1. —I can’t believe it. Maria has practiced running for two hours.
—Yeah. She ________ be very tired now. She needs a good rest.
A. can’t B. should C. must D. will
can’t不可能;should应该;must一定;will将。根据“Maria has practiced running for two hours.”以及“She needs a good rest.”
2. If you _______ a flash, you may be allowed to take some photos in the museum tomorrow.
A. isn’t used B. didn’t use C. don’t use D. won’t use
根据“If you...a flash, you may be allowed to take some photos in the museum tomorrow.”
3. —When I was seven, I coughed ________. Mom said no ice-cream for me.
—She’s right. Mom always knows best.
A. bad B. worse C. worst D. badly
4. —Wow, your new blouse is so pretty. It feels soft. What is it _________?
—Silk
A. made into B. made of C. made in D. made up
made into被制成;made of由……
5. —Sorry, Betty, you don’t know how I regretted _________ to you in that way.
—It’s OK. I know you didn’t mean to do it.
A. talking B. talked C. to talk D. talks
【答案】A
regret doing sth.后悔做某事(事情已经做了);regret to do sth. 根据“Sorry, Betty, you don’t know how I regretted...to you in that way.” 故选A。
6. Only when we work together __________.
A. we can get better grades B. we should achieve our dreams
C. can we solve the problem D. we need to improve ourselves
A选项“we can get better grades” 、B选项“we should achieve our dreams”和D选项“we need to improve ourselves”均为正常语序,不符合“only+状语”置于句首时的句子结构要求;C选项“can we solve the problem”是部分倒装结构,符合此倒装结构。故选C。
7. _______ Tom _______ Mary speaks good Chinese, so they can communicate with us very well.
A. Neither; nor B. Not only; but also C. Both; and D. Either; or
Neither...nor...既不……也不……;Not only...but also...不但……而且……;Both...and...…… 根据“so they can communicate with us very well”可知,他们中文都说得好,排除A、D选项,又因为“speaks”为第三人称单数形式,而“Both...and...”连接两个并列主语时,谓语动词用复数形式,“Not only...but also...”
8. —Look, your room is in a mess, Jason. It needs a clean-up.
—You are right. I’ll get my room ________ right now.
A. cleaned B. cleaning C. cleans D. to clean
【答案】A
根据“I’ll get my room ... right now.” 故选A。
9. Jennifer takes a lot of exercise every day and she is always full of _________.
A. knowledge B. energy C. change D. pride
根据“takes a lot of exercise”可知,锻炼多的人通常精力充沛,故选B。

—Great. ________, the talks are a very important step on the road toward peace.

My pleasure我的荣幸;Don’t mention it别客气;Without doubt毫无疑问;No way没门。根据“Great.”

Do you know about triangles (三角形)? A triangle is a shape which has three straight sides. We learn this beautiful shape in math. In fact, you can find many things in the shape of triangles around us, such as sandwiches.
Triangles are useful in our daily life. For example, we use lots of triangles when we build bridges. People and cars go across the bridge. The bridge carries a lot of weight. They are also useful for heavy buildings. Think about the Eiffel Tower in France, standing at 324 meters tall. What shape do you see there? Yes! You see triangles. Why do people use triangles to build heavy and tall buildings? It’s not an accident. Each of the three sides supports the other two, so a triangle will not change shape unless its sides are broken. A triangle can bear weight and is not easy to change, so it can hold a lot of weight. It can keep its shape over time and give support to these buildings to stay standing for years to come.
Are triangles always useful? If there is a big earthquake, what do you do? Hide under a table or in the toilet? Someone says people should stay next to a tall and heavy thing. When the ceilings (天花板) falls on that thing, they will make a triangle-shaped space for people to stay in. He calls it the “Triangle of life”. However, some scientists don’t agree with him. They believe that it’s difficult to know where the triangles will be, because things move during earthquakes. Also, it’s not safe to stay next to heavy things. Studies show heavy things falling kills more people than ceilings do. When considering the use of triangles, we should also think about the conditions.
After all, we should make good use of triangles, maybe just little things. Think about the last time you stood on a moving bus. Did you stand with your feet apart? Then, you just made yourself a triangle!
31. Why do people use the triangle to build heavy buildings?
A. Because it looks beautiful.
B. Because it has three straight sides.
C. Because it is strong and not easy to change.
D. Because it is used for building Eiffel Tower in France.
32. What does the underlined word “bear” mean?
A. support B. lose C. put D. create
33. Why do scientists think finding “Triangle of life” is a bad idea in earthquakes?
A. Because the idea “Triangle of life” only works in big earthquakes.
B. Because triangles are only used in building bridges or heavy things.
C. Because it is hard to find a tall and heavy thing to make a “Triangle of life” place.
D. Because things move during earthquakes and it is difficult to find a “Triangle of life” place.
34. Which of the following is TRUE?
A. Triangles are only found in math classes in our daily lives
B. It’s safe to hide under a table when there is an earthquake.
C. Standing on a moving bus with your feet apart is a good use of triangle.
D. When considering the use of triangles, we don’t need to think about any other things .
35. What’s the writer’s purpose for writing the passage?

①Do you often hear birdsong outside the window? How do you feel when you hear it? In fact, it is shown that birdsong can influence people’s life.
②Birdsong sounds especially nice in winter because it reminds people of spring. A study found that listening to birdsong for six minutes can help make people less stressed. It’s hard to feel sad when you hear birds singing or talking, as the energy in their songs makes people feel like walking in the garden. Unlike music, which can sometimes make you produce strong feelings, birdsong is usually seen as positive or neutral (中性的). If you live in a noisy city, birdsong can be a welcome relief from the stress caused by outside noise.
③It is believed that birdsong has also been found to improve focus. It can help people focus on their tasks and be more productive. That’s because when people play birdsong in the background at work, it seems that a “wall” is built to help them stay away from the unpleasant noise outside. In this way, birdsong can be a powerful tool to improvement at work.
④Carrie Tom, a doctor in North Carolina, has also found that birdsong makes it easier to help people enter a deep sleep. Birdsong, as a kind of white noise, can slow down people’s heartbeats and breath. After listening to birdsong for a long time, a conditioned response (条件反射) is developed in their brains. Therefore, birdsong becomes a signal of entering sleep, which helps them fall asleep faster than before and improves their sleep quality.
⑤Birdsong, a gift from nature, connects people with calmer, more natural settings and makes people feel happier and healthier. So, next time you hear a bird singing, take a moment to enjoy it and let it bring a little joy to your day!

In recent years, Pop Mart has become a well-known cultural thing, winning the love of young fans around the world. It’s more than just a normal toy store. It creates a magical world full of cute characters that attract people with their charm.
The most interesting part of Pop Mart is its blind boxes, which hold the excitement of not knowing what’s inside. When you buy a blind box, you’re full of a feeling of mystery, because you won’t know which character is inside until you open it.
Usually, one series (系列) has a special “hidden” character that’s very hard to find and another 11 characters that are easier to get. This makes collecting them an exciting challenge. Many collectors really want to get the whole collection, especially those hard-to-find hidden characters. In 2023, Pop Mart sold over 10 million blind boxes just in China, showing how popular this idea is.
The characters of Pop Mart are designed carefully. Designers get ideas from many things, like old fairy tales, history, and modern art. Take the famous Molly series as an example. Designed by a Hong Kong artist. Molly has big round eyes and a special hairstyle. Each Molly figure wears different clothes and has different themes, like space adventures, animals, and festivals. These beautifully made figures are so lovely that people like them as soon as they see them.
Pop Mart has opened stores in many big cities around the world. These stores don’t only sell things. They also work as places where fans can get together. Here, people who love Pop Mart can meet, share stories about their collections, and trade figures.

In January of this year, I took part in a “Sharing Thanks” activity. After finishing it, I sat on a train home, thinking about the kind people around me. Then I started to write some thank-you notes to those who had given me a lot of help before. When I got off the train, I felt really happy. The next day, sending those notes brought me more happiness. At that time I got an idea: Why not write thank-you notes every month?
I came up with a theme for each month. January was for teachers. In February, I thanked my neighbor who was a friend of mine and also was a bookstore owner. She often held free reading clubs for kids. In the following months, I kept writing. In March, I showed my thanks to the doctors who took good care of my family. In April, with the theme of workmates, I wrote to Julie. In the letter, I told her how much I missed her delicious dishes. How thankful my husband and I were for the biscuits she made for our ninth anniversary (周年). Julie said it was the most touching letter she’d ever received. In May, I chose the theme of family. I first wrote thank-you notes to my parents, thanking them for raising me up and always being there whenever I need help. Then I wrote to my husband for his patient listening and understanding.
I don’t know if I’ll write notes every month, but I do know this: the habit of saying “thank you” will never leave me.
