Passage 1(山东省聊城市茌平区2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )
I’m Diana and have lived in my present house for 11 years. But I know very little about my neighbors. It’s not that I don’t want to know my neighbors. I am just quiet and shy. While some people are happy to invite the whole street to a dinner party, some of us will never be that outgoing. Here are a few ways for the rest of us.
The easiest way to get to know the people in your neighborhood is to go outside. Spend time in your front yard at a certain time. Sit in front of the door at the same time every day and finally someone will say hello. If you feel strange just sitting there, pick up a hobby that you can do in your front yard, like reading, bird watching, or drinking tea.
Then, you can look for community activities that you can drop into, chat a little, and leave whenever you want. When there is an activity going on, the focus won’t be on you, making it easier to communicate with people. Try five minutes, if you have to bail.
If you are interested in gardening, you will notice the neighbors who are also into gardening. Ask them about their garden! Asking questions is the easiest way to connect because you are placing the focus on the other person. If you have a dog, talk to other dog people on your walks. If you have a kid, ask other parents about things to do with kids.
If you are wondering why it’s good to be friendly with your neighbors, keep reading.

Do you know what a team needs most? If people on your team are not good at communication, you may often feel terrible. To create a successful team, good communication is the most necessary for both the team members and the leader. Here are some helpful suggestions.
①Don’t criticize (批评) other people. When someone on your team does something wrong, don’t criticize them. You can help them to find the reasons and then help them to solve the problem. Criticizing your team members too often may make them want to keep away from you. As a result, you may feel lonely.
②Listen to other people actively and think about their ideas carefully. When someone tells you about their ideas, you should listen to them actively and think about their ideas carefully, no matter how silly they may seem. This shows you are interested in their ideas and makes them feel good. If you are unclear about something, you should ask them about it. By doing this you can clear up any confusion (困惑) before moving on.
③Share your own ideas with other people. When you have a new idea, talk about it with your team members. This helps to make the idea better. Besides, it also helps to make your relationships with your team members better.
④Create an environment where everyone feels comfortable expressing their thoughts and opinions without fear. This builds trust, leading to a more harmonious (和谐的) team. By the way, regular (定期的) team meetings should be held to discuss something important and necessary.

Being confident isn’t just about what you know or think; confidence comes from how you feel in your body too.
If your shoulders are hunched (驼背的) and your head’s down, you feel differently to the way you feel when you’re sitting or standing straight with your head up and your shoulders back. Try it for yourself. How do you feel now?
Research has found that when you’re hunched with your arms and legs crossed and looking down, your body releases (释放) chemicals that can make you feel more stressed or worried. Young people’s coach Maria Evans says your body and brain are connected. “When you stand with your back tall, legs apart (分开) and hands on hips, your body sends the message to your mind that you feel confident and strong.”
Your body language doesn’t just affect how you feel. It tells other people how nervous or brave you feel too. Think about someone you see as confident. How do they carry themselves? Bring to mind a movie or TV character you admire for being brave or strong and picture how he sits, stands or walks. See if you can do the same.
If you’re feeling nervous, perhaps before you sit a test or do something new, you can feel more confident by taking a power posture (姿势). Sit or stand up straight with both feet planted on the ground. Stretch your arms out above your head. Keep your shoulders down and your head up to help you keep the confident feeling. Evans suggests doing a power posture for a few minutes before school. Notice how it makes you feel and how your mood has changed.

So far, China has successfully sent a large number of satellites (卫星) and spaceships into space. Space scientists have been greatly inspired (赋予灵感) by the old stories and ancient famous people when giving them names.
Since thousands of years ago, Chinese people have dreamed of going to the moon. Chang’e Flies to the Moon is one of the most popular stories. As you can see, China’s first man-made satellite to circle around the moon was named Chang’e-1. More interestingly, the moon rover (巡视器) was named after the Jade Rabbit, who is the partner of Chang’e in the story. These old stories carry people’s best wishes and dreams. With the development of science and technology, our scientists have made them come true.
Kuafu Runs After the Sun is another story to show how much ancient Chinese people wanted to know about the unknown world. Now, Kuafu is going with the scientists to “visit” the sun, because we have a space project called Kuafu Mission.
Besides the ancient stories, space scientists also get ideas from ancient famous people. For example, Mozi, an ancient scientist, discovered that light travels in a straight line over 2, 000 years ago. His discovery made space study take a big step at that time. So, China’s first quantum (量子) science satellite was named Mozi, making China the first country in the world to achieve quantum communication between satellites and the ground.
From such simple things as giving names to the satellites, we can see how great our traditional culture is and what influence it has on our modern science and technology.

At an early age, we start learning how to manage money by watching our parents’ spending habits. Don’t worry if we haven’t learned well how to save or spend money. The following life lessons about money can help us form good spending habits.
Money doesn’t grow on trees. As kids, we don’t often think about where money comes from. We need to know that our parents work hard to make money, and that it may be used up one day. Going to their workplaces to watch how they work is a great way to understand money is not that easy to make.
We shouldn’t spend all our money in one go. It’s important for us to have a budget. In other words, we need to think about how much money we have and what we really want to spend it on. Realizing that our pocket money can’t cover everything we want, we should make smart spending choices.
We should set a clear goal and watch our money grow. If we wish to own a new bicycle but can’t afford it, we can save our pocket money. How? Write down how much money we have in a notebook and watch it grow. After we have enough, we can buy that wonderful bicycle we’ve dreamed about! Reaching our goal will greatly satiate us.
We can talk with our parents about how money is used and where money goes. Do you know what a bank account is? If not, communicate with our parents. We can also go to the supermarket with our parents to experience how money is spent in the real world.

※ The science of hunger
If you’ve ever been “hungry”— that is so hungry that it makes you angry—you’ll be happy to learn that scientists have begun studying the causes of this unpleasant condition and recommending (推荐) fixes.
Researchers from the University of North Carolina asked some people of hunger to write a story about either their feelings or their daily lives while others not. After a stress (精神压力) experiment, it turned out that people who had written stories about feelings (and were therefore focused on these feelings) felt less stressed or angry, even if they were hungry.
The main point: Realizing how you feel reduces the chance that hunger will influence your feelings. Mindfulness training can help with that. Of course, if you’ re hungry, eating also helps.※A photo a day keeps the doctor away
Taking a photograph each day and sharing it online is a popular hobby. To find out how this habit influences health, British scientists did research by interviewing the creators of online photo journals. They discovered that daily photography improved interviewees’ lives in several ways: It made them consider the present, it pushed them to go for walks to get their photos, and it gave them chances to communicate with folks who share their interests. Moreover, it may help some fight against loneliness.
“I’ll stop and take a photograph of this insect sitting on my computer or something. Just taking a moment is very good and beautiful I think,” one participant says.

Passage 15(山东省临沂市兰陵县2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )
Have you ever wondered why birds sing? Maybe you thought that they were just happy. After all, you probably sing when you are happy.
Some scientists believe that birds do sing some of the time just because they are happy. However, they sing most of the time for a very different reason. Their singing is actually a warning to other birds to stay out of their territory.
Do you know what a “territory” is? A territory is an area that an animal, usually the male (雄性) animal, considers as its own. Only he and his family are welcome there. No other families of the same species (物种) are welcome. Your yard and house are your territory where only your family and friends are welcome. If a stranger should enter your territory and frighten you, you might shout. Probably this would be enough to frighten him away.
If so, you have actually scared the stranger away without having to fight him. A bird does the same thing. But he expects an outsider almost any time, especially at nesting (筑巢) season. So he is screaming all the time, whether he can see an outsider or not. This screaming is what we call a bird’s song, and it is usually enough to keep an outsider away.
Birds sing loudest in spring when they are trying to attract a mate and warn others not to enter the territory of theirs.
You can see that birds have a language of their own. Most of it has to do with attracting (吸引) mates and setting up territories.

Passage 1(山东省枣庄市薛城区2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )
Have you ever imagined being able to communicate with your pet at home and let them understand everything you say? It sounds too good to be true, but scientists have started using artificial intelligence (AI) to help communicate with animals.
AI allows humans to use technology to watch and understand the sounds and signals (信号) animals use so we can try to speak back to them.
Professor Karen Bakker said that AI is already helping humans communicate with bats (蝙蝠) and bees. This could change what we know about nature and our non-human relationships.
Bakker said AI helped decode (解码) recordings of animals talking to one another. She said trying to communicate in their language could be better than to teach them to use human sign language.
Bakker explained how scientist Yossi Yoyel had used recordings and AI to understand bats. “Bats argue over food; they communicate differently between genders (性别) ; they have their names or ‘signature calls’,” she said. “But unlike human mothers who raise their voices when talking to babies, mother bats lower the voice.” A computer can be trained to listen like a bat, but this can never be done with the human ear.
With bees, the computer both listens and watches the bees’ body movement to understand what they are communicating. “When bees ‘speak’ to one another, they use body movements, as well as the sounds, to communicate,” Bakker said. She said scientists now know how bees say things such as “hush (be quiet)” or “stop”.
Scientist Tim Landgraf even created a robot bee that entered a hive (蜂巢) and it was able to communicate to other bees when it wanted them to stop doing something or fly.
So, are you looking forward to communicating with animals one day?

D.Scientists have made a real bee to communicate with other bees.
Passage 2(山东省临沂市平邑县2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )
① Elton John once sang: “Sorry seems to be the hardest word.” But in Canada, there aren’t many words that are more easily or commonly spoken like sorry. Or, that’s the way it seems, say visitors to the country. And it’s something that Canadians admit themselves.
②Canadians apologize for coming to work early, for driving past a car on a street, for feeding you more than they should and sometimes to even themselves! Then why do Canadians apologize so much, even when they don’t need to?
③It’s part of Canadian culture, say some people. That doesn’t mean other cultures are less polite. But saying sorry does at least show you’re trying to be nice—and many people think Canada is a polite country, so its citizens may be trying to protect that idea.
④ For many Canadians, apologizing has become something they do without thinking. Even if someone walks into a Canadian in the street and the Canadian isn’t at fault, the Canadian is likely to say sorry. It could be a way to avoid conflict (冲突)—it’s often easier to say sorry than to shout at someone and have a fight.
⑤ But when Canadians say sorry, that doesn’t always mean they’re really sorry. Sometimes it means they realize that something bad has happened, but not saying they think it’s their fault.
⑥ That idea is even in Canadian law. For example, the Apology Act in the province of Ontario says that making an apology does not mean you’re admitting you’ re at fault.
⑦So how do Canadians apologize and mean it? A study found that only 62% of Canadians actually think “I am sorry” is a good apology. Instead, 80% think “I sincerely apologize” is the best thing to say.
4.Why is Elton John’s song mentioned in Paragraph 1?
A.To introduce the topic.
B.To show the singer was wrong.
C.To make the readers think deeply.
5.Which paragraphs tell the deep reasons behind the Canadian Sorry?
A.①② B.②③ C.③④
6.What does the Apology Act in Ontario say about making an apology?
A.It doesn’t mean you admit you’re wrong.
B.It should be accepted by law.
C.It can be used to avoid risk.
7.In which part of a magazine can we probably read the passage?
A.Travel. B.Culture. C.History.
Passage 3(山东省聊城市阳谷四校2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )
In 1826, a Frenchman named Niepce needed pictures for his business. But he was not a good artist. So he invented a very simple camera. He put it in a window of his house and took a picture of his garden. That was the first photo.
The next important date in the history of photography (摄影) was in 1837. That year, Daguerre, another Frenchman, took a picture of his reading room. He used a new kind of camera in a different way. In his picture you could see everything very clearly, even the smallest thing. This kind of photo was called a daguerreotype. Soon, other people began to use the way. Travelers brought back wonderful photos from all around the world. People took pictures of famous buildings, cities and mountains.
In about 1840, photography was developed. Then photographers could take pictures of people and moving things. That was not simple. The photographers had to carry a lot of film and other machines. But this did not stop them. For example, some in the United States worked so hard. Mathew Brady was a famous American photographer. He took many pictures of great people. The pictures were unusual because they were very lifelike (栩栩如生的) .

Passage 4(山东省聊城市阳谷四校2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )
Most of us spend all day at school or work. After a long and busy day, all we want to do is return to a comfortable home. Smart technology can turn any home into a nice place to live.
Smart homes have been around for some time. Scottish company Pico Electronics invented a type of technology called X10 in 1975. It allows household devices (家用设备), such as lights and alarms, to communicate with each other by using radio waves (无线电波), according to AVSystemsMag, a specialized magazine in the audiovisual (AV,视听的) and automation industry.
Of course, 5G network connectivity has made smart homes much more sophisticated (复杂的巧妙) than X10. Perhaps the most widespread smart home technology is the voice-activated assistant (语音激活助手). Google Home and Amazon’s Alexa allow users to interact with nearly any device in their home simply by speaking a few words. This is especially convenient for children and people with physical disabilities, as they can finish tasks that would normally be too difficult, according to How-To Geek.
Common household appliances (家用电器) can become “smart” as well. For example, a smart trash bin can keep track of the things you’ve thrown away and place an online order for new items, while smart refrigerators can create dinner recipes (菜谱) based on the vegetables that are being kept inside, according to HowStuffWorks.
But it’s not just about convenience. Smart homes are also good for the environment. By regularly checking your energy use and automatically (自动地) turning off lights and other devices that you’re not using, smart homes can lower so much electricity you use overall. Using less energy means that we use fewer natural resources, which is good for the environment.
13.X10 technology allows household devices to communicate by ________.
A.using lights B.using voices
C.using radio waves D.connecting to the 5G network
14.What is Paragraph 3 mainly about?

Passage 5(山东省济南市2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )
Scientists at Stanford University have found a way to make the skin (皮肤) of living mice turn clear by rubbing (擦) a common yellow food dye (染料) called tartrazine (柠檬黄) on the mouse’s skin. The discovery could one day help doctors see inside human bodies without cutting them open.
The scientists mixed tartrazine with water to make the liquid. When they tested this mixture on very thin slices of chicken, the chicken began to turn clear. Next, the researchers decided to try the coloring on the skin of living mice. First they got the hair out of the way. Then, they rubbed the liquid on the skin of the mice. In just a few minutes, the skin of the mice became see-through. Using the liquid, the scientists were able to see inside a mouse’s brain. When the liquid was washed off, the skin returned to normal.
To understand how the new discovery works, it’s helpful to think about how light travels through different materials. Light travels in a straight line, unless it runs into something. Then, it usually bends (弯曲). Glass is easy to see through because light only takes a slight bend when it goes through the glass. But skin isn’t like glass. Skin is made of many different parts, like water, fat and so on. These different materials make it hard to see through skin. Tartrazine makes the watery parts of the skin more like the other areas. When the light mostly bends the same way, the skin becomes see-through.
Guosong Hong, one of the leaders of the research, says that if something similar could be made to work on humans, it could lead to exciting medical development. The scientists say more work needs to be done before a similar method can be used on humans. The dye only works on thin skin, and human skin is much thicker than the skin of mice.
18.What did the scientists find at Stanford University?
A.A way to treat skin problems. B.A way to make the mice grow quickly.
C.A way to help doctors cut human bodies open. D.A way to make the skin of living mice become clear.

On a sunny day, hundreds of volunteers arrived at the Yangtze River in Yichang, Hubei province.
The workers on board of a special ship nearby was about to release about 230,000 Chinese sturgeons (中华鲟) back into the waterway, where the fish naturally lay theır eggs.
The event’s organizer, the CTGC (China Three Gorges Corporation), also supports a research center to make sure such releases are successful.
Set up in 1982, the center’s job is to monitor the level of biodiversity (生物多样性) in the waters near the dam, the world’s largest hydropower facility (水力发电设备).
The sturgeon-releasing event was part, of a long-running effort to protect the Yangtze River’s ecosystem.
The Chinese sturgeon is known for its hard, protective scale (鳞甲). People call it a “living fossil” (活化石) because its long history and physical characteristics which have remained almost unchanged over millions of years.
But sadly, because of overfishing, pollution, and the effects of dam, the wild sturgeon population in China has dropped to dangerously low levels. In response, people have held more release events and put more effort into breeding (繁殖) more of the fish.
These release events are easier said than done, however. In the early days, the survival rate of freed sturgeons was quite low. Jiang Wei, an engineer at the research center, said that in 1985 the people who did this job before him started to study how to breed sturgeon, but there weren’t any books or information about it at that time.
Over the next 10 years, they found the key factors affecting the well-being of young fish, such as food, water temperature and quality, and did experiments to prevent diseases. “By 1995, the body length of the released fish had reached more than 30 centimeters, and more of them survived in the wild.” said Jiang.
Thanks to their continued efforts,21 million endangered fish have been released into the Yangtze since the CTGC was set up about 30 years ago, according to data provided by the organization. This is a great achievement in protecting the river’s weak ecosystem.

②The production process, which dates back more than 3,000 years, must go through at least five steps. The newly made vinegar has a light color, but as the years go by, it becomes thick and dark. The aging process lasts at least one year, which is where the name “aged vinegar” comes from.
③To this day, the work is still mostly done by hand. Inside a local workshop in Qingxu, which is built in an ancient style, workers dressed in Ming Dynasty clothing are busy performing traditional vinegar brewing tasks. “They are not actors, but real workers,” says Mr Zhang, manager of the workshop. “With the rapid development of our company, our customers have shown increasing interest in knowing how the aged vinegar is made, as well as its cultural background.”
④To meet high standards, new machines and technology have been added to the production process. In the workshop, 190 fermentation tanks (发酵罐) are lined up like soldiers. “Both fermentation and smoking (熏) tasks can be achieved without human help. We even use 5G technology for digital control,” Mr Zhang adds. “While the vinegar is fermented by machine, it still goes through the traditional aging process, so its taste remains unchanged.”
⑤Still, in recent years, the vinegar industry in Qingxu has been adapting (适应) to the times. While it continues its tradition, it has welcomed new ideas, such as ice cream with vinegar and tangyuan with vinegar fillings.

Passage 13(山东省烟台市芝罘区2024-2025学年九年级上期末 )
What color of wearing do you like? Do you know “dopamine dressing (多巴胺穿搭)”? It’s one of the most talked-about fashion trends (趋势) for 2023. However, is there any science behind this?
“Dopamine dressing” came out from the book Dress Your Best Life. American fashion psychologist (心理学家), Dawnn Karen wrote this book in 2020. In the book, dopamine dressing is about wearing colorful clothing to get more dopamine.
Dopamine is a chemical in our brain. This kind of chemical makes people feel good. Our brain gives it out when we eat delicious food, play with our pets, listen to our favorite songs, after we exercise or when we win a game.
According to Science Focus Magazine, there are studies that show a relationship between the colors of the clothes we wear and how we act and feel. One study found that wearing red can bring better physical performance. It also showed that bright colors can make people feel active. One more study showed that wearing green can help people relax because it is the color of nature. Yellow, the color of summer and warmth, can bring people happiness. But there are some problems with these studies, as people from different cultures have different ideas about dressing and colors.
In a word, “dopamine dressing” shows that we can wear colorful clothes to get more dopamine and feel good. Dressing is more than just a trend. It’s also a way of showing ourselves. So, next time you’re getting dressed, think about which colors will bring out yourself best.

Passage 14(山东省烟台市芝罘区2024-2025学年九年级上期末 )
Manners are very important in our daily life. There are many different customs and habits among different countries. We must find out and follow their customs so that they will not think us ill-mannered. Here are examples of the things that a person with good education does or does not do. A person with good manners is always popular, but it is troublesome to a person with bad manners.
If you visit a Chinese family, you should knock at the door first. When the door opens, you will not move before the host says “Come in, please.” After you enter the room, you would not sit down until the host asks you to take a seat. When a cup of tea is put on the tea table before you or sent to your hand, you should say “Thank you” and receive it with two hands, not one hand, or they will think you are ill-mannered. Before entering a house in Japan, it is good manners to take off your shoes. In European countries, even though shoes sometimes become very dirty, this is not done. In a Malay house, a visitor never finishes the food on the table. He leaves a little to show that he has had enough. In England, a visitor always finishes the drink or the food to show that he has enjoyed it. The host will be pleased with that.
You have to give your present in public in the Middle East to show it is not a bribe (贿赂). But it’s good manners to give your present in private in Asia. You mustn’t give knives in Latin America because it suggests that you want to cut off the relationship. You mustn’t give your food or drink to Arabia because it suggests that you think your host isn’t offering you enough to eat and drink.
“Come any time” means “I want you to visit me” in India. If you don’t suggest a time at once, the India will think you are refusing the invitation. But if English people say “Come any time”, they will think you are impolite if you start fixing (确定) a date.
58.It is important to learn that different countries and people have different manners because ________.
A.we can eat and drink well
B.we can know what to follow when we go to other countries
C.we can be taught some good examples
D.we won’t be afraid of people in those countries
59.In China, you shouldn’t ________ before the host says “Come in, please”.
A.knock at the door B.run away
C.come into the room D.open the door
60.In a Malay house, a guest leaves a little food to show that ________.
A.he has enjoyed it B.he doesn’t like the food
C.he needs some drink D.he can’t eat any more
61.Which is TRUE according to the passage?
A.It’s good manners to give presents in public in China.
B.It’s good manners to give knives in Latin America.
C.It’s good manners to give some food to Arabia.
D.If English people say “Come any time”, it’s just a lip service (客套话).
Passage 15(山东省烟台市芝罘区2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )
New rules and behavior standards for middle school students came out in March. The middle school is going to use a new way to decide who the top students are. The best students won’t only have high marks. They should not dye (染) their hair, smoke or drink because they are students. The following are some of the new rules.
Have you ever copied someone else’s work in an exam? Don’t do that again! That’s not something an honest student should do.
Do more at school. Good students love animals and care for other people. April is Bird-loving Month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate it? You should join! And you can learn more about animals and how to protect them. Be friendly to the people around you. Try to think of others, not only yourself.
Be open to new ideas. Do you think people can live on the moon? Maybe you’ll find another earth someday. Don’t look down on new ideas. Everyone’s ideas are important. You should welcome them, because new ideas make life better for everyone.
Protect yourself. Has someone ever taken money from one of your classmates? Don’t let it happen to you. If you have to go home late, you should let your parents know.
Use the Internet carefully. The Internet can be very useful for students. But some things on the Internet aren’t for children, so try to look at web pages that are good for you.

Passage 17(山东省菏泽市成武县2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )
Gordon Hempton is an ecologist (生态学家). He has spent more than 40 years studying natural sounds and saving quiet. Why save quiet?
Today, man-made noise seems to be everywhere. It keeps us away from natural sounds and is bad for our health. However, quiet helps us a lot. Like nature, it helps us find peace in our minds. But the number of naturally quiet places is going down quickly.
Hempton became interested in natural sounds many years ago. One day, he was driving and got tired. So he stopped his car and found a place to rest. Then the rain poured down, and Hempton stayed and listened. “I stayed away from all man-made noise then and only heard the rain and animals making sounds,” he said. “I was surprised.”
In the following years, Hempton tried to find naturally quiet places and record natural sounds. In 2005, he found a dream place in a forest park. He did a lot to keep the quiet there. However, in 2018, man-made noise finally broke it. This made him realize that man-made noise breaks not only the quiet of this place but also that of the world. So, he started the Quiet Parks International (QPI) in the same year. He wanted more people to take action to save quiet.
Now, Hempton and his team are busy saving quiet. Thanks to them, we can hear some of the world’s finest recordings of natural sounds and keep some best quiet places.

Passage 18(山东省青岛市崂山区2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )
As we grow older, we may forget things we once knew. However, according to a new study, the music we have listened to may stay with us forever.
The study was led by Sarah Sauve, a music scientist at the University of Lincoln in the UK. She found around 120 healthy adults aged from 18 to 86 and asked them to listen to three parts of music taken from musical pieces to be performed at a concert. They then attended the concert and made notes whenever they heard those parts playing.
The results showed that everyone, no matter how old they were, recognized the music parts equally well. Scientists believe that this is because music turns on the amygdala (杏仁体).
“We know from general memory research that the amygdala operates a little bit like an importance stamp.” Steffen Herff, a scientist at the University of Sydney in Australia, told Nature. In other words, the brain considers music as something so important that it must be stored safely for a long time.
Musical memories are also kept from being influenced by time by other parts of the brain. For example, the cortex (大脑皮层) responsible for movement responds to a song’s rhythm (节奏), while the cortex responsible for hearing processes the pitch (音调). In other words, music has the power to “light up” the whole brain, said Science Daily.
Therefore, music can be used to “unlock memories” in patients suffering from neural disorders (神经系统疾病), said Assal Habibi, a researcher at the University of Southern California in the US, in an interview with the university. Habibi is trying to help patients with Alzheimer’s disease (阿尔茨海默症) reconnect to their “sense of self” by music.
“When you hear nostalgic (怀旧的) music, there’s activity all over your brain, but most particularly in the part that is normally active when we' re daydreaming. It is also active when we are thinking about our own stories.” said Habibi.
73.What’s the focus of the study led by Sarah Sauve?
A.How memories change with age. B.The advantages of listening to music.
C.How age influences musical memories. D.The role of the amygdala in the brain.
74.Why does music stay in our memory according to the study?
A.Because it’s easy and great to sing along to.
B.Because it’s connected with strong feelings.
C.Because it’s played by musicians at concerts.
D.Because the brain treats it as something important.
75.How does music influence the brain according to the passage?
A.It only activates the amygdala. B.It is kept from the cortex activity.
C.It can “light up” the whole brain. D.It has no influence on brain activity.
76.What is Assal Habibi’s goal in using music with Alzheimer’s patients?
A.To improve their musical skills. B.To help them remember their past.
C.To reconnect them to their “sense of self”. D.To sense their Alzheimer’s disease.
77.What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.Music has a lasting influence on memory. B.Music can be useful to wake up the brain.
C.Music provides a form of communication. D.Music causes people to dream about their past.
Passage 19(山东省菏泽市鄄城县2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )
Different weather makes people feel different. It influences health, intelligence (智力) and feelings.
In August, it is very hot and wet in the southern part of the United States. People there have heart trouble and other kinds of health problems during this month. In the Northeast and the Middle West, it is very hot at some times and very cold at other times, people in these states have more heart trouble after the weather changes in February or March.
The weather can also influence intelligence. For example, in a 198 report by scientists, the IQ (智商)of a group of students was very high when a very strong wind came, but after the strong wind, their IQ was 10% lower. The wind can help people have more intelligence. Very hot weather, on the other hand, can make it lower. Students in many schools of the United States often get worse on exams in the hot months of the year (July and August).
Weather also has a strong influence on people’s feelings. Winter may be a bad time for thin people. They usually feel cold during these months. They might feel unhappy during cold weather. But fat people may have a hard time in hot summer. At about 18℃, people become stronger.
Low air pressure may make people forgetful. People leave more bags on buses and in shops on low-pressure days. People feel best at a temperature of about 18℃. Are you feeling sad, tired, forgetful, or unhappy today? It may be the weather’s problem.
78.What can cause problems in health according to the passage?
A.Very hot and wet weather. B.February or March. C.Low air pressure.
79.A report shows that people may have more intelligence when ________ comes.
A.August B.A very strong wind C.winter
80.What does the writer want to tell us in Paragraph 3?
A.weather influences people’s behavior
B.People feel good on low-pressure days
C.IQ changes when the weather changes
81.What is the basic structure of this passage? (Paragraph 1—①, Paragraph 2—②,…)
A. B. C.

Passage 8(山东省泰安市新泰市2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )

Passage 9(山东省济南市钢城区2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )

Passage 12(山东省菏泽市定陶区2024-2025学年九年级上学期期末 )
“Made in China” is having its moment now—and it’s a fashionable one.
The story of Chinese fashion began in 2011 when Feiyue and Huili, both Chinese sports shoe brands (品牌), suddenly got international attention. Their products were seen all over the world. Chinese sportswear brand Li Ning was at the New York Fashion Week in September, 2018. They showed their new designs—sweaters and jackets with Chinese characters.
Shun Rein, managing director of China Market Research Group, said that the latest Chinese brands no longer catch customers’ eye by low price. He told CNN, “They are sure that they can go head to head with foreign brands.”
Maybe it is because China’s young people are now more confident about their own culture. They don’t show immediate interest in western culture any more.
“Today’s young people in China are crazy about Chinese cultural elements (元素),” Jin Qu, the manager of a clothing shopping website, said at a cultural festival in 2018. They like these elements printed on their clothes, even the brand picture of Laoganma in China, which was once seen as outside of fashion. But now young people are proud of these Chinese symbols.
“In fact, many stars in the West are now interested in Chinese cultural elements in fashion. Rihanna, a US singer, for example, wore a Chinese red dress to the 2015 Met gale in New York. The dress was designed and made by Chinese designer Guo Pei.
“We have to move from making to creating,” Chinese-American designer Aric Chen once told The New York Times. “We want to replace the words ‘Made in China’ with ‘Designed in China’.”

A.It doesn’t mean you admit you’re wrong.
B.It should be accepted by law.
C.It can be used to avoid risk.

①Could you imagine being in a car driven by a computer, not a human? Recently, China has made a big step toward self-driving technology. Since August, driverless taxis can run on roads in Wuhan, Chongqing and Shenzhen.
②Why do we develop self-driving cars? Self-driving cars have many advantages. They use computers to sense the things around them and make better use of space. This means fewer crowded roads and better parking of cars. For disabled or blind people, self-driving cars can also help them get around more easily.
③According to US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, each year, more than 1.35 million people are killed on roads around the world. Many more are hurt in accidents. Self driving cars could reduce road accidents by 90 percent and save governments a lot of money. The main cause of car accidents is human error (错误). By using computers, self-driving cars don’t make poor decisions or lose attention like humans do.
④But self-driving cars aren’t perfect. If something unexpected on the road happens, self-driving cars can’t react as fast as a human driver can. Also, during weather events like heavy snow, self-driving cars wouldn’t see the lines on the road easily. It might lead to an accident. The car’s computer system would be broken by someone, causing it to crash or change its direction.
