Everyone has a different idea about what achieving success involves. For some, they want to lose weight. For others, they desire to build a business that creates financial freedom.
Whatever success means to you, it has probably shaped you over the years by the images you see of people in creating success for themselves. Social media has millions of daily users that are sharing information about their life and business. You see their stories of success and wins. It’s not uncommon for people to share successes without talking about the struggle on the path to accomplishing those. As a matter of fact, we can’t see the whole picture when someone shares his/her wins. In other words, we get caught in the comparison trap which can weaken the success-seekers. If you’re going to reach new growth levels and accomplish your goals, you’ll need to stop chasing a false image of success.
The Internet and social media have created a culture in which individuals can instantly get a sense of satisfaction with themselves. You post an achievement, and immediate praise follows. That satisfaction is exciting and makes individuals want to experience it often. The vanity(虚荣心) causes false decision about what’s going on in someone’s life. If your image of success is this vanity-driven false one, your looking into someone else’s success journey is a surface-level glance. You can’t base what you do and the decisions you make on the little bit you see.
A smart strategy is when you see success, model it and use what you see from others as motivation. But don’t let a surface-level image be your driving force towards your goals. A false image of success has held you back for far too long. Let the false images of success come and go. After all, attitude drives actions. Actions drive results. Results drive lifestyles.
4. What is the common practice of the successful people?
A. They are always shaped by other people’s success.
B. They often compare their success with others’.
C. They don’t mention their hard work for success.
D. They’d like to share their advantages over others.
5. What does the underlined word “it” in paragraph 3 refer to?
A. A culture. B. A new growth level.
C. The path to success. D. The sense of satisfaction.
6. How should we view other people’s success?
A. By copying it with great ambition.
B. By creating an image of our own success.
C. By motivating ourselves to achieve our goals.
D. By making comparisons to find out our shortcomings.
7. What does the author mainly intend to tell us?
A. We can seek for success in different ways.
B. We should not chase a false image of success.
C. We can turn our goals into reality on our own.
D. We’d better not make a decision based on social media.
【答案】4. C 5. D 6. C 7. B
根据文章第二段“It’s not uncommon for people to share successes without talking about the struggle on the path to accomplishing those (人们分享成功却不谈论在实现成功的道路上所付出的努力,这并不罕见)”可知,成功的人不提及他们为成功所付出的努力。故选C。
【5题详解】
词义猜测题。根据上句“That satisfaction is exciting and makes individuals want to experience (这种满足感令人兴奋,让人想要体验)”可知,人想要经常体验这种令人兴奋满足感。“it”指代本句的“that satisfaction(这种满足感)”。故选D。
【6题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章最后一段“A smart strategy is when you see success, model it and use what you see from others as motivation. But don’t let a surface-level image be your driving force towards your goals. (一个聪明的策略是当你看到成功时,模仿它,把你从别人身上看到的作为动力,但不要让表面的形象成为你实现目标的动力)”可知,我们应该通过激励自己实现目标来看待别人的成功。故选C。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第二段“If you’re going to reach new growth levels and accomplish your goals, you’ll need to stop chasing a false image of success. (如果你想达到新的增长水平,实现你的目标,你需要停止追逐成功的错误形象)”以及最后一段“A false image of success has held you back for far too long. Let the false images of success come and go. After all, attitude drives actions. Actions drive results. Results drive lifestyles.(对成功的错误想象已经拖你后腿太久了。让成功的假象来了又走吧。毕竟,态度驱动行动。行为驱动的结果。结果驱动的生活方式)”推知,作者通过这篇文章告诉我们,不应该追逐成功的虚假形象。故选B。

When Tina Farr visits the year 2 classroom at her Oxford primary school, she can feel the change in atmosphere since play was put firmly back on the curriculum (课程). “The children come running up with things they have made. There is always a shop on the go so they will be pricing up something or finding change,” the headteacher says.
Play-based learning — letting children move around, make up games and explore within loosely guided activities — usually stops when they attend primary school. Lessons then become desk-based, focused on reading and writing.
Farr had long championed the value of play, working hard to bring it into break time. “Teachers would recognize what we do and it doesn’t take any more planning than the standard approach.” With play-based learning in place for her year 1 and 2 children, Farr then looked at where else she could change any practices that weren’t working. “If a practice isn’t in line with healthy child development, why are we doing it?”
The school’s year 5 children — aged nine and 10 — were struggling to sit still in a tight space so she removed all the furniture. “The impact was immediate and impressive. Children now choose where and how to learn. A class once struggling with attention is now calm and engaged.” A teacher noted: “Their self-regulation has improved greatly. They settle down to work much more readily.”
Farr believes the outdated system needs urgent change. “We have neuroscience (神经科学) that shows us children learn through play.” In June the school sailed through its OFSTED inspection. “The inspector really understood our play-based learning.” Farr’s message is that her approach can be rolled out. “It’s blown my mind how engaged the children are. It’s phenomenal (了不起的),” she says.
8. Which of the following best describes “play-based learning”?
A. Children following clear instructions to complete art projects.
B. Children creating their own games and exploring personal interests.
C. Children completing academic worksheets at their desks.
D. Children memorizing facts through repetitive classroom drills.
9. Why did Farr implement play-based learning?
A. To reduce teaching preparation time. B. To improve exam performance.
C. To support child development. D. To attract media attention.
10. How did the fifth graders respond to the new classroom arrangement?
A. Became more distracted. B. Gained better concentration.
C. Grew more independent. D. Developed stronger opinions.
11. What does the final paragraph emphasize about Farr’s approach?
A. Its scientific basis. B. Its implementation costs.
C. Its popularity with parents. D. Its academic achievements.
【答案】8. B 9. C 10. B 11. A
【解析】
【导语】本文是一篇新闻报道。文章介绍了校长Tina Farr在学校推行游戏化学习的创新做法及其积极成效。
【8题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第二段中“Play-based learning — letting children move around, make up games and explore within loosely guided activities(以游戏为基础的学习——让孩子们四处走动,在松散的指导下进行游戏和探索)”可知,游戏化学习,让孩子们在宽松的引导活动中自由活动、编游戏和探索。选项B中的“creating their own games”直接对应原文中的“make up games”,而“exploring personal interests”精准概括了“explore within loosely guided activities”的本质,完美抓住了自主创造和自由探索的两个核心要素。故选B。
【9题详解】
推理判断题。根据文章第三段中的“If a practice isn’t in line with healthy child development, why are we doing it?(如果一种做法不符合儿童的健康发展,我们为什么要这么做?)”可推知,Farr的主要目的是支持儿童健康发展。故选C。
【10题详解】
细节理解题。根据文章第四段中的“The impact was immediate and impressive. Children now choose where and how to learn. A class once struggling with attention is now calm and engaged.(其影响立竿见影,令人印象深刻。孩子们现在可以选择在哪里和如何学习。一个曾经难以集中注意力的班级现在变得平静而投入)”和“Their self-regulation has improved greatly. They settle down to work much more readily.(他们的自我调节能力大大提高。
故选A。

Healthcare organizations face big problems: costs are rising, but income is growing slowly. Cloud technology offers a solution by replacing outdated systems, improving efficiency, and enhancing care. Key benefits include helping doctors make better decisions by giving them faster access to patient information, lowering costs by making operations run smoother — which is crucial when government payments are low — and providing stronger security to protect patient data. As Dr. Michelle Flemmings from Oracle notes, older computer systems often made work harder with repetitive tasks, while the cloud makes accessing data easier and reduces doctors’ workload.
Adding AI makes the cloud even more powerful. AI acts like a smart helper for doctors. Flemmings compares it to having a top medical expert by your side. AI helps assess patient risks, suggests best practices, and finds vital information in health records instantly. This teamwork speeds up tasks, like finding patients who qualify for clinical trials during regular visits — opportunities often missed before. Also, AI-powered patient websites offer personalized services like online booking, meeting the high demand for digital options.
Cloud uses are growing fast: reducing missed appointments, automating complex data analysis, spotting security risks, and simplifying administration tasks. However, moving to the cloud has challenges, mainly cost and security worries. Flemmings advises starting small with pilot projects to fix specific problems, especially for smaller hospitals. Importantly, cloud security is often better than old systems, with AI boosting threat detection. As Amar Nagaram from IU Health highlights, the cloud simplifies tech systems and improves teamwork.
Ultimately, the cloud is changing healthcare’s future. It cuts costs and tech burdens while speeding up innovation. Secure cloud tools let patients access care remotely, beyond the clinic. Nagaram states that without cloud tech, healthcare groups can’t compete. While moving needs careful planning, progress is happening. For example, IU Health uses AI to prioritize urgent patient help requests. Cloud technology is building a foundation for healthcare focused on patients, quality, and constant innovation.
12. What are the primary pressures driving healthcare towards cloud adoption?
A. Demand for better patient experiences.
B. Shortage of physical data storage space.
C. Rising costs and slowing revenue growth.
D. Government requirements for new technology.
13. How is AI described when assisting a doctor?
A. A clinical support tool. B. A top consultant nearby.
C. A real-time data processor. D. An independent advisor.
14. What is the recommended strategy for adopting cloud technology?
A. Gradual launch starting small. B. Ignoring cost considerations.
C. Taking full-system migration. D. Outsourcing all IT operations.
15. Which can be a suitable title for the text?
A. The Rise of Digital Patient Portals.
B. The AI Revolution in Medical Diagnosis.
C. Cutting Healthcare Costs Through Technology.
D. Revolutionizing Healthcare Through Cloud Technology.
【答案】12. C 13. B 14. A 15. D

【15题详解】
主旨大意题。根据最后一段“Ultimately, the cloud is changing healthcare’s future. 第二节(满分25分)
47. 阅读下面短文,根据其内容和所给段落开头再续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的故事。
It was a weekend. I had already planned to hang out with my friends. However, my mother called after work, her voice filled with childlike excitement. She explained that her company was having a spring outing the next day and asked if I could stop by the bakery on my way home to buy her a bag of coconut bread for lunch.
Without even thinking, I refused, telling her I couldn’t spare time because I had already made plans with my friends. She bargained with me for a long time, insisting that it’s just buying a bag of bread — it wouldn’t take long or delay me. She was almost angry by the end of it, so I reluctantly (勉强地) agreed.
But as soon as I saw the bakery from a distance, my heart sank. The store was packed, with a long queue snaking all the way outside. I couldn’t help but groan (叹息) hopelessly. A: the line inched forward, I kept checking the time, standing on tiptoe to look ahead, dizzy from hunger. I couldn’t understand my mother — why wouldn’t she just stay home and rest on a weekend? Spring outings were for kids!
Just then, someone behind me called softly, “Miss.”
I turned around, seeing a middle-aged woman I didn’t recognize. Annoyed, I asked impatiently, “What?”
Her smile was almost humble. “Look, I’m just one person behind you, but that means I’ll have to wait for another batch (一批). I’m buying this for my son — he’s going on a spring outing tomorrow. I still need to rush home to cook dinner and take him to his tutoring class. If you’re not in a hurry, I was wondering if...”
“Who are you buying for?” she asked.
Without hesitation, I answered, “For my mom. She’s going on a spring outing tomorrow.” For some reason, as soon as I said that, the entire bakery fell into silence. All eyes turned toward me.
注意:
1.续写词数应为150个左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Paragraph 1
She asked loudly, “Who did you say you’re buying for?”
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
Paragraph 2
The woman ahead of me turned around and asked me to go first.
____________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
【答案】Paragraph 1
She asked loudly, “Who did you say you’re buying for?” I repeated, a bit nervously, “For my mom.” She looked at me with a mixture of surprise and admiration and said, “You’re such a good daughter. Your mom must be very happy.” At that moment, I felt a rush of shame. I realized that I had been so impatient and reluctant to do this small thing for my mother, while this woman was so eager to buy something for her son. I thought about how much my mother had done for me over the years, and how little I had given back.
Paragraph 2
The woman ahead of me turned around and asked me to go first. She said, “You should go ahead. Your mom is going on a spring outing too. It’s important.” I was touched by her kindness. I tried to refuse, but she insisted. So, I thanked her and moved to the front of the line. When I finally got the coconut bread, I held it tightly in my hands. I couldn’t wait to give it to my mother and tell her that I was sorry for my earlier attitude. I realized that even the smallest act of kindness for our parents can mean a lot to them.

C
10 How did the fifth graders respond to the new classroom arrangement?
A. Became more distracted. B. Gained better concentration.
C. Grew more independent. D. Developed stronger opinions.
11. What does the final paragraph emphasize about Farr’s approach?
A. Its scientific basis. B. Its implementation costs.
C. Its popularity with parents. D. Its academic achievements.
D

All living things in the ocean are endangered by humans polluting the water. ___16___ One way is the dumping( 倾倒) of certain waste materials, such as garbage and used water, into the ocean. The harmful bacteria that feed on the garbage use up much of the oxygen in the surrounding water, so other creatures in the area often don’t get enough.
Other substances( 物 质 ), such as radioactive waste material, can also cause pollution. ___17___ But after years of being exposed to the ocean water, the containers may begin to leak(漏).
___18___ Oil is spilled into the ocean when oil ships sink or when oil wells in the ocean cannot be capped. The oil covers the gills( 腮 ) of fish and prevents them from breathing. Diving birds get the oil on their wings and are unable to fly. When they clean themselves, they are often poisoned by the oil.
Rivers also can contribute to the pollution of oceans. ___19___ Fertilizers used on the farmlands may be carried to the ocean, where they cause a great increase in the amount of certain plants. Too much of some plants can actually be poisonous to fish.
Worse yet are the pesticides(杀虫剂) carried to the ocean. these chemicals slowly build up in fish and other small animals. ___20___ The buildup of these chemicals in the animals can make them ill or cause their babies to be born dead or sick.

It was a weekend. I had already planned to hang out with my friends. However, my mother called after work, her voice filled with childlike excitement. She explained that her company was having a spring outing the next day and asked if I could stop by the bakery on my way home to buy her a bag of coconut bread for lunch.
Without even thinking I refused, telling her I couldn’t spare time because I had already made plans with my friends.
