读后续写8:送给孙子的圣诞礼物
I was working in a major UK toy store. One Christmas, the highly sought-after items were remote - controlled toy cars. They came in different colors and had various features, making them a popular choice among kids.
One morning, an elderly woman entered the store. She was wandering around, looking a bit lost and confused as she browsed through the shelves. Eventually, she made her way to the section where the remote-controlled toys were displayed. She took out a piece of paper from her pocket, examined it carefully, and then approached the counter with a hesitant look.
I accompanied her back to the remote-controlled toy section. She handed me the note, which read, “I hope my grandma, my only family member, always stays healthy. And I really want a remote - controlled car for Christmas.” As I read the wish list, a wave of pity washed over me. This little boy, who had lost his parents at a young age and now only had his grandma, first thought of her well - being.
I nodded and assured her that she was in the right place. A smile spread across her face, and she seemed relieved that she had found the right item. “I've come such a long way,” she said. “My grandson's so well - behaved. Every day, he helps me with the housework around our small house. I want to give him something he really wanted for Christmas.” As she spoke, her eyes shone with love.
I slowly introduced the different models available to her, their features and the prices. She listened carefully. After some consideration, she decided to choose the cheapest one.
When it was time for the elderly woman to pay, she counted the money in her hands carefully, and her face gradually showed signs of anxiety. Looking a bit embarrassed, she raised her head and said in a shaky voice that she was a little short of money. As it turned out, she was only £5 short, but to her, it seemed like an unbridgeable gap. So, with a heavy heart, she decided to come back and buy the toy car next time.
