Passage 3
(24-25七年级上·江苏扬州市江都区·期末)
Starting a book club is easy—all you need is to love reading. Here’s how to make a good beginning.
When you start your book club, the first thing is to find members for your club. They could be friends, family, or those you know through other activities, but they should all love to read. ① Too many make it hard to talk with each other.
Once you have a group, agree on how often you want to meet—usually clubs meet monthly. Pick a date and go on it. That way, members can easily plan for it. Send out emails a week before the meeting. An hour is a good start. ②
Then, you need a good place. Libraries, parks and restaurants—all make good meeting places. For many clubs, homes are the best place because you don’t have to get dressed up, and noisy places can make meetings hard. If members bring a plate of food or a bottle of drink, it can help start talking. ③
Please do not forget the most important thing — the books! Think about the books your club will enjoy. Your club can choose books in different ways. You can take turns to recommend (推荐) books. Anyway, make sure to keep it light and fun. ④
After all these have been decided, your book club is ready. Now, it is time to start the first meeting. Enjoy your reading.

In Egypt, yellow is the color for death (死亡).In Britain and other Western cultures, death and funerals are usually linked to the color black, but in many Eastern countries white is the color people think of when it comes to death and funerals.

②Blue is not a usual color in nature. Less than one in ten plants are blue. Why? To answer this question, we should know the fact—there is no true blue pigment (色素) in nature.
③So how does the blueberry do it? First, the berry’s skin has a lot of anthocyanin. This kind of pigment can look blue sometimes, but in blueberries, it looks dark red. Second, Rox’s team looks at the blueberry’s skin under a microscope (显微镜). What do they find? The wax (蜡) on the skin has lots of small parts. Each part is as thick as a piece of paper. These parts send back blue light. That’s why the fruit looks blue to us.

In Science Focus Magazine, some studies showed a relationship (关系) between the colours of the clothes we wear and how we act and feel. One study found that wearing red can make it easier to take action. It also showed bright colors can make people feel active. One more study showed that wearing green can make people feel relaxed because it is the colour of nature. Yellow, the color of summer, can bring people happiness. “Of course there’re germs on the egg, but by washing it, you make it worse. The egg shell is porous. The water can get germs into the egg when you wash it,” says health expert Amy Leigh Mercree. “And this can happen more easily when you use cold water or running water.”

Dopamine is something in our brain. It makes people feel good. Our brain gives it out when we eat delicious food, play with our pets, listen to our favourite songs, after we exercise or when we win a game.
But there are some problems with these studies because people from different cultures have different ideas about dressing and colours.

Spring Festival Couplets are an important part of the Chinese New Year culture.

In a pair of Spring Festival Couplets, the first line (upper scroll) and the second line (lower scroll) have the same number of characters, and their meanings are related and antithetical (相关对仗). The horizontal scroll is a four-character phrase. It covers the two lines’ meanings.
