Passage 1

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Growing up in Colorado, I prefer being outdoors. During my spare time, I enjoy swimming, climbing mountains and water-skiing. Although skiing was the sport I had never learned, I wanted to have a try. So when I recently got an invitation to a skiing trip in Deer Valley, I jumped at the chance. I didn’t think it would be that hard to learn. After all, I was fairly fit, and I used to waterski —that had to count for something, right?
It turned out that there was not so much help. I told the coach I was “beginner level”, and I was grouped with some women who had skied only a couple of times before. At first, I learned how to put on my ski suit and control my speed and direction. With the help of the coach, I started to practice.
Once we mastered the basic skills, my coach led us to the green run —the easy slope (斜坡)for ski beginners. When I reached the top, I started down an easy green run with others in our group. “OK, this isn’t so bad! I'm doing it!” I thought at the start of the run. Then came a harder slope. I wanted to quit. However, my pride didn’t let me stop.

Passage 2
(24-25学年高一上· 山西省太原市·期末)
阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。
During my sixth-grade year, I was nervous about many things. I was afraid of being a role model on campus. I was afraid of going to a middle school the following year. But nothing compared to my biggest fear of all… puberty (青春期). I was getting to the age where my voice would start changing. At first, I was excited for my voice to get deeper. But then I learned that before your voice gets deeper, it can sometimes crack(嘶哑).
The first time it happened to me I was so embarrassed, but to my surprise, my friends didn’t make fun of me. In fact, they didn’t even mention it. That was reality. But in my self- conscious sixth-grade mind I was certain they were going to spend all day making fun of me behind my back. They were not having the same problem controlling their voices.
After my first voice crack experience, I was determined to make sure it wouldn’t happen again. At least not in public. So, I began clearing my throat before I spoke. Limiting how much I spoke and clearing my voice before I spoke made my break and lunch experiences much less stressful. This was great but there was a larger problem. I was more scared about having a voice crack during class.
There were reasons why having a voice crack in class was scarier. One of these reasons was that our class had a group of popular girls. Having a voice crack in front of them was a fear. Unfortunately, one day my worst frightening dream came true. It was about halfway through the year, when I was happy to have made it so long without a bad voice crack incident.
That day, when I walked through the door, the first thing I noticed was that we had a substitute(代课)teacher. I immediately started thinking about how the sub would need to take attendance. My permanent (长期的)teacher never had to. Since he already knew each student and where they sat, he just had everyone sit down in their assigned seat, and marked “absent” the students whose seats were empty.

Once there was a little girl named Emily. Although her singing was very pleasant to hear, lacking of courage, she never dared to sing in front of strangers.
One summer, the neighborhood where she lived would hold a singing competition. Her best friend, Lucy, came to invite her to participate in the competition, but Emily said, “I’m afraid to take part in it.” Her mother said, “It’s okay; just do it bravely.” Emily followed her mama’s advice and decided to give herself a try. The day came. Emily and Lucy went to the competition site. But she was too timid (胆小的) to walk onto the stage. She had been waiting until others finished singing. She shakily (颤抖地) forced herself to stand on the stage. She started to sing, but her voice was so low. What’s worse, she was so nervous that she forgot the lyrics (歌词) after singing a few words. Being laughed at by others, embarrassed and shy, she ran away from the stage.
Some naughty boys ran after her and said, “Emily, coward (胆小鬼)! Emily, coward!” Emily didn’t argue with them. What she wanted was to go back home as quickly as she could.

“Mary! Come and see what I have brought home!” My father opened the door and shouted cheerfully.
“Is it a dog?” I asked when I saw him hugging a huge creature in his arms.
My father nodded and put the dog on the floor. When it ran toward me, I pressed my hands tightly over my mouth to hold back a scream. I turned around and rushed back to my room. I locked up the door as soon as I could.
Since I was attacked by a wild dog two months ago, I had been living in constant fear of dogs. I was confused why my father was so happy to bring home such a scary thing. So I decided to stay in my room until the dog was gone. After what seemed like ages, I heard the door open and shut.
“Finally!” I breathed in relief and opened the door cautiously.
To my shock, I felt something wet touching my foot. It was the dog! I froze there, as if my feet were rooted to the ground. When I regained my senses, I screamed, “Daddy! It is the dog! Help! It wants to bite me! Get it away from me!”
My father was standing by the other side of the door, folding his arms and encouraged me,“It is not going to eat you! Mary, don’t be so scared. Go on! Touch it!”
I tried my best to control my fear and bent down to touch the dog. But I could not do it due to my constant and uncontrollable shaking.
“Never! I will never touch that dirty thing! Take it away!” I shouted.
My father turned a deaf ear to my request. In despair, I picked up a tennis ball that happened to be on the floor and threw it at the dog.

One pleasant New-year morning, Edward rose, and washed and dressed himself in a hurry. He wanted to be first to wish a happy New Year to his family. He turned up at every door of the house, and shouted the words of “Happy New Year” in an excited voice. After a quick breakfast, he hopped along the street like a happy bird, greeted and repeated the words to those he met.
When he came back, his father gave him 50 dollars, saying he could buy whatever he had been wishing for. His face lighted up as he took them. He had wished for a long time to buy some interesting books that he had seen at the bookstore. He thanked his father and danced out of the house again with a light heart, wanting to buy those books.
As he ran down the street, he noticed a poor German family, the father, mother, and three children trembling with cold. “I wish you a happy New Year,” said Edward, as he was happily passing on. The man took a look at the happy boy and shook his head sadly.
Edward stopped and said, “It seems that you do not belong to this country” The man again shook his head, a confused expression appeared over his face, for he could not understand or speak English.
But the poor man pointed to his mouth, and to the children with hungry looks, as if to say, “These little ones have had nothing to eat for a long time.”
Edward quickly understood that these poor people were in difficult situation.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Amy is good at making pies, which got her a job at the Good Times restaurant months ago. And she was often regarded as the best worker there. Recently, she became the supervisor (主管) of the restaurant. She was kind and friendly to all the workers and the customers.
One morning, Amy was taking orders when she heard a conversation. “What you did there was great, Mason! It was hard to carry the old lady safely out of the fire. For a moment, I thought you couldn’t make it, my friend,” one man said. Then the other man replied, “Yeah, it was difficult, but that’s our job. And you were the hero today, Gordon. You carried that girl on your shoulder and her dog in your hand. It’s going to be on the newspapers tomorrow, I’m telling you.”
From their clothing and conversation, Amy knew they were firefighters. And she quickly realized that they were talking about the previous night’s fire at the old hotel on the other end of the road. Then the man named Gordon continued, “I don’t care about being in the papers. The little girl and her dog reminded me of my own daughter. She’s constantly asking for a dog, too.”
Amy was moved by the courage and sincerity of the two men. She wanted to show her appreciation for their selfless service. “How about helping pay for their meal?” she thought.
However, she wasn’t a rich girl at all. Weeks ago, her father had an accident and broke his legs. The operation cost a lot of money. And now he needed a wheelchair (轮椅) to move around so that he could live an easier life. But her family was poor and a good wheelchair wasn’t cheap. Amy was trying hard to save money for a wheelchair for her father. And she still needed a lot of money. “Well, the firefighters’ meal won’t cost too much,” Amy finally thought.

Emily was struggling to make ends meet, working two jobs just to afford a tiny apartment in the heart of the city. Despite her efforts, she often found herself feeling overwhelmed by the hardship of city life.
One cold evening, as Emily got home from her second job, she noticed a homeless man on the street corner, shaking under a thin blanket (毯子). His eyes, filled with a mixture of hopelessness and tiredness, met hers briefly before he lowered his head.
Without a second thought, Emily approached the man and offered him her scarf. “Here, you must be cold,” she said softly, putting the scarf around his shoulders. The man looked up at her, his eyes widening in surprise at this unexpected act of kindness. “Thank you,” he said.
From that day on, Emily made it a habit to stop and chat with the homeless man, whose name she learned was Greg. She brought him hot meals, blankets, and sometimes even books to pass the time. In return, Greg shared stories of his past — a life once filled with love and laughter, now lost to the cold streets.
As the days passed by, Emily found herself looking forward to their daily encounters (相遇). In Greg, she found a similar spirit—a gentle soul beat by life’s hardships but still resilient (坚韧的). And in Emily, Greg found a light of hope — a reminder that even in the darkest of times, there are still pockets of light to be found.
One evening, as Emily sat beside Greg on the cold street, she noticed something unusual in his eyes. “What is it, Greg?” she asked, sensing his unspoken thoughts. Greg hesitated fora moment before speaking, his voice shaking with emotion. “I want to change my life, Emily,” he said. “I want to leave these streets behind and start anew.”

On November 27th, 2021, I was waiting to check out at a local store. The store is always busy because it is on the main street of our small town. Though I have moved to a house that is a little far from the store, I still come back to this spot for shopping, because everyone knows my face if not my name.
The clerk was very busy because it was Thanksgiving Day. Besides usual snacks and daily necessities, people were buying kinds of food and bunches of flowers. It was about 5 p. m. and still light outside, but people seemed to be hurrying back to their cars. As it was the rush hour, with people anxious to get home from work, few of the people in line responded to the clerk’s greetings. Even fewer people wished the clerk a nice evening.
Surprisingly, one elderly woman who was paying for ice cream and some snacks smiled at the clerk who was taking what seemed to be the woman’s last 20 dollars and 21 cents. The elderly customer nodded in the direction of the flowers and said to the clerk, “I hope someone will bring you a bunch of these flowers tonight.” The clerk smiled, saying a bit regretfully, “That would be nice, but I don’t think it’s likely to happen. My husband and I both have to work till midnight today.”
Hearing that, the customer seemed to be lost in thought. She accepted her plastic bag, thanked the clerk and then headed towards her old and damaged car outside the store. This is an unbelievable real Christmas story: one of courage, life and passing on love.
Twenty-five years ago, Ray Anderson, a single parent with a one-year-old son, was returning home after giving out gifts to the needy people on Christmas Eve when he witnessed a terrible accident which took place when the driver of a truck ran a red light and collided (碰撞)with the car of Sandra Jenkins. The influence of the collision killed Sandra instantly, but her three-month-old daughter was left trapped upside down in the burning car seemingly doomed to a fiery tomb.
While others looked on in horror, Anderson jumped out of his car and crawled (爬)into the car through the broken window to try to free the baby. Seconds later, the car was totally on fire, but Anderson was unexpectedly able to pull the baby to safety. While the child came out of the accident with no injuries, Anderson suffered third degree burns over 80 percent of his body.
Two days later, Anderson died, but his heroic act was published widely in the media. Anderson’s son was soon raised by relative, and the family moved to the East Coast.
The most unbelievable part of this story unfolded only last week. Karen and her fiance(未婚夫), Aaron, were looking through some old boxes in the basement of Karen’s home when they came across some old newspapers. “This is me when I was a newborn baby. My mother was busy with some volunteer work when the accidnet happened. I was rescued from a burning car, but my mother died in the accident,” explained Karen. Passage 6
(24-25学年高一上· 山西省大同市·期末)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段(80 词左右),使之构成一篇完整的短文。
At noon that day, I drove back to my house after the performance. Just as I entered the living room, I heard a gentle sound coming from the bedroom upstairs — it was the sound of my favorite violin.
“Thief!”
I rushed upstairs. Sure enough, as expected, a boy of about 11 years old was petting my violin. The boy had messy hair and a thin face, his over-sized coat seemingly filled with something. At first glance, I found a new pair of shoes missing. It seemed that he was surely a thief.
Then, I saw his eyes full of fear and despair. My anger was immediately replaced by a smile. I asked, “Are you Mr. Tom’s nephew, Michael? I’m his housekeeper. Two days ago, I heard his nephew living in the countryside will come. It must be you. You’re really like him!”
On hearing my words, the boy was first astonished, but then quickly said, “Has my uncle gone out? I think I’d better first go out for a walk and visit him again in a little while.”
I nodded and asked the boy who was preparing to put down the violin, “Do you like to play the violin so much?”
“Yes, but I’m so poor that I can’t afford it.” the boy replied.
“Then, I can give this violin to you.” The boy looked at me questioningly, but he picked up the violin.
Going out to the living room, he suddenly saw on the wall my huge color photo in which I performed in the Sydney Opera House. He involuntarily trembled for a moment and ran out without looking back.
I was sure that the boy had understood what happened, because no one would decorate the living room with the housekeeper’s photo.
A few years later, I was invited to be a judge at a music competition of senior high school students. Fascinated by the gentle sound of one participant, I was wholeheartedly impressed by his wonderful performance and solid strength. As I flicked my eyes up to glance at the performer, I was so astonished to see a thin face, so familiar, yet now lit up with joy and confidence. The “thief”! For an instant, I was amazed that the kindness I offered to cover the boy’s misconduct would make such a big difference!
注意:1.续写词数应为 80 词左右;2.请按如下格式在以下位置作答。
After the competition, “Michael” ran to me, holding a violin box.

I was 15 years old, living with my parents in a countryside 18 miles outside of Durban, South Africa. We were far from the town and had no neighbors, so I would always look forward to going to the town to visit friends and hang out with them.
On a sunny Saturday, my father had to attend an important meeting in the town in the afternoon and I begged him to drive me to the town to visit my friend Toby. To my wild joy, he agreed and said, “I will pick you up from Toby’s house at 5: 00 p. m., and then we will go home together. At that moment, Peter excitedly brought out his laptop and flashed a 3 D model of a modern farmhouse. Kyle and Stan stared at the computer screen. “What are we looking at?”Stan asked his grandsons. “We know how much your dad valued his farm and how much you wanted to honor him by maintaining it. “I will never forget you,” Meryl said to his pet dog with tears rolling down his cheek (脸颊). With his head leaning to one side, Thone watched his master, “Woof, woof! Woof, woof!” He wagged his tail back and forth, seeming to understand what Meryl was talking about.
“I can’t take care of myself anymore, let alone take care of you,” Meryl cleared his throat. “Soon, I’ll move to an old people’s home, and I’m sorry to say that you can’t come along. They don’t allow dogs there, you know.” “Don’t worry, my friend. I’ll find a nice new home for you. I’ve known the owners of the new home, and they like dogs very much,” Meryl added. “With your good looks, we’ll have no trouble at all. Anyone will be proud to own such a fine dog.”
Thone wagged his tail really hard and walked proudly up and down the kitchen floor. For a moment, the familiar delicious food gave him a feeling of happiness. But then a sense of fear struck again. Thone’s tail hung between his legs and he stood very still.
“Come here.” With great difficulty, Meryl knelt down on the floor and lovingly pulled Thone close to him. He tied a ribbon (丝带) around the dog’s neck with a huge red bow, and then he attached a note to it, which said “Happy New Year! My name is Thone. For breakfast, I like bacon and eggs — even corn will do. For dinner, I prefer mashed potatoes and some meat. That’s all. I eat just two meals a day. In return, I will be your most loyal friend.”
“Woof, woof! Woof, woof!” Thone was confused and his eyes begged. The old Meryl blew his nose into his handkerchief once more. Later, hanging on to a chair, he pulled himself up from the floor. He buttoned his overcoat, reached for the dog’s leash (皮带) and softly said, “Come here, my friend.” He opened the door against a wave of cold air and stepped outside, pulling the dog behind.

Ah Dc was hungry again. This was not surprising, for he had only eaten half a bread since morning. It was already late afternoon. and sleeping was not going to help him drive off the hunger anymore. He slowly lowered himself from the platform he was on and made his way home from the disused bridge he was sleeping on.
The home was a run-down house with so many holes through its walls and roof (屋顶) that the wind practically whistled through it when the rainy season approached. Ah De loved the music of the wind then. It helped him forget the cold that covered his thin body. Though his house was in a poor condition. Ah De still smiled as he thought of his mother’s face. She was a wonderful woman who never forgot to make him feel treasured. They were alone in this lonely part of Vietnam, his father having died in the war. She made her living by washing clothes for other families, while Ah De did his part by eating little and staying out of her way. But in the evenings. she would put her arms around Ah De and tell him the loveliest stories of courage and adventure. Ah De knew that he would do all he could to make his mother happy.
Suddenly, a burst of beautiful music came to Ah De’s cars from the air. Ah De turned around to where the sound was coming from. He saw a group of people coming down the road. welcoming the brightly-colored silk chair that was carried by four strong men. The children of the village were all dancing around the chair, wild with joy. Ah De’s curiosity was aroused. The children were usually not so active. Why were they so excited now? “Don’t remind me.” Elisa thought to herself. It was not just the first day of school. It was Elisa’s first day at a new school. Picking out clothes for the first day of school was hard enough when you already knew your classmates. It was even harder when you would ever meet them for the first time.
“Elisa!” her mom called out. “I see the bus coming down the street!”
“This is it.” Elisa said to herself. She jumped off the bed and ran downstairs. Her mother stopped her at the bottom of the steps.
“I know you’re nervous about starting the first day at a new school.” her mother said.
“Remember my words: Be friendly to others and soon they will too.”
Elisa had her doubts. but she did not mention them. She put on a brave face and said. “It will be okay.” Then she hugged her mom and ran outside. where the bus was already waiting.
As she climbed on the bus, she was surprised to discover that she was the very first person on board. Elisa was happy to avoid other people for as long as she could. but she knew it would not last long. She took a seat near the back.

In a small village called Brightville, there lived three friends: Kimberley, John and Alicia. They were all students at Brightville High School. Kimberley was a hardworking and determined girl; John was a curious and creative boy; and Alicia was a kind and helpful girl. They shared a common dream of achieving their goals through education.
On a sunny day, the three friends gathered at their favorite spot near the village river. They often met there to discuss their dreams and motivate each other. Kimberley always emphasized (强调) the importance of studying and setting goals. John loved exploring new things and finding creative ways to learn. Alicia, with her caring nature, always supported and encouraged her friends.
One day, they came across an old abandoned library in the heart of Brightville. The library was filled with dust-covered books. Kimberley saw this as an opportunity for their dreams to come true. She suggested turning the library into a learning center for the village.
The three friends spent months cleaning, organizing and renewing the library. They reached out to the villagers, and soon, volunteers joined them to set up the learning center. They created a friendly and welcome environment where students could come to study, read books, and seek help.
Word about the learning center spread throughout the village. Students from all ages and backgrounds started attending. The residents of a small town in rural Appalachia could never have imagined the damage that lay ahead. When a massive flood destroyed their local primary school, their world was turned upside down. The flood caused widespread damage. It had a bad effect on the town’s economy, and many families were struggling to make ends meet.
As the flood rose higher and higher, the school suffered the most. The staff and students watched in despair as their belongings were washed away. The flood stopped the students’ education, so they had to stay at home, waiting for help.
However, the people of this small town refused to be defeated. A sense of community and friendship began to appear. Faced with the disaster, the townspeople joined together to support the school. In order to get the school to normal, they gave countless donations of time, money and resources. People from all walks of life came to help in any way they could.
One remarkable example of the power of community occurred when a group of retired teachers volunteered to teach the students who had fallen behind free of charge at home. It was obvious that these teachers tried to help get the school back on track and allowed the students to continue their studies. In this situation, the volunteer teachers’ selfless acts of love and devotion were important to the students' learning. Their kind hearts were an inspiration to people around, and their generosity was unlimited.
“I grew up here, and I want to give back to my hometown that has given so much to me,” one of the volunteer teachers, Jane, said when someone interviewed her on the road. “Knowing that the students had missed lots of lessons, I felt anxious and heartbreaking. I should lend a helping hand.”
As soon as Jane finished speaking, she rushed back for a class. Suddenly, her cellphone rang. It was from her former student, Dr White. He said he would visit her in about one hour to see if there was anything he could do to help. “OK, my class will end at exactly that time. Welcome to my home. I’ll be waiting for you.”

A first haircut can often be scary for little kids. Seeing a stranger coming over you with a pair of scissors for the very first time can often leave children with a wrong first impression of something that most of us go through on a regular basis.
In a recent video shared by a barber (理发师), Jad Srour, attracted people’s special attention. In the video, Jude, a young boy of about four or five years old, could be seen experiencing his very first haircut. When the barber put the scissors to his hair, the boy couldn’t keep the tears any longer. As soon as Jude broke into tears, his mom, obviously feeling her son’s fear, was in tears as well. The barber stopped for a while so that the boy’s mom could try to calm him down. After the mom finally calmed her boy down, the barber continued though the boy still wasn’t entirely happy with his situation. Surprisingly, once the barber cut the boy long hair down, the young boy smiled, and the eyes focused on the hair and shone with tears.
The video of Jude’s haircut quickly spread. After seeing the boy’s reaction to having his long hair cut off, many social media users took to criticize (批评) the boy’s parents for putting him through something that obviously hurt him mentally.
Considering how upset the little boy seemed when the barber touched his hair, many users wondered whether the boy wanted to cut his hair. One person commented, “Why did he have to cut his hair when he was clearly in pain about it?” Other users even wondered why Jude’s parents let his hair get as long as it did. They even wrote, “Why let it get uncontrollably long?” “What a horrible thing to do to a child. Shameful.” Many comments seemed to be negative.

Passage 1
(24-25学年高一上·山西省太原市·期末)

1. 续写词数应为100个左右;

But the accident would never stop me.
___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】I began to ski down the hill. Firstly, I moved inch by inch, and gradually I picked up speed until I took off — I was enjoying the flying feeling when I accidentally hit a tree and ended with a nose diving into the snow. “Ouch!” I cried out in pain, feeling my legs hurt. The coach and the teammates ran towards me. They checked me up and moved me out of the runs.
But the accident would never stop me. Shortly, I stood up. I gathered the strength to continue. Amazingly, I found joy and pride in the process of falling and getting back up on the skis over and over again. Skiing has become my favorite. I’ve come to realize that the essence of skiing lies in the discovery of a better self. Fear doesn’t shape my future, but bravery does.

The whole class turned to look at me.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】 I started to feel frightened. So many thoughts were rushing through my mind that I could not think straight. I calmed myself down by telling myself that I only had to say one word: “here.” Easy enough right? Well, I thought so too until my name was called. I did my normal routine; I cleared my throat, took a breath, and said, “Here.” The only problem was that while saying this, I had the worst voice crack in the history of voice cracks.
The whole class turned to look at me. It felt as if everyone was staring into my soul. There was silence, and then the entire class burst into laughter. My worst nightmare had come true, and it was embarrassing. I wanted to run out of the class and go home, get in bed, and pull the covers over my head, but I knew that would only make things worse. The class settled down and then continued as normal. Everything went on as if nothing happened. Actually nobody cared about my voice crack. I learned that it’s important to be positive.

【答案】One possible version:
The ball missed the target. Instead, it rolled across the living room. The dog ran excitedly after the ball and brought it back to me. When it put the ball beside my feet and looked up at me with a big smile on its face, my heart somehow softened. I reached out and tried to touch it. Obviously encouraged by my friendlier reaction, the dog started rubbing its body against one of my legs.
But the next moment I was reminded of the awful experience. My hand stopped in the middle way. It seemed that the dog understood what I was thinking about. It lay down at my feet and appeared so sad that I forced myself to touch its fur, which the dog seemed to be quite enjoying. Since then I have overcome my fear and we have become the best friends. It followed me everywhere and drove away any unfriendly dogs as a faithful bodyguard.

Paragraph 1:
Then she went to the cashier (收银员) and secretly paid for their meal.

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Then she went to the cashier (收银员) and secretly paid for their meal. Amy didn’t want the firefighters to know about her gesture; she just hoped that this small act of kindness would express her gratitude for their bravery and service. As the firefighters finished their meal and went to pay, the cashier informed them that someone had already taken care of it. Surprised and grateful, the firefighters looked around the restaurant to see if they could spot their mysterious benefactor, but Amy had secretly returned to her duties in the kitchen. The firefighters found the manager and insisted being told the truth.
The next day, the firefighters began raising (募捐) money for a wheelchair for Amy’s father, because they already knew who was the benefactor and what her situation was. They wanted to help too. They organized fundraisers and even set up an online donation campaign. The firefighters, inspired by Amy’s generosity, were determined to make a positive impact on her family’s life. The community’s response was overwhelming, and soon enough, they raised enough money not only for a quality wheelchair but also to cover the medical expenses for Amy’s father. The sense of unity and compassion within the community transformed a small act of kindness into a powerful force for good.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】One possible version:
“I believe in you, Greg,” Emily smiled, with pride for her friend. She placed a hand on his shoulder. “And I’ll be here to support you every step of the way.” With Emily’s support, Greg started a new journey. He worked in local shelters to rebuild his life from the ground up. Later, he found a job to support himself. Then he rented a small apartment, where he could enjoy good sleep and hot food. He bore in mind that through it all, Emily stood by his side, offering encouragement.
One sunny afternoon, Greg went to the same street corner. He waited there until he noticed a familiar figure approaching — yes, it was Emily. Greg’s eyes were bright with joy. “Emily,” he called out, his voice filled with excitement. “Thank you for believing in me when no one else would. You’ve given me a second chance at life, and I’ll never forget it!” Tears welled up in Emily’s eyes as she saw a totally different Greg. “You did this all on your own, Greg,” she said, her heart overflowing with pride.

Hearing the dialogue between the woman and clerk, several of us women in line began to talk about when the last time we had gotten flowers was, and finally we all agreed it had been a long time.

【答案】范文
Several minutes later, the elderly customer came back with a few coins in her hand. My guess is that they were “turnpike money” from her beat-up car. She looked at the bunches of six roses. The sign said the price was $9.99. “Can’t do it,” she said, shaking her head sadly. Then she picked out a single, gorgeous orange-red rose, looking grateful and relieved. She thanked us for letting her buy the rose and walked to the clerk with a smile on her face, then handed the flower to the clerk.
The clerk looked at the elderly customer in surprise. She rang it up and started to hand it back. The customer shook her head. “No,” she said. “I hope you have something to put it in, because it’s for you all. I think clerks in convenience stores have one of the most thankless jobs in the world.” She smiled at them all. “Happy Thanksgiving Day!” Then she rushed for her car and chugged away. The three clerks were almost in tears. What a lift that unassuming woman gave to them — and to everyone privileged enough to watch.

Although Aaron knew Karen’s mother had died years earlier, he never fully understood the situation until he started to skim over the newspaper article.

Have a nice day!” Excitedly jumping into his car, I dreamt of my happy time in the town with Toby. About 30 minutes later, we arrived at the town and I waved goodbye to father.
After chatting and dining with Toby at his house, we went to the nearest movie theatre at around3: 30 p. m. I got so absorbed in John Wayne’s latest movie that I totally forgot the time. It was not until 5: 30p. m. that I suddenly remembered the appointment with my father. Toby and I ran back as fast as we could to his house. As I had expected, Toby’s parents and my father had already been waiting for us at the doorway of the house. My father and I said goodbye to them and walked towards the car. “Why are you so late?” My father said in an anxious voice. So ashamed was I that I didn’t dare to tell him the truth and I murmured (小声说),“I had to buy a book in Uncle Tom’s bookstore,” not realizing that he had learned about the truth from Toby’s parents.
I was ready to be scolded (责备) in the face when he caught me lying. To my surprise, however, he said calmly, “There must be something wrong with the way I brought you up. I haven’t given you the courage to tell the truth.” Then he was lost in thought.

【答案】参考范文:
There was dead silence in the car on the way home. I knew my father was angry, but I didn’t expect him to be so calm about it. I kept looking out of the window, feeling increasingly guilty about what I had done. After a while, he broke the silence and said, “Son, we all make mistakes. The important thing is to learn from them and not repeat them again. I know you’re a good kid, and I’m sure you’ll do better in the future.”
After I heard my father’s words, tears of regret ran down my face. I realized that my father was not angry with me, but disappointed that I had not told him the truth. His words stayed with me, and I knew that I had learned a valuable lesson that day. I decided then and there that I would never again be late for an appointment and that I would always tell the truth, no matter what the results were.

Chuck and his elder brother Peter lived with their dad Kyle and their grandfather Stan. One evening, Chuck and Peter asked their grandfather about the number one activity on his bucket list(人生愿望清单). “I was going to rebuild my dad’s farmhouse and maintain it. It’s a shame I could never do it, ” he sighed. Stan worked hard as a car mechanic, but his earnings were never enough to maintain such a huge farm.
Months passed and there was no mention of the farm again. Stan and Kyle continued working in their car repair shop, while Chuck and Peter worked downtown. On Stan’s 75th birthday, Chuck and Peter decided to give him a surprise.
“Grandpa, ”Chuck started, “this year we decided not to give you a cake for your birthday. ”“Ah, wait and see, Grandpa. I think you’re going to like this a lot better than a chocolate cake, ”Peter added.
Chuck and I raised money to fix the farmhouse and the farm, ” Peter said with a smile.
Stan covered his mouth with his hand. Tears instantly streamed down his face. “You’d do that for me?” he cried. “Grandpa, you’re the best grandfather on earth, ” Chuck told him. “We do absolutely anything for you. There’s nothing else you need to say but to assure us that you’ll help us rebuild the farm, Grandpa! You too, Dad!”
Kyle and Stan nodded their heads. “Absolutely. When we’re done, I’ll throw a barbecue party! My dad said that if I ever get to maintain the farm, we should throw a barbecue party, ” Stan said excitedly.

【答案】 Every day after that, Chuck and Peter set out to work on the farmhouse. Tired but overwhelmed with astonishment, none of them slowed their working pace. Before the rebuilding work came to an end, they kept riding Stan’s old pickup truck and headed to the “workplace”. With time ticking by, the farm house gradually took form, but there was still something detailed needing perfecting, because of which Stan and Kyle came to their assistance, for they were familiar with the original farmhouse. It took them two months to complete the project, including planting crops in the field. It’s going to be such a treat to be here!” Chuck said in high spirits, his eyes glittering with joy. Staring at the masterpiece accomplished with their joint effort, the past memory welling up inside Stan, he could barely fight back his tears but continually murmuring “Thank you, kids!”
That Sunday, they decided to host a barbecue party and invite their neighbors. Excited but nervous, to make sure everything was in place and well prepared, they reached the farm early and dared not slack off, elaborately preparing a variety of exquisite dishes. As night neared, guests arrived one after another, all of whom were deeply impressed by the new farm. They danced the night away while enjoying the yummy foods. At the sight of the scene, Stan looked up at the sky in awe. “We make it, Dad. The Hardy boys have managed to keep your farm alive, ” he said firmly. “I hope you’re proud of what you see. ”

Ali and his younger sister, Zahra, lived with their parents in a poor neighborhood. Their mother was very sick and their father was struggling to find a job, and they had only a little money with which to buy food. As they had not paid the rent for several months, the landlord was breathing down their necks (盯着他们).
One day, Ali took Zahra’s shoes to a shoe repairman to be fixed, but he lost them on the way home. It wasn’t until he got home that he realized he had lost the shoes. He was afraid that his parents would be angry and disappointed, so he begged his sister to keep it secret. Zahra agreed and the two decided to share Ali’s running shoes. Zahra’s school hours were in the morning, so she would wear them first. After school, she would rush back and give them to Ali. He could then run to his school, which began in the afternoon. Although he ran as fast as he could, Ali often arrived late and was warned by the school.
Ali heard about a long distance race that was held for the boys in the city. When he learned that the third prize was a new pair of shoes, he decided to take part. He ran home excitedly and promised his sister that he would win her the new shoes.
The day of race arrived. Ali had a strong start, but halfway through the race he began to get tired and his legs began to ache.

He gathered all his strength and the finishing line was within a stone’s throw. However, without any warning he fell over, unconscious.
When Ali came to life , he was already at home. Opening his eyes, he eyed Zahra sitting beside his bed, concerned and anxious. A big smile spread across her face. “You did it, my dear brother.” she yelled as she waved a pair of new shoes high in the air. Only then did Ali realize that he won the third prize. Ali and his sister kissed the prized shoes over and over again, grinning from ear to ear. The whole room was filled with warmth with a ray of golden sunshine shining through.

As they were walking in the empty street, dusk was beginning to fall.

【答案】After a very long time, they stopped before a large house with tall trees in its front. An idea came to Meryl. He gave up the original plan and tied Thone to the tree, giving him the usual delicious food. The moment Thone was busy enjoying his dinner, Meryl ran away, hid behind a tree and looked at him with watery eyes. Minutes later, Thone looked back but couldn’t find his owner “Woof, woof! Woof, woof!” Then the door opened and a young lady came out with a little boy following her.
Through teary eyes, the old Meryl watched from behind the tree as the boy’s mother took the note. After reading the note, the lady raised and looked around but couldn’t find anyone, so she gently took Thone into her house as if saying something kind to him. Seeing this, the old Meryl wiped his eyes with the cold sleeve of his coat with a big smile. Then he disappeared into the night, whispering, “Goodbye, my dear friend. This will be a nice home for you.”

The three friends spent months cleaning, organizing and renewing the library. They reached out to the villagers, and soon, volunteers joined them to set up the learning center. They created a friendly and welcome environment where students could come to study, read books, and seek help.

Passage 4
(24-25学年高一上· 陕西省商洛市·期末)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】 Jane had just finished her lesson when she noticed one of her students, Jack, looking unwell. She went to him, only to find that he was running a fever. She learned that he lived with his grandparents because his parents had to work out of town for money to restore their home. Jane felt very sorry about that. She was about to take the sick student to the hospital when Dr White arrived. Then he did some emergency treatment on Jack and sent him to his hospital. On the way back, Jane and Dr White discussed the best way to help the students.
Finally, Jane and Dr White thought of a way to help the school. Through their efforts, they established a non-profit organization. They tried every means to raise money which was scheduled to reconstruct the school. Meanwhile, Jane continued to teach her students for free, and Dr White often did free clinic for the students as well. People from near and far poured money into the organization.

【答案】Then Jad told the story behind online. “First of all, he is a boy... It was Jude’s 5th birthday that day and it was the boy’s first haircut,” Jad said. In the following minutes, Jad said that it was actually Jude’s own idea to cut his hair, which was quite a good shock for people. He continued to uncover the facts. Jude didn’t cut before because it was his parents personal choice. Jude’s parents had let him grow his hair out for five years since he was born for a kind purpose.
When Jude was just born, his parents happened to know on TV that many kids with cancer had lost their hair. They decided to do something for those sick kids together with his newborn boy, Jude. As time went by and Jude grew up, Jude was told the plan by his parents. He was more than proud and delighted that he could donate his hair to kids in need. On his 5th birthday, he made a wish of helping others and decided it was time to cut his hair down. Although Jude was crying at the start of the haircut, he smiled and was happy for what he had done.
