U4 Time to celebrate--When Duty Shines
For Chinese people, festivals usually mean a break from work and happy family reunions. But for Leng Wenying, festivals only mean more work.
As a doctor in the emergency room, Leng missed many family meals with her loved ones. She is often much busier during festivals. Sometimes she has to work without any breaks for 20 hours. This made her tired and thirsty. "Festivals are a challenge because our patients are often in a bad situation. We need to stand by every minute," says Leng.
Leng's duty means she has little time to spend with her family at festivals. But she never regretted her decision to be an ER doctor. "I make the most of every minute with my family. I'm very thankful for their support," she said.
Leng is only one of millions of medical workers in China. They give up their family time to answer the call of duty. In the heart of every patient, their hard work shone brighter than festive fireworks.

原文定位:第一段“For Chinese people, festivals usually mean... But for Leng Wenying, festivals only mean more work.”(对中国人来说,节日通常意味着休息和家庭团聚,但对冷文英来说,节日只意味着更多工作)。
选项分析:C(更多要做的工作)与原文一致;A(工作休息)、B(家庭团聚)是普通人对节日的理解,D(和家人旅行)未提及,故选C。
原文定位:第二段“Festivals are a challenge because our patients are often in a bad situation. We need to stand by every minute," says Leng.”(冷说:“节日是一种挑战,因为我们的病人往往情况很糟糕,我们必须每时每刻坚守岗位”)。
选项分析:B(因为她的病人往往情况很糟糕)符合原文;A(上门看望病人)、C(准备节日饭菜)、D(和其他医护人员合作)均未提及,故选B。
原文定位:第二段“Sometimes she has to work without any breaks for 20 hours.”(有时她必须连续工作20小时不休息)。
原文定位:第三段“But she never regretted her decision to be an ER doctor.”(但她从未后悔成为一名急诊医生的决定)。
选项分析:C(她从未后悔自己的决定)与原文一致;A(后悔选这份工作)、B(觉得累想放弃)、D(觉得工作太难)均与原文矛盾,故选C。
选项分析:A(冷节日有很多时间陪家人)与第三段“she has little time to spend with her family”矛盾,错误;B(冷是中国唯一的医护人员)与第四段“Leng is only one of millions of medical workers”矛盾,错误;C(医护人员为了职责放弃家庭时间)对应第四段“They give up their family time to answer the call of duty”,正确;D(病人不感谢医护人员的努力)与第四段“In the heart of every patient, their hard work shone brighter than festive fireworks”(在每个病人心中,他们的努力比节日烟花更耀眼)矛盾,错误,故选C。

选项分析:A(但对冷文英来说,节日只意味着更多工作)中“but”表转折,完美承接前文,引出本文主角的特殊情况;F(冷很喜欢她的工作)、G(有很多时间陪家人)与上下文矛盾,故填A。
2. 第2空:空前句“As a doctor in the emergency room, Leng missed many family meals...”(作为急诊医生,冷错过很多家庭聚餐),空后句“Sometimes she has to work without any breaks for 20 hours.”(有时连续工作20小时),空格需填“错过聚餐”与“长时间工作”之间的过渡(体现“忙”)。
3. 第3空:空前句“This made her tired and thirsty.”(这让她又累又渴),空后句“We need to stand by every minute," says Leng.”(冷说:“我们必须每时每刻坚守岗位”),空格需填冷的话的前半句(解释“忙”的原因)。
4. 第4空:空前句“Leng's duty means she has little time to spend with her family...”(她的职责意味着节日很少陪家人),空后句“I make the most of every minute with my family...”(她珍惜和家人的每一分钟),空格需用转折体现“少陪家人”但“不后悔”的态度。
5. 第5空:空前句“Leng is only one of millions of medical workers in China.”(冷只是中国数百万医护人员中的一员),空后句“In the heart of every patient, their hard work...”(在每个病人心中,他们的努力……),空格需填“数百万医护人员”的共同做法(承接“冷”的个人行为到群体行为)。
选项分析:E(他们放弃家庭时间来履行职责)中“they”指代“millions of medical workers”,衔接“个人”到“群体”,且与空后句“hard work”呼应;F、G与“医护人员群体”无关,故填E。
