Look around you. How many things are made of plastic (塑料)? From water bottles and toys to TVs and mobile phones, plastic is everywhere in our daily lives. It first became popular last century. The reason is that it is lightweight, strong, and does not cost much to produce. Also, it can be shaped into almost any form we need.
However, plastic’s greatest strength has become its biggest weakness: it lasts for a very long time. Most plastic does not break down naturally. It stays in the environment for hundreds of years. Every year, millions of tons of plastic waste end up in our oceans and landfills (垃圾填埋场). This waste hurts wildlife and pollutes the environment. A lot of this waste comes from single-use items, like bags, straws (吸管) and food packages, which we throw away after using them just once.
So, what can we do about this problem? The key is not to stop using plastic completely. It is still too useful in many important areas, like in medicine and technology. Instead, we must focus on the three Rs! Reduce (减少), Reuse, and Recycle. This means we should reduce our use of unnecessary plastic. We should try to reuse plastic items as many times as possible. We should always put plastic waste in the right recycling bins (垃圾桶). New technologies are also helping us find better ways to deal with plastic, like making new kinds that can break down more easily in the future.
26. How is the passage organized?
A. By setting examples and comparing facts.
B. By telling a story and teaching a lesson.
C. By raising a problem and providing solutions.
27. Which can be called a single-use item?

28. Why does plastic waste pollute the environment?
A. Because it hurts wildlife.
B. Because it doesn’t break down naturally.
C. Because it’s thrown away after being used just once.
29. What does the writer advise us to do in order to solve the problem?
A. We should make high-tech plastic medical products.
B. We should only use plastic in necessary situations.
C. We should reuse plastic with the help of the bins.
30 What can we infer (推测) about plastic according to the passage?
A. People will not use plastics anymore.
B. People will never make single-use plastics.
C. People will develop plastics that break down naturally.

Anne’s Decision
(Adapted from Anne of Green Gobles)
Anne of Green Gables
Anne was adopted (收养) by Marilla when she was little. They lived happily together on a farm called Green Gables. Now Anne is going to a university out of town, but Marilla gets sick.
Anne came back and found Marilla sitting by the kitchen table. She looked tired.
“Are you OK, Marilla?”
“I saw the doctor,” Marilla said sadly. “But it’s no good talking about it, Anne. Can you get me a cup of tea?”
“Could you tell me what the doctor said?” Anne asked softly as she brought tea to Marilla.
“He said I must give up all reading and sewing, or I will go blind.”
“Marilla, don’t think of it.” said Anne, “There is still hope.”
“I don’t know,” said Marilla. “I’m afraid I have to sell Green Gables!”
Anne was surprised. “Oh, Marilla, you can’t! It’s our home!”
“What else can I do, Anne? I’m sorry you won’t have a home to come to during your university holidays.” Marilla began to cry.
That night, Anne sat in the darkness, alone with her tears and heavy heart. But later, there was a smile on her lips and peace in her heart.
The next day, she spoke with Marilla. “You mustn’t sell Green Gables. ▲ I can’t leave you alone. Marilla. I’ll read to you. We’ll be happy together.”
“Oh, Anne, you can’t do that for me.”
“But I want to! Nothing is worse than giving up our home.”
“But your dreams ...”
“My dreams are the same: to be a good teacher, and to help you stay healthy. Nobody loves Green Gables as we do. We must keep it.”
Most people, not knowing about Marilla’s eyes, thought Anne was foolish. Mrs Lynde, their neighbour, did not. She often found Anne and Marilla sitting outside their home. They liked sitting there at dusk (黄昏), when the smell of Nowers filled the air.
31. Why did Marilla plan to sell Green Gables?
A. Because if she doesn’t do so, she will go blind.
B. Because the doctor advised her to sell Green Gables.
C. Because she believed she could no longer take care of the farm.
32. How did Anne feel at the end of the night?
A. Peaceful. B. Sad. C. Worried.
33. Which sentence can be filled in ________?
A. I’m going to teach here.

34. What can we learn about Anne’s character from the story?
A. Kind and hardworking. B. Caring and helpful. C. Foolish but friendly.

Are you a curious (好奇的) person?
If you’re often thirsty for learning more about something, then you probably are. But as American researcher Perry Zurn points out; not all curious minds are cut from the same cloth. There are at least three styles of curiosity: “busybodies,” “hunters” and “dancers.”
“Busybodies” like to collect bits of information on all kinds of topics. They’re not chasing (追求) any certain goal. They’re just interested in the world around them. “Hunters” go after the answers which they are sure about. They follow a clear road to reach their goals. “Dancers” jump at new ideas or connected old ones in new ways. They would like to take the road less traveled.
Zurn and his team went on to see how these curiosity styles play out in real life. They researched readers of the online Wikipedia (维基百科). These 482, 000 people are from 50 countries. For each person, the team looked at how many different topics he or she read about and how closely those topics were connected. For example, did someone look up Pierre Perifel—a famous film director, and then read about his new film, The Bad Guys 27 Or did he or she jump from the film director to Pu’er tea?
The results showed that all three types of curious minds exist (存在) among today’s internet users. “Busybodies” read widely, but they especially liked sports, food and the arts. “Hunters” cared more about science and technology. Interestingly, they were more possibly to feel stressed after their curious search than the other two types. That’s probably because they had a stronger drive to fill in the blanks (空白处) in their knowledge.
Zurn says we are each born with a natural curiosity style. However, our style isn’t set in stone. We can develop the other two styles by spending time with teachers or friends who think differently. That’s good news. After all, curiosity works best when all three styles exist in one mind.

The Longtaitou Festival, also known as the Eryue’er Festival, is a traditional Chinese festival named for the day it falls on. The name means “dragon raising its head”, carrying a sense of hope.
In Chinese ancient farming culture, this festival holds great importance. It is said that on this day the dragon king who is in control of rain will wake up from sleep and lift his head. People believe that after the Longtaitou Festival, the rain will gradually increase. It marks the start of the busy farming season.
The celebration of the Longtaitou Festival is rich in traditions. One of the most well-known customs is getting a haircut. Many people believe that cutting their hair in the first lunar month will bring bad luck. And having a haircut on the Longtaitou Festival can bring good luck and success all the year. In some areas, people eat noodles, dumplings, spring rolls, wontons (云吞) which are all given dragon names on this day. Noodles are called longxu. Dumplings are called long’er. Spring rolls are called longlin. Wontons are called longyan. It’s said that eating these foods can bring good luck.

This was done to ask for a harvest (丰收) with the help of the dragon. However, as time goes by, some of these ancient customs have slowly died out.

30. What can we infer (推测) about plastic according to the passage?
A. People will not use plastics anymore.
B People will never make single-use plastics.

【答案】例文
Dear Mike,
I’m so excited you’re coming to China next month! Let me tell you about Chinese paper cutting and how China has changed lately.
Paper cutting is a great traditional art. We use red paper to make it. The steps are easy: first, fold the paper; then draw patterns on it; next, cut along the lines; finally, unfold it. It’s not just beautiful—it symbolizes good wishes (like happiness) for our lives.
China has changed a lot, too. In the past, people paid with cash, talked face to face, and rode bikes. But now, we use mobile payment to buy things. We chat on WeChat or QQ instead of meeting in person. And subways run everywhere, so we travel much faster than before.
I can’t wait to show you paper cutting and these cool changes!
Best wishes,
Li Hua
