Fashion trends (趋势) are fun and exciting. In the past, a trend took about 20 years to cycle through, but now—thanks to the Internet and fast fashion—new trends appear every few months. Still, most trends go through similar stages (阶段):
●Stage 1: A trend often starts at a big fashion show. Reporters and writers share what they see and guess what will be popular next.
●Stage 2: People talk about it online, and famous people start wearing it. This helps the trend gain popularity.
●Stage 3: It reaches the public. Large clothing companies begin making similar styles so everyone can try the trend. This is when it becomes most popular.
●Stage 4: The trend slowly disappears—but it may come back again years later.
Some people love following trends. They make fashion full of energy and bring new ideas. However, others may not think so, especially when a trend doesn’t agree with how they feel about themselves. Trends can be fun, but sometimes prove a waste of money because many simply see trends as brands (品牌).
So, should you follow fashion trends?
1.If a new shoe style starts to be talked about on the Internet and some celebrities begin to wear it, which stage is it in?
2.According to the passage, what makes trend cycles much shorter now?
3.Your friend wants to buy expensive fashionable clothes because others have them. Is it a good idea? Why or Why not?

Citywalk is becoming a new travel fashion for the youth in China who are exploring cultural spots. Unlike traditional travel, it aims to avoid (避开) famous tourist spots and large crowds to get a better experience.
Many young people enjoy gathering a couple of good friends and hanging out in the streets when they visit a new city. They can follow a typical (典型的) city route, exploring old buildings, going window-shopping, drinking a cup of coffee, or enjoying local snacks.
In order to show their Citywalk, more and more people prefer to share their experiences and thoughts through social media. Xiao Yiyi, a young guide in Changsha, recently shared six Citywalk routes of different cities on the Internet, providing experiences for visitors to “walk in open-air museums”. Her Changsha travel route includes more unusual sights such as historical buildings, old streets, and even some snack bars.
Citywalk is spreading from the largest cities to smaller ones, encouraging more travelers and event organizers to join. Some places, such as Beijing and Jiangsu, have included Citywalk in their plans to develop cultural tourism and relaxing tours. Shanghai has set up Citywalk bus routes to help day-trippers reach more faraway areas first, and then continue on foot.
Citywalk not only offers a way for young people to explore a city but also provides them with a new social situation, where they can share their interests and ideas and make friends easily. What’s more, Citywalk provides an opportunity for tour guides and travel companies to offer a more professional (专业的) service to meet the ever-changing (千变万化的) market requirements.
1.How is Citywalk different from traditional travel?
2.What are two good things about Citywalk for young people according to the passage?
3.What way of travel would you like to choose, traditional travel or Citywalk? Why?

One day, 50 people were attending a speech. The speaker was delivering a speech about happiness. However, after a few hours, people gradually lost their attention. The speaker came up with an idea. He stopped his speech and asked all of the people to join in a group activity.
He gave a single balloon to each person in the room. Each person was asked to write his or her name on the balloon with a black marker pen. Then, all of the balloons were collected and moved to another room.
The 50 people were then let into the room and told to find the balloon that had their name written on it. Everyone rushed around, wildly searching for their balloon. People were bumping into and tripping (绊倒) over each other.
But even after five minutes of searching, no one could find their own balloon.
After seeing this, the speaker asked each person to collect a balloon and try to find the person whose name was written on it. Everyone started talking to each other and asking each other for their name. Within minutes, everyone had his or her own balloon.
“Can you see what happened?” the speaker said. “The balloons are like the happiness we seek in our own lives. Everyone is busy looking for their own happiness, not caring what happens to others. But sometimes the best way to find happiness is to help others. Help them find happiness and you can find your own.”

Every day, we hear sounds all around us—some soft, some loud. But do you know that loud sounds can harm your hearing?
Sounds are measured (测量) in decibels (分贝). Look at the chart—some sounds are safe for our ears, but when a sound goes over 85 decibels, it can be harmful to our hearing. To reduce the risk of hearing loss, we shall pay attention to the loudness of the noise, the distance we are to it and how long we listen to it.
Noise levels can be measured by sound-level meters (噪声计), but you probably don’t always carry one with you. So how can you tell whether noises are too loud or not? Ask yourself: Do you have to raise your voice to be heard? Do you find it hard to hear someone about a meter away from you? Do the noises make your ears hurt or ring for some time? If your answer is YES to any of these, that probably means the noises are too loud.
Headphones are especially tricky. Many people enjoy using them, but they often listen to loud music for too long, or keep the volume (音量) so high that even other people can hear the noise from their headphones. These can lead to hearing loss.
Your hearing is a gift. You need it for learning, communicating, and enjoying the world. Once your hearing is harmed, it may never come back.
1.According to the chart, what sounds can harm your hearing?
2.How can you know if the noises are too loud? (Give 2 examples.)
3.Why is hearing important? What can you do to protect it?

In his lovely piece of writing “Why Write?”, the writer Paul Auster shares a story about growing up as an eight-year-old in New York City. He was crazy about baseball, especially the New York Giants. The only thing he remembers about attending his first major league baseball game is that he saw his hero Willie Mays after the game. The young Auster gathered his courage and went close to his hero. “Mr. Mays,” he said, “could I please have your autograph (签名)?”
“Sure, kid, sure,” Mays replied kindly. “Have you got a pencil?”
Auster didn’t have a pencil on him, neither did his father or his mother or anyone else in his group.
Mays waited patiently, but when it became clear that no one present had anything to write with, he said, “Sorry, kid. We’ve got no pencil. I can’t give you my autograph.”
From that day on, Auster made it a habit to never leave the house without a pencil in his pocket. “It’s not that I had any special plans for that pencil,” Auster writes, “but I didn’t want to be unprepared. I had been caught empty-handed once, and I wasn’t about to let it happen again. The years have taught me this: If there’s a pencil in your pocket, there’s a good chance that one day you’ll feel like starting to use it. That’s how I became a writer.”
What is your pencil? What is so important that without it you feel unprepared? I know some cartoonists always carry pen and paper and some photographers always have a camera in their pockets. They are always prepared.
Pick your “pencil” and don’t leave home without it.
1.To get Willie Mays’ autograph, what did Auster need?
2.What habit did Auster form after that day?
3.What do you think of Auster’s habit? Why do you think so?

“I am a normal 20-year-old man,” Liu Chunhe, a young man with cerebral palsy (脑瘫), says in the movie Big World. The movie came out on Dec 27, 2024. It shows a summer Liu spends with his family. He tries to make his grandmother’s dream of playing the drums come true. Along the way, he also learns more about himself.
Instead of showing Liu as a person with a disability needing special care, the movie shows him as an everyday person. Many people fear or look down on him; only a few see him as an equal. People also doubt him, saying, “A person with cerebral palsy can’t play the drums.” But Liu proves them wrong by showing his other skills, like his great memory. He also copied how they move, talk, and even think. With all the efforts, his acting in the movie is very real and lively. “They always put themselves in a low position. They often say ‘I’m OK’ or ‘It’s alright’, trying to please others,” Yi told CCTV.
“Playing this role has shown me a new way of looking at the world,” said Yi. “Now I feel deeply moved whenever I meet someone with cerebral palsy, or when they see themselves in my role.”

Firefighting (消防) is an important job to keep people safe and help stop fires from damaging (毁坏) too much property (财产).
There are many important parts to be a firefighter. First of all firefighters have to be strong enough to do their work, so they need to have physical training, such as carrying heavy objects, going up many stairs (楼梯), and working for a long time. Firefighters also have to know the latest skills in fighting fires, so they need to go through regular training to keep themselves and others safe. Anyway, the most important part of being a firefighter is to work as a team. They have to work together to stop fires!
Firefighting is very stressful. Firefighters never know when a fire or other emergency (紧急情况) is going to happen, so they have to be ready at all times. Even in the middle of the night, firefighters have to be able to wake up quickly when the alarm (警报) goes off.
Firefighters don’t just fight house fires. They also help people who are in accidents. For example they use their special tools to help get people out of the cars if they are stuck (卡住). In some places, firefighters also have to be prepared to help people who are sick or injured (受伤的). These firefighters might be trained as nursing staff.
Firefighters are always there to help us whenever there’s an emergency. Firefighting is not easy, but if you like helping people, it might be a good job for you!
1.What is the possible title of the passage?
2.According to the passage, what are the three important parts of being a firefighter?
3.Besides being a firefighter, what job would you like to do for our country? And why?

【答案】
1. TV, headphones, rock concerts, and fireworks.
2. When/If I have to raise my voice to be heard; When/ If I find it hard to hear someone about a meter away from me; When/ If the noises make my ears hurt or ring for some time.
3.Because we need it for learning, communicating, and enjoying the world. We should not use headphones for too long./We should keep away from the loud noises./We can turn down the music./We can use headphones less.
【难度】0.4
【知识点】方法/策略、身体部位、科普知识、说明文
【导语】本文主要介绍了高分贝噪音对听力的危害、如何判断噪音是否过大以及保护听力的重要性。
1.根据“Look at the chart—some sounds are safe for our ears, but when a sound goes over 85 decibels, it can be harmful to our hearing.” TV, headphones, rock concerts, and fireworks.
2.根据“So how can you tell whether noises are too loud or not? Ask yourself: Do you have to raise your voice to be heard? Do you find it hard to hear someone about a meter away from you? Do the noises make your ears hurt or ring for some time? If your answer is YES to any of these, that probably means the noises are too loud.”可知,如果噪音太大时,我必须提高声音才能被听到,我会听不到一米远的人说话,或者这些噪音会让我的车辆受损或响一段时间。从中任选两个回答即可。故填When/If I have to raise my voice to be heard; When/If I find it hard to hear someone about a meter away from me; When/ If the noises make my ears hurt or ring for some time.
3.根据“You need it for learning, communicating, and enjoying the world.”可知,听力之所以重要是因为我们需要它来学习、交流、享受这个世界。至于如何保护听力,这部分是开放性题目,答案不唯一,言之有理即可。故填Because we need it for learning, communicating, and enjoying the world. We should not use headphones for too long./We should keep away from the loud noises./We can turn down the music./We can use headphones less.
