Passage 1
(24-25九年级上·安徽省合肥市蜀山庐江县区·期末)
My 100 Days without a Mobile Phone
When was the last time you left home without your mobile phone? Can you imagine yourself living a month, or even a year without checking your mobile phone from time to time?
Staying connected to other people is a big part of my life. However, sometimes it can be bothersome (恼人的). One day I discovered I was terribly tired out. I tried turning notifications (通知) off. But the fear of missing out something important made me check the phone more often than before. So, I simply stopped using my phone.
Well, to tell the truth, it was not simple at all. For the first couple of days, I had a big fear that all of my friends would soon forget about me. The worries mixed with boredom kept bothering me. However, after three weeks without a mobile phone, I started noticing changes—changes which I liked, and which drove me to not just continue the experiment, but in fact to reorganize some of my habits.
First of all, after a month of staying away from my mobile phone, I found that my ability to focus improved. Besides, I discovered that the world is a beautiful place. I could understand the actual beauty of the world, and I did not need anyone else to prove the value of this beauty through likes or shares.
Now, as 100 days has passed, I can say that the experiment was worth it. I am planning to stay away from my phone for as long as possible.

When I was in Grade Seven, Mr. Brown, our science teacher organized a competition. He asked each of us to make a paper plane of any shape. The person who got his/her paper plane to fly the farthest would win.
I had much experience of making paper planes because I often made them for my younger brother. I made the best plane I could and it flew pretty far. I thought it would be easy for me to win the competition.
To my surprise, my classmate Tony reported that he was ready to test his paper plane with just a regular piece of paper in his hand. Seeing this, some of my classmates started laughing. How could a piece of paper fly? Moments later, Tony crumpled (揉皱) up the piece of paper into a ball and threw it down the hallway. The paper ball did fly very far and Tony beat the class.
Some students got mad and said, “Mr. Brown, Tony cheated. That’s not a paper plane at all.” Hearing this, Mr. Brown smiled and said, “Well, I said your paper planes could be in any shape. A paper ball is indeed a shape.”

My mom always cooks delicious food. The dining room is next to the living room. The balconies(阳台) are not very large, but I like them best because I can enjoy beautiful nature sights there. We park our car outside the house and there is a small park in the yard where we could play games in the evening.
There is so much fun at my home. Though we fight for small things, my parents make us realize all the good things in life and we try understanding them.
As the saying goes, “A house is built by hands. but a home is built by hearts.” Our home is also built by hearts. My home is a warm, welcoming and loving place.

The Awakening Age (《觉醒年代》) is the most meaningful and interesting TV drama that I have ever seen. It was shown first on CCTV 1 on February 1, 2021. It shows history from the New Culture Movement (新文化运动) to the founding (成立) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) .
I like it because I can feel the power of youth from the drama. In order to wake people up to the problems, many students gave speeches in the streets. They tried their best to fight for a better world. Also, they spread ideas of democracy (民主) and science no matter what troubles they would get into.
Among all the characters, I admire Chen Yannian the most. He has made great contributions to the growth of the CPC. The building of the Beijing Central Axis began in the 13th century and took shape in the 16th century. According to Liu Zhou, director of the National Heritage Center at Tsinghua University, this idea of city planning dates back to the Kaogongji (《考工记》), written before 221 BC. This book explains how to plan a capital city.
The Beijing Central Axis shows traditional Chinese ideas of “zhong” and “he”. For example, the royal palace was placed at the center, with other important buildings placed around it to create a sense of harmony (和谐感).
“Beijing’s unique (独一无二的) and great order is created by this central axis,” said Liang Sicheng (1901—1972), a famous Chinese architect (建筑师).

First, she did a survey. The result showed there were already 150 million tons of plastic in the sea, and that every year there would be another 8 million tons. She realized something must be done. So she decided to invent a robot that could work under water. She tried again and again. At last her ROV (遥控无人潜水器) came out. My father works as a banker and my mother writes stories. We just have two bedrooms, one for my parents and the other for my sister and me.
