Tim’s life was forever changed when a new teacher, Miss Green, brought magic and encouragement to his classroom, inspiring him and his classmates to believe in themselves and enjoy the joy of learning.
One sunny morning, as Tim walked into his classroom, he noticed a woman he had never seen before standing near the blackboard. She had a warm smile and kind eyes. Tim couldn’t wait to find out more about their new teacher. The bell rang and all the students took their seats. The new teacher introduced herself as Miss Green. She had a gentle voice that soon made everyone feel relaxed. Tim was happy to have her as his teacher and was eager to see what exciting adventures were waiting for them in the classroom.
As the days went by, Tim realized that Miss Green had a magical way of making learning fun and exciting. Each lesson was filled with interactive activities, hands-on experiments, and interesting stories. One day, during a science class, Miss Green brought in a big box filled with colorful liquids (液体) and mysterious objects. She told the class they were going to create their own volcanoes. Tim’s eyes lit up with excitement as he mixed all the things and watched as the volcano erupted (喷发) with a loud sound. It was a magical experience.
In a math class, Miss Green turned numbers into games. She made math problems seem like challenges to deal with, and before long, Tim and his classmates were eagerly raising their hands to answer the challenging questions. Miss Green not only made learning fun, but she also had a special talent for encouraging her students. She believed in their abilities and always reminded them that they could achieve anything they set their minds to and persevere (坚持不懈) with.
During an art class, Tim struggled to paint a picture of a tree. He wanted to give up.

Passage 2
(24-25高一上·湖北·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I was born small, which often left me feeling unconfident. During my second year of high school, my family moved to a different city. Getting used to life as a new kid has always been difficult for me, and this move made it more challenging. In my new school, I felt physically and mentally uneasy. Other students had already built friendships, leaving me without a friend.
Besides, I found English learning boring and didn’t know what to do during English classes. So, I spent my free time drawing because that was what I usually did when I was alone.
I still recall the first day in the school dining hall. While waiting in line for food, I heard a group of students excitedly discussing an upcoming English drama show for freshmen. As I passed by, they glanced at me with surprise. “He looks so small,” someone said in a low voice. My face burned with embarrassment and I bent my head. Pretending not to hear them, I slipped into the farthest seat available and had my meal alone.
In my first English class, I sat at my desk, staring blankly at the book. The letters and words seemed to dance confusingly across the page and laugh at me. Losing interest quickly, I began drawing on the book. A few minutes later, my English teacher, Mr. Frank — a kind man — walked up to me.
“Nice drawing,” he said gently. “You know, language is also an art form; it carries its own charm (魅力) and beauty. I believe you could find English attractive if you discover whereto begin.”

Passage 3
(24-25高一上·河南开封·期末)阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段; 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was my first day at a new school in England because my family had moved here from Wales a week before. The moment I stepped through the big iron gates, a feeling of worry came over me. The large campus, with its old buildings covered in ivy and very neatly cut lawns, was really beautiful, but it just made me more nervous. I held my books tightly, and my hands started to sweat as the unfamiliar faces and the strange accents surrounded me like a thick fog that I couldn’t get through. I felt like a lonely traveler in a strange place, really wanting to see something familiar.
Along the way, I accidentally knocked into a boy. “Sorry, ”I said quietly, my eyes quickly looking down at the ground because I was too shy to look at him. “No problem,” he answered with a warm and real smile that cut through my uneasiness like a bright light. In that short talk, a little hope started to shine inside me; maybe this new place wouldn’t be the scary maze (迷宫) I was afraid of.
When I entered the classroom, the teacher introduced me to the class. I could feel everyone looking at me, and my cheeks turned bright red, as if they were on fire. I quickly sat down, and my heart was beating so hard that it seemed like the whole room could hear it. Would I be able to make friends? Could I do well in the classes? These questions kept bothering me all the time. The bell rang for the first break, and I walked slowly and nervously to the schoolyard, my steps as careful as a baby deer’s first steps in the woods. I looked around, partly hoping to see a friendly face, but also afraid of being refused.

Baraka sat quietly in his new classroom. He was a boy who had moved from Tanzania to Chicago with his family. His heart was heavy with homesickness. The laughter and soccer games of his homeland felt like a distant dream, and in this new land, Baraka found himself unhappy. And he didn’t want to play with the other kids or join any after-school activities.
Miss Garcia, his teacher, noticed Baraka’s sadness. She saw how he kept to himself during lunch and didn’t join in class activities. Miss Garcia decided to talk to Baraka’s parents to understand why he was in such low spirits. Miss Garcia invited Baraka’s parents for a cup of tea. “Baraka seems to be struggling to adapt,” she said, her voice filled with concern. “He seems to be quite lonely.”
Baraka’s parents shared their worries. “We moved here for work,” they explained. “We thought it would be an adventure for him, but Baraka feels like he’s lost his friends and his home.” Miss Garcia knew she had to do something special for Baraka. She wanted to give him a gift that would show him he wasn’t alone and that his past was still a part of him.
On Baraka’s birthday, Miss Garcia had a surprise for him. “Today, we celebrate not just a birthday, but a journey,” she announced to the class. “We have a special gift for Baraka.” The lights in the classroom dimmed (变暗), and a video began to play. It was a travel video of Tanzania, the land Baraka missed so much. Baraka’s eyes lit up as he saw the familiar scenes of his homeland.

Passage 1
(24-25高一上·河北唐山·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
My little brother, Daniel, was born with an illness that affected his lungs (肺),for which he had to receive special breathing treatments every morning. Despite his physical condition, Daniel enjoyed kayaking(单人划船) and was surprisingly good at it. I, his older brother, always made it my business to keep a close eye on him. Every time he went kayaking, I would keep him company.
Now the kayaks, life jackets and paddles (桨) were ready. I just had to wait for him to finish his morning treatment. I thought I was like Daniel’s guardian angel(守护天使),though he probably didn’t know it.
“All done!” Daniel called, opening the door. “Kayaks ready to go?” “Of course.”
“I’m going kayaking with David,” he called to Mom and Dad. “Okay, be careful and return soon,” Mom replied.
Daniel happily headed to the shore, and I followed him with a smile. We climbed into our seats, put on our life jackets and then started rowing our kayaks out into the sea. The paddles cut easily through the water and we rowed perfectly. We were enjoying the sunny, clear day with a gentle wind when suddenly the sky turned cloudy and the wind picked up. Waves crashed into the rocks, making our kayaks rise and fall. I looked back at Daniel to make sure he was okay. He showed me an “OK” sign with his hand.
The wind became stronger and the waves pushed me close to a big rock. I paddled fast to keep my distance but failed. I was headed right for the rock! I was thrown into the water. Everywhere I looked, there was nothing but water. It felt like a long time before my head broke the surface. Help me! The water closed over my head again. I’ll die. I thought. When I broke the surface again, “Daniel!” I shouted. “Help me!”Daniel was already on his way, paddling as fast as he could to save me.

Daniel and I finally returned to the shore in Daniel’s kayak and went back home.

Passage 2
(24-25高一上·河南商丘·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
On a usual Saturday evening, Mr. Olivia and his wife were preparing their famous lasagna (千层面), a family tradition passed down through generations. The kitchen was a place for activity, with the children, the 4-year-old Emma and the 12-year-old Jake, helping out to the best of their abilities.
Emma was mixing the sauce (酱汁), her small arms working slowly and carefully, while Jake was tasked with cutting the cheese, a job he took with great pride. Mr. Olivia usually was at the table, rolling out the dough (面团) with the help of his wife. The family was busy with their yearly tradition of making lasagna together, a time that brought them closer and allowed them to share stories and laughter.
As the night went on, the conversation turned to the week’s events. Emma talked about her wins at school, and Jake talked about his recent soccer game. Their parents listened patiently, offering words of encouragement and advice.
Just when everyone felt in harmony, Emma looked over at Jake with a curious eye. She wanted to try Jake’s job of cutting the cheese, but he didn’t agree. He thought Emma was too little for such a big task. They started arguing back and forth, their voices getting louder. During the disagreement, they accidentally knocked over the sauce, and it poured all over the kitchen floor.

Passage 3
(24-25高一上·山西·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I used to think my parents didn’t care about me. They never said much about my grades, didn’t come to my soccer games, and seemed more absorbed in their own world than in mine. At dinner, they’d talk about work or bills while I sat in silence, looking at my food. When I tried to tell them about my day, their eyes would turn glassy, like they were listening out of politeness rather than interest. I stopped trying after a while. I was confused, “What’s the point?”
I spent most of my time in my room, watching videos on my phone or playing video games. My friends seemed to have it better — parents who showed up to events, gave hugs, and said “I’m proud of you.” Mine? They were just…there. Providers of food and shelter, nothing more.
Then everything changed one rainy Thursday.
I was walking home from school, listening to my favorite music on my earphones, and not hearing anything else around me. I didn’t notice a car speeding toward the crossroads until it was too late. The driver must have lost control on the wet road. I stayed completely still and quiet, like a deer in headlights. What I remember next was the sudden crash, the loud noise of brakes, and then darkness.
When I woke up, I was in a hospital bed. My left arm was in a cast (石膏), and my ribs (肋骨) ached every time I breathed. A nurse was adjusting the IV drip (静脉滴注), and when she saw my eyes open, she smiled. “You’re lucky, kid,” she said. “Your parents have been here all night.”
At first, I thought she had the wrong room. My parents? Spending the night in a hospital for me? But then I saw them — Mom sitting in the corner with her head resting on Dad’s shoulder, both of them looking very tired. When Mom noticed I was awake, her face lit up, and she rushed to me.

Passage 4
(24-25高一上·江西·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
I had a scheduled surgery around the holidays, so my family helped get the house ready for Christmas. In no time at all, the tree was standing with lights and ribbon in place, awaiting the decorations. My husband brought out my carefully stored box. This ordinary box doesn’t look like anything special from the outside, but the inside is filled with treasures from years gone by.
Ever since my kids were small, I would gather them around the tree and tell them the story behind each decoration as they picked a special place to hang it. They were all teenagers with busy work and sports schedules now, but I still wanted to hold tight to our family tradition and decorate the tree together. It took three ridiculously long weeks for that day to come around. When did this get so difficult to arrange? With eager expectation, I got everything out, put on the Christmas music, got the hot chocolate ready, and plugged in all the twinkly lights.
Just as I was ready to call everyone in, our youngest son said basketball practice got moved up. My daughter texted that she might have to stay late at work. And, of course, one of our kids came home not feeling well.
I turned off the music while everyone scattered (分散). I was sad that our plans fell apart after waiting for so long to pull them together. As I was eating my dinner filled with sense of loss, I heard a ping on my phone. My son texted that practice was cut short due to incoming snow. Ping! My daughter was on her way home from work. I called my oldest son at the gym, and he said he’d cut his workout short and head back. That night everyone would be home within the hour. I felt we would have the chance to carry out our practice. After eating together happily, I announced to the family that we would begin our practice.

Passage 5
(24-25高一上·河南濮阳·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was fourteen years old, my dad suggested our family pack up and drive 500 miles north to ring in the New Year’s holiday at our 600-square-foot lake cabin (小屋) in northern Michigan.
A few days after Christmas, mom, dad, my brother Dan and I piled into our red SUV and hit the road. Five hours into our trip, I imagined skiing, snowshoeing, ice skating, and sliding on the frozen lake! I also dreamed of a giant bonfire (篝火) by the lake and we dancing around it.
Suddenly, I came back to reality. Mom slammed on the brakes and our SUV began to fishtail on ice. We turned 180 degrees, then slid backward down the road 1,000 feet before coming to a quick stop in the middle. Our hearts raced as we realized how narrowly we had escaped crashing into the surrounding cars.
Soon thereafter, an officer approached our car to ask if we were okay. He told us the road up ahead was just as icy, so he instructed us to change into 4-wheel drive.
Several hours later, just as the sun was setting, we arrived at our happy place. We all jumped out of the car and ran to the cabin doorway. Dad stuck the key in the lock, but it wouldn’t turn. The lock was frozen.
With no year-round neighbors nearby, Mom and I drove to the local general store to find help while Dad and Dan continued to fight the lock. As luck would have it, this was a Sunday, so no worker would help us until morning. It was after 7:00 p.m. The store was closed, and the temperature was dropping fast; we needed a Plan B.Perhaps we could sleep in the car for the night. Mom opened the back window of the SUV to see how many blankets we had packed. But when she tried closing it, it wouldn’t move. So, there we were with a frozen open car window and a frozen (结冰) closed cabin door.

On a warm summer day, Alex and his best friend, Leo, decided to explore the suburbs of their small town. Armed with nothing but a backpack filled with snacks, water bottles, and a flashlight, they set off on their bikes.
As they cycled down a narrow dirt path, they noticed a small, barely noticeable opening hidden behind a thick group of bushes. Out of curiosity, they parked their bikes and carefully made their way through the bushes. What they discovered was a dark, mysterious cave entrance. The original excitement quickly turned to a bit of nervousness, but Alex looked at Leo and said, “We’ve always been longing for an adventure. Let’s do this!” Leo nodded, his eyes showing a mix of fear and determination.
They switched on the flashlight and stepped inside. The cave was filled with strange echoes and an muddy smell. As they explored deeper, they were fascinated by the beautiful, sparkling stalactites (钟乳石) hanging from the ceiling. But then, the flashlight started to flash on and off. Suddenly, they heard an awful sound. Leo grasped Alex’s arm nervously. It could have been a small animal, but in the dim it was hard to tell.
Just as they were trying to calm themselves, the flashlight became completely dead. Alex quickly reached into his backpack, his hands shaking slightly. He remembered packing an extra set of batteries but couldn’t find them at first. Meanwhile, Leo kept glancing around anxiously, his ears attempting to identify any other noises from all directions. Fortunately, Alex felt and found the batteries in the dark. To their relief, the flashlight lit up again. But now, they weren’t sure if they should continue deeper or turn back. After a brief hesitation, Alex said, “We’ve come this far. Let’s keep going. We’ll be more careful.” Leo nodded, and they moved on, hand in hand.

I loved going to school. But since May transferred from another school, the atmosphere had become a bit strange. Everyone thought her attitude was a bit tough. May was about five feet eight inches tall, making her the tallest kid in our fifth-grade class and, in fact, the whole school. She challenged the shy third graders and her competitive (好胜的) spirit in gym class put pressure on the boys.
To avoid unnecessary trouble, I always kept a certain distance from her. I hoped it could stay that way. But everything changed one morning when I came to class with a new hairstyle. It all started when my best friend Jamie said my hair looked nice. I felt happy. However, I noticed May’s serious look, which made me a bit nervous, but I continued focusing on my math work. Then, as May walked past me, she commented, “Nice braid (辫子).”
I felt a bit surprised. I looked at her, then felt worried because I saw May make a scissors-like motion (动作) with her fingers towards me. I got nervous and misunderstood, thinking that she wanted to cut off my braid. After thinking, I decided to hide in the restroom after school to avoid meeting May on the way home.
I did this for a few days, feeling anxious. One morning, my mom noticed my change. She could see the stress in my eyes and the way I hesitated (犹豫) before leaving for school. She knew something was bothering me. So she asked what had happened. I told her, “May wants to cut off my braid.” Tears started rolling down my cheeks. Mom held my hand and said, “Don’t be afraid, honey. You might have misunderstood May. She might just want to make friends with you but doesn’t know how to express it.

The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the distant sound of children playing. Their eyes met for a brief moment before they both bent down to pick up their pens. One day, Tom received a letter from Jerry. The letter said, “Dear Tom, I hope you can come and visit my art exhibition. I know you may not be interested in art, but I think you will like these works. They are all paintings I made during the days we spent together. I hope you can feel the friendship between us.”

I was home with my two young kids, when my mind started to wander. I was reflecting on my past and couldn’t help but think: Whatever happened to Kathy?
Kathy lived in a tiny Canadian town and she became my pen pal when I was 13. As a girl growing up in New Zealand, I was curious to learn more about the world and Kathy’s letters certainly showed me how different life could be in another country.
When I was 18, the letters had petered out(逐渐减少) and we lost contact. I’d gone on to marry my husband, Paul, and start a family, but the more I thought about it, the more I missed news of Kathy’s adventures. I decided to write to Kathy and knowing that her parents lived in such a small town, I addressed the letter to them and hoped for the best.
Three weeks later, my heart leapt when I got an envelope postmarked from Canada. “I recognized your handwriting straightaway,” Kathy wrote to me. It turned out that, like me, she’d also married but due to health problems, she was unable to have children. Her job as a nurse kept her busy and she enjoyed helping others.
Realizing how quickly life could change. I promised to keep writing to her no matter what. Her letters soon became a highlight for me, giving me the same excitement I’d felt as a 13-year-old.
One day, when Paul was using the saw(锯子) to cut some wood, a splinter(尖细条) flew into the center of my right eye and I lost my sight permanently. Paul felt terrible and while it was a huge blow(打击) for me, I tried to carry on as best I could. As we all know, it is difficult to start a friendship but it is even more difficult to keep one. Recently I’ve understood it better for I experienced both the pain of the potential of losing a close friend and the joy of regaining one.
In primary school, I was just an ordinary student, shy and a little awkward. However, Jenny was outgoing, confident and helpful, which made her popular among classmates. One day, when I felt upset for failure in an important Maths test, Jenny came to my aid, cheering me up, and we talked a lot. Since then, a close friendship has grown between us and she has been like a sister to me. Up to now, we have been good friends for eight years. We’re always together, walking to school, doing homework or just hanging out on weekends. Everyone will feel surprised if we’re not seen playing together. But last Saturday, what she did really made me feel heartbroken.
We intended to see a new film at the cinema that day, but in the morning she called me, saying she had a bad cold and wanted to rest at home instead of going out for a film. “Never mind, ”I told her. "We can watch the film when you’re better. ”
However, a horrible surprise hit me on the next Monday. A classmate told me she had seen Jenny chatting with another girl in a cafe on Saturday afternoon. Why did she cheat me?I exploded with anger and ignored her during school all day, without responding to her online messages. Actually, this stressful situation made me confused and sleepless in the night.

The couple spent a lot of time watching TV and going to different restaurants, and as you would imagine, the endless junk foods were their “go-to” choice. Though they would manage to lose some weight during the time, but before long, they would gain it back.
Lexi weighed a 485 pounds at the age of 25, a weight that was quite unbelievable to imagine. Danny, on the other hand, was also overweight himself even though he was 200 pounds less than Lexi. However, the sad part of everything was that they were both gaining more weight on what they already had with each passing day. Some of their daily activities, no matter how simple, became a real problem for the couple. They couldn’t go for walks or bicycle rides no matter how easy they were. However, in 2016 just after a year after the marriage, they decided to make a positive change in their life.
The couple decided to take on a challenge that would change their lives forever and for good! So many people make promises to themselves and others that they don’t really carry out but the couple were not about to do like the others. Theirs were destined (注定的) to come to reality. They made a detailed plan to go on a diet and take exercise on a daily basis. At first, they thought the whole process would have been a piece of cake. As they pressed on, each passing day showed them that this challenge would not be a walk in the park. They got a gym membership to help out.

A six-year-old Scottish girl has taken her first steps even though doctors said she would spend her life in a wheelchair. Arabella was born with arthrogryposis multiplex congenita (AMC, 先天性多发性关节挛缩症) affecting both her arms and legs, but when doctors in Scotland said there was nothing that could be done for Arabella, her mom Catherine refused to believe it and instead made it her mission to find a solution to help her daughter.
She reached out to Dr. David S Feldman, a famous doctor based in Florida who treats AMC with surgery (外科手术), and made an appointment with his team at the Paley European Institute in Warsaw, Poland. “We all agreed she is a great person for operation and can gain motion in her legs, which gave great hope to Arabella and her mom,” Dr, Feldman said. However, it needed a big amount of money for the operation, which the family couldn’t afford it.
When Catherine returned to Scotland to meet with some famous doctors, they said there was nothing that could be done and the surgery wasn’t suitable for Arabella. As a result, Catherine was a little disappointed. “They said we needed to be realistic and think about how we could improve Arabella’s life in a wheelchair,” Arabella’s father William said, “On hearing that, as any parents, it dashed (使破灭) our hopes so much...” For the next two months, the family was in a low spirit. William has been on a mission ever since to help his daughter walk again. He launched a crowd funding page to raise £125,000 for the surgery.
Arriving in October 2021 and remaining there over Christmas, Arabella underwent 12 weeks of careful rehabilitation and physiotherapy (康复理疗) with the dedicated nurses as she built up her muscles and learned to walk. In a story that fits a Hollywood script (剧本), two strange neighbors connected through music and formed an unusual bond by playing the piano together through a wall.
Giorgio Lo Porto is an Italian living in London, England. While he’s never met his neighbor, he knows his new neighbor is a pianist.
His curiosity sets off a series of online videos recording their growing friendship.
Lo Porto then says that he’s left a note telling his neighbor that he loved his music and included a request: Could you play “My Heart Will Go On?” As music starts playing in the background, he posts “I guess it’s a yes.”
In the next video, not only does Lo Porto play the piano, he’s also invited his neighbor to a duet (二重奏). Although he hasn’t played for a while, it appears that his relationship with his neighbor lights up his lost passion for the instrument (乐器).
In another video, Lo Porto begins playing “River Flows Through You,” and stops. At the very moment, his neighbor picks up where he left off.
And just like that, the two started a weekly duet “meet up,” as they played back and forth through the wall.
With every note, Lo Porto’s curiosity about his neighbor’s identity (身份) increased, until one day he took the leap to meet him.
With much expectation and thousands of fascinated online users, Lo Porto revealed (透漏) that he finally met his melodic neighbor.
“Well, today I have met my neighbor. It was better than expected. His name is Emil...” Lo Porto posted.
It turns out that Emil is a 87-year-old native of Poland who recently lost his wife to COVID.He was in between homes as he waited for his house to be sold.
As Lo Porto explained, Emil played the piano at 2 PM every weekend “because his wife loved it.” Playing it “keeps him closer to his wife and away from the painful reminder” of her absence. Lo Porto promised Emil that he would continue their duets till he moved out.

Passage 1
(24-25高一上·辽宁·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The announcement of the “Go Green” campaign brought a wave of joy that ran through the students. The room was filled with discussions and activity as soon as Miss Tina left the class. Everyone had ideas for the upcoming campaign.
The campaign invited the students to share their creativity through planning different activities at nearby places that had lost their beauty due to pollution and climate change. It required the students to participate in two groups. One group would work by the riverside and the other would revive a public garden.
Alena immediately expressed her interest in joining the former group. Asad joined the latter group with excitement.
On a bright Saturday morning, all the students, along with their teachers, excitedly reached their respective spots.
The riverbank had always been one of Alena’s favourite places. But the spot, once beautiful and peaceful, was now covered with litter. Plastic bags were floating on the river. There were dried plants by the riverside, and the biodiversity was almost destroyed. This left all the students in great sadness. However, they were inspired by the motivation of restoring the place’s charm, making it clean once more.
All the kids brainstormed ideas before starting on their work. The students organised a clean-up drive, wading (跋涉) along the banks and pulling the trash from the river with the help of nets with long poles. Colourful recycling bins along the riverside were set up, all labelled with “Reduce, Reuse, Recycle”. They also designed posters and warning signs, showing how plastic pollution was harmful for fish and other wildlife, and posted them along the riverbank at various places.
As for the other group, they selected the main city park, a popular public spot. But, over time, pollution had had a bad effect on the park and it had lost most of its greenery and there was litter everywhere.

(23-24高一上·四川南充·期末)阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was 16, my parents and I moved to a small town of Arizona. Since my parents were very busy at that time, my Aunt Julia often took care of me during their absence.
One rainy day, when Julia and I were heading toward home, I caught sight of an old lady wearing an orange jacket with a huge bag and a walking stick. Out of curiosity, I asked Julia, “Who is she? What is she doing with that huge bag?”
Julia caught a glimpse at her, then told me, “She is called Melinda. She has been collecting garbage with that huge garbage bag in the town for several years. Nobody knows why she’s been doing it. Maybe just for fun.” Hearing her words, I couldn’t help exclaiming, “Wow! It’s so strange! Why does she find it funny to collect garbage?”
Since that day, I had come across her for many times on my way home. She always carried the huge garbage bag whether it was rainy or sunny. Gradually, I didn’t find her strange for collecting garbage. Instead, I began to greet her with a smile.
Two years later, I was admitted to Chicago University. To my disappointment, I often saw trash on the lawn on campus. “Why should people litter everywhere? Who is responsible for the trash?” A few days later, it occurred to me that, since nobody took responsibility for it, why not collect trash myself? That way, I could walk past the lawn without feeling guilty.
Then, I took action. I always took a trash bag and collect trash on the lawn every time I walked past it. A few students also followed suit soon afterwards, keeping the school cleaner and prettier than before.
One day, an idea popped into my head when I finished collecting trash — maybe we could help make the city cleaner and prettier too! Despite the thought that collecting trash in front of so many people outside school was awkward, I knew it was the right thing to do. So I decided to give it a go.

【答案】 Miss Green noticed him in trouble and came over to him. “Tim, remember that every great artist starts with a piece of empty paper,” she said with an encouraging smile. “It’s okay to make mistakes. The important thing is to keep trying and believe in yourself.” Her words touching Tim’s heart, he decided to have another try. With Miss Green’s guidance and encouragement, he kept painting and soon created a beautiful picture. From that day forward, Tim realized the power of perseverance and the importance of believing in oneself.
As time went on, Tim and his classmates grew closer to Miss Green, and they decided to plan a surprise for her. They wrote sincere letters expressing their thanks and drew colorful pictures to show how much they appreciated her. They even made a special card filled with memories of their happy time together. On the last day of school, during their final class, Tim and his classmates presented their surprise to Miss Green. With tears of joy filling her eyes, she read the letters and admired the artwork. She hugged each of her students, telling them how proud she was of them.

【答案】 Encouraged by his words, I began to change my attitude towards English learning. I started to focus more attentively on English classes, following Mr. Frank’s instructions with great care. I discovered the charm of how individual letters could form meaningful words. Although the progress was slow, that slight improvement still brought me some hope. Mr. Frank was always ready to offer me guidance whenever necessary. Gradually, I developed a deep admiration for English. I became more active in speaking up and communicating with my classmates. This new-found enthusiasm made me more outgoing and open-minded, and I even made some new friends.
“Why don’t you draw a poster for the English drama show?” Mr. Frank said to me. Excited and nervous, I accepted. It was a good chance to contribute with my artistic skills. Over the next few days, I drew colorful posters combining text and pictures. The process helped me remember vocabulary and grammar points better. To my delight, Mr. Frank praised my work and selected one poster for the show. Seeing my artwork displayed in the school gave me a strong sense of belonging. Thanks to Mr. Frank’s encouragement and trust, I discovered the beauty of English and found the confidence to express myself.

【答案】 Standing alone in the corner of the schoolyard, I watched the other students chatting and laughing. The cold wind blew hard through the schoolyard, moving the leaves and making me tremble. I crouched closer to the corner, the cold stone wall against my back. Groups of students got together, their active conversations floating in the air, so different from my silence. Worries filled my mind like the spinning dead leaves around my feet. Was it worth it to try to fit in? The greatness of the strangeness seemed impossible to get over. I almost persuaded myself to go back to the empty classroom, but a faint hope held me back.
Just as I was about to give up, the boy I bumped into earlier came towards me. With a friendly wave, he closed the distance between us. “Come on, let’s join the fun!” he exclaimed. His friends nodded in agreement, their faces open and inviting. As we talked, I found myself relaxing. It turned out that we all loved the same books and dreamed of faraway adventures. By the time the bell rang, I was no longer the outsider. I learned that a simple act of kindness could transform a day, and that reaching out was all it took to find my place in this new world.

We celebrate your roots and your future together.”

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 Daniel was already on his way, paddling as fast as he could to save me. His face was determined, eyes focused straight ahead, despite the waves tossing his kayak around. As he approached, he extended his paddle to me, and with a great effort, I grabbed hold. He pulled me towards his kayak, and I managed to climb aboard, shivering and coughing up water. Daniel immediately began paddling back towards shore.
Daniel and I finally returned to the shore in Daniel’s kayak and went back home. Mom and Dad rushed out as soon as they saw us, there was a mix of relief and worry on their faces. Daniel, exhausted but proud, handed me over to Mom’s care while he explained what had happened. Mom wrapped me in a warm blanket, and Dad helped Daniel secure the kayak. They praised Daniel for his bravery and quick thinking, while I lay there, still shaken but deeply grateful for my little brother’s heroism. Daniel, despite his own challenges, had rescued my life. He was more than just my little brother; he was my hero who risked everything to save me . And from that day on, our bond grew even stronger.

【答案】One possible version:
Emma cried, feeling worried about the mess and the argument. Jake stood still, his face flushed and his head bowed. He also got upset about the argument. Their father looked at them in silence while their mom came over and calmed them down. “It’s OK, honey,” she said. “Argument will bring much trouble, so let’s change it in another way.” Instead of scolding, she suggested they work together to clean up the mess. And then, she asked Jake to show Emma how to use the knife properly, turning the situation into a learning opportunity.
With their mom’s advice, Jake began to teach Emma how to cut the cheese. At first, Jake showed his movements to Emma, and Emma watched carefully. Later, Jake told her how to hold the knife and where to cut the cheese without hurting herself. Gradually, Emma’s tears stopped, and she began to smile as she made her first successful cheese cut. The kitchen then was full of laughter and encouragement again. After their delicious dinner and the clean up, they all went to sleep. A sense of love, understanding, and the simple joy of being a family filled the quiet kitchen, along with memories of the day.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 “We were so frightened,” she said, tears running down her face. Dad followed, gently placing a hand on my shoulder. His voice broke as he said, “You scared us half to death, kid.” I was at a loss for words. I’d never seen them like this — so open, so vulnerable. Mom kept stroking my hair affectionately, as if she had never done it since I was little. Dad just stood there, his typically unyielding expression now filled with deep concern, showing the depth of his love and fear for me.
Over the next few days, my parents hardly left my side. Mom brought my favorite snacks, even though the hospital food was fine. Dad read aloud from a book he thought I’d like, stumbling over the words but trying anyway. They stayed overnight by turns, neither willing to leave me alone. For the first time in years, I felt… loved. And it hit me: They’d cared all along. Maybe they weren’t the type to say it with words, but their actions spoke louder. They were trying, even if I hadn’t noticed before.

With the story behind the decorations told, they became excited.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】One possible version:
But their responses were disappointing. I felt a pang of sadness, realizing how much things had changed since they were little. The sweet moments of our past seemed to have slipped away. Determined to keep the tradition alive, I carefully opened the box of decorations and began to share the stories behind each one. As I held up the tiny wooden snowman my youngest had made in kindergarten, I saw a flicker of interest in their eyes. Slowly, they started to listen, their initial reluctance giving way to curiosity.
With the story behind the decorations told, they became excited. One by one, they began to join in, carefully selecting ornaments and finding the perfect spots on the tree. My youngest son even laughed as he recalled how he had insisted on placing the snowman front and center every year. My daughter smiled as she hung the glittery star, reminiscing about our first family vacation. As we worked together, I felt a deep sense of relief and joy. This tradition was now stronger than ever. It reminded me that, no matter how busy life gets, these moments of connection are what truly matter.

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
Dad picked up a big rock and threw it at the kitchen window. The glass shattered, making a loud noise that echoed through the frozen forest. Carefully, Dad cleared away the remaining shards of glass and climbed into the cabin. Soon, he managed to unlock the front door from the inside, letting the rest of us in. We quickly gathered around the fireplace, and Dad worked hard to get a fire going. With the warmth slowly spreading through the cabin, our spirits lifted. We went back to the car to collect our belongings and brought them inside.
Although our first day seemed adventurous, we created plenty of great memories that week. We spent our days skiing on the nearby slopes, snowshoeing through the woods, and ice skating on the frozen lake. In the evenings, we gathered around the giant bonfire by the lake, roasting marshmallows and telling stories. The challenges we faced on that first day only brought our family closer together. By the end of the week, we were more thankful than ever for our cozy little cabin in the woods and the time we had spent together.

【答案】With cautious steps, they went further inside. The air grew chillier, making them shiver, but neither suggested turning back. Suddenly, a large rock blocked their way. Alex sized it up and said, “Let’s move it together.” Leo nodded. With joint efforts, they pushed against the big rock. Their hands scraped and arms ached, yet their combined strength won. As the rock was removed, a narrow path came into view. “We make a great team!” Alex let out a long sigh of relief with a big smile spreading across his face.
Hearts beating rapidly, they hurried towards the path. Following it cautiously, they finally stepped out of the cave. An amazing sight greeted them — a huge, green forest stretching as far as they could see. Alex turned to Leo, eyes shining with pure joy. “This is really awesome! I can’t believe we made it.” Leo patted him on the back heartily, “If it weren’t for you to keep me going on, I might have given up.” At that moment, the bond of their friendship tightened and an thirst for further exploration took root deep within them.

May smiled. Her smile was warm and sincere. “I’d love to come,” she replied. I felt a wave of relief wash over me.
When May came to my house on Saturday, we greeted each other warmly. We spent the day talking and laughing. She talked a lot, and at that moment, I realized she was just a girl who wanted to be accepted. She told me about her love for basketball. I shared my interests in reading and drawing. We discovered we had a lot in common. From then on, we became good friends. I never thought it was my braid that helped us build a new friendship.

(23-24高一上·福建宁德·期末)阅读下面短文,根据所给情节进行续写,使之构成一个完整的故事。
One sunny morning, the sun began to rise, casting a warm golden glow over the park. Two young men named Tom and Jerry, who was lost in their own books, found themselves siting on opposite ends of a bench. The air was filled with the sweet scent of blooming flowers and the distant sound of children playing. Their eyes met for a brief moment before they both bent down to pick up their pens. It seemed as if they had known before. They quickly became friends and then began to spend many happy times together. They played basketball, watched movies, and spent many unforgettable days together. However, as time went on, their lives changed, and their friendship was put to the test.
A few years later, Tom became a successful lawyer, while Jerry chose a different path and became an artist. Despite different kinds of changes in their lifestyles, they still kept in touch and would gather together every once in a while to recall the good old days.
One day, Tom received a letter from Jerry. The letter said, “Dear Tom, I hope you can come and visit my art exhibition. I know you may not be interested in art, but I think you will like these works. They are all paintings I made during the days we spent together. I hope you can feel the friendship between us.”
After reading the letter, Tom immediately decided to attend Jerry’s art exhibition. He bought a bunch of flowers as a gift and arrived at the exhibition site. When he walked into the exhibition hall, he was shocked by what he saw. The walls were filled with Jerry’s works, each painting full of life and emotion. He saw scenes of them playing basketball in the park, watching movies together, and walking in the rain. These paintings made him feel the deep friendship between them.

Soon, I needed an artificial eye(义眼, 假眼) and received financial compensation(赔偿) as a result of the accident in our yard.

【答案】参考范文
One day, Paul advised “Gayel, you should use the money to do something for yourself.” “Maybe I should use it to meet Kathy,” I joked, thinking it would take a very long time and couldn’t really happen. I expected Paul to be against it, but he was all for it. “That’s exactly what you should do,” he insisted, knowing how much this friendship meant to me. I struggled so much inside that I tossed and turned at night. But I finally made up my mind to visit Kathy, a friend I knew well but hadn't seen in years.
So I left paul and the kids to travel 30 hours to reach Kathy. Of course I was nervous. We’d poured our hearts out to one another for decades but had never actually met face-to-face. My nerves disappeared the moment I stepped off the plane and spotted Kathy with her mother, sisters and a good friend, all waiting for me. “I’m finally here!” I choked as we hugged each other in tears. For the next 10 days, Kathy showed me the sights of Canada. As we said goodbye, I knew this wouldn’t be the last time we saw each other. At that moment, I realized that even though we were separated by thousands of miles, our friendship remained, and I believed we would meet again!

It is a challenging journey to change their lives for the best and get the healthiest they knew how to. Lexi and Danny lived their lives like most other young couples who fell in love with each other and then made the decision to spend the rest of their lives together.
They worked as a team, supporting each other, so none of them would fail. They kept up on the journey to lose weight.

Lexi was dropping about 20 pounds and Danny 11 pounds per month. Now the couple both have a good shape and enjoy a happy life.

Sometimes, they played the piano at the same time and Lo Porto would record it and post it online. Gradually, this special friendship attracted more and more people on the Internet, making many people not feel lonely any more during this special period.
Para. 2:
However, bad news came. It wasn’t long before Emil passed away in his sleep. On hearing it, Lo Porto was overwhelmed with sadness. He could not help thinking of the good times they shared through a wall. He then posted an emotional goodbye to the friend who had a lasting impact. “Dear Emil, now you have reunited with your wife. I knew very little about you, but you changed my life. You’ll be in my heart, “he wrote. After that, Lo Porto would play the piano at 2 PM every weekend in memory of the friendship between Emil and him. It was Emil that lighted up his lost passion for piano.

【答案】One possible version:
The students began to put their ideas into action in no time. Drives were conducted: trash was collected in bags, native plants were planted to attract butterflies and birds back to the park. Awareness programmes were organised to guide the public about how all were responsible for building a safer and healthier environment. But it didn’t take long for the students to realise that their steps to keep the park clean and green were not being very effective as visitors continued to litter without a care for the environment. The students were discouraged.
But everyone regained confidence in taking smaller steps with teachers’ encouragement. The kids continued to look for the ways to conserve the environment. They worked tirelessly, alongside their teachers to revive not only these places, but also to create a lasting impact on the surrounding areas. The natural beauty of the riverside finally seemed to be revived and the garden soon became a symbol of the students’ dedication to green living. They had done it— together, they had made a difference. And this was just the beginning.

Passage 2

【答案】 One day, I was collecting garbage outside the school. Some people gave me a strange look, as if l were mad. All of a sudden, I thought of the old woman who used to collect garbage many years ago. It occurred to me that I was acting just like her. As strange as that may seem, collecting garbage was meaningful for me. Little by little, a lot of people, came to realize that I was doing voluntary service to keep the town clean, and I was complimented and thanked.
Then I realized that I should encourage more students to take part. Surprisingly, they agreed and we founded a voluntary group. We gave each student a bright orange jacket with the message “Let’s Keep Our Town Cleaner!” We spent the time not just collecting trash, but also sorting it out and recycling it. The most wonderful thing was that all the people who were close to us were also doing their part! I said to myself, “This is what the old woman did for me. She has changed my life greatly.“”
