Though fireworks()on Bonfire Night bring joy to many people,it is likely to be a night of fright and pain for the UK's
geese.
Research by Anglia Ruskin University has found that firework displays(cause wild birds to suffer significant
pain, and researchers have recommended that displays should not take place in areas with large wildlife populations.A
study, published in the journal Conservation Physiology,is one of the first carried out into the effects of fireworks on
wildlife. It found that the heart rate of geese increased by 96%when they were influenced by firework displays.
The study involved 20 wild greylag geese fitted with recorders to record their heart rates and body temperatures, which
are measures of physiological stress.Claudia Wascher, who led the research, found that the average heart rate increased from
63 to 124 beats per minute, and their average body temperature increased from 38Cto 39Cin the first hour of firework
displays. It took the geese about five hours to display normal body temperatures.
"Ours is one of the first scientific studies to examine whether fireworks disturb wildlife. There have been previous
studies showing that fireworks can cause anxiety in pets, for example in dogs, but little research has been done into how
animals in the wild react. We need to carry out further research to conclusively tell whether the geese are reacting to the
noise or the light pollution from the fireworks,or a combination of both. Many people get a lot of enjoyment from fireworks
but it's important that we consider animals both pets and wildlife-whenever planning a display,"Wascher said.
1.What advice do researchers give according to the findings of the study?

B.Great attention should be paid to the UK's geese.
C.Firework displays should be held without harming wildlife.
D.Firework displays should take place to bring joy to people.
2.Why were 20 wild greylag geese fitted with recorders?
A.To measure their physiological stress.
B.To make them safe and sound in the wild
C.To keep their body temperatures normal.
D.To compare the heart rates between them.
3.How long do the geese need to get over the effect of firework displays on body temperatures?
A.About four hours.
B.About five hours.C.About six hours.
D.About ten hours.
4.What might Wascher's further research be about?
A.The influence of a display on pets and wildlife.
B.Whether fireworks influence other wild animals
C.The relations between light pollution from fireworks and geese.
D.The effects of noise and light pollution from fireworks on geese.
The Matschie's tree kangaroo is one species of tree kangaroos, most of which are endangered.A tree kangaroo is about
the size of a raccoon(and weighs around 19 pounds.They live in the high canopy()of the rainforest,about 100
to 150 feet in the air.The Matschie's tree kangaroo is orange and brown with a face that looks like a teddy bear. They can jump
60 feet to the ground from trees without getting hurt.
In 1996,Dr.Lisa Dabek helped found the Tree Kangaroo Conservation Program(TKCP).16 years later, though still
endangered, the population of the Matschie's tree kangaroo was under control.Much of the success is because of the work of
Dabek, the senior conservation scientist at the Woodland Park Zoo in Seattle,Washington, and director of TKCP.
According to Dabek,TKCP needed to cooperate(合作)with the local clans(家族),some of whom kill tree kangaroos
for food or other reasons.Dabek said,"We and the clans reached an agreement. The clans would set aside a part of their
land as a no hunting area'.But they could continue to hunt on their other land.In total they set aside 180,000 acres of
land. They called this a 'Wildlife Bank'."
Animal behavior has always been interesting.Dr.Dabek said,"When I was 8 years old,a friend and I wrote down what we
wanted to be when we grew up and put it inside an envelope that we would open when we were teenagers. When I opened it,I
was reminded that I wanted to be an animal trainer. And that is kind of like what I am today."
1.What can we know about Matschie's tree kangaroos?
A.They face the possibility of dying out.
B.They are the only species of tree kangaroos.

A
All animals exist in a network, connected and supported by each other. That's why our global focus today should be on
saving animals from extinction.By doing so,we are certainly keeping an ecological balance.
7
Support comp anies that promote environmental protection
When shopping either from your local or online stores,go for those companies with eco-friendly things.Whether looking for
shoes,toys,bags or others,you can choose reusable products.2
Avoid harmful pesticides
Harmful pesticides have resulted in much animal loss. They might be good for killing pests.3The chemicals enter into
the soil and last a long time, thus endangering native wildlife species.Even worse, they spread throughout the food, causing
damage to other large animals.
4
Don't buy things made of horns, ivory and others that endanger animals. This saves the animals and their habitats.Even
when traveling,be careful when buying souvenirs. Some could have been made from endangered animal products like ivory. It's
important to research the product before you can make the decision to buy.
Drive carefully
This is one of the easiest things you can do to join in animal protection.5.This will help reduce the road danger to
endangered wildlife.Reducing car speed can reduce the animal accidents as much as possible.
A.Buy fewer products
B.Avoid harmful black market products
C.Here are what you can do to save endangered species
D.When driving near forests or animal reserves, don't go fast
E.Sadly, they also leave a lasting terrible effect on native species
F.These products help reduce the damage to forests or animal habitats
G.Avoiding the use of these chemicals can help save endangered animals
B
U.N.Report Warns Nature Crisis
A new U.N.report focuses on the negative effects of human activities on nature. It says one million plant and animal species
on land,in the sea and in the sky are now in danger of extinction.
The 1,800-page report took three years to finish.
1 The Earth has always suffered from human activities,it
says. However, these scratches()have become deep scars()over the past50years.Species are going extinct several hundred
times faster than the average rate during the past ten million years. It's something that has never happened before in human history.
2 Since 1970,the human population has doubled. The global economy has grown by four times. To feed, clothe and give
energy to this fast-changing world, lots of forests have been cut down.3 Furthermore, hunting, overfishing and pollution have also
been killing species in great numbers.
The problem can be fixed, the report says.4The amount of land and sea that are under protection needs to increase
rapidly. The report suggests governments move away from using GDP as a key measure of development.Long-term effects must be
considered,too
Professor Eduardo Brondizio of Indiana University is an author of the report. He says,"We all know what needs to be done. The
knowledge is there..5”
A.However,this requires many changes
B.Over 120 wildlife species are facing extinction.
C.Only experts know how to address the problem.
D.The report listed several causes of the situation.
E.There just needs to be a greater will to take action.
F.It draws on()the work of 450 scientists from dozens of countries.
G.Between 1980 and 2000,one million square kilometers of tropical forests were lost.备战2026高考主题测试题一人与动植物参考答案

U.N.Report Warns Nature Crisis
A new U.N.report focuses on the negative effects of human activities on nature. It says one million plant and animal species on land,in the sea and in the sky are now in danger of extinction.
The 1,800-page report took three years to finish. 1 The Earth has always suffered from human activities,it says. However, these scratches(划伤)have become deep scars(伤疤)over the past50years.Species are going extinct several hundred times faster than the average rate during the past ten million years. It's something that has never happened before in human history.
2 Since 1970,the human population has doubled. The global economy has grown by four times. To feed, clothe and give energy to this fast-changing world, lots of forests have been cut down.3 Furthermore, hunting, overfishing and pollution have also been killing species in great numbers.
The problem can be fixed, the report says. 4 The amount of land and sea that are under protection needs to increase rapidly. The report suggests governments move away from using GDP as a key measure of development.Long-term effects must be considered, too.
Professor Eduardo Brondizio of Indiana University is an author of the report. He says,“We all know what needs to be done. The knowledge is there.5”
A.However,this requires many changes.
B.Over 120 wildlife species are facing extinction.
C.Only experts know how to address the problem.
D.The report listed several causes of the situation.
E.There just needs to be a greater will to take action.
F.It draws on(利用)the work of 450 scientists from dozens of countries.
G.Between 1980 and 2000,one million square kilometers of tropical forests were lost.
