M: Carla, the first thing you did was change the way you worked. Why? W: I used to have a busy job. It was interesting, so I never got stressed or needed time off like some of my colleagues, who became ill. I traveled all over the world. Then, suddenly I realized I was living in hotels and I thought “You know what? I’d like to spend more time in my own house”. M: And now you run your own business. W: Yes, and I choose which hours I work. I can stop when I want to. And I still go on holidays often — but that’s my choice instead of my company’s. Some people who leave big companies miss the big salaries, but that doesn’t bother me. M: Do you do more exercise now? W: I spend about the same amount of time exercising as I did before. However, instead of doing it between work and dinner, I get up at 5 am and exercise then. I’m into yoga, because it relaxes my body and mind. I’ve never really enjoyed team sports or athletics. M: You’re still a busy person. Do you have any time-saving advice? W: Many people think checking emails or messages on the bus to work or school and making a list of things to do can save time. But the thing that works well for me is having lots of clothes which are similar, so you don’t have to think about what to put on in the morning! 17. Where do the pilots get the water? A. From a river. B. From a lake. C. From a pond. 18. What is the most dangerous part of the job? A. Picking up water. B. Running in front of the fire. C. Flying high above the trees. 19. What can we learn from the text? A. The firefighters did a good job. B. The plane’s tanks were too small. C. The crew were not experienced enough. 20. What is the speaker? A. A fire fighter. B. A program host. C. A news reporter. B 18. A 19. A 20. M: In a forest in Minnesota, a fire starts and quickly spreads. At the Minnesota Fire Center, Mary Locke takes the call and then the other fire rangers go into action. The helicopter crew sends information about the fire back to the Fire Center. And then it’s the turn of the crew of the CL2-15 to take off. The CL2-15 is no ordinary plane. It is a fire-fighting plane. The pilots have to be very experienced. They are going to pick up water from this lake. It can be a dangerous job. The CL2-15 is flying at 140 kilometers per hour now. The pilot must be very careful. If he makes a mistake, the plane will crash. It’s time to open the water tanks on the plane. The plane picks up water from the lake. This is the most dangerous time for the crew. But the pilot does his job and picks up more than 5,000 liters of water. Then it’s time to put out the fire. The pilot has to fly low over the trees to hit the fire. He also needs to wet the ground in front of the fire so it can’t spread. The water drops on the fire. It’s a good hit. But the fire is a big one — the fire rangers have to go back to the lake. In just two minutes, the plane is ready again. The crew has to drop water 20 times to put out the fire. At last, it’s time for the fire rangers to go home, until the next time. A The following are a series of new parks that have opened around the world in the last two years. Research conducted by psychologists suggests that the simple act of smiling can actively influence our emotions and physiology. This phenomenon is linked to the “facial feedback hypothesis.” What this theory proposes is that our facial expressions can send feedback to our brain, affecting our emotional state. Forcing a smile during a stressful situation, even if you don’t feel like it, can lead to a lower heart rate and reduce the intensity of stress. It is as though the brain interprets the muscle movements of a smile as happiness, leading to a genuine improvement in mood. The benefits extend beyond stress reduction. Smiling is seen as a friendly and approachable signal in social interactions. It can break down barriers, apologise without words, and make difficult conversations easier. Experts, who have studied this for years, recommend smiling at yourself in the mirror to start the day on a positive note. Understanding the science behind a smile provides us with a powerful, readily available tool. It’s not about denying negative emotions but about using our body’s own mechanisms to cultivate resilience. Whether it’s a slight curve of the lips or a broad grin, the message is clear: the simple act of smiling holds the potential to change not only how others perceive us but also how we experience the world ourselves. It is indeed a small gesture with a significant impact. 24. What can be inferred if someone forces a smile during a brief stressful task? A. Their heart rate will likely rise significantly. B. Their muscle fatigue will immediately disappear. C. Their emotional state will remain completely unchanged. D. Their perceived stress intensity may decrease. 25. Which social function of smiling is mentioned in the passage? A. Replacing spoken apologies. B. Increasing personal attractiveness instantly. C. Resolving all interpersonal conflicts. D. Guaranteeing successful negotiations. 26. What specific recommendation do experts give to start the day positively? A. Avoid looking in the mirror. B. Smile at oneself in the mirror. C. Perform 30 minutes of cardio exercise. D. Write down three negative thoughts. 27. How does the author view the act of smiling? A. As a meaningless social habit. B. As only effective when it is genuine. C. As a readily available self-help mechanism. D. As a replacement for medical treatment. D 25. A 26. B 27. 根据第二段“Forcing a smile during a stressful situation, even if you don’t feel like it, can lead to a lower heart rate and reduce the intensity of stress. (在有压力的情况下,即使你并不想笑,也强迫自己微笑,这样做能降低心率并减轻压力的强度)”可知,在短暂的压力任务中强迫微笑,感知到的压力强度可能会降低。故选D。 【25题详解】 细节理解题。根据第三段“Smiling is seen as a friendly and approachable signal in social interactions. It can break down barriers, apologise without words, and make difficult conversations easier. (微笑在社交互动中被视为友好且平易近人的信号。它能打破隔阂,无需言语就能表达歉意,让困难的对话变得更容易)”可知,文中提到的微笑的社交功能包括替代口头道歉。故选A。 根据第三段“Experts, who have studied this for years, recommend smiling at yourself in the mirror to start the day on a positive note. (研究这一现象多年的专家建议,对着镜子对自己微笑,以积极的状态开启一天)”可知,专家给出的开启积极一天的具体建议是对着镜子微笑。故选B。 【27题详解】 细节理解题。根据第四段“Understanding the science behind a smile provides us with a powerful, readily available tool. It’s not about denying negative emotions but about using our body’s own mechanisms to cultivate resilience. (了解微笑背后的科学原理,为我们提供了一个强大且容易获取的工具。这不是要否认负面情绪,而是利用身体自身的机制培养适应力)”可知,作者认为微笑是一种容易获取的自助机制。故选C。 C How’s this for a coincidence (巧合)? Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln were born in the same year, on the same day: Feb. 12, 1809. Although people hardly think of them together, we want to say that they belong together. It’s not just because they are both great men, and not because they happened to live at the same time. Rather, it’s because the scientist and the politician each started a revolution that changed the world. They are both revolutionaries in the sense that both men changed the reality when they were born. They seem and sound modern to us, because the world they left behind them is more or less the one we still live in. So, considering the joint greatness of their contributions and the coincidence of their birthdays—it is hard to wonder: who was the greatest man? It’s an apples and oranges-or Superman vs. Santa-comparison. But if you limit the question to influence, very quickly the balance tips in Lincoln’s favor. As great as his book on evolution is, it does no harm to remember that Darwin hurried to publish The Origin of Species because he thought he was about to be scooped (抢先) by his fellow naturalist Alfred Russel Wallace. Lincoln, however, is unique. True, his election as the president did cause the recession (经济衰退) and the war, but that war seemed certain to happen—not a question of if but when. Certainly we know what happened after he was murdered: Reconstruction was organized and then abandoned, leaving the issue of racial (种族的) equality unsolved for another century. Surely we should not deny Darwins’ accomplishment. But their same birthdays gave us great opportunity to observe these men of their time. 28. Why does the author say Charles Darwin and Abraham Lincoln belong together? A. They were born on the same day. B. They lived in the same period of time. C. They started revolutions changing the world. D. They were both great men in history. 29. What does the author mean by “an apples and oranges-or Superman vs. Santa-comparison”? A. It is hard to tell which one is greater as they are both outstanding. B. The comparison between Darwin and Lincoln is easy and obvious. C. It is difficult to compare them as they are as famous as Superman and Santa. D. There is no point comparing them because they were born on the same day. 30. Which of the following can best describe Lincoln’s contributions to the world? A. Narrow. B. Objective. C. Challenging. D. Groundbreaking. 31. What can we learn from the passage? A. Lincoln’s success in election caused Reconstruction. B. Lincoln had tried to solve the racial problem. C. Darwin was unique compared with Lincoln. D. Darwin,s theory is similar to Lincoln’s belief. C 29. A 30. D 31. 根据第一段中“Although people hardly think of them together, we want to say that they belong together. It’s not just because they are both great men, and not because they happened to live at the same time. Rather, it’s because the scientist and the politician each started a revolution that changed the world.(虽然人们很少想到他们在一起,但我们想说,他们是属于彼此。这不只是因为他们都是伟人,也不是因为他们碰巧生活在同一时间。相反,这是因为科学家和政治家各自开始了一场改变世界的革命)”可知,作者说查尔斯·达尔文和亚伯拉罕·林肯属于彼此,是因为他们开始了改变世界的革命。故选C。 【29题详解】 词句猜测题。根据画线句前文“So, considering the joint greatness of their contributions and the coincidence of their birthdays—it is hard to wonder: who was the greatest man?” 根据第三段中“Lincoln, however, is unique. ”可知,林肯的贡献是独一无二的,也就是说林肯的贡献是开创性的,故选D。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据第三段中“Certainly we know what happened after he was murdered: Reconstruction was organized and then abandoned, leaving the issue of racial (种族的) equality unsolved for another century. ”可知,当然,我们知道在林肯被谋杀后发生了什么:重建被组织起来,然后被放弃,使得(林肯曾致力于解决的)种族平等这一问题在下一个世纪也没有得到解决。由此判断出,林肯曾试图解决种族问题,故选B。 D Media literacy (素养) is finally getting some late-arriving attention. Whether it’s the increasing awareness of political disinformation or the threat of AI, discussions about media literacy are on the rise. The adoption of media literacy in the classroom, however, stagnates. The driving force for providing kids with media literacy skills often gets lost in the moral panic over technology and kids. Fear has overrun reason, and people can’t decide whether to blame social media, mobile devices, tech companies, or the Internet. They are concerned with claims that technology and social media are the causes of teenage mental health issues despite the weak associations. In response, too many solutions are “ostrich policies (鸵鸟政策) ” that want to ban devices and shut down social media but don’t address more fundamental issues. Policies that set age limits on social media access and restrict devices during school to minimize disturbance can be helpful but are incomplete solutions. Social media didn’t invent bullies (霸凌) or the enormous effect of peer pressure. Social media platforms may be a new battleground, but they are not the source. Unfortunately, many current policies ignore the need to teach kids how to manage these challenges. There is frighteningly little attention paid to preparing kids to make good decisions when they will, unavoidably, get online. On the bright side, the rapid development of AI and increasing attention to the amount of misinformation online have helped normalize the acceptance of media literacy as a core skill. While suggestions to limit inappropriate device use, increase face-to-face socialization, and engage in outdoor play arc beneficial, they do not build the core skills that will keep kids safe offline and are fundamental to well-being and life success: good citizenship, self-awareness and self-control. Those things take teaching, whether you are online or outside. Media literacy is an essential life skill that, once learned, can be applied to any content. While waiting for public education to catch up, parents and educators can build media literacy skills at home with numerous resources, ranging from family technology contracts and discussion guides to easy activities that can be done at home with kids. 32. What does the underlined word “stagnates” in the first paragraph probably mean? A. Gets far ahead. B. Falls apart suddenly. C. Falls well short. D. Gets started officially. 33. What causes people’s moral panic over technology and kids? A. Belief in the rapid growth of new technologies B. Concern over cutting kids off from the Internet C. Inability to balance the use of social media and health. D. Fear of technology causing mental health issues in teenagers. 34. What does paragraph 3 of the text focus on? A. The sources of peer pressure. B. The benefits of minimizing disturbance. C. The problems of current policies. D. The disadvantages of social media platforms 35. Which of the following belongs to media literacy? A. Reducing social media exposure. B. Applying critical thinking to media. C. Increasing face-to-face interactions. D. Recognizing the dangers of social media 【答案】32. C 33. D 34. C 35. 根据第一段中“Whether it’s the increasing awareness of political disinformation or the threat of AI, discussions about media literacy are on the rise.(无论是对政治虚假信息的日益意识,还是人工智能的威胁,关于媒体素养的讨论都在增加)”以及划线单词句中“The adoption of media literacy in the classroom, however, …(然而,媒体素养在课堂上的普及却……)” 根据第二段中“The driving force for providing kids with media literacy skills often gets lost in the moral panic over technology and kids. Fear has overrun reason, and people can’t decide whether to blame social media, mobile devices, tech companies, or the Internet. They are concerned with claims that technology and social media are the causes of teenage mental health issues despite the weak associations.(在对科技和孩子的道德恐慌中,为孩子们提供媒体素养技能的驱动力往往会消失。恐惧已经超越了理性,人们无法决定是归咎于社交媒体、移动设备、科技公司还是互联网。他们担心科技和社交媒体是青少年心理健康问题的原因,尽管两者之间的联系很弱)”可知,对科技的恐惧导致青少年的心理健康问题导致了人们对科技和孩子的道德恐慌。故选D项。 【34题详解】 主旨大意题。根据第三段中“Policies that set age limits on social media access and restrict devices during school to minimize disturbance can be helpful but are incomplete solutions. Social media didn’t invent bullies (霸凌) or the enormous effect of peer pressure. Social media platforms may be a new battleground, but they are not the source. Unfortunately, many current policies ignore the need to teach kids how to manage these challenges.(设置社交媒体使用年龄限制和在校期间限制使用电子设备以尽量减少干扰的政策可能会有所帮助,但这是不完整的解决方案。社交媒体并没有发明欺凌或同伴压力的巨大影响。社交媒体平台可能是一个新的战场,但它们不是源头。不幸的是,许多现行政策忽视了教育孩子如何应对这些挑战的必要性)”可知,第三段主要关注的是当前政策的问题。故选C项。 【35题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段“Media literacy is an essential life skill that, once learned, can be applied to any content. While waiting for public education to catch up, parents and educators can build media literacy skills at home with numerous resources, ranging from family technology contracts and discussion guides to easy activities that can be done at home with kids.(媒体素养是一项重要的生活技能,一旦学会,就可以应用于任何内容。 How to Stop Being a People Pleaser As a recovering people pleaser, I spent much of my life keeping others happy. Breaking this habit meant stepping on a few toes. However, I’ve become a happier person as a result. Here are some tips I used to stop being a people pleaser. Identify your priorities. Take a moment to think about why you are trying to learn how to stop being a people pleaser. Many people pleasers are insecure about who they are. ____39____ Check out our summary of Brené Brown’s the Gifts of Imperfection to learn how to accept your imperfections and love yourself. No matter what you do there will always be someone who is unhappy with your choices.(记住,你不可能取悦所有人。 And why bother trying to please everyone if it isn’t possible?(那么,如果不可能的话,为什么还要费心去取悦每个人呢?) The Nobel Prize is considered one of the most recognizable and admirable awards possible, ___41___ people of the world for their outstanding achievements in different fields. For years she was a volunteer in our community. I love going to the local nursing home to help with her when I was a child. However, once I became a teenager, I was too caught up in my adolescent world to worry about helping others. One particular summer day when I was 12, Mom came into my room and told me to get up and meet her at the car. But I had planned to spend the day at the lake with friends. Why did she have to ruin everything? At last, I made my way outside with my mother. Angry and annoyed, I climbed into the car and shoot the door loudly. I sat in silence, too upset to talk. “Tasha, do you know where we are going?” Mom asked calmly. I remained silent. “Sweetheart, we’re going to the children’s shelter. I have been there before and I think it would benefit you,” she explained. I feel a pain slowly form in my stomach. How was I supposed to help there? When we reached the shelter, I was rather surprised. As we approached the front door, wind bells played a calming tune while trees and flowers welcomed us. Maybe this wasn’t going to be so. Mom rang the doorbell. We were led to the front room, where all of the children were playing. Toys were spread out across the floor. I noticed a baby whose body was seriously wounded. Most of the children had noticeable physical scars such as cuts, burns and scratches. What a terrible life they must had had before they moved here! My heart sank. As I was looking around, I felt a gentle pull on my shirt. I looked down to find a little girl with brown eyes looking up at me. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ I returned to the shelter with mum several times. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】One possible version: I looked down to see a little girl with brown eyes looking up at me. Her angelic face lighted, although there were some scars on her little arms. “Hi. I’m Ashley. Do you want to play dolls with me?” she asked. I looked over and saw Mom nodding to me with a smile. I bent toward Ashley and whispered, “Sure. I’d love to.” Her tiny hand reached up and took mine, and we walked toward the doll house. Our time together brought her great joy and fun and she also made my day. I returned to the sheer with Mom several times. During those visits, some of the children including Ashley shared their troubled pasts with me in great detail. I felt sorry for what had happened to them and treasured the friendship between us. I would like to do everything in my power to help the children there. At the same time, I learned to be grateful for all that I had. It was a meaningful time in my young life that I will never forget. It was Mom who taught me the valuable lesson that summer. 低语:whisper/murmur ②.抬手:reach up/raise up ③.发生:happen to/occur to 情绪类 ①.感谢:show one’s appreciation/show one’s gratitude/be grateful ②.快乐:joy/happiness 【点睛】[高分句型1] I felt sorry for what had happened to them and treasured the friendship between us. 25 Which social function of smiling is mentioned in the passage? C How’s this for a coincidence (巧合)? Certainly we know what happened after he was murdered: Reconstruction was organized and then abandoned, leaving the issue of racial (种族) equality unsolved for another century. D Media literacy (素养) is finally getting some late-arriving attention. Social media platforms may be a new battleground but they are not the source. Unfortunately, many current policies ignore the need to teach kids how to manage these challenges. There is frighteningly little attention paid to preparing kids to make good decisions when they will, unavoidably, get online. On the bright side the rapid development of AI and increasing attention to the amount of misinformation online have helped normalize the acceptance of media literacy as a core skill. D. Recognizing the dangers of social media How to Stop Being a People Pleaser As a recovering people pleaser, I spent much of my life keeping others happy. She was kind and caring, and always made people comfortable in her presence. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
