该高中英语课件围绕“植物交流的秘密”主题,结合“as well as”“be said to have done sth.”

Unit 5 Revealing nature 1 Many cultures have stories of talking trees that give advice as well as warnings to people. Alexander the Great and Marco Polo were said to have visited such a tree in India. as well as 和,也,又 ... be said to have done sth. Language points as well as as well as意为“和……一样好”,和; as well as作介词相当于besides,意思为“除……之外,还有”,后面通常接名词或动词-ing形式,尤其是位于句首时。 as well是副词短语,其意思为“也”,相当于too,它一般放在句末,有时和连词and或but搭配使用。 He speaks Chinese as well as Jane. As well as eating five apples, they drank seven bottles of wine. It is in his best interests as well as yours. Tom as well as his parents _________(enjoy) fishing . enjoys 当用作主语的成分后面跟有由but, except, besides, including, like, with, as well as, along with, in addition to, rather than, together with等引出的短语时,谓语动词习惯上要与这些结构前面的主语保持一致(就远一致)。 Alexander the Great and Macro Polo were said to have visited such a tree in India. (para. 1) sb. be said to do = It is said that sb. … sb. be said to have done sb. be said to be doing eg. The performance is said to be excellent. eg. He is said to be writing a novel about China at present. It is said that Alexander the Great and Marco Polo had gone to see a tree like that in India. Paraphrase: 据说某人做了某事 sb is said to do sth = It is said that sb … 1)据说Darwin是《物种起源》一书的作者。 It is said that Darwin is the writer of the book On the Origin of Species. It is said that he is a famous writer. = He is said to be a famous writer. It is said that he stole that car. = He is said to have stolen that car. 5 2. With us long believing that talking plants are fantasy, new research has revealed something amazing: it appears that plants can communicate after all. With the problem settled, he felt relieved. With Tim guiding us, we had no difficulty in finding the destination. With a lot of work to do, he felt anxious. 毕竟,终究 with + 名词 / 代词 + 非谓语动词 appear 似乎,好像(不用于进行时) There appeared to be no significant difference between the two groups. ② It appears that there has been a mistake. This happens when a plant, say a bean plant, gets attacked by insects. (para. 3) The plant releases tiny amounts of chemicals from the leaves that are being eaten. (para. 3) a large/ great amount of large/ great amounts of eg. So far, a large amount of money (donate) to the local school. eg. So far, large amounts of money (donate) to the local school. has been donated have been donated (比方说) the amount of...……的数量 a large/great amount of+n.[U]大量的……(作主语时,谓语用单数) large amounts of+n.[U]大量的……(作主语时,谓语用复数) amount to总计,合计(amount为动词) detect / detective detect v 发觉;察觉;探测 detective n 侦探 1)一位知名侦探已发现了他的秘密。 A well-known detective has detected his secret. She detected her little brother smoking in the balcony. 9 More surprisingly, plants also use sound to communicate. People can’t hear these sounds, but plants are making them. Some plants make noises with their roots. Corn and chilli plants do this. They also “listen” to the noises from other plants. A chilli plant can tell if a neighbouring plant is helpful, or unfriendly. Some trees make clicking noises when there is not enough water, indicating drought is arriving. More surprisingly, plants also use sound to communicate. (para. 4) Most surprisingly of all, plants have an amazing system of communication that can link nearly every plant in a forest. (para. 5) eg. “What did you say to my animals?” said the emperor, (astonish). eg. (fortunate), he passed the exam. astonished Fortunately tell 识别,辨别 click v. 点击,用鼠标点击;Click for a friend? (因突然明白而)恍然大悟;(与某人情投意合,合得来) When I saw the answer, it suddenly clicked. Most surprisingly of all, plants have an amazing system of communication that can link nearly every plant in a forest. Scientists call this system the “wood wide web”. It is in some ways similar to the Internet we use. While the Internet is a worldwide network of computers linked by cables and satellites, the wood wide web is linked underground by fungi. This fungal network links the roots of different plants to each other. Using the wood wide web, plants can share information and even food with each other. For example, some pine trees can send food to smaller pine trees to help them grow. But just like our own Internet, the wood wide web has its own version of “cybercrime”. Plants can steal food from each other, or spread poisons to attack other plants. Perhaps one day scientists will learn how to create a “firewall” to help prevent these attacks within the wood wide web. link ... to/with 把... 称呼某人某物 be similar to 与...相似 in some ways 在某些方面 Scientists are learning more every day about the secret ways in which plants talk to each other. (para. 6) eg. Can you tell me the way you use to solve the problem. eg. Can you show me the way you did it. which/ that in which/ that Scientists are learning more every day about the secret ways in which plants talk to each other. Who knows? Maybe one day we will know enough about plant communication to be able to “talk” with them ourselves. See you next class! 13 $
