
Li Hua
