W: I already knew different colors mean different things in different cultures, so it makes sense to think about how the choice of color affects how successful a website is. I was totally absorbed in the lecture’s arguments, though.
M: I thought the approach some companies take was a good solution. You know, changing the colors of their site according to the country they’re marketing products in.
W: Well, I’d use a universally accepted color like blue. It maintains a uniform appearance for the company. Plus, it’s widely regarded as positive and trustworthy across diverse cultures, so it helps avoid any unintended misunderstandings or issues.

【原文】M: Welcome everybody. You are all here because you have bravely decided that you want to take part in our annual public speaking competition. The theme of this year’s competition is the pleasure of leisure. Last year if you remember we had a much more serious topic the dangers of climate change. This year we’re hoping to encourage you to talk about how you enjoy yourselves and the importance of having a good time. The speech should last no more than twenty minutes. When you have five minutes left one of our staff members will hold up a sign informing you that your time will soon be up. I’d now like to give you some suggestions. I advise you very strongly not to try to learn your speech by heart. It will make it sound very unnatural. Even worse than this is to write the speech down and then read it out. The best way to prepare is to summarize what you are going to say into keywords and phrases. Write them down in large letters on a piece of paper. Look at your audience during the speech. And remember to take a deep breath before you start and then slow down your speech. Finally I wish the very best of luck to all our contestants.

第二部分阅读(共两节, 满分50分)
第一节(共15小题; 每小题2.5分, 满分37.5分)
阅读下列短文, 从每题所给的A、B、C、D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
A
Shared mobility
Car sharing, bike sharing and the like are good for the environment, though access to them isn’t equal. A lot can be done to give everyone more transportation options.
Why is it easy to maintain shared mobility?
Walk around most large cities in Europe and the United States, and you’d be forgiven for thinking that we’re living in a brave new world of affordable and effortless mobility for all, with the smartphone in your pocket an access to a great number of shared bikes and electric cars, and a ride service never more than five minutes away.
Who are these services more easily accessible to?
If you’ re disabled or elderly, who lives in a low-income area or without a smartphone or credit card, using these shared mobility services becomes a lot more difficult. They tend to be more accessible in many urban areas, and are often inaccessible to people with reduced mobility or those traveling with young children. Because of these factors, users are unequally younger, wealthier, able-bodied, and male.
What are the potential benefits?
On-demand shared mobility that feeds into well-developed public transportation systems could cut transportation emissions (排放物) by 50 percent — but only if it largely replaces private car use.
What options meet your needs today?
How can shared mobility be spread?
Achieving that goal will be challenging, especially in developed countries, where people choose private cars for 61 percent of the kilometers they travel. To move more people away from private vehicles to shared ones, broadening opportunities to reach a larger population is an important first step.
21. Who finds it hardest to use shared mobility?
A. A man with a smartphone. B. A senior without credit cards.
C. A well-off worker in a city. D. A regular bus-taking student.
22. Which service allows people to operate the vehicle themselves?
A. MICROMOBILITY. B. MICROTRANSIT. C. RIDEPOOLING. D. RIDESOURCING.
23. What should be done first to promote shared mobility?
A. Lower smartphone costs. B. Increase varieties of vehicles.
C. Limiting private car sales. D. Expand accessibility to users.
【答案】21. B 22. A 23. D
【解析】
【导语】这是一篇应用文。文章主要介绍了共享出行的相关信息。

Growing up in Campana, my father’s workshop felt like a magical world. The smell of metal, the sound of machines, and his work-worn clothes left a deep impression on me. It was there that I learned to turn discarded (丢弃的) car parts into toys that fueled my childhood adventures.
Now I’m a PE teacher. I’ve brought my childhood love of creation into the classroom by building metal models that show how the human body moves in sports — all without using electricity. These moving sculptures have become my teaching tools, demonstrating complex motions in slow, easy-to-see detail. Over time, my creations have grown: from a skate model to El Dibu Martinez’s famous World Cup save, from a metal rock band to a wheeled dinosaur. Each piece reflects the beauty of movement.
At school I used to notice students always staring at their phones during breaks. But things changed when they became engaged with my projects. One memorable activity was when we made small boats from metal sheets and tested whether they would float in water-filled containers. In that moment, the screens were forgotten, replaced by the excitement of discovery.
Another meaningful project came when a mother asked me to adapt a prosthetic (假体的) arm for her son Juan. Using just a simple plastic bucket, I created a working design. The moment Juan wore the arm, he began picking things up and handing them to me. We laughed together to celebrate the amazing moment.
To support these projects, my weekly routine now includes searching for materials in garbage dumps. With a limited budget, this is still necessary. But I see a bright side. We’re not only saving resources but also giving new life to discarded materials in creative ways.
Sometimes the smell of metal takes me back to my father’s workshop. I realize that what he gave me was more than skills — it was a way of seeing the world not as it is, but as it could be.
24. Why does the author build metal models?
A. To amuse students in their free time. B. To sharpen his metalworking ability.
C. To demonstrate his artistic creativity. D. To explain sports movements clearly.
25. What can be inferred about the author’s teaching approach?
A. He values theoretical knowledge. B. He prioritizes hands-on activities.

You might wander leisurely into the Kinder Shop if you happened to be in Carlisle, a city that sits in the county of Cumbria in northwest England. Its windows displayed a range of household items like candles, lamps and chairs. But this shop differs from other shops. Each item in the shop was generously donated by local businesses and priced in terms of volunteer hours that the purchaser would contribute to nearby charities. The suggested number of hours required to purchase each item was clearly displayed on its price tag,
Calling itself the Kinder Shop, this store has transformed the concept of kindness into a practical project that genuinely impacts the lives of locals. The nature of the store lies in its devotion to assisting the county’s charitable organizations and community groups, which rely on the invaluable work of volunteers to fulfill their vital missions.
The first customer Sara Talebaoui paid for her purchases, including a table and several chairs set for her garden, by volunteering for a total of 24 hours for several local charities. “This is indeed my lucky day. I had had no knowledge of this event before and couldn’t believe it when I was informed that all these lovely things are being offered in a special way, ” Sara told Cumbria Crack. “I am a bit of a history fan, so working for English Heritage is absolutely a golden opportunity for me. ”
The Kinder Shop has opened doors for people to participate in charitable activities, enabling them to make a practical impact on their community. Bramble House Hair Salon in the nearby town of Keswick was inspired to host a “pay-with-kindness” day. During the activity, individuals who spent 15 minutes collecting trash in the town center received a free haircut as a gesture of appreciation.
“What we thought would be a one-off (一次的) event looks as if it could be the start of something really special,” said Des Moore, CEO of the Cumberland Building Society, “We believe we can take the idea of kindness from Cumbria and spread it all around the UK. ”

Mosquito-borne diseases like malaria remain significant global health threats. While man-made repellents (驱虫剂) effectively discourage these insects, their chemical components often cause harmful reactions such as skin redness and breathing issues. Natural alternatives, such as essential oils from lavender plants, have shown repellent properties but quickly lose their effect in sunlight and dry up fast, making them hard to use widely.
Addressing these challenges, two material engineers from Soochow University in China drew inspiration from nature to design a long-lasting mosquito-repellent fabric. Their study, published in the Journal of Pest Science, focuses on wrapping lavender oil in tiny silk-based containers to achieve lasting protection.
The team turned to silk protein, which breaks down naturally and comes from silkworms. Known for its flexibility and slow-release capabilities, silk protein was combined with gum arabic — a natural polymer (聚合物) from trees — to form tiny stable capsules. By continuously stirring the mixture at warm temperatures, researchers successfully added lavender oil into these capsules. Adjusting the oil concentration allowed them to create samples with 5% to 15%lavender content. Once cooled, the capsules settled and were bonded to cotton fabric pieces for testing.
To evaluate effectiveness, the team fashioned the treated fabric into gloves and conducted trials with human volunteers. Participants wore either treated or untreated gloves and then put their arms near areas with mosquitoes. Results revealed striking differences: untreated gloves attracted an average of 15 mosquitoes per five-minute session, while gloves with 15% lavender oil saw fewer than one mosquito landing. Even after 40 machine washes, the high-concentration fabric maintained strong repellency, with only 2.5 mosquitoes landing on post-treatment gloves — evidence of its durability.
This breakthrough combines eco-friendly materials with advanced material engineering. Unlike traditional repellents, the silk-based capsules gradually release essential oils without frequent reapplication, offering a safer, more sustainable solution. The technology not only reduces reliance on harmful chemicals but also appeals to growing demand for biodegradable (可生物降解的) products.
32. How does the author introduce the topic in the first paragraph?
A. By comparing the limitations of existing repellents.
B. By directly stating the research team’s conclusions.
C. By listing statistical data on mosquito-borne diseases.
D. By quoting experts’ opinions on chemical components.
33. What experimental condition is necessary during capsule formation?
A. Exposure to light for 24 hours. B. Addition of man-made polymers.
C. Immediate freezing after adding oil. D. Continuous stirring at warm temperatures.
34. What is the main advantage of the new fabric compared to traditional repellents?
A. It combines man- made materials with machine washes.
B. It relieves mosquito-borne diseases through reapplication.
C. It provides long-lasting protection without frequent reapplication.
D. It activates stronger repellent effects during several washing cycles.
35. Which statement best summarizes the new fabric’s significance?
A. It reduces fabric durability by using natural polymers.
B. It proves silk protein is worse than man-made polymers.
C. It joins environmentally safe materials with modern high-tech.
D. It brings down lavender oil’s medicinal properties in repellent action.
【答案】32. A 33. D 34. C 35. C

Given we are busy studying and suffer from great stress, the school started the new course, where students do some activities ranging from cooking by themselves in the school dining hall, listening to cooking lectures by professional teachers, tasting delicious food made with parents etc. The course is well received because it not only enables us to master cooking skills but helps to harmonize the relationship between students and teachers. Most importantly, it’s beneficial for us to reduce the stress from study.
I perceive it as a meaningful course. Hope you can join us and enjoy yourself.
Best wishes.

第二节(满分25分)
67. 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It took place in a teacher’s family. One day, Ben was playing basketball in the living room after school, when he accidentally threw the ball at a vase sitting on the shelf. The vase dropped to the floor, and a large piece broke off. What made Ben more upset was that the vase was not a common decoration but an antique (古董), which was handed down through generations from the 18th century. It was also his mother’s favourite possession. To cover his terrible action, the terrified boy glued the pieces together hastily and put the vase back in its place.
As the mother herself dusted the vase every day, she naturally noticed the cracks (裂纹) that evening. To her surprise, the repair work was actually very good. At dinner time, she asked her boy if he had broken the vase. Fearing punishment, the suddenly inspired boy said that a neighbor’s cat jumped in from the window and he couldn’t drive it away, no matter how hard he tried. It raced around the living room and finally knocked the vase off its shelf. His mother was quite clear that her son was lying, for all the windows were closed before she left for work each morning and opened after she returned. However, in the face of her son’s nervous eyes and the suspicious looks of the other family members, Ben’s mother remained calm. She realized she shouldn’t just simply blame and punish her son for lying. She came up with another idea.
Before going to bed, the boy found a note from his mother in his room, asking him to go to the study at once. The boy thought he would now be punished, but, as he had already lied, he decided to deny everything, no matter how angry his mum became.
In the study, calmly bathed in the light, his mother’s face showed no sign of anger. On seeing her son push open the door and cautiously enter, she took a chocolate box out of a drawer and gave him one.
注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The mother said, “This chocolate is a reward for your imagination: a window-opening cat!”
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Now with some chocolates in hand, the boy’s bad attitude disappeared.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】
The mother said, “This chocolate is a reward for your imagination: a window-opening cat!” Ben’s face turned red as he stared at the chocolate in his hand. His mother gently touched his head and continued, “You glued the vase carefully, which shows you truly cared about making things right.” She paused, her eyes warm and understanding. “But imagination should help us solve problems, not hide from them.” Ben bit his lip, realizing his mother had known the truth all along.
Now with some chocolates in hand, the boy’s bad attitude disappeared. He took a deep breath and whispered, “Mom, I’m sorry. I broke the vase while playing basketball and lied to you.” His mother smiled softly, “I’m proud of you for telling the truth. Mistakes happen, but honesty is more precious than any antique.” She handed him another chocolate, “Let’s fix it together tomorrow, okay?” Ben nodded, holding the chocolate tightly, grateful for his mother’s wisdom and love.

A
Shared mobility

At school, I used to notice students always staring at their phones during breaks.
C. He emphasizes competitive sports. D. He relies on advanced technology.
26. Which of the following best describes the author?
A. Skilled and ambitious. B. Practical and strict.
C. Caring and resourceful. D. Talented and humorous.
27. What is the father’s impact on the author?
A. He inspired a unique worldview. B. He encouraged him to be a teacher.
C. He passed down his love for sports. D. He shaped his habit of saving money.

“What we thought would be a one-off (一次) event looks as if it could be the start of something really special,” said Des Moore, CEO of the Cumberland Building Society, “We believe we can take the idea of kindness from Cumbria and spread it all around the UK. ”
28. Which may set the Kinder Shop apart from other stores?
A. The various payment methods. B. Long hours of shopping service.
C. A non-monetary exchange system. D. Generous discounts for volunteers.
29. What is the main purpose of the Kinder Shop?
A. To provide free daily items for those in need. B. To offer employment opportunities to the locals.
C. To drive volunteer contributions to local charities. D. To raise funds for the local charitable organizations.
30. How did Sara find her whole experience of getting furniture from the shop?
A. It’s satisfying. B. It’s inconvenient. C. It’s boring. D. It’s laborious.
31. What can we infer about the Kinder Shop from the last two paragraphs?
A. Its trading mode goes through many changes. B. It competes actively with other businesses.
C. It has received the official support. D. Its impact has expanded further.
D

注意:
1. 续写词数应为150左右;
2. 请在答题卡的相应位置作答。
The mother said, “This chocolate is a reward for your imagination: a window-opening cat!”
