National Park Service (NPS)started keeping records in 1904, its mountain landscapes, seaside wildernesses, and high desert acres have registered more than 16 billion visits. Some of the best-known parks experienced record crowds in 2023. These 4 parks are the superstars of the system, but they offer just a glimpse of the variety to be found. Yosemite National Park “No park made with human hands can compete with Yosemite,” wrote John Muir, whose efforts led to the creation of California’s Yosemite National Park in 1890. Nearly 4 million visitors came to this steep cliffs and towering waterfalls in 2023. Most spent time in Yosemite Valley, a mile-wide, seven-mile-long canyon that was cut by a river. Yellowstone National Park A stop at the Center of the West on your way will enhance your visit to the nation’s very first national park — Yellowstone National Park. It was visited by 4.5 million people in 2023. The vast reserve covering 2.2 million ac re has rocky peaks, explosive geysers, alpine lakes, deep forests, and a wealth of wild animals. Acadia National Park Sea and mountains meet at Acadia National Park in Maine, which saw 3,879,890 people visit in 2023. Most of the park is on Mount Desert Island, a combination of parkland, private property, and waterside villages. Which section of the magazine is this article probably from? A. Sports. B. Travelling. C. Culture. D. Education. B It is a common practice for old clothes to be either thrown away or donated to people in need. But now California has taken a different approach. It has passed the first US clothing recycling law, requiring producers to create a recycling program by 2026. The aim is to fight the growing environmental problems caused by the fast fashion industry and textile (纺织品) waste. The law is not just about recycling but about changing the way people think about textile waste. Textile waste has become a critical environmental issue both in California and worldwide. In the U. S., textile waste has increased nearly ten times since 1960, reaching over 18.7 million tons in 2018, 85 percent of which end up in landfills. Textiles, when left to rot (腐烂), send harmful chemicals into the soil and water, at the same time give out methane, a greenhouse gas. Meanwhile, despite 95% of textiles being recyclable, only 15 percent are reused, highlighting a huge gap between potential and practice. This situation is worsened by the fast fashion industry, where consumers buy cheap, disposable (一次性的) clothing for the purpose of saving money and still looking beautiful. These clothes are intended to last only a few wears before being discarded. These practices not only contribute to environmental problem but also cost people a significant amount of money over the long term. In California alone, over 1.2 million tons of textiles were thrown away in 2021, costing more than $70 million to manage the waste. Fashion brands and textile producers must cooperate to design strategies for effective textile collection, repair, and recycling. For brands like H&M, which have been involved in similar measures in Europe, the change to California’s new system is seen as a step toward sustainability “As a global fashion seller, we have an important role to play, and that is why we are changing our business towards reducing emissions,” said Randi Marshall, H&M’s regional head. Similar recycling programs in France and the Netherlands have provided a blueprint for how California can successfully carry out its law. 24. Why has California passed a new law? A. To stress producers’ responsibility to fight pollution. B. To call on more people to donate their old clothes. C. To help solve environmental problems completely. D. To stop people from throwing their old clothes away. 25. What can we know from paragraph 2? A. The rotten textiles are proved to be beneficial to the soil and water. B. The majority of textile waste has been recycled and reused in the US. C. Textile waste has caused great problems to the environment worldwide. D. The law focuses on changing people’s way of thinking about fashion industry. 26. What does the underlined word “discarded” most probably mean? A. thrown away B. tried on C. put away D. taken off 27. What is this passage mainly talking about? A. The benefits of environmental protection. B. The harm fast fashion industry causes. C. America’s measures in fighting textile waste. D. California’s new clothing recycling law. C For Shi Qinling, a pair of scissors has been with her everywhere she goes for the past decade — not as a means of self-protection, but as an artistic expression. Scissors are to this paper-cutting artist what brushes are to painters, or what pens are to writers. Always taking a pair of scissors allows her to create art whenever inspiration hits. Most of her paper-cutting works are inspired by moments in daily life, such as a neighbor’s dog, her own pets and scenes on the streets. In 2010, she started learning paper-cutting from Xi Xiaoqin, the national inheritor (继承人) of the intangible cultural heritage (非物质文化遗产) of paper-cutting. Six years later, Shi was named as a Shanghai paper-cutting inheritor and became the city’s “youngest inheritor” of the paper-cutting heritage. Similar to local dialects, paper-cutting comes in different styles, depending on the region. In general, the paper-cutting artworks in the country’s northern area are usually rough patterns used as decorations on windows, walls, roofs, lanterns and other household items. In southern China, paper-cutting is used as the base pattern for embroidery (刺绣) and requires more careful workmanship. Shanghai paper-cutting, on the other hand, is a combination of these two styles. Since the 1960s, Shanghai paper-cutting has been more frequently adopted in artworks and handicrafts. Shi now works at the Fenglin community cultural center and she now plans to produce cultural and creative goods to attract more people to learn paper-cutting. “We are very proud to have this unique folk culture and art project, As we have the responsibility to protect and inherit this cultural heritage, we will make more efforts to attract people from different age groups and different fields to try paper-cutting,” said Liu Li, director of the Fenglin community development office. 28. Why does Shi Qinling take a pair of scissors with her everywhere? A. To protect herself. B. To show her identity as an artist. C. To create works whenever she has inspiration. D. To share paper-cutting skills with ordinary people. 29. What feature do Shi Qinling’s works have? A They are in various styles. B. They are mainly related to animals. C. They are a hit among young people. D. They are mostly inspired by details of daily life. 30. What can we learn about Shanghai paper-cutting? A. It is usually combined with embroidery. B. It is usually used as decorations during festivals. C. It is a mixture of China’s northern and southern styles. D. It requires greater skill than other paper-cutting forms. 31. What is Liu Li’s attitude toward the paper-cutting project? A. She disapproves of it. B. She supports it. C. She is tolerant of it. D. She doesn’t care about it. D The researchers used a machine learning technique known as Artemis named for the Greek hunting goddess to discover that “junk DNA” may play a crucial role in development of tumors (瘤). Scientists have used Al to clarify the human body’s so-called dark genome (基因组) and develop a potentially powerful new approach to cancer detection, monitoring and treatment. Investigators at Johns Hopkins University in the US have revealed how previously little-studied repeats of genetic code sequences — known as “junk DNA” or dark matter — are associated with tumors. The research, published in Science Translational Medicine on Wednesday, shows how AI and other advanced computing technologies are deepening understanding of diseases and how to deal with them. The scientists reviewed more than 1,200 distinct types of repeat DNA elements comprising almost half the human genome. They found that many of these junk genetic code pieces not previously linked to cancer had changed during tumor formation. In the researcher’s analysis of 736 genes linked to cancer formation, almost two-thirds contained on average 15 times more the number of repeat DNA sequences than expected. The findings suggested the junk pieces were “not occurring randomly” in cancerous tissues and were instead potentially revealing markers of tumors, Velculescu said. “They end up being gathered around genes that are altered in cancer in a variety of different ways, providing the first glimpse that these sequences may be key to tumor development,” he said. “While still at an early stage, this research demonstrates how some cancers could be diagnosed earlier by detecting tumor-specific changes in cells collected from blood samples,” said Hattie Brooks, a charity’s research information manager. Although there is still a long way to go before Artemis could be used in the clinic, it’s always exciting to see new approaches showing potential in detecting cancer sooner. 32. What can we learn from the second paragraph? A. Investigators in the US have revealed how to deal with tumors. B. AI and other advanced computing technologies can cure cancer. C. Science Translational Medicine belongs to Johns Hopkins University. D. The repeats of genetic code sequences were rarely studied by scientists. 33. What did the research find? A. Junk DNA was not linked to cancer. B. Junk DNA changed tumor formation. C Junk DNA appeared randomly in cancerous tissues. D. Junk DNA was likely to be critical to tumor formation. 34. What does the author intend to do in the last two paragraphs? A. To provide examples. B. To explain concepts. C. To express expectations. D. To draw comparisons. 35. Which of the following is the best title for the text? A. Artemis — An AI to Clarify the Human’s Dark Genome. B. Artemis — A Potential New Approach to Detect Cancer. C. Artemis — A Machine Learning Technique to Cure Cancer. D. Every evening after homework, I sat by the window to play. The notes were like soft whispers, making me feel calm. But when I had to play in front of others at school, I lost this joy. Last week, our class held a small talent show in the classroom. I was so nervous that my hands shook while playing, missing three notes in a row. After that, everyone fell quiet—it was so awkward. Since then, I’ve been scared of making mistakes. My fingers get stiff (僵硬的) when I practice for school performances, and just thinking about stepping onto the school auditorium (礼堂) stage makes my heart beat fast. I worry one wrong note will ruin the music and let my classmates and teacher down. To get over this fear, I joined the school’s orchestra (管弦乐队) last month. On the first day, our conductor Mr. Hale told us, “In two weeks, we’ll have a performance on the school auditorium stage for the whole grade.” Everyone cheered, but I felt sick. I even froze up when practicing in front of 10 orchestra members — this big stage scared me. A few days later, my friend Mia saw me practicing alone in the music classroom. She showed me a video: Joshua Bell, a great violinist, played in a busy train station. He wore a simple shirt and used an expensive violin, but most people walked by. What touched me most was how he closed his eyes and played like music was part of him. “He plays for the music itself, not the audience’s attention,” Mia said softly. I practiced harder after watching that video. I asked Mr. Hale to let me play Bell’s piece in the grade performance. He said yes: “Good music comes from your heart, not from avoiding fear. ” I marked hard parts with colored pens and even practiced in front of my desk-mate. When I wanted to give up, Mia said, “Just play what you feel — don’t worry about being perfect.” Today is the day of the performance. The school auditorium is filled with students. After the orchestra’s first two pieces, Mr. Hale looked at me and nodded — it’s my turn to play. Mia patted me on the shoulder and smiled, and I walked onto the school auditorium stage. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Halfway through the performance, I accidentally played a wrong note. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 高2025级高一上学期期中考试 英语 本试卷分为试题卷和答题卡两部分,其中试题卷由第I卷(选择题)和第II卷(非选择题)组成,共8页;答题卡共2页。 What caused the speakers to talk about Xi’an? 24. A 25. C 26. A 27. A. They are in various styles. C 29. D 30. C 31. 根据第一段中的“Always taking a pair of scissors allows her to create art whenever inspiration hits. (每当灵感出现时,她总是带着一把剪刀来创作艺术。)”可知,石勤玲总是随身带着一把剪刀是为了在灵感来袭时创造作品。故选C项。 【29题详解】 细节理解题。根据第一段中的“Most of her paper-cutting works are inspired by moments in daily life, such as a neighbor’s dog, her own pets and scenes on the streets.(她的大部分剪纸作品都受到日常生活中的时刻的启发,比如邻居的狗、她自己的宠物和街道上的场景。)” 根据第三段中的“Shanghai paper-cutting, on the other hand, is a combination of these two styles. (另一方面,上海剪纸是这两种风格的结合。)”并结合上文介绍的中国南方和北方的剪纸特点可知,此处表示上海剪纸是中国南北方两种剪纸风格的结合体。故选C项。 【31题详解】 推理判断题。根据最后一段中LiuLi所说的话“We are very proud to have this unique folk culture and art project, As we have the responsibility to protect and inherit this cultural heritage, we will make more efforts to attract people from different age groups and different fields to try paper-cutting,(我们很自豪能有这个独特的民间文化艺术项目,因为我们有责任保护和继承这一文化遗产,我们将更加努力地吸引不同年龄段和不同领域的人尝试剪纸,)”可知,她认为我们有责任保护和传承剪纸这一文化遗产,并要努力吸引不同年龄段和不同领域的人尝试剪纸,故可推知她对剪纸项目持支持态度。故选B项。 D The researchers used a machine learning technique known as Artemis named for the Greek hunting goddess to discover that “junk DNA” may play a crucial role in development of tumors (瘤). C. Junk DNA appeared randomly in cancerous tissues. D. Artemis — A Greek Hunting Goddess to Discover Junk DNA. D 33. D 34. C 35. 根据文章第二段“Investigators at Johns Hopkins University in the US have revealed how previously little-studied repeats of genetic code sequences - known as “junk DNA” or dark matter - are associated with tumors. (美国约翰霍普金斯大学的研究人员揭示了以前很少研究的重复基因密码序列——被称为“垃圾DNA”或暗物质——是如何与肿瘤相关的。)”可知研究人员以前很少研究遗传密码序列的重复。故选D项。 【33题详解】 细节理解题。根据文章第三段““They end up being gathered around genes that are altered in cancer in a variety of different ways, providing the first glimpse that these sequences may be key to tumor development,”(“它们最终聚集在以各种不同方式改变癌症的基因周围,让我们第一次看到这些序列可能是肿瘤发展的关键。”)” 根据文章第四段““While still at an early stage, this research demonstrates how some cancers could be diagnosed earlier by detecting tumor-specific changes in cells collected from blood samples,”(“虽然还处于早期阶段,但这项研究表明,通过检测从血液样本中收集的细胞中肿瘤特异性的变化,可以更早地诊断出一些癌症。”)”以及文章最后一段“Although there is still a long way to go before Artemis could be used in the clinic, it’s always exciting to see new approaches showing potential in detecting cancer sooner. 注意: 1. 续写词数应为150左右; 2. 请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。 Mia patted me on the shoulder and smiled, and I walked onto the school auditorium stage. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ Halfway through the performance, I accidentally played a wrong note. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________ 【答案】Paragraph 1 Mia patted me on the shoulder and smiled, and I walked onto the school auditorium stage. I gripped my violin tightly, my fingers still a little stiff. Then I saw Mia in the front row—she mouthed “you got this” and gave me a thumbs-up. I took a deep breath, closed my eyes for a moment, and remembered what Joshua Bell did: play for the music, not the crowd. When I put the bow to the strings, the first note sounded clearer than I expected. The nervousness slowly faded, and I started to focus on how the music felt, not on whether I’d make a mistake. Paragraph 2 Halfway through the performance, I accidentally played a wrong note. I kept going, just like I practiced with my desk-mate. To my surprise, the mistake didn’t ruin the music — it felt like a small pause before the melody continued. When I finished the last note, the auditorium was quiet for a second, then broke into applause. Mia was cheering the loudest. Mr. Hale smiled and nodded at me. I walked off stage, my hands no longer stiff. I realized that playing in front of others isn’t about being perfect — it’s about sharing the music I love. 词汇激活 行为类 ①消失:fade/ vanish ②集中精力于:focus on/concentrate on ③意识到:realize/be aware of 情绪类 ①紧张:nervousness/anxiety ②惊讶:surprise/astonishment 【点睛】【高分句型1】When I put the bow to the strings, the first note sounded clearer than I expected.(运用了when引导的时间状语从句) 【高分句型2】I realized that playing in front of others isn’t about being perfect — it’s about sharing the music I love.(运用了that引导的宾语从句和省略关系代词that的定语从句修饰先行词music) 第1页/共1页 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
