Dear Mum and Dad,
①This is my fifth day at the summer camp. I think I should tell you what I did in the camp.
②First, everyone had to get up at 5:30 in the morning. Then, we had breakfast at about 6:30. After that, we had some free time, so I went to the nearby lake to fish. But yesterday, I fell into the water and got wet.
③In the afternoon, there were different activities for us to choose from, such as archery (射箭术), horseback riding and hiking. I thought archery would be good for me, but I shot (射中) Jeff’s hat. As a result, they never asked me to come again after that.
④In the evening, everyone had a different job to help prepare dinner. Yesterday, it was my job to cook the hot dogs, but I dropped them into the fire by mistake, so we had to eat bread instead. The other kids complained (抱怨) about it. At night, we sat around a campfire, singing songs and telling stories. That was usually fun. But one night, when I was trying to find more sticks (枯枝) for the fire, I got lost in the forest. After about an hour, I finally found my way back, but no one seemed to know what had happened.
⑤Well, today is another day and tomorrow I will go home. I have learned that camping is interesting but difficult. I am tired, but I might go to a camp again in the future.

Winter is hard for most animals, so some birds and animals travel south for the winter.
The groundhog (土拨鼠), however, lives through winter in a different way. As soon as it feels the weather turning cold, it starts to dig a hole (挖洞) at least 1.5 metres deep (深). There it makes a comfortable home with leaves and grass. It spends the cold winter months in its bed under the ground and it won’t come out until spring.
The groundhog doesn’t eat at all during the winter. Instead, it eats as much and as often as it can during the summer. As winter comes, the groundhog becomes so heavy that it can hardly move. When it wants to sleep, it goes back to the hole and falls into a deep sleep. Its breathing almost stops, its heartbeat (心跳) slows, and its body temperature falls to just above 0℃ during the sleep. When it gets up in spring, its weight is only half of that in autumn. By February or March, it’s ready to leave its hole.
So years ago, people often waited for the first groundhog to go out of the hole. When it did, they knew spring was coming. There are some stories about it. One of them is about a groundhog called Phil. This animal could tell the weather. Phil went out of the hole and looked around every February 2nd. If he saw his shadow (影子), it meant that the winter would last for six more weeks. If the weather was cloudy and he didn’t see his shadow, it meant spring would be early.
16. What can we know about the groundhog’s winter home?
A. It’s usually in trees. B. Its bed is 1.5 metres long. C. There are leaves and grass in it.
17. What will happen to the groundhog when it sleeps in winter?
A. It starts to weigh less. B. It breathes more quickly. C. Its body temperature goes up.
18. Why did people expect the groundhog to come out in the past?
A. Because it was the best time to catch it.
B. Because it showed the winter was over.
C. Because there was much food in its home.
19. Which of the following is the right order according to the passage?
①The groundhog sleeps in its bed under the ground.
②The groundhog leaves its hole next year.
③The groundhog digs a hole as its home
④The groundhog eats as much and as often as it can.
A. ①③④② B. ③④②① C. ④③①②
20. Which of the following words can best describe the groundhog?

Is she kind? Does he like parties? Sometimes it’s not easy to know that, but we can find out whether a person is an introvert (内向的人) or an extrovert (外向的人). Introverts are usually quiet and they spend lots of time staying by themselves. Being with people makes them feel tired. And they usually spend a lot of time thinking and take more time to make decisions. However, extroverts are very excited when they are with many people. They enjoy talking with people and they usually make decisions quickly.
Some people may think that introverts are shy. But in fact, being an introvert can be a great thing sometimes. Here are some examples.
Introverts often notice more things than others. When others are busy talking, introverts are more likely to notice things like body language and people’s faces (脸). Extroverts might not notice these.
Introverts are better listeners when they have a talk with others. They’re less likely to cut in before a person finishes speaking. And because introverts like to think carefully about things, they’re more likely to listen to everything others say before they talk to them.
Introverts can also be great leaders (领导者). They know the people in their groups very well. So they can ask the right people to help them do great work.
Although introverts may find being with other people tiring, that doesn’t mean they don’t have or want friends. In fact, it means they make friends with others very carefully. Once they decide to bring those people into their lives, they will be very friendly to them.

③The groundhog digs a hole as its home.
④The groundhog eats as much and as often as it can.
A. ①③④② B. ③④②① C. ④③①②

Introverts and Extroverts
