Passage 1
How is dining in space different from eating on Earth?
Spacesuits? Check! Oxygen? Check! Water? Check! Are we forgetting something? Food! If you send astronauts into space, you have to send along food as well. But what do astronauts eat, and how do they eat it? 1
First, and possibly most important, is nutrition (营养). 2 Providing junk foods to eat, such as potato chips, sodas, and pizza, would make the astronauts unhealthy.
3 If the food that has been provided is distasteful, then the astronauts may avoid eating it. If you’ve ever tried to concentrate on something important while your stomach doesn’t feel well, you’ll know why the scientists in charge of a space mission want their astronauts to eat regularly.
The lack of gravity in a spacecraft also determines what foods can or cannot be eaten in space. Meals must be packaged carefully so they won’t spill into the cabin. Liquids or tiny bits of food could get inside a machine or electronic device and damage it. 4 A loose knife bouncing (弹起) around inside the cabin would be dangerous.
Finally, weight is an important concern. The weight of every object included in a spacecraft must be calculated in order to ensure that there is enough fuel and power to carry the craft safely into space and home again. 5 Most foods are stored in plastic bags, and often, the foods are dehydrated (脱水). When an astronaut is ready to eat, hot water is added to rehydrate the meal and warm it up.
Despite all these requirements, much of the food eaten in space is actually similar to what you might eat on the earth.
A.Variety and taste are also important.
B.Food packaging is made to be as light as possible.
C.For the same reason sharp tools are never used onboard.
D.Nutrition and practicality are important things to consider.
E.Believe it or not, they also have fresh fruits and vegetables.
F.Scientists take several factors into consideration as they plan meals for space.
G.Maintaining the astronauts’ physical health is a top task for any space mission.

New Kinds of Tourism
People are travelling more than ever before The World Tourism Organization says that by 2021 the number of international travelers had been over 1.6 billion per year. 1 Here are four different kinds of tourism that have appeared recently.
Medical tourism can be going to a different country for health care. 2 A few of the popular countries offering medical tourism are India, Cuba, Thailand and Jordan.
3 Nearly all tourists eat in restaurants, and dining is one of the top three tourist activities. But if you were in a country famous for its food, would you learn how to cook it? Welcome to the unusual form of cooking tourism, where people go to another country to learn how to prepare its food.
Disaster tourism is the act of visiting the site of a disaster. Examples include tours to New Or-leans after Hurricane Katrina, to parts of Thailand after the tsunami or tourist visits to Ground Zero in New York. 4
Another growing area of tourism is literary tourism. 5 It can be connected to the life of an author, for example, visiting the author’s home or favorite places, or connected to the lives of characters in a story. It can also be a visit to a place where a film was made.
A.Cooking holidays are growing in popularity now.
B.It is known that few sites of disasters can be visited.
C.Many people enjoy these cultural tourist attractions.
D.This is a kind of cultural tourism and there are several types.
E.It includes a lot of things, from operations to visits to the dentist.
F.The increase in the number of tourists also means an increase in the kinds of tourism.
G.This kind of tourism is not very popular with local people for understandable reasons.
Passage 3
For businesses to develop, every business leader needs to create a workplace that is not only productive, but enjoyable too. Here are some ways to encourage workers to work harder and also keep them happy.
1 If you want to keep your workers on track, you’ll need to provide a space where they can relax from stressful work for a while. This can be in the form of a game room, or a sofa where workers can leave their desks for a short time to talk with colleagues and relax.
Make them feel valued. 2 Do not let them feel they are just someone who turns up, gets their work done and leaves at the end of the day. An easy way to do this is ask for their feedback (反馈) at company meetings.
Give them more responsibilities. Having your workers do the same tasks day in day out is a productivity killer. So provide them with new tasks that allow them to step outside of their comfort zone. 3
Reward them. Let’s face it! Everyone wants some kinds of rewards when working for a company. 4 You don’t necessarily have to increase someone’s pay to encourage them — just make sure you provide enough encouragement so that you keep top talent.
Be straightforward. If you let your workers stay in the dark about the goings-on of your business, they’ll feel being kept out. 5 Always be straightforward with your workers and let them know about any trying times the company faces.
A.Listen to their needs.
B.Create a welcoming environment.
C.It can be as simple as a free lunch or a gift card.
D.Set an example to your workers by working hard.
E.In this way they will increasingly believe in their abilities.
F.So keeping open communication is very important for a good team.
G.Encourage workers, making them feel they are important to you.
Passage 4
Recycling is good for our planet, but it can be confusing. Can I recycle plastic bags? What about pizza cartons? Toothpaste tubes? Which bin should I use? There are so many questions, and more than half of Americans are unsure about how to recycle. 1 Here’s a handy four-step guide on how to recycle effectively:
Know what to put in the recycling bin. Keep it simple and focus on the most commonly recycled items, such as paper, glass, aluminum and plastic. 2 Don’t use the recycled symbol as a guide. “The number on the container is really for people to identify the type of resin (树脂). That’s not helpful for the common consumer,” said Cody Marshall, a strategist at nonprofit Recycling Partnership.
3 It is really important to know what you cannot put in your bin. You can always check with your city or at BeRecycled.org. If you live in the US, just plug in your postcode to search. Recycling companies struggle with the same problem items: hoses (软管), cords, needles and clothing, according to Marshall, so don’t put those items in your bin.
Wash or clean items. Do a quick clean to make sure there is no food left in containers before you put them in the bin. 4 Save food for composting (堆肥) in your garden.
Don’t bag it. Unless you live in a place that requires it, like New York City, keep the recyclables lost in the bin. “A lot of the time, it’s not safe for our employees to tear those bags open, or it takes too much time,” said Keller. “ 5 ”
A.Know what is not recyclable.
B.The answers are not hard to find.
C.A lot of bagged stuff goes right to the landfill.
D.Plastic bags can be used again or returned to grocery stores.
E.If you really don’t know if an item is recyclable, then just throw it in the garbage.
F.This is really important if you only use one bin because food items could ruin paper.
G.Hard plastics like water and soft drink bottles or anything like these can be recycled.

Passage 1
Have you ever failed to recognize a close friend or family member, particularly when you see them unexpectedly or after they’ve had a haircut? If so, you might have face blindness—officially called prosopagnosia (脸盲症). 1 .
Symptoms vary widely among those with the condition. 2 . Watching TV or movies can be a frightening task, as those with the condition may struggle to remember who the different characters are. When meeting a new person, people with face blindness may also try to remember their clothes or hairstyle instead of their face.
Not surprisingly, another trait that typically goes along with face blindness is social anxiety. Failing to understand facial expressions can lead to a difficulty forming relationships or making friends. People with face blindness may avoid social interaction. 3 . And even experience periods of depression.
4 . It is usually a lifelong problem, and developmental prosopagnosia—which refers to face blindness without having brain damage—is the most common kind. Studies suggest that around 2% of people show signs of developmental prosopagnosia. Some people also develop prosopagnosia after suffering damage to their brain, such as a head injury or a stroke. This is known as acquired prosopagnosia and is relatively rare.
Unfortunately, there is no specific medication or therapy to treat prosopagnosia. 5 , such as recognizing a person’s voice, hairstyle, dress or way of walking, or avoiding places where they are likely to run into people they know. However, these techniques are not always reliable or realistic.
A.Here’s what you need to know about face blindness
B.Other documented strategies are known to be helpful
C.Here are some tips that help us recognize face blindness
D.This may lead them to developing social anxiety disorder
E.Some people with the condition develop strategies to help them cope
F.Some may find it hard to recognize facial expressions in other people
G.Face blindness is not connected to general intelligence or wider memory
Passage 2
If you’re ambitious, you’re bound to feel like a failure from time to time. Regardless of what you achieve, there’s always someone with more, and this can make you feel like you’re losing. But real success is about who you are and how far you’ve come. 1
No longer be the centre of the universe.
We all know “successful” people who act like they’re the centre of the universe. It’s their world and the rest of us just live in it. That’s not success. 1 Other people’s feelings and dreams are just as important as ours, and we cannot succeed without them.
Stay positive.
Hope and optimism are essential components of a happy life. If you dwell on the things that go wrong, you become bitter and resentful. When that happens, you fail — no matter what you may have achieved. Real success means always seeing the bright side. 1
2
You’ve learned that the only people who never fail are those who don’t try. When you fail, you don’t automatically assume that you’re a failure. Instead, you embrace each failure as an opportunity to learn something — and then you move on.
Ask for help when you need it.
Refusing to ask for help, no matter how much you’re struggling, is a sign of emotional immaturity. Asking for help means that you no longer feel like you have something to prove by being perfect. 1 And you understand no one succeeds alone.
A.Know that failure isn’t forever.
B.Real success comes from the inside.
C.Avoid embracing failure as a chance.
D.True success requires the ability to feel empathy.
E.The following indicators may help remind you of the success.
F.It also means believing you can make the worst situations better.
G.It shows you aren’t afraid of people discovering your weaknesses.
Passage 3
Before 2022, there was barely a whisper about it. 1 A quick TikTok search, for instance, finds that videos related to “food noise explained” attracted 1.8 billion views as of this summer. “Food noise”, which sounds negative, actually describes some of the most basic human drives: hunger, appetite, longing. But now these are being seen as problems, rather, than features. 2
To call something noise is to go beyond describing it: It’s to prove that simply loving food, letting food occupy our thoughts and responding to our hunger is questionable. But it isn’t.
1 , Food connects us to ourselves, and with each other, and there is real harm in teaching people to view the pleasure they take such far e as a problem. English food writer Nigella Lawson wrote in a post that she “couldn’t bear to live without food noise.” One commenter responded in a agreement “I believe it is called ‘food music.’”
Some people who agree with the term “food noise” experience intense food thoughts, as well as engaging in harmful behaviors such as bingeing (大吃大喝) 2 In other words, food noise is what may happen when you’re not eating enough to satisfy your appetite, often under the pressure of diet-culture.
As for any of us, the joy and pleasure of food should not be discounted. We need to eat to live, of course, but it goes beyond that, to live to eat has long given many of us meaning. Food noise should not be treated as a problem. 3
A.We should resist this definition.
B.They avoid responsible thoughts on food.
C.“Food noise” was invented by social media users.
D.Rather, we might call it “food music”, and dance to it.
E.The pleasure we take from food is an important human good.
F.But according to the experts, these problems are often rooted in restriction.
G.Now the concept of “food noise” seems to be everywhere on social media.
Passage 4
Have you ever longed for a simpler and more effective way to study? 1 Named after a Nobel prize-winner in physics famous for explaining complex ideas, this method can help you unlock your potential and gain a deep understanding of various topics.
Step 1: Start by getting a blank sheet of paper. Write down everything you already know about a topic. This serves as your initial knowledge base. As you dive deeper into the topic, continue to add new information and insights to your sheet. Be patient during this process. 2
Step 2: Explain your topic in a way that a 12-year-old child could understand. 3 Begin by simplifying your notes. It’s easy to complicate a subject. However, the true challenge, and the true demonstration of understanding, is in simplification. Only someone who truly comprehends a subject can break it down into its simplest terms, making it accessible to people of all ages.
Step 3: Write down your explanations. It is a powerful tool in the learning process. This activity facilitates reflection, through which we identify areas where further learning is needed. The learning process is iterative (迭代的). Never hesitate to go back to the source materials, especially the parts you don’t fully grasp yet. 4 Repeat this process until your explanations are simple and clear.
Step 4: Save the page where you have documented simplified explanations. This is an important step, as this document will serve as a valuable reference in the future. By applying this technique to all new concepts you learn, you will gradually build up a comprehensive folder (文件夹) of knowledge. 5 This way, not only will you be strengthening what you have learned, but you will also have the chance to improve your understanding over time.
A.Consider the Feynman Technique as your answer.
B.Learning is not a race, but a journey of exploration.
C.Make it a habit to review this folder a few times a year.
D.This folder holds complicated explanations provided by others.
E.This also serves as an effective way to test your understanding.
F.Review them, reflect on them, and enhance your understanding.
G.The Feynman technique divides the learning process into four stages.

Passage 6
According to a common saying, “Honesty is the best policy.”But in daily life, honesty can be difficult. 1 Despite this, honesty is really worth an effort.
One obvious reason for honesty is that lies are difficult to maintain. There’s always a chance that the person you lied to will find out the truth. If you make up a story, you have to remember all the details. And the more lies you tell, the more stories you have to remember. 2 This saves you effort and makes conversations less stressful for you.
3 People who believe your lies might make bad decisions because of them. And a lie about someone else could destroy that person’s reputation. On a personal level, if your friends find out you lied to them, their feeling will be hurt. They will question whether they can trust you or wonder whether you care about them. 4 This will help you in every area of your life.
Honesty, however, doesn’t mean you have to say everything in your mind. 5 Honesty means that when you speak, you tell the truth without holding any information back.
When you do that, you will feel more relaxed and enjoy stronger relationships.
A.Being honest is a basic principle for us to deal with others.
B.We will get others’ respect and appreciation if telling the truth.
C.Another obvious reason to avoid lying is that lying can harm others.
D.Sometimes it’s best to remain silent if your words might hurt someone else.
E.But if you commit to telling the truth, you will never have trouble remembering.
F.In contrast, if you always tell the truth, you will develop a reputation for honesty.
G.Lying often seems like a good way to impress people or avoid blame for mistakes.
Passage 7
Going on vacation every week might sound like the very unattainable dream. 1 . All you need to do is get in the habit of treating your weekend like a vacation, suggests Cassie Mogilner Holmes, a professor at UCLA’s Anderson School of Management. We asked experts to share their favorite tips for adopting a vacation mindset at home.Get creative about making time
2 . Some people have to bear weekend schedules packed with work. You could still make the best of a Thursday evening, Holmes suggests. Or, spare an hour on Sunday morning for chores, but protect the rest of the weekend as your vacation time.
3
Decision scientist Nika Kabiri recommends doing something totally new so you can disconnect from the same old routines governing your life. Among her favorite ideas: Drive to a part of town you’ve never been to before, go for a city walk, and grab lunch at the first cute café you see. Or take a bike or boat tour of your city. 4 Don't put extra pressure on yourself
Treating your weekend like a vacation doesn’t mean it needs to be a delicate affair. If your “vacation” encounters a few unexpected affairs or lasts for only a few hours, don’t be annoyed. 5 . Don’t put pressure on yourself to have this “perfect vacation”. It’s meant to be fun. Plus, there’s always another one just a few days away.

I believe in daydreaming now and then—especially when I’m hiking. Being in nature allows my mind to wander where it will, which often starts my creativity as a writer and musician. Now some new science suggests that daydreaming may actually make us happier and more creative. 1
Daydreaming may be good for creativity
Mind—wandering has been associated with creativity for centuries. A study found that people who mind—wandered performed better on their task, the answer coming to them in a flash. 1 —it was just suddenly there.
When people’s minds wander in ways that seem meaningful to them, they tend to have more creative ideas and feel more inspired at the end of the day, too. Interestingly, this is true for both writers and everyday people.
1
Now, findings from a 2021 study suggest that mind—wandering can actually improve your mood. In this study, the researchers found that when people’s thoughts were off—task, they generally felt more negative. But if their thoughts were free—moving. It had the opposite effect, helping people feel happier.
1 . If I simply put myself in a space that lets my mind move freely, I don’t get depressed. On the contrary, I’m happier because of it.
Can we be better mind—wanderers?
Researchers warn that mind—wandering when you need to be focused on a task could cause problems. So, let your mind wander when you’re doing tasks that don’t require focus. 1 .
So, just having more control over when mind—wandering happens and the kind of thoughts that you have would be very useful.
A.The key is that we do it the right way.
B.Mind—wandering can help boost our mood.
C.I find that science supports my own experience.

Why do Dogs Roll in the Grass?
If your dog is anything like mine, she loves rolling around in a patch of grass any chance she gets. And it always makes me happy to watch my dog, Nala, have the time of her life. 1 . Is she cooling off? Is she just super happy? What could it be?
To find out why Nala and so many other dogs like to stop, drop and roll, I reached out to Dr. Stephanie Austin, a veterinarian at Bond Vetin New York City, who explained that dogs can roll in the grass for several reasons! 2
She’s enjoying a smell. 3 . “They are picking up on hundreds of scents that we can’t even comprehend!” Dr. Austin said. “Sometimes they want to enjoy a scent they’ve found in the grass and will roll around in it to do just that.”
She’s covering up her own scent. According to Dr. Austin, there’s another smelly reason why your pup may be rolling around in that patch of grass. “They want to smell like the environment so they don’t scare off their prey,” Dr. Austin said.
She’s cooling off. 1 , that grass may look extra appealing to your dog. It might even be a little wet from a sprinkler—the perfect combo for your dog to cool off.
2 Your dog may also just be relaxed and having fun—and rolling on her back is away to show it!
She’s scratching an itch. “It’s good to exclude any allergies and make sure your dog isn’t rolling a ton to scratch a constantly itchy back or side, but otherwise, it’s probably normal that she’s having a good time,” Dr. Austin said.
If you notice your dog rolling around in the grass, it’s probably just her having the best time ever.
A.She is stretching
B.She’s having fun
C.If it’s boring for your dog
D.If it’s a particularly hot day
E.But I’ve always wondered why she actually does it
F.Here are some common explanations behind this behavior
G.It’s important to remember how powerful your dog’s nose is
Passage 3
All living things need clean, fresh water to survive. Ninety-seven percent of the water on earth is in the ocean. The salt in the ocean water makes it unusable for drinking. Another two percent is frozen in the ice caps and glaciers on the Earth. 1 There are many factors that affect the amount of water available for you. Where you live, the amount of rain that falls, and how water is collected and reserved all affect the amount of cool, clear water available.
One factor that we can’t change is where it will rain. The amount of rain an area receives affects the amount of water available for use. Some major cities are located in areas where they can get water from the ground. 2 Those places with no water readily available must pipe water in from far away.
According to a study done by the state of California, the average person uses over one hundred gallons of water per day. Water is used for drinking, taking a shower or bath, brushing teeth, washing hands, cleaning dishes, doing laundry, and flushing toilets. 3
No matter where you live, there are many ways you can help conserve water. Today, we have many helpful tools to help us save water. There are low-flow shower heads and faucets(水龙头), dishwashers and washing machines that use up to 50% less water. 4
There are many other ways you can help. 5 Take a shower rather than a bath. It’s also important to fix leaky faucets. If you find one, let your parents know. A good way to have cool water available all the time is to keep a pitcher in the fridge. This way you won’t have to wait for the water in the pipes to bring you colder water to drink. Only run your clothes washer and dishwasher when they are full. This can save hundreds of gallons of water a year.
All of these will help to conserve water. Leaning to use it wisely will ensure that it will always be available. So, make a fuss and conserve water. It’s worth it!
A.Using water wisely is important.
B.Water is an important natural resource.
C.Don’t leave the water running when you brush your teeth.
D.Other areas use surface water from lakes, rivers, or streams.
E.This leaves one percent of the water on Earth available for us to use.
F.Installing these items in your home is the first line of defense against wasting water.
G.Wherever we live, we must be careful with the polluted water we have in our part of the world.

【答案】1.F 2.G 3.A 4.C 5.B
1.根据上文“ But what do astronauts eat, and how do they eat it?”(但是宇航员吃什么,怎么吃?)
3.根据下文“If the food that has been provided is distasteful, then the astronauts may avoid eating it.”(如果提供的食物不可口,宇航员可能会不吃它。) 故选A项。
4.根据上文“Liquids or tiny bits of food could get inside a machine or electronic device and damage it.”(液体或食物残渣可能会进入机器或电子设备并损坏它。) sharp utensils are never used onboard呼应be dangerous。故选C项。
5.根据空格前的句子“The weight of every object included in a spacecraft must be calculated in order to ensure that there is enough fuel and power to carry the craft safely into space and home again.(为了确保有足够的燃料和动力将航天器安全送入太空并返回地球,必须计算航天器中每个物体的重量。)”和下文“Most foods are stored in plastic bags, and often, the foods are dehydrated (脱水).”(大多数食物都储存在塑料袋里,而且通常都是脱水的。)

【答案】1.B 2.G 3.A 4.F 5.C
1.前文“There are so many questions, and more than half of Americans are unsure about how to recycle.(有这么多的问题,超过一半的美国人不确定如何回收)”提及了回收时有太多问题令人困扰,后文“Here’s a handy four-step guide on how to recycle effectively(以下是有效回收垃圾的四步指南)”则说到有效回收的4个步骤。 B项“The answers are not hard to find.(答案不难找到)”的“The answers”对应前文“questions”,句意上与前文构成转折,且可引出后文内容,用在文中可承前启后,符合语境。故选B项。
2.根据主题句“Know what to put in the recycling bin.(知道该把什么放在回收箱里)”可知,该段主要讲述可回收物品,G项“Hard plastics like water and soft drink bottles or anything like these can be recycled.(硬塑料,如水瓶和软饮料瓶或类似的任何东西,都可以回收)”介绍的是可回收的物品,贴合该段主题,符合语境。故选G项。
根据后文“It is really important to know what you cannot put in your bin.(知道哪些东西不能放进垃圾桶是很重要的)”可知,本段介绍的是不可回收的物品。选项A“Know what is not recyclable.(知道什么是不可回收的)”可作该段主题句。故选A项。
4.前文“Do a quick clean to make sure there is no food left in containers before you put them in the bin.(在你把容器放进垃圾桶之前,快速清理一下,确保容器里没有食物残留)”提及要将食物残留清理出来,那么,设空句应解释这样做的原因。选项F“This is really important if you only use one bin because food items could ruin paper.(如果你只用一个垃圾桶,这一点非常重要,因为食物会破坏纸张)”解释了原因,符合语境。故选F项。
5.前文“A lot of the time, it’s not safe for our employees to tear those bags open, or it takes too much time(很多时候,我们的员工撕开这些袋子是不安全的,或者需要花费太多时间)”提及袋装垃圾有危害性或浪费时间。 C“A lot of bagged stuff goes right to the landfill.(很多袋装的东西直接被扔进了垃圾填埋场)”讲到了袋装垃圾不会经过人工处理,直接被扔进了填埋场,符合语境。故选C项。

【答案】1.A 2.F 3.D 4.G 5.E
故选A。
2.后文“Watching TV or movies can be a frightening task, as those with the condition may struggle to remember who the different characters are. When meeting a new person, people with face blindness may also try to remember their clothes or hairstyle instead of their face.(看电视或电影可能是一项可怕的任务,因为患有这种疾病的人可能很难记住不同的角色是谁。当遇到一个陌生人时,脸盲症患者也可能会试图记住他们的衣服或发型,而不是他们的脸)”可知,有脸盲症的人无法记住别人的脸,F选项“有些人可能会发现很难识别他人的面部表情”符合上下文语境。故选F。
3.前文“Failing to understand facial expressions can lead to a difficulty forming relationships or making friends. People with face blindness may avoid social interaction.(不能理解面部表情可能会导致难以建立关系或交朋友。患有脸盲症的人可能会避免社交)”在描述脸盲症患者在社交活动上有困难,D选项“这可能会导致他们患上社交焦虑症”为避免社交活动的危害。故选D。
4.后文“It is usually a lifelong problem, and developmental prosopagnosia—which refers to face blindness without having brain damage—is the most common kind.(这通常是一个终生的问题,发展性面孔失认症是最常见的一种,它指的是没有脑损伤的面部失明)”表明脸盲症的起因,G选项“脸盲症与一般智力或更广泛的记忆力无关”同样描述起因,与后文语境相符,先否定后引出真正原因。故选G。
5.后文“such as recognizing a person’s voice, hairstyle, dress or way of walking, or avoiding places where they are likely to run into people they know.(比如识别一个人的声音、发型、着装或走路方式,或者避开可能遇到熟人的地方)”举例说明如何应对脸盲症,这些都是应对方法,E选项“一些有这种情况的人会制定策略来帮助他们应对”引出下文。故选E。
【答案】1.E 2.D 3.F 4.A 5.G
1.前文“Regardless of what you achieve, there’s always someone with more, and this can make you feel like you’re losing. But real success is about who you are and how far you’ve come.(不管你取得了什么成就,总有人比你做得更多,这会让你觉得自己在失败。但真正的成功是关于你是谁,你已经走了多远)”表示即使成就再多自己也会觉得失败,由此可知,我们需要认识自己的成功,E选项“以下指标可能有助于提醒您的成功”符合题意。故选E。
2.根据本空的前一句“That’s not success.(不是这么回事)”可知,下句应讲真正的成功是什么。下文“Other people’s feelings and dreams are just as important as ours, and we cannot succeed without them.(别人的感受和梦想和我们的一样重要,没有它们我们就无法成功)”描述到别人的感受和梦想,D选项“真正的成功需要共情的能力”表明我们的成功离不开其他人,真正的成功要我们有共情的能力。故选D。
4.空处为本段小标题,根据“You’ve learned that the only people who never fail are those who don’t try.(你已经知道,那些从不失败的人是那些不去尝试的人)”可知只要尝试就可能会失败,以及“Instead, you embrace each failure as an opportunity to learn something—and then you move on.(相反,你把每一次失败都当作一次学习的机会,然后继续前进)”可知应接受失败,继续前行,那么本段的主旨与失败有关,表明应接受一次次失败,只是暂时的。 故选A。
5.根据上文“Asking for help means that you no longer feel like you have something to prove by being perfect.(寻求帮助意味着你不再觉得你需要证明自己是完美的)”及下文“And you understand no one succeeds alone.(你也明白,没有人能独自成功)”可知,空处应表示向别人求助表明的内容,G选项“这表明你不怕别人发现你的弱点”符合语境。故选G。
【答案】1.G 2.A 3.E 4.F 5.D
1.由上文“Before 2022, there was barely a whisper about it.(在 2022 年之前,几乎没有人提及它。)” Now the concept of ‘food noise’ seems to be everywhere on social media.(现在,‘食物噪音’这个概念似乎在社交媒体上无处不在。)
2.由上文“‘Food noise’, which sounds negative, actually describes some of the most basic human drives: hunger, appetite, longing. But now these are being seen as problems, rather, than features.(‘食物噪音’,听起来是负面的,实际上描述了一些最基本的人类驱动力:饥饿、食欲、渴望。但现在这些被视为问题,而不是特征。)”可知,这里在阐述“食物噪音”概念以及人们对其的看法转变,将原本正常的人类驱动力视为问题,而A 项We should resist this definition.(我们应该抵制这种定义。) 故选A项。
3.由下文“Food connects us to ourselves, and with each other, and there is real harm in teaching people to view the pleasure they take such far e as a problem.(食物将我们与自身以及彼此联系起来,教导人们将从食物中获得的快乐视为一个问题是有真正危害的。)” The pleasure we take from food is an important human good.(我们从食物中获得的快乐是人类的一种重要福祉。)
4.由上文“Some people who agree with the term ‘food noise’ experience intense food thoughts, as well as engaging in harmful behaviors such as bingeing (大吃大喝)(一些认同‘食物噪音’这个术语的人会有强烈的食物念头,还会做出大吃大喝等有害行为。)”以及下文“In other words, food noise is what may happen when you’re not eating enough to satisfy your appetite, often under the pressure of diet-culture.(换句话说,食物噪音可能发生在你没有吃足够的东西来满足食欲时,这通常是在节食文化的压力下。)” But according to the experts, these problems are often rooted in restriction.(但据专家说,这些问题往往源于限制。)
5.由上文“Food noise should not be treated as a problem.(食物噪音不应该被视为一个问题。)” Rather, we might call it “food music”, and dance to it.(相反,我们或许可以称它为“食物音乐”,并随之起舞。)
【答案】1.A 2.B 3.E 4.F 5.C

Passage 8
D.Taking a break might be good for our productivity
E.People didn’t even know how they got to the solution
F.I hope people will explore the limits of mind—wandering
G.This may help you feel better or come up with creative ideas
【答案】1.A 2.E 3.B 4.C 5.G

1.根据上文“Now some new science suggests that daydreaming may actually make us happier and more creative.(现在一些新的科学表明,做白日梦实际上可能让我们更快乐,更有创造力。)” 故选A项。
2.根据上文“A study found that people who mind—wandered performed better on their task, the answer coming to them in a flash.(一项研究发现,走心的人在任务上表现得更好,答案会瞬间出现。)”和下文“it was just suddenly there.(只是突然出现。)”
本段主旨句“Now, findings from a 2021 study suggest that mind—wandering can actually improve your mood.(现在2021 年的一项研究结果表明,走神实际上可以改善你的情绪。)”
4.根据下文“If I simply put myself in a space that lets my mind move freely, I don’t get depressed. On the contrary, I’m happier because of it.(如果我只是把自己放在一个让我的思想自由活动的空间里,我就不会感到沮丧。 相反,我因此更快乐。)” 可知,作者提到了自己的经历,因此C项“我发现科学能够支持我自己的经历”符合上下文逻辑关系。故选C项。
5.根据上文“Researchers warn that mind—wandering when you need to be focused on a task could cause problems. So, let your mind wander when you’re doing tasks that don’t require focus.(研究人员警告说,当你需要专注于一项任务时,走神可能会导致问题。 所以,当你做不需要集中注意力的任务时,才可以走神。)”,可知,选项继续说说明走神的好处。G项说“这会让你感觉更好,想出有创意的想法”, 符合语境。故选G项。

Passage 2

【答案】1.E 2.D 3.A 4.F 5.C

1.根据上文的“All living things need clean, fresh water to survive. Ninety-seven percent of the water on earth is in the ocean. The salt in the ocean water makes it unusable for drinking. Another two percent is frozen in the ice caps and glaciers on the Earth.(所有生物都需要干净、新鲜的水才能生存。地球上97%的水都在海洋中。海水中的盐分使它不能饮用。另外2%被冻结在地球上的冰帽和冰川中。)”和下文的“There are many factors that affect the amount of water available for you. Where you live, the amount of rain that falls, and how water is collected and reserved all affect the amount of cool, clear water available.(有很多因素会影响你能得到的水。你居住的地方,降雨量,以及水的收集和储存方式都会影响到凉爽、清澈的水的数量。)”可知,E项(这使得地球上只有1%的水可供我们使用。)承接上文,说明了人类可以使用的水并不多,下文指出在这1%的水中还有许多因素影响人们可用的水。故选E项。
2.根据上文的“One factor that we can’t change is where it will rain. The amount of rain an area receives affects the amount of water available for use. Some major cities are located in areas where they can get water from the ground.(我们不能改变的一个因素是下雨的地点。一个地区的降雨量影响着可用水量。一些大城市位于可以从地下取水的地区。)”和下文的“Those places with no water readily available must pipe water in from far away.(那些没有可用水的地方必须从很远的地方用管道输水。)”
3.根据上文的“According to a study done by the state of California, the average person uses over one hundred gallons of water per day. Water is used for drinking, taking a shower or bath, brushing teeth, washing hands, cleaning dishes, doing laundry, and flushing toilets. (根据加利福尼亚州的一项研究,平均每人每天使用超过100加仑的水。水用于饮用、淋浴或洗澡、刷牙、洗手、洗碗、洗衣服和冲厕所。)”可知,该州的人均用水量是比较大的,因此A项(合理地用水是很重要的。)承接上文,说明了,合理用水的必要性。故选A项。
4.根据上文的“No matter where you live, there are many ways you can help conserve water. Today, we have many helpful tools to help us save water. There are low-flow shower heads and faucets, dishwashers and washing machines that use up to 50% less water. (无论你住在哪里,都有很多方法可以帮助节约用水。今天,我们有许多有用的工具来帮助我们节约用水。有低流量的淋浴喷头和水龙头,洗碗机和洗衣机的用水量最多可减少50%。)”可知,F项(在家里安装这些设备是防止浪费水的第一道防线。)承接上文,强调安装上文提到的节约用水设备的必要性。故选F项。
5.根据上文的“There are many other ways you can help. (还有很多其他的方法你可以帮助节约用水。)”和下文的“Take a shower rather than a bath. This can save hundreds of gallons of water a year.(用淋浴代替泡澡。修理漏水的水龙头也很重要。如果你找到了,告诉你的父母。让冷水随时可用的一个好方法是在冰箱里放一个水罐。这样你就不用等水管里的水给你带来更冷的水喝了。洗衣机和洗碗机满了的时候再开动。这样每年可以节省数百加仑的水。 )”可知,C项(刷牙的时候不要让水开着。)承接上文,举例说明了一种节约用水的方法,下文继续举例说明节约用水的方法。故选C项。
