B 29-year-old Dim Nang Lao is a mother of a six-year-old boy in a mountainous and remote region in northeastern Cambodia.Like many other parents in her village who marry and have children at a young age, she used to have little knowledge about how she should look after her child to ensure he can grow healthy and strong and reach his full potential. But everything changed when she received Nurturing Care Parenting training from village volunteers. Nurturing Care Parenting aims to help every child get the best possible start in life, including through healthcare, early education and play.It also helps parents avoid violence or punishment to discipline their children. "I learned a lot from Nurturing Care Parenting,"Dim Nang Lao says."I learned how to care for my child's health, nutrition and education.I learned how to talk to him when he is wrong and comfort him when he is sad.I learned that a child is a white paper. If I hit him,he will learn those actions from me." Dim Nang Lao is one of many who have benefited from the training.According to a local official named Ang Chenda, the training has reached five villages and has improved the lives of many families. She says she welcomes the training as many parents in the area did not fully understand what they needed to do to fully support their children's needs and development and often spent most of their time earning an income through farm work. 4 "After the training, their understanding of raising young children is far different,"Ang Chenda says. "They are more aware of the importance of caring for their children. They take their children to the health center for check-ups,issue birth certificates for their children and send their children to school. They also reduce violence and use positive discipline instead." Dim Nang Lao says she is grateful for the opportunity to learn about positive parenting and apply it in her daily life."I hope that more parents in our country can receive this training and benefit from it as I do," she adds. 55.What can we learn about many parents in Dim Nang Lao's village? A.They cared little about their kids'physical health. B.They got married and had children at an old age. C.They couldn't make a living through farm work. D.They didn't know how to care for their kids well. 56.What is the main goal of the Nurturing Care Parenting training? A.To increase parents'income through farm work. B.To help children achieve a healthy and promising start in life. C.To encourage children to focus on early education independently. D.To teach parents stricter methods of disciplining their children. 57.What does Dim Nang Lao focus on in paragraph 3? A.What she learned from her son.B.Her son's change over the time. C.What she gained from the training.D.The goal of the parenting program. 58.Why is Ang Chenda mentioned in the text? A.To speak highly of Nurturing Care Parenting. B.To introduce a harmonious parent-child relationship. C.To show the popularity of the training outside villages. D.To highlight the positive influence of parenting on kids. 59.What does Dim Nang Lao expect of Nurturing Care Parenting? A.It will criticize traditional parenting.B.It will be received extensively. C.It will offer jobs to more parents. D.It will be well obtained worldwild. C Making decisions under uncertainty is a problem we all face.Imagine you are looking for a parking spot at a crowded event. You find one far from your destination.Do you decide to take it,or invest more time into hunting for a better spot which may or may not exist? You might resolve this decision by"budgeting":limiting the resources(time)you will spend looking for a better option. This strategy allows us to cut our losses when things don't turn out as we hoped. In our research,we show how weaver ants ()-much like humans-budget their investment into a task with an uncertain payoff. Weaver ants link their bodies together to form bridge-like structures called "hanging chains",which they use for crossing gaps they encounter.Building a chain comes at a cost to the colony ).Ants in the chain can't participate in important colony tasks such as defending the nest and searching for food. The cost of the chain is proportional (to its length:longer chains are more costly,as they keep more ants occupied. Chains provide a major benefit too:they allow ants to explore areas that would otherwise be inaccessible, which may offer food sources to the colony.Whether an area contains a profitable resource, however,is unknown to the ants. This means the colony must invest capital (a number of ants)into forming a chain which may or may not pay off. We expected ants would stop forming a chain when the gap to be bridged became too tall,as the cost would become too great. We initially challenged ants to bridge vertical gaps of 25mm,35mm and 50mm in 5 height.Ants could comfortably form chains within this range, which allowed us to precisely determine the rules they use to build chains. We found ants decide how long to stay in a chain by visually assessing their distance from the ground below. The closer to the ground, the longer an ant remains in the chain. Can this predict a distance beyond which ants stop forming chains? We answered this question using a mathematical model, which predicted ants should stop forming chains when the gap is taller than 89mm.We challenged ants to form chains over gaps of 110mm,well beyond the distance predicted by our model. As expected, the ants never formed chains over these gaps. Similar to when we set ourselves a time limit for finding parking, ants set a distance limit by budgeting before giving up. 60.According to the passage, what does the word"investment"refer to in Paragraph 2? A.Time spent in building chains. B.Number of ants occupied in work. C.Courage to explore the unknown bravely.D.Resources for gathering food. 61.What do we know about hanging chains? A.Ants prefer short chains for efficiency.B.Ants can't build chains over large gaps. C.The building of chains requires a sacrifice of its colony work. D.Ants make use of chains only in the cases of emergency. 62.What message does paragraph 4 convey mainly? A.The benefits of chains for weaver ants outweigh their costs B.Chains are the only way for weaver ants to access food sources. C.Chains allow ants to access areas where food is guaranteed to be found. D.Ants will still invest in forming chains, though uncertainly profitable. 63.In what way are ants similar to humans? A.They are very good at problem-solving.B.They budget resources when making decisions. C.They seek similar food sources. D.They often work alone in tasks, 64.What can be concluded from the passage? A.Ants act randomly when making decisions.B.Ants follow strict rules without flexibility. C.Ants make decisions based on visual assessment.D.Ants are less efficient than humans. 65.What could be the best title for the passage? A.Ant Behavior in Food Search B.How to make decisions C.Budgeting in Weaver Ants D.The Structure of Ant Chains D It is widely acknowledged that happiness comes from within. However, how we perceive and interact with the world are important factors for happiness. But everything exists in a context, and this is a crucial component of everybody's happiness.I still remember the beautiful plant I had in my flat as a student. Although I tended carefully to it,it was never happy. The problem was,no matter what I did,it was never going to be happy, for this plant longed for hot and damp environment, which my draughty Scottish flat was never going to provide.F could have blamed the plant or myself but, realistically,it needed a different context to make it happy. Context is equally as important for humans. How we perceive our world is important, but if we start seeing this as everything,we start to place the blame of unhappiness and full responsibility for happiness on the individual. This is problematic.Yes we want to increase adaptability,so that we can deal with stressful situations. This is relevant in both personal and work situations.Telling somebody they need to cope better when their work load is unmanageable is unhelpful. The same applies in your personal life.Telling someone who faces daily bullying that they need to cope with it better to be happy suggests they are somehow to blame for the complex systemic and cultural factors that create stress, difficult emotions and unhappiness. It places the responsibility back on the individual, thereby creating even mere stress. Many studies show how context is important to happiness:people who have access to green spaces have higher happiness levels;people who work in organizations with a safe and supportive culture feel and work better;people who experience discrimination or bullying have higher levels of unhappiness. If our context makes us feel safe and valued,we are less stressed and happier. Of course, not all aspects of context can be changed easily. You may be trapped in a difficult work situation because you need money to repay your car loan.In such situations,it's important to separate context from self.Bear in mind that the context is crucial for how you are feeling;seek support, talk things through and solve problems,if possible. It is also important to think about the aspects of context that are in your control.Which elements get in the way of building your sandwich, distract you from it or create barriers to using it?Which elements make it easier for you to build your sandwich and support you in doing so? 66.Why did the author mention the plant he had as a student in the first paragraph? A.To raise the readers'interest in plants B.To share his experience with readers. C.To conclude the importance of happiness.D.To explain the main topic of the passage. 67.What can we infer from the second paragraph? A.Attaching too much importance to context may lead to more problems. B.Increasing our adaptability can help us deal with various situations. C.Placing the responsibility back on the individual creates more stress. D.Perceiving our world connects personal situations with work ones. 68.In what context do people have higher happiness levels? A.They have access to quiet and faraway places. B.They work in a company with risky culture. C.They experience racial discrimination and betrayal. D.They stay in a safe and encouraging environment. 69.If you are stuck in a difficult situation, what are you suggested to do? A.Make great efforts to change the situation. B.Separate the situation from your family C.Turn to others for help and solve the problem. D.Keep a good state of mind and earn more money. 70.What is the passage mainly talked about? A.Interacting with the world increases everybody's happiness. B.Context plays an extremely important role in everybody's happiness. C.Happiness comes from our perceiving the surroundings and ourselves. D.Thinking about the aspects of context that are in your control is crucial. 第Ⅱ卷(共35分) 第三部分:写作(共两节,满分35分) 第一节:阅读表达(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分) 阅读短文,并按照题目要求用英语回答问题。 I always do voluntary work in the hospital. As a patient visitor,my primary goal is to deliver quality services to patients and families.By providing companionship for patients in a sometimes lonely environment,I try my best to serve and help to diminish the loneliness and frustration patients may feel after staying in a hospital for a stretch of time for weeks or even months. Every Saturday afternoon for three to four hours, with a list of patients who have requested a patient visitor service,I head up to the 5th 6th or 7th floor to first visit my priority patients. At the nurse's station,I kindly ask the nurses or the medical staff about the condition of the patients on that unit and confirm that the patients would like a visitor. After receiving an update from the nurse,I gently knock on the door of the patients and enter with a friendly "Hello".Then,I introduce myself and again politely ask if they would like a patient visitor.I usually try to prepare a few starting conversation topics such as the current news, sports scores and fun facts. However, the patients usually engage me first in an interesting conversation. When volunteering as a patient visitor,I spent a lot of time communicating one-on-one with patients. Individual patients had individual needs and possessed.extraordinary personal stories. Therefore,I found every visit fascinating. From generous and kind patients I have learned about their diseases and their course of treatment.Additionally,I learned about literature, life during the Great Depression and wilderness of Northern Minnesota. On the whole, not only did I learn about the hospital settings and system, but I learned about the diverse life of others. Many of the patients I have visited were truly inspiring and I always admire them for their strength. Although difficult, they were often willing to share their stories of pain, suffering, hopes and optimism.I realize that I am truly grateful and honored that they would share their personal stories with just a volunteer like me. 71.What does the underlined word"diminish"in Paragraph I mean?(1 word) 72.What are the topics the author prepares for the patients?(no more than 10 words) 73.What did the author learn from her talking with the patients(no more than 12 words) 74.How does the author feel about the patients telling her their stories?(no more than 8 words) 75.What can you learn from the author's story?(no more than 15 words) 76. Dear Peter, Yours, Li Jin 8
