Xiaohe is a 31-year-old digger (挖掘机) driver. He is a common man but he did something really good. He describes it in a simple sentence: “I see a hole and I fill it.” His story didn’t begin with joy, but it is full of kindness. In February 2024, Xiaohe was stuck (堵塞) on a snowy highway (高速公路) in Hubei Province. On the third day, he was running out of food. Luckily, some villagers arrived. They gave him some food and hot water, which saved him from hunger and cold.
Xiaohe always remembered their kindness. He was deeply moved and wanted to do something good for others. In June, he decided to drive a digger across the Xizang Autonomous Region (西藏自治区). He wanted to help others on his trip, just as he had once been helped. One day, on the 22nd day of his journey, he came across a big hole in the road. This hole was dangerous because it could damage (损害) passing cars. Xiaohe quickly filled the hole with a bucket (桶) of stones to make the road safer for everyone.
That night, he posted a video of his work online. It quickly became popular. Over the past six months, Xiaohe has repaired more than 7,000 holes in the road. The videos of his work have won him millions of followers (关注者). “Xiaohe isn’t just fixing roads; he’s rebuilding trust and hope,” said one of his followers. “He shows how one person can make a difference, even with just a digger.”

New rules and behaviour standards (行为规范) for middle school students came out (颁布) in August. Middle schools are going to use a new way to decide who the top students are. The best students won’t only have high marks. The following are some of the new rules.
Tell the truth. Have you ever cheated (作弊) in an exam? Don’t do it again. That’s not something honest students should do.
Do more at school. Good students love animals and care for other people. April is Bird Loving Month in China. Is your school doing anything to celebrate it? You should join! In that way, you can learn more about animals and how to protect them.
Be open to new ideas. Have you ever thought people could live on the moon? Maybe you’ll find another Earth in space in the future. Everyone’s new ideas are important.
Protect yourself. Has a thief ever taken money from one of your classmates? Don’t let it happen to you. If you have to go back home late, you should let your parents know.

Joking can be a cheerful thing. However, sometimes people may see it differently. Some people may get hurt if there are too many jokes. When you show you can’t accept the jokes, the jokes might get worse.
We should consider the relationships when joking. Close friends usually enjoy teasing (开玩笑). Healthy teasing can usually make people relaxed. When both sides know it’s just joking, they can understand each other better. The environment is also important for close relationships. It doesn’t matter when your sister calls your nickname (绰号) at home. However, it’s quite bad when a classmate shouts it out at school.
When making a joke, we often see the funny side of it. But others may see it in a different way. Sometimes we forget the other person may not find it funny. People have different life experiences, so they understand jokes differently. For example, imagine someone not swimming at a pool party. Others might tease him or her about being unable to swim. But maybe that person is just afraid of water. Keep in mind that people may have their own reasons for not seeing the funny side.
It’s a good way to build good friendships by respecting others. In daily life, we should pay attention to our words when playing jokes.

Day after day, the rose never stopped being unkind to the cactus. The cactus, however, never got sad or angry. Instead, he always calmly said, “All lives have meaning.”
As summer came, it was hot and dry. The rose began to weaken, but the cactus grew well. He had a wide root system (根系) and was good at storing water in his body.
One day, the rose saw a bird make a small hole in the cactus with its beak (喙). The thirsty bird drank the water inside the cactus through the hole.
“It must hurt,” said the rose.

High-speed trains
By the end of 2016, China had the world’s largest high-speed railway network. More than 2,500 high-speed trains are running across China each day. Online shopping
You are out if you have never shopped online. Now you can buy almost everything from websites, and get what you’ve bought within days. China’s online shopping makes many foreigners feel both excited and surprised.

Long ago, ancient China gifted the world four great creations: papermaking, printing, the compass, and gunpowder. These great inventions once changed the world. Today, China is surprising the globe again with its “New Four Great Inventions”, which are reshaping modern life.
First is high-speed rail. China has built the world’s largest network of these high-speed trains, which are incredibly fast and comfortable. The trains can run at a speed of up to 350 km/h, which has made traveling between cities as easy as a short bus ride, connecting people and places like never before.
Next is mobile payment. In many Chinese cities, people no longer need to carry cash. They can pay for almost anything—from a street snack to a taxi ride—by simply scanning a QR code with a cellphone. It’s quick, safe, and super convenient.
Another invention is bike-sharing. These colorful shared bikes can be seen on almost every street corner. You can easily unlock one with your phone, ride to your destination, and leave it there for the next person. It’s a green solution for short trips.
Finally, there is e-commerce or online shopping. Giant online platforms allow people to buy anything they need—from clothes to fresh groceries—with a few taps on their phone. These goods are often delivered to your door in just hours.

Wherever we go, no matter how old we are, we must follow safety rules. Though many people might not see the purpose of stopping at a stop sign or driving at the speed limit, rules keep us safe.
People start to learn about the importance of rules when they are children. There are many rules that teach children how to keep themselves and their friends safe. For example, children learn safety rules when they walk in the hallway at school. They are told not to run because they may hurt themselves or run into another student. In the lunch room, children are taught to sit nicely while they are eating to avoid being choked (噎住). In the playground, they are told to use the equipment (设备) properly. For example, they should not go down the slide backward or climb up the slide when someone is going down because there can be an accident.
High school students will also be given safety rules but at a different level than younger children. High school students may be taught, for example, safety rules in the science lab. Lab safety is very important because if one thing is done wrong, it can result in a fire or a bad accident.
1.Why must we follow the safety rules?
2.What is told when the children walk in the hallway at school?

5.主观发挥题,答案合理即可。故填We shouldn’t run into the classroom. We mustn’t ride a bike in school.
It can be very dangerous if there is a flood. It can happen with no notice and can usually wash trees and cars away, even break buildings. What should you do when the flood comes? Please read carefully the following information.
●Stay away from rivers and bridges, because floods can cause rivers to move quickly and bridges to fall down.
●Listen to emergency broadcasts for further information. If it asks you to move somewhere else, do so.
●If you are staying inside a car, get out when the water begins to flood the car itself. Then move to the top of it.
●If you have to stay in a building at the time of a flood, move to the highest floor. Only move to the roof if necessary. Once there, ask for help and let others know where you are (such as drawing SOS on the roof).
●Don’t touch power lines (电线), because they might be broken during strong storms and floods. A fallen power line can cause water nearby to become dangerous. If someone touches it, he will die.

1.根据“It can happen with no notice and can usually wash trees and cars away, even break buildings.”可知,洪水可能毫无征兆地突然发生,而且通常会将树木和汽车冲走,甚至会损坏建筑物,所以是很危险的。故填Because it can happen with no notice and can usually wash trees and cars away, even break buildings.
2.根据“●Stay away from rivers and bridges…●Listen to emergency broadcasts for further information…●If you are staying inside a car…●If you have to stay in a building at the time of a flood…●Don’t touch power lines (电线)…”可知,文章介绍了五条信息。故填5./There are 5 pieces of information.
3.根据“Don’t touch power lines (电线), because they might be broken during strong storms and floods.”可知,在强风暴和洪水期间,电线可能会断裂。故填During strong storms and floods.
4.本题为开放性题目,言之有理即可,答案包括“两种具体做法”和“对应的原因”两部分。参考答案为First, we should stay away from rivers and bridges, because floods can cause rivers to move quickly and bridges to fall down. Staying away from them can stop us from falling into the rivers and make us safer. Second, we should listen to emergency broadcasts for further information, because if it asks us to move somewhere else, we should do so to find a safer place.
When you look at a mountain with snow on the top, it looks so beautiful. But that can change very quickly if an avalanche happens.
An avalanche is quite a lot of snow, ice and rocks moving quickly down a mountain, usually on slopes (斜坡) of 30° to 45°. It can move at speeds at 96 km/h to 129 km/h.
Different things can make avalanches happen suddenly. About 90% of avalanches happen because of humans, like climbers and snow mobiles (雪地摩托). Strong winds, earthquakes, and even animals can also make them happen.
Avalanches happen all year around. Most of them are small, but in high mountains, such as the Alps and the Himalayas, they can be very large and dangerous. When it happens, the fast-moving snow, ice and rocks can cover people, all the houses and villages along the way. The snow becomes too hard to move. That can make people under it die of the cold.
However, what can we do to keep safe if we want to climb snow mountains? Education and right training can help. They can give us useful advice. For example, never start climbing when the snow begins melting (融化), especially in spring. Avalanches may happen in this season at any minute. Wait for at least 2 days to start climbing after a snowstorm. Bring useful tools, like a beacon (信标) to help others find you. Phones sometimes don’t work on mountains. Keeping quiet on the mountains is also important.
Anyway, avalanches are part of nature. We need to have respect for the mountains and weather all the time.

2.When was Xiaohe stuck on a snowy highway in Hubei Province?
3.What makes Xiaohe a good person in the story?
4.Do you want to post videos online while traveling? Why or why not?

Use the Internet carefully. The Internet can be very useful for your study. But some things on the Internet aren’t for kids, so try to look at the good websites. You can use the websites for fun or homework.
1.When did the new rules come out?
2.What should you do if you have to go back home late?
3.What can the children use the good websites for?
4.In your opinion, what’s the most important rule to you? Why? (Write 30 words or more)

1.What may happen if there are too many jokes?
2.How do people usually feel about healthy teasing?
3.What is also important for close relationships?
4.Why do people understand jokes differently?
5.How can we build good relationships?

One spring day, there was a beautiful rose in a forest. She greeted her neighbors, including a cactus (仙人掌), an apple tree and other plants. Then, she said to the cactus, “I’m the most beautiful flower here, but you are full of thorns (刺) and so ugly!”
“Yes,” the apple tree said, “but the cactus doesn’t want to see his bird friend in trouble.”
The rose was so thirsty that she asked the cactus for water. He kindly agreed. The bird filled its beak with water and watered the rose’s roots.
The rose was quite sorry for what she had said to the cactus in the past. From then on, she understood that a kind heart is far more important than a good look.

2.How did the bird get water from the cactus? (不超过15 个词)
3.What did the rose learn from the cactus? (不超过15 个词)

“Four great inventions” in ancient China are important symbols of the country. Now China has “new four great inventions”: high-speed trains, mobile payment, bike sharing and online shopping. They are changing people’s lives in China and maybe all over the world.
High-speed trains
By the end of 2016, China had the world’s largest high-speed railway network. More than 2,500 high-speed trains are running across China each day. Lin Jinlong, an overseas student from Cambodia, shared his experience of travelling by Chinese high-speed train from Beijing to Tianjin. The two cities are over 100 km away, but the trip took only about an hour. “That was amazing!” Lin said.
Mobile payment
Mobile payment has become a part of Chinese people’s everyday life. It makes their lives much more convenient. “My wallet is no longer in use. I can buy and eat anything with my smart phone,” said Lin, “Even vegetable sellers are using mobile payment.”
Online shopping
You are out if you have never shopped online. Now you can buy almost everything from websites, and get what you’ve bought within days. China’s online shopping makes many foreigners feel both excited and surprised.
Bike sharing
Bike sharing allows users to pick a bike anywhere in the city and leave it anywhere at the end of their journey. It’s really convenient, cheap and green. Mobile, a bike sharing company, has even brought the service to some other countries.
1.When did China have the world’s largest high-speed railway network?
2.Where can you buy almost everything if you shop online?
3.What does the writer think of bike sharing?
4.Of all the new four great inventions, which is the most useful to you? Why? Write 30 words or more.

China’s spirit of innovation never stops. These New Great Inventions aren’t just helping Chinese people—they’re inspiring and serving people all over the world.

A new bridge—the biggest of its kind ever—started to be used on September 28 in China. The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge is in Guizhou Province, a mountainous area in China. It is now the tallest bridge in the world, standing 625 metres high above the Beipan River.
This great engineering work also has the longest main part among bridges built in rough mountain areas. The whole bridge is 2,890 metres long, and its main part stretches 1,420 metres. It will bring big changes to the region’s economy, transport and travel. Crossing the Beipan River used to take two hours, but now it only takes two minutes. A spokesperson said the bridge will help areas nearby develop better.
China is very good at building bridges. A website called highestbridges.com says the 18 tallest bridges in the world are all built or being built in China. The top three are in Guizhou, which also has over 32,000 other bridges. Almost half of the world’s 100 tallest bridges are there.
The Huajiang Grand Canyon Bridge also uses advanced technology, like a special design to fight strong winds. The spokesperson hopes it will become a popular place for visitors, drawing over one million people every year. It has a cafe, a geological museum and a bungee-jumping spot.

In my daily life, I find that rules are here and there. They help me live and study better. And they play an important role in keeping me healthy, too.
Let’s talk about eating first. There are rules for what and when I should eat. Eating healthy food is really important. I eat more vegetables and fruits with every meal. After all, an apple a day keeps the doctor away. Hamburgers and ice-cream taste great, but I can’t have them too often. They are junk food. Also, I always have my meals on time. Eating breakfast is very important. It gives me energy in the morning. If I don’t eat breakfast, I’ll feel hungry and can’t focus on my studies.
Exercise also has its rules. I need to exercise regularly (有规律地). It’s good to exercise three or four times a week. I usually run, swim, use an exercise app or play ball games. When I run, I start slowly and then go fast. I also warm up before exercising. This helps me not to get hurt. And I never exercise too much because maybe it is bad for my body.
Following these rules about eating and exercising, I stay healthy. I have more energy and can do better in school. In short, rules help me take good care of myself. I always follow them to be healthy and happy.
1.What helps the writer live and study better?
2.Why does the writer think eating breakfast is important?
3.How often is it good for the writer to exercise?
4.What saying (谚语) does the writer mention (提到) in the text?
5.What other rules do you know to keep healthy? Please give an example.
3.What should the children do in the playground?
4.Are there safety rules for high school students?
5.What safety rules do you know in your school? (至少回答两条)
1.Why is it dangerous if there is a flood?
2.How many pieces of information does the passage mention?
3.When might power lines become broken?
4.What should you do if there is a flood and why? Choose two points from the passage and give reasons separately.
