That is the daring plan behind The Line, a city planned in the desert of Saudi Arabia. It will stretch for 170 kilometers, but it will only be 200 meters wide, with mirrored walls taller than the Eiffel Tower. Life Inside The Line Life inside The Line is designed to be efficient, modern, and high-tech. People will be able to reach schools, shops, and parks in just five minutes on foot. If they want to travel further, a super-fast train will carry them from one end of the city to the other in only 20 minutes. There will be no private cars at all, which means cleaner air and less noise. Instead, robots and artificial intelligence will manage the city, controlling energy, waste, and even public transport. Nature and Water Challenges Building such an enormous city in the desert creates serious environmental challenges. Rare animals, such as the Arabian leopard, risk losing their natural homes. The mirrored walls may also confuse birds, causing them to fly into the glass. The greatest problem, however, is water. Experts say the city will need around two million litres of drinking water every day, and because the desert has no rivers, most water will come from desalination, a process that removes salt from seawater. This technology is useful, but it requires large amounts of energy and can damage marine life if not carefully managed. The Future By 2045 Saudi Arabia hopes nine million people will live inside The Line and that the city will become a global leader in green technology. But experts warn that houses may be far too expensive for most ordinary Saudis, and the extreme desert climate could make life uncomfortable. The Line might succeed and inspire future cities around the world or — it could fail and become one of the costliest failures in history. 21. How will people move inside The Line if they want to go longer distances? A. By flying taxi. B. By private car. C. By desert bus. D. By super-fast train. 22. What is the biggest environmental problem? A. Not enough drinking water. B. Birds flying into the glass. C. The high cost of removing salt. D. Animals losing their homes. 23. What is the author's attitude toward the future of The Line? A. Unsure but excited. B. Positive and careful. C. Hopeful but worried. D. Angry and disappointed. B Visitors arriving at the “Big Summer Bash" in Congham, East Anglia, carry strange boxes filled with green leaves—— and snails (蜗牛). This is the World Snail Racing Championships, drawing trainers from as far as South Korea and America. The racetrack is a table covered with a wet cloth marked with two circles. Fifteen snails start from the center, and the first to reach the outer line wins, hoping to beat the record set by a snail named Archie in 1995, who crossed the course in two minutes flat. Until recently, this funny race was part of Congham’s church festival, where villagers played games to raise money for the local church. However, such events faced a slow decline (衰退). It became hard to find people to help, especially as the older members grew tired. With rural areas losing young people and closing schools and shops, village life seemed to be disappearing. But summer festivals are making an unexpected comeback. Organizers report that more money is being raised than before. One reason is the growing number of middle- class newcomers from cities. Such people are often blamed for the decline of village life, pricing out locals without really integrating into the community. Yet in many places they have shown themselves to have the skills, resources, energy and time to organize successful events. The Lurgashall village festival in West Sussex, for example, is run by a retired finance (金融的) expert. In Kent, a former banker leads Otford’s. In Witcham, the World Peashoot Championships are co- chaired by Eleanor Herring, who moved there in 2021. In Compton, most committee members are people who have come to live there only recently. In Congham, newcomers Nicholas Dickinson and Ian Haynes now run the snail race and have rebuilt the festival around it. Even heavy rain could not stop the crowd’s excitement. “Snails are amazing—they make you believe in them,” said ten-year-old Alyssa. As people stood close under umbrellas, watching the slow race, a small but real sense of hope seemed to grow—for the snails, and for the English countryside itself. 24. How does the writer introduce the topic? A. By explaining the rules of snail racing. B. By comparing snails with human athletes. C. By introducing the history of snail racing. D. By describing an unusual competition scene. 25. What mainly caused the village events’ decline? A. Loss of local shops. B. Poor church support. C. Aging and youth loss. D. Declining public interest. 26. Why does the writer mention Eleanor Herring? A. To prove that city people hardly join rural events. B. To suggest that village festivals need more money. C. To explain why rural communities are dying slowly. D. To show that newcomers can help local traditions return. 27. What is the best title for the passage? A. The Decline of British Countryside B. The Story of a Snail Racing Contest C. The Change of Newcomers in English Villages D. From Snail Races to the Return of Village Life C Scientists have long wanted to find signs in the body, called biomarkers, that show our biological age or predict health problems. A new study on dogs, which are good models because they share genes (基因), diseases, and living conditions with humans, has found clues that may help us understand aging in pets and people. The study, published on October 22 in Aging Cell, involved scientists from Tufts University, the University of Washington, and other institutions. They studied blood from nearly 800 dogs in the Dog Aging Project, a long-term study of aging. About 40% of small molecules (分子) in dog blood change as dogs get older. Daniel Promislow, a senior scientist at Tufts and the study's main author, said, “These molecules, called metabolites (代谢分子), are the building blocks of life. They help form proteins, DNA, and other cell parts.” One type of metabolite, called post-translationally modified (改变) amino acids (ptmAAs),was linked with aging in dogs of all breeds, sizes, and sexes. Promislow explained, “ptmAAs are made in two ways. Gut (肠道) bacteria (细菌) produce them when we digest (消化) food, or they appear when proteins break down.” The source of ptmAAs is not fully known, but kidney (肾脏) function is important. Kidneys normally remove protein byproducts from the blood. When kidney function gets worse, ptmAAs build up. This may explain why some dogs age healthier than others and gives clues for humans. Researchers now plan to follow the same dogs for several years to see how metabolites change. They want to study gut bacteria that may change with age and affect ptmAAs. They also hope to see if changes in muscle mass — a common issue in aging dogs and people — are related to ptmAAs. Promislow said, “We have a great chance to understand aging and find ways for both humans and dogs to grow older in the healthiest way possible.” 28. Why are dogs a good model for aging research? A. Because they have unique biological markers. B. Because they are easy to train for experiments. C. Because they share human genes and environment. D. Because they suffer from fewer age-related diseases. 29. What is the main finding of the study? A Dogs age faster than humans. B. Metabolites are building blocks of life. C. Many blood molecules change with age. D. Gut bacteria produce important metabolites. 30. What is key to ptmAAs levels? A. Gut bacteria. B. Breed and size. C. Protein breakdown. D. Kidney performance 31. What is the main goal of the research according to Promislow? A. Ensure healthy aging. B. Increase dog muscles. C. Treat aging diseases. D. Change gut bacteria. D While Tesla’s Model S was not the first car with a touchscreen, its simple design and large display quickly started a new trend in the auto industry. Soon, most new cars used big screens to control everything from air conditioning to music and even safety systems such as lane- keeping assistance. But are touchscreens safe? The argument against them is clear: if using a phone while driving is risky then using a car screen must be similar. Physical buttons (按钮) let drivers use touch and memory to change settings without looking away from the road. A flat screen gives no physical feedback (反馈), and finding the right option may require several taps. These actions can easily distract drivers. Many studies corroborate these worries. A 2022 Swedish test asked drivers to change radio stations or adjust temperature while driving at 110 km/h. In older cars with buttons, all tasks took less than ten seconds. But in newer cars with screens, the same tasks sometimes took 45 seconds. Another 2024 study showed that typing a new navigation (导航) address distracted drivers for an average of 16 seconds. A British report even found that using touchscreens can slow reaction time more than driving after drinking alcohol (酒精)。 Safety groups have started to respond. From January, Euro NCAP, a European car safety program, will require cars to have real buttons for important functions like turn signals and wipers (雨刷) if they want a five-star safety rating. The rule is not law, but the rating strongly affects sales. As a result, many brands, including Volkswagen, Hyundai, and Porsche, are bringing buttons back. They say drivers prefer them and feel safer using them. But innovation never stops. Even as touchscreens are falling out of favor, many companies are turning their attention to voice control — though that is a subject for another story. 32. What is the main argument against touchscreens? A. Look modern but unsafe. B. Show poorer display quality. C. Require more screen control. D. Distract drivers while driving. 33. What does the underlined word “corroborate” mean in Paragraph 3? A. Support. B. Favor. C. Hide. D. Question. 34. What does the 2022 Swedish study mainly test? A. Task completion time. B. Drivers’ reaction time. C. Task performing habit. D. Temperature adjustment behavior. 35. What is the main idea of Paragraph 4? A. Legal rules on ratings. B. Marketing tools for cars. C. Industry responses on safety. D. Design changes on screens. 第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分) 阅读下面短文,从短文后的选项中选出可以填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。 Whether you’re a professional athlete or just like to play sports, doing your best starts with a healthy mind. ____36____ —— it’s about building good habits like drinking enough water, eating right, and getting proper rest. I’m very tired. This year, I decided to make things easier. I set a cleaning plan and gave myself time each morning to shower, brush my hair, and change clothes. For a week or two, it worked. Then I realized that doing those things wasn't real self-care. They were things to make me look beautiful, not feel calm. I needed mental and emotional self-care, too. I started reading at night. It was my personal time to forget everything but the fictional (虚构的) world I sank into. But I was so tired from the day that I’d read two pages and fall asleep. If I managed longer, a dog would bark for attention. A cat would scratch at the door until I let it in. A kid would wake up and need something. Relaxing? Not quite. With kids at home, I couldn’t find any place that truly relaxed me. My anxiety grew. Even with a plan, I always felt behind. Should I have read one more story to the kids? Was I patient enough? Did I enjoy them enough, as time is so short? Then my favorite day of the year arrived — my library’s big book sale, where I usually come home with no less than a hundred books. I had never missed it, not for rain or lack of a babysitter. But this year, the workers said it would be the last year. After more than twenty-five years, the people who ran it would be retiring (退休). No one had stepped up to take their place. “This can’t be the last year,” I said to my husband. “I’ve been coming here for more than half my life!” 注意: 1.续写词数应为150左右; 2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 “You should do it,” my husband said, pushing me forward. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The moment I stepped into the library, I felt a strange calm. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $英语科听力部分,该部分分为第一第二两节。注意回答听力部分时,请先将答案标在试卷上。听力部分结束前,你将有两分钟的时间将答案转涂到答题卡上。现在是听力试音时间。Hello, international friends club, can I help you? First, follow a good example. There must be someone around you who likes reading for pleasure. Try to learn from them and copy their behavior. Second, organise your room with different kinds of books, leave them around so that you can pick up a book whenever you like. Third, give yourself a certain time to choose your own books when you are out. Make sure to go to a bookstore and add to your collection. Fourth, build on your interests. Look for books and articles that feature your favourite sports teams, rock stars, hobbies or television shows. That way, you may find that reading is much more fun than you have thought. Finally, make reading out loud part of family life. Share an article, a poem, letter or any page from any book with your family, and you may be surprised to find that reading can not only bring happiness to yourself, but also to your family. The Future By 2045, Saudi Arabia hopes nine million people will live inside The Line and that the city will become a global leader in green technology. 【答案】21. D 22. A 23. C 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇应用文。本文介绍了沙特阿拉伯沙漠中的未来城市“线城”(The Line),着重展示了其创新的城市结构、零排放理念以及高科技生活方式。 【21题详解】 细节理解题。根据“Life Inside The Line”部分“If they want to travel further, a super-fast train will carry them from one end of the city to the other in only 20 minutes.(如果他们想要继续前行,只需乘坐一列超高速列车,就能在短短20分钟内从城市的这一端抵达另一端)”可知,居民在城市内部进行较远距离出行时将乘坐超级快铁。故选D。 【22题详解】 细节理解题。根据“Nature and Water Challenges”部分“The greatest problem, however, is water.(然而,最大的问题在于水资源)”可知,最主要的环境担忧是没有足够的饮用水。故选A。 【23题详解】 推理判断题。通读全文可见,作者既描绘了“The Line”高度自动化、绿色宜居的理想愿景,又指出其生态风险与技术可行性问题。结尾句“The Line might succeed and inspire future cities around the world or — it could fail and become one of the costliest failures in history.(The Line或许会取得成功,并为全球各地的未来城市提供借鉴经验,也有可能会失败,并成为历史上代价最为高昂的失败案例之一)”显示作者的态度是既充满希望又谨慎怀疑。综上,作者的观点是“谨慎乐观”。故选C。 B Visitors arriving at the “Big Summer Bash" in Congham, East Anglia, carry strange boxes filled with green leaves—— and snails (蜗牛). 25 What mainly caused the village events’ decline? From Snail Races to the Return of Village Life 【答案】24. D 25. C 26. D 27. D 【解析】 【导语】这是一篇记叙文。文章以康厄姆世界蜗牛赛跑锦标赛为引子,讲述乡村活动曾因人口问题衰退,后在城市新移民助力下复苏,为英国乡村带来希望。 【24题详解】 推理判断题。根据第一段中“This is the World Snail Racing Championships, drawing trainers from as far as South Korea and America. The racetrack is a table covered with a wet cloth marked with two circles. Fifteen snails start from the center, and the first to reach the outer line wins, hoping to beat the record set by a snail named Archie in 1995, who crossed the course in two minutes flat.( 这便是世界蜗牛赛跑锦标赛,吸引了远自韩国和美国的“蜗牛训练师”。赛道是一张铺着湿布的桌子,上面画有两个圆圈。15 只蜗牛从中心出发,率先抵达外圈线的获胜,选手们都希望能打破 1995 年由一只名叫阿奇的蜗牛创下的纪录 —— 它仅用两分钟就跑完了全程。)”可推知,作者是通过描述一个不寻常的比赛场景来引入主题的。故选D项。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“It became hard to find people to help, especially as the older members grew tired. With rural areas losing young people and closing schools and shops, village life seemed to be disappearing.( 越来越难找到帮忙的人,尤其是年长的村民们日渐年迈力衰。随着农村地区年轻人不断流失、学校和商店接连关闭,乡村生活似乎正在逐渐消逝。)”可知,活动的组织者逐渐年老疲惫,而农村的年轻人也不断外流,这是导致活动衰落的根本原因。故选C项。 【26题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“But summer festivals are making an unexpected comeback. Organizers report that more money is being raised than before. One reason is the growing number of middle- class newcomers from cities.( 但夏日节日正意外地迎来复苏。组织者表示,如今筹集到的资金比以往更多。其中一个原因是来自城市的中产新移民数量不断增加。)”以及第四段中“In Witcham, the World Peashoot Championships are co- chaired by Eleanor Herring, who moved there in 2021. In Compton, most committee members are people who have come to live there only recently.( 在威肯,世界豌豆锦标赛由埃莉诺·赫林(Eleanor Herring)共同主持,她于2021年搬到那里。 C Scientists have long wanted to find signs in the body, called biomarkers, that show our biological age or predict health problems. A. Dogs age faster than humans. B. Metabolites are building blocks of life. C. Many blood molecules change with age. D. Gut bacteria produce important metabolites. 30. What is key to ptmAAs levels? A. Gut bacteria. B. Breed and size. C Protein breakdown. D. Kidney performance 31. What is the main goal of the research according to Promislow? A. Ensure healthy aging. B. Increase dog muscles. C. Treat aging diseases. D. Change gut bacteria. 【答案】28. C 29. C 30. D 31. A 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了“狗衰老研究计划”的最新发现。研究团队通过分析狗的血液样本,揭示了部分分子随狗年龄变化的规律,以及肾功能对狗健康衰老的重要影响。 【28题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中“A new study on dogs, which are good models because they share genes (基因), diseases, and living conditions with humans, has found clues that may help us understand aging in pets and people.(一项以狗狗为研究对象的新研究发现了或许能帮助我们理解宠物与人类衰老机制的线索——狗是理想的研究模型,因为它们与人类在基因、易患疾病及生活环境方面均有相似之处。)”可知,狗是理想的研究模型原因在于它们与人类共享基因和生活环境。故选C。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段中“About 40% of small molecules in dog blood change as dogs get older.(随着狗狗年龄增长,其血液中约40%的小分子物质会发生变化。)”可知,研究的核心发现是40%血液中的小分子会随着年龄变化。故选C。 【30题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段中“Kidneys normally remove protein byproducts from the blood. When kidney function gets worse, ptmAAs build up.(肾脏通常会从血液中清除蛋白质代谢产物,而当肾功能下降时,翻译后修饰氨基酸会在体内蓄积。)”可知,肾功能是清除这些代谢物、控制其血液浓度的关键。故选D。 【31题详解】 细节理解题。根据第六段中“We have a great chance to understand aging and find ways for both humans and dogs to grow older in the healthiest way possible.(我们有一个相当好的机会既能深入理解衰老机制,也能找到让人类与狗狗都能以最健康方式变老的方法。)”可知,研究的最终目标是找到实现最健康老龄化的方法。故选A。 D While Tesla’s Model S was not the first car with a touchscreen, its simple design and large display quickly started a new trend in the auto industry. Soon, most new cars used big screens to control everything from air conditioning to music and even safety systems such as lane- keeping assistance. But are touchscreens safe? The argument against them is clear: if using a phone while driving is risky, then using a car screen must be similar. 【答案】32. D 33. A 34. A 35. C 【解析】 【导语】本文是一篇议论文。文章主要讨论了汽车触摸屏的安全性问题,并提及了行业对此的回应。 【32题详解】 细节理解题。根据第二段“But are touchscreens safe? These actions can easily distract drivers.(但触摸屏安全吗?反对使用触摸屏的理由显而易见:如果开车时使用手机有风险,那么使用车载屏幕肯定也类似。实体按钮让驾驶员能够凭借触感和记忆在不转移视线的情况下更改设置。而平面屏幕无法提供物理反馈,找到正确的选项可能需要多次点击。这些操作很容易分散驾驶员的注意力。)”可知,反对触摸屏的主要论点是它们会分散司机的注意力。故选D。 【33题详解】 词句猜测题。根据第三段“Many studies corroborate these worries. A British report even found that using touchscreens can slow reaction time more than driving after drinking alcohol (酒精)。 故选A。 【34题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“A 2022 Swedish test asked drivers to change radio stations or adjust temperature while driving at 110 km/h. In older cars with buttons, all tasks took less than ten seconds. From January, Euro NCAP, a European car safety program, will require cars to have real buttons for important functions like turn signals and wipers (雨刷) if they want a five- star safety rating. The rule is not law, but the rating strongly affects sales. As a result, many brands, including Volkswagen, Hyundai, and Porsche, are bringing buttons back. They say drivers prefer them and feel safer using them.(安全组织已经开始做出回应。 Whether you’re a professional athlete or just like to play sports, doing your best starts with a healthy mind. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】 “You should do it,” my husband said, pushing me forward. His words surprised me. Before I could think, all eyes were on me, my heart racing. I wanted to refuse — too busy with kids and chores, too tired for new commitments. But gazing at the library, I remembered the joy it had given me since childhood. This wasn't just a job; it was a passion. I took a deep breath and nodded quietly. No words were needed; I was following my heart. My husband smiled, and my worries eased. The moment I stepped into the library, I felt a strange calm. The lovely smell of old books wrapped around me like a warm blanket. Sunlight streamed through the windows, lighting up dancing dust motes. For the first time in years, no one needed anything from me. Gently touching the books, each one held countless stories. Here, I was not a mom or a teacher, but simply myself. In that quiet, soft space, I had found the peace and self-care my heart had long been seeking. 1】But gazing at the library, I remembered the joy it had given me since childhood. (运用了现在分词作状语和省略that/ which的定语从句) 【高分句型2】Sunlight streamed through the windows, lighting up dancing dust motes. (运用了现在分词作状语) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
