Find out what the pronouns in bold refer to.

Also, if you don’t agree with others, don’t argue with them.
If you have no idea of a subject, just say “I don’t know much about it.”
If you want to make the other person happy, mention his or her strong points.
Sometimes it is just as important as your words.
If you really work at it, you will find having conversations much easier.

If we replace “it” with “their hobby”, how do you feel about the sentence?
When do we use pronouns?
What’s the function of pronouns?
... if someone tells you their hobby and you can ask questions about it, ...
Think about the following questions and then share answers in groups.
If we change “it” to “their hobby”, the sentence sounds repetitive (重复).
We use pronouns when we want to avoid repeating a noun that’s already mentioned (or clear in context) to make language short and natural.
Pronouns avoid repetition, making speech or writing short and smooth. They also keep the text connected, clearly referring to what’s mentioned before, so the meaning is clear and expression is efficient.

Do you get nervous when you talk to people? Here are some tips. First listen carefully and show interest. Ask questions about their hobbies. Be confident and be yourself. With practice, you’ll find having conversations much easier and more enjoyable.
1e
Discuss the questions.
According to the text, listening plays an important role in a conversation. What do you think makes a good listener?
Do you think the tips are reasonable? Why or why not?
What other tips can you add to the text?
I think taking a genuine interest in what the other person wants to say makes you a good listener. We don’t listen properly if we are just waiting for the other person to finish so that we can say what we want to say.
I think the tips are reasonable because they encourage people to be mindful when having a conversation.
Another good tip I would add is to always ask open-ended questions, because they encourage better responses. For example, instead of asking “Did you have a good day?” we can ask “What was the best part of your day?”
