Passage 1
(24-25高二上·广东汕尾·期末)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
This year, I felt very nervous about my English class because I am an international student and this is my first time studying in the UK. I knew I wouldn’t know anyone in the class, which made me a bit anxious. But since I didn’t know anyone, I had the chance to do something I almost enjoy as much as socializing — people-watching.
There was another international student in the class, and she was one of the most interesting girls. She sat right behind me. She was always laughing, chatting non-stop, and seemed so happy all the time. She was also very friendly and one of the few people in the class who tried to greet me. She was the kind of person you would like, even if you didn’t really know her.
At the end of the academic year, we were assigned a big project. The requirements for this project were quite open; basically, we had to read an article, then read or watch related materials, and finally give a class presentation based on what we had learned. The presentations were scheduled for the last month of the semester. Since everyone chose different topics and presented them in different ways, we saw some of the most interesting and diverse presentations I’d ever seen.
The girl sitting behind me gave her presentation in the last few days. She walked up to the podium (讲台) and told everyone that she had once read an article about not fitting in while living in a foreign country, because she herself had gone through, that kind of struggle. Since it was too difficult to talk about it directly with us, she showed us parts of her diary, sharing her feelings of being homesick and struggling to adjust to a new environment, and how she overcame these difficulties.

Passage 2
(24-25高二上·广东深圳宝安区·期末)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写一段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Matt was the best hitter in the team. But a week ago, he was hit by a high ball from Travis Barnes, a member of the opposing team — Giants. He was sent to the hospital. Though the doctor said he was fine, he was still having a shadow (阴影).
“I don’t want to push you,” Coach said, “but you’ re our best hitter. We really want you to come back in the game.” Matt wanted to say no, but Coach looked so hopeful-and Matt was running out of excuses.
The memory of being hit was still fresh, making him frightened. Matt’s thoughts were interrupted by George, the team’s second-best hitter. He sat down beside him. “I’m glad you’re playing the Giants again on Saturday. I can’t wait to see Travis’s face when you walk up to the field,” he went on cheerfully. “It’ll be payback time.”
Matt realized that there was no way out. If he didn’t face Travis, everyone would think Matt was a coward.
Saturday came soon. Matt took a deep breath and headed for the field. The crowd shouted encouragement. But the first pitch (投球) caught Matt off-guard (不提防). He jumped back, worried to be hit again. A roar of laughter went through the crowd. Travis was probably laughing at him too, Matt thought to himself.
But then it seemed there was something wrong with Travis. He made so many mistakes that the Giants’ coach had to call time-out(暂停). Even if there was a talk with the coach, Travis’s skills were declining. Matt swung the bat and the ball dropped in front of the center fielder. Riley raced home, beating a close throw. Payback! Matt’s team scored a point and then another two. Soon they won the game! The crowd cheered. Matt stood at first base, relieved. But he slightly felt there was something wrong with Travis.
注意:1.续写词数应为80左右;
2.开头已给出。
After the game, Matt found Travis on the baseball field looking sad.

It was a beautiful Saturday morning. The sun was shining brightly, and a gentle breeze was sb blowing. With excitement and a bit of unwillingness, Sam and Jack participated in their school’s outdoor program and were hiking in a mountain.
Though having heard about the trip before, Sam and Jack weren’t quite sure what to expect. As they set off on the adventure with their group, they found themselves following a dirt path, and the pebbles underfoot made their feet quite uncomfortable. Though they had only been hiking for just over half an hour, for Sam and Jack, it felt as if an entire century had passed by.
The two city boys exchanged bored glances. Neither the green hills nor the twittering of birds could interest them. They were longing for the online gaming and the familiar glow of their smartphone screens.
As the group walked in the woods, Sam and Jack started to feel really bored. They were eager to play a new game on their phones.
Sam whispered to Jack, “Hey, this new game is s more fun than this I nature walking.”
Jack agreed and looked around to see if anyone was watching. “But what if we get caught?” he asked.
Sam thought for a while, and then said with a naughty smile, “If we leave quietly, nobody will notice we are gone.”
They chatted for a moment more, and with a grin, they slipped off the path and headed into a direction different from their group.
In the woods, Sam and Jack found a quiet spot and began playing on their phones. They were so into the game that they forgot about everything else and lost track of time. But unfortunately, their fun didn’t last long. The screens on their phones started to go dark as the batteries were running out.

Passage 1

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was a boy, I always wore turtleneck shirts because I was so sensitive and shy. I worked hard to earn exceptional marks and always tried to behave well. I was younger than everyone else because my good marks had allowed me to skip second grade, but this added nothing to my already low self-confidence.
When I was 14, my parents divorced (离婚). I moved in with my dad in a new neighborhood, but he was always so busy and had little time for me. It seemed the only time he ever spoke to me was to be demanding or critical. I began to hate coming home from school every day. I sank further into my low self-esteem (自尊心) and was overwhelmed with feeling unappreciated and alone.
One day, my aunt called. This seemed like a miracle (奇迹) to me. Aunt Ginette usually only called once a year, on my birthday. She said she had just seen some young teenagers participate in a public speaking contest, and she thought I should try it, too. She told me she firmly believed I could perform on stage like the other kids since she had seen me do skits (幽默小品) for the family at Christmas.
I was a little surprised. Me? Onstage? In a public speaking contest? I was hesitant. But Aunt Ginette was so confident and seemed really serious. Feeling her strong belief, I went against all odds and agreed to enter the contest.
All that winter, twice a week after dinner, I took three different buses for the three-hour round-trip to practice in Ville d’Anjou, where the competition would take place. Although my dad really did love me and wanted the best for me, he disapproved of this new dream, fearing it would take away from my homework time and impact my academic performance. But I remained a top performer in school and never missed a day.

A Precious Dress
I was raised in a family where my parents were united in their way of bringing up children, but it mostly fell to my mother to actually carry it out, and she managed the family budget effortlessly. Looking back, I honestly think I would be a different person if my mum hadn’t turned a dress into a life lesson I carry with me today.
If we complained about not having what another kid did, we’d hear something like I don’t care what so-and-so got for his birthday, you are not getting a car for your birthday or a lavish sweet-16 party. We had to earn our allowance (零用钱) by doing chores around the house. My brothers can no doubt remember hours spent cleaning the house. I can still remember how long it took to polish the legs of our dining table. Sometimes, I couldn’t even contain my envy of Chloe, a neighbourhood girl, always beautifully dressed, whose parents satisfied her with almost every need.
One day, my mother drove me downtown to buy some household necessities-and there it was in the shopping window. Pink, lovely, delicately trimmed (镶嵌着) with lace, the dress winked (眨眼) at me and I knew I had to have it. “It’s beautiful, ” my mother said when I pointed it out to her. “What a beautiful dress! ”
I tried to hide my desire at first. But then I guess I couldn’t stand it any longer. “Mum, please get it? I’ll do anything, but I need that dress. I love it. Please?”
I was desperate.
“You know,” she said, gently rubbing my back, “if you save up, you could buy this yourself.”
“By the time I make enough, it’ll be sold!”
“There might be a way,” she said.
And so our paying plan unfolded. Mum bought the dress and put it safely in some hiding place where I couldn’t find. Each week I eagerly counted my growing savings increased by extra work. Weeks later, I counted and jumped for joy. Oh, I made it! I finally had the exact amount we’d agreed on Having put on my dress, I flew to school like a bird. However, the unthinkable happened.
The moment I arrived at the school gate, Chloe appeared in exactly the same dress.

Eric, my friend, always wore a smile on his face. Unfortunately, he suffered from a rare brain disease. One day I noticed that he didn’t come to school.
Two days later, my teacher — Mrs. Carina said Eric was in hospital again. He needed to have an operation. Feeling sad, I spent the rest of the day thinking about how frightened, helpless and hopeless Eric must feel, facing such a big challenge. How sad Eric’s parents would be! I was so sorry for Eric, and I wanted to do something for him.
Another friend told me that Eric loved pandas. I remembered that my brother had recently taught me how to make a toy panda. Right then, I decided to make Eric a toy panda for luck and hope. I also made a card for Eric. I told him that he always had a place in my heart and that I hoped that he would recover quickly. The next day after school, I gave the toy panda and the card to my teacher, for she was going to visit Eric at the hospital. She was surprised and thanked me on behalf of Eric’s family.
One day, as I passed our meeting room, I saw many people sitting inside. I took a closer look and was amazed. There were almost all of my teachers, and a woman I had never seen before. Then one of the teachers came out and invited me to go in. He told me that the woman was Eric’s mom and that she was asking about me.

At just 12 years old, Sidney Vansleve has begun a remarkable journey to transform the lives of homeless individuals, one pair of socks at a time. Her mission, though seemingly simple, holds immense significance — socks, an often-overlooked necessity, are crucial for the well-being of those without a permanent roof over their heads.
“You don’t fully appreciate their importance until you’re forced to go without them for an extended period,” Sidney remarks thoughtfully. This realization dawned upon her after learning about the pressing need for socks among the homeless community, highlighted by the nonprofit organization Hope the Mission. Inspired by this revelation, Sidney decided to team up with Hope the Mission to launch a campaign to collect socks for the homeless.
Her ambitious target? A quarter of a million pairs — an astonishing number that would ensure every client at Hope the Mission receives clean socks for an entire year. “We’re nearly at 200,000 pairs, but we need a final push to reach our goal,” shares Rowan Vansleve, the CFO of Hope the Mission and Sidney’s proud father.
Sidney credits her father as her biggest inspiration. “Without him, I wouldn’t have dreamed of doing this,” she admits gratefully. Rowan, equally as touched, responds, “I’m so proud to be her dad; she’s an extraordinary person.”
To facilitate donations, Sidney has set up two convenient methods: contributors can either add to her Amazon wishlist or visit any of the 29 Starbucks locations listed on the Hope of the Valley website. “People can donate in various packs or even just a single pair,” Sidney explains.
With the deadline for sock donations looming (迫近的) on December 27th, Sidney’s ambitions don’t stop there. She aims to make her mark in a different way — by breaking a Guinness World Record.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
One morning in April, when I found something was wrong with Alice’s mother, it rained. It seemed as if the Texas sky were sobbing (啜泣). I didn’t know what kind of cancer Mrs. Hastings had until later, but I knew her condition was serious — very serious.
I love Mr. and Mrs. Hastings almost as much as I love my own parents, and Alice is my best friend. But I didn’t want to go to school that day. And I sure didn’t want to see Alice.
What could I possibly say to her? What do people say to their friends at such a time? I tried every trick I knew to avoid going to school. But my mother insisted.
“You have a history test this morning, Linda,” she said, looking at me as if she’d crawled into my mind and knew I was just making excuses. Then she smiled and said, “Be sure to stay close to Alice, especially today, because that poor girl is going to need your strength.”
Strength? What was Mother talking about? I had no strength. I didn’t even know what to say to my best friend. I hid out in the reading room between classes in the hope of avoiding meeting with Alice, but she was never out of my thoughts. I kept trying to come up with something appropriate to say to her because I really wanted to get it right.
Alice and I had the last class in Mrs. Green’s class. I’d avoided seeing her all day, I was going to have to face her in the last period, and I still didn’t have a plan. However, I worried needlessly because Alice never showed up for class. When the English class was over, Mrs. Green said, “Linda, Alice Hastings is your best friend, and she is coming here in a few minutes to get her lesson assignments.”
It seemed as if something was torturing (折磨) my heart and I trembled inwardly. I still didn’t know what to say to Alice, and time was running out.

Passage 4
(24-25高二上·广东广州越秀区·期末)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
When I was teaching art and craft classes in a primary school, there was a wonderful tradition of exchanging handwork as gifts on New Year’s Eve. As the great day approached, the excitement among my twenty-five third graders began to build.
Each day the children made some new wonders — colorful lanterns, hand-made decorations and beautiful window paper-cuts made from wallpaper samples, which we carefully stuck onto the window glass. Through it all, Alice stayed uninterested, watching from a distance, seemingly miles away. This once-so-happy child, after her mum passed away, now became so suddenly quiet and lonely. She had built the wall of isolation (孤立) around herself. How I hoped the celebrations would light her up! But nothing did. We made lovely cards for each other, writing down sweet wishes. At home, the students made small crafts and competed with one another to bring in the prettiest ones. As my gift to them, I made each of my students a little bag for carrying their crafts. And I knew they had each made something special for me.
The day of gift exchanging finally came. We oohed and aahed (赞叹) over our handwork as the presents were exchanged. But Alice sat quietly watching. I had made a special bag for her, red and blue with white lace, hoping very much to see her smile. She opened it so slowly and carefully. I waited but she turned away, avoiding looking directly at me.
After school, the children left in little groups, but she hesitated, watching them go out of the door. I sat down in a chair, hardly knowing what was happening when she came to me reaching out her hands, holding a small white box unwrapped and slightly dirty, as though it had been held many times by unwashed, childish hands. She said nothing.

It was Friday, and the clock was ticking, with only 15 minutes left until lunch. The classroom was filled with a sense of anticipation as Mrs. Stretch announced that it was time for the much-loved game, Around the World.
Around the World was Eddie’s absolute favorite classroom game. He loved racing against a classmate to solve a math problem and calling out the answer. Eddie won against some kids and lost against others. Eddie’s best friend Michael never lost a math challenge. He was the champion of Around the World in the class and could even beat a fourth grader. Under Michael’s influence, the entire class was motivated to study harder and developed a newfound love for math.
“Talia, you start,” said Mrs. Stretch. Talia was new to the class. Last week, she had watched how the game was played, but this would be her first time playing. Talia jumped up and went over to Luka’s desk. Luka stood up too. “Twelve times two,” said Mrs. Stretch. There was a pause as Talia and Luka raced to work out the multiplication (乘法) problem in their head.
“Twenty-four!” Talia called out first. “Right,” said Mrs. Stretch. Talia was the winner so she moved on to challenge the next student. Luka sat down.
Surprisingly, it wasn’t long before Talia had beat several classmates. Then Talia was in front of Eddie’s desk.
“Six times seven?” asked Mrs. Stretch. “Forty-two!” Talia shouted, a second before Eddie could. Eddie was disappointed he had lost to Talia, but he was happy he also knew the right answer.
It was thrilling to watch the game going on. Talia seemed to be unstoppable. Finally. Talia got to Michael. He was the last one she’d have 1o beat to be today’s champion. At that time, the whole classroom was charged with an electric intensity as everyone held their breath.
“Eight times twelve.” Mrs. Stretch said, her voice cutting through the thick silence.

Passage 6

Frank Daily stared down at the frozen ground. He kicked chunks of snow with his new Nike shoes. He only pretended to listen to the chat of his friends, Norm and Ed, as they all got on the number 10 bus after school.
Frank and his friends sat down at the back of the bus along with several other high school boys, some from other schools. The bus headed west on Blue Mound Road. He still remembered another cold, gray day just a month ago in November when his world crashed down around him, as he read the team list, searching desperately for his name. It wasn’t there.
The bus braked suddenly, and Frank naturally pressed his Nikes against the floor. “It must have been my size,” he thought, “Five-feet-four. Since I’m new at Marquette High, the coach must have taken one look at me and my shoes and decided I was too small to join the basketball team.” He had been a star athlete in all the sports in primary school. Now, it seemed he was a nothing.
The bus stopped at the County Institutions grounds. Frank glanced up at the driver, who had a nickname “Kojak” because of his bald head.
An elderly woman hung onto the handrail and slowly pulled herself onto the bus. As she sank into the seat behind the bus driver, her feet kicked up, and Frank saw that she was barefoot.
As Kojak got the bus back into traffic, he yelled over his shoulder, “Where are your shoes, lady? It was below 10 degrees out there.” “I can’t afford shoes,” the woman answered. She pulled her worn-out coat collar around her neck. Some of the boys at the back exchanged glances and laughed.
“I got on the bus just to get my feet warm,” the woman continued. “If you don’t mind, I’ll just ride around with you for a bit.”
Kojak scratched his bald head and shouted, “Now just tell me how come you can’t afford shoes?”
“My husband is badly ill in the hospital, so we only have money for food and necessities,” the woman said in a low voice.

Passage 7

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
Mary was the art teacher for primary school students. On this particular day, she was guiding them through the process of drawing a scenic landscape. Akila yawned(打哈欠), clearly disinterested - drawing wasn’t her thing. A small group of students gathered around Tina, laughing at her unusual drawing: a sun sporting sunglasses and trees topped with ice cream cones.
Mary instructed Tina firmly but with unease, “Draw it the way I showed you.” As the lesson continued, doubt crept into Mary’s mind. Had the joy of creativity been overshadowed by the pressure to fit in? She scanned the room, observing her students’ faces – some concentrated, others uncertain. Akila’s disinterest was clear and Tina’s imaginative drawing had been met with ridicule instead of praise.
After class, Mary sat down with Tina, her tone softening, “Why did you draw the sun with sunglasses and the trees with ice creams?” she asked gently.
Tina’s eyes sparkled with a touch of rebellion (叛逆)-“I love ice cream, and I thought the sun would look cool with sunglasses. Why do we always have to draw like everyone else?”
Mary paused, her thoughts racing. Tina’s drawings weren’t just curious —they were a window into a world where imagination ruled, where rales could be bent into delightful chaos. Was she, by enforcing a rigid style, killing that very creativity?
The next morning, Mary walked into the classroom with a renewed sense of purpose. She placed a large sheet of paper in front of the class and announced a new project: they would create a collective(集体的)artwork titled “Our Dream World” with no rules. They were free to use colors, shapes, and patterns however they wished.
At first, the students hesitated, unsure of this newfound freedom. Akila leaned back, skeptical of what seemed like another pointless exercise. But Tina, her creativity no longer restricted, eagerly grabbed her crayons and began to draw with abandon. Then, Maya joined in. And then Michael...

Mr. Barnes was a very wealthy man who lived in the early days in the United States. It was one of his chief pleasures to walk through the countryside near his home, and as he walked, he often noticed a particularly fine group of cattle. One day he stopped to visit the rancher (牧场主) who owned the cattle and purchased a cow from him with the agreement that the cow would be delivered to his house the following day.
The next day as Mr. Barnes was out for his morning walk, he saw a young boy trying his hardest to lead the cow over to Mr. Barnes’ field. The boy, who did not know Mr. Barnes, called to him, “Please sir, would you come and help me with this cow? It is so stubborn!”
Mr. Barnes readily agreed and went over to help. As they walked along together, he asked the boy, “How much do you expect to get for delivering the cow?”
“I… I don’t know,” the boy said, “but I think I’ll get something because the people who are buying the cow live in that house, and those people are very kind to everyone.”
By now the stubborn cow was walking along nicely, so Mr. Barnes excused himself and took a path through a wooded area that led to his back door. As soon as he got into the house, he gave one of his trusted workers a fifty-dollar bill and told him to give it to the boy who was delivering the cow. After the cow had been left at the house and the boy was returning to the ranch, Mr. Barnes went out again and met the boy on the road.
“Well, how much did you get?” asked Mr. Barnes.
“Five dollars,” answered the boy.

Passage 9
(23-24高二上·广东江门·调研)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
The Most Precious Gift
In the sixth grade, our teacher assigned “secret friends” for the coming week. The purpose of this assignment was to do nice things for your friend without letting them know who was doing it. We could leave encouraging notes on their desk or mysteriously leave a card in their backpack or book. Our teacher wrote each kid’s name on a piece of paper and threw them into a bucket, then we each closed our eyes and drew the name of the classmate who we were to secretly make friends with and support over the next five school days.
However, by the middle of the week, everyone, including me, had turned this assignment into a contest to see whose secret friend could leave the best gift. Instead of encouraging notes, we left stationery sets (文具) on our friend’s desk. Instead of giving compliments, we were giving snacks, candies and even money. It seemed that everyone was getting cool presents from their friends, except me.
My friend followed our teacher’s directions without a fault. I received handmade cards, notes with nice thoughts and countless smiley-face pictures claiming that I was one of the nicest girls in the class. My friend seemed to think highly of me from the notes that were left, but the lack of gifts made me wonder what was up with whoever had pulled my name.
On the last morning of our assignment, I walked into my classroom and noticed that there was a package on my desk. I eagerly unwrapped it and stared down at my desk. There sat a hand-made rabbit, wearing blue dark clothes with messy ears. Beside it was a note, saying “Your favorite rabbit. Hope you will like it.” The girls sitting near me made fun of the “odd and ugly” gift I had received and laughed at me. I felt my face turn red, angrily threw it into the desk and dashed out of the classroom. The moment I was out, someone called my name. She was Mary, a girl who was shy and always sat at the corner of the classroom.

主题01 人与自我——生活与学习
注意:
1.续写词数应为150左右;
2.请按如下格式在答题卡的相应位置作答。
Almost everyone was moved at the end of her presentation.

【答案】
Almost everyone was moved at the end of her presentation. Her courage to share such personal experiences touched us deeply. It made me realize that the challenges I had been facing as an international student were not unique to me. Many of us, even though we came from different countries and cultures, had gone through similar struggles of homesickness, loneliness, and the feeling of not fitting in. I could see that her words helped others in the class feel more connected and understood. We all began to look at each other not as strangers but as individuals who shared common experiences.
She was relieved and her mood had lightened when she returned to her seat. I could tell that her presentation had helped her let go of some of the weight she had been carrying. She smiled at me as I turned around, and for the first time since I’d met her, I could see a calm, peaceful expression on her face. It was as if she had finally found a way to make peace with her experience and was no longer burdened by it. I decided to have a talk with her. I felt good to share my own feelings with her, and at that moment, I realized how much easier it was to connect with others when we opened up about our struggles.

Travis sighed, admitting his poor performance. “I’ve been off since that hit,” he confessed. Matt reassured him, “It was an accident; everyone has bad days.” Travis looked relieved, acknowledging his mistake and impact on Matt. “I didn’t mean to affect you,” Travis said. Matt smiled, easing the tension. “It’s in the past. We both love this game.” They shared a moment of mutual respect.

The sky was turning orange and red, and the shadows were getting longer. “Jack, it is getting dark soon,” he said. “We have no idea where we are. ”Jack looked up, his eyes wide with fear as he realized they were alone in the wilderness. They shouted for help, but their voices seemed to get lost in the vastness of the woods. They decided to put their phones away and started to retrace their steps. Carefully looking for signs of the group, they were anxious to find their way back before nightfall. Just then, they heard something not too far away. (101words)

Passage 1
(23-24高二上·广东汕头潮阳区·期末)

When I saw my father’s face, his eyes were shining-he was so proud.

【答案】Four months later, the big night arrived. Waiting anxiously alongside the other competitors, I couldn’t keep from trembling. Taking a deep breath, I tried my best to control my emotions, murmuring to myself, “You can do it!” Finally, it was my turn. I adjusted my clothes, confidently rose to my feet and strode (大步走) onto the stage. I stood there and firmly began my speech, which I had practiced hundreds of times. Words smoothly flew out of my mouth like a beautiful melody, and it was then that I spotted my father in the audience.
When I saw my father’s face, his eyes were shining-he was so proud. Somehow, I gained energy from his expression and finished the speech smoothly. Sitting by my dad, I waited for the result and the previous tightness was replaced by a sense of relief. Dad gently patted my shoulder, saying, “Well done,” and gave me a big hug. “I now realize how wrong I was to criticize you all the time. I should have appreciated you more.” Hearing this, tears welled up in my eyes, blurring the surroundings. It turned out I got the first prize and we cheered happily. Since then, I have looked at the world with brand-new confidence, heading toward my bright future.

Hearing me crying loudly, Mum gently pushed open the door.

【答案】参考范文:
The moment I arrived at the school gate, Chloe appeared in exactly the same dress. At the sight of this horrible turn of events, I was green with envy. “How ridiculous!” my heart sank. For Chloe, getting such a dress was merely a piece of cake, while for me, I had to do it with all my might. With a mixed feeling of rage and grief, I dashed home to tell my mother about this disaster. “It’s unfair!” I exclaimed with fury, storming into my room and slamming the door before she could respond.
Hearing me crying, Mum gently pushed open the door. “Honey, are you OK?” she walked up to me, gathered me into her arms and tenderly wiped away my tears. “Look!” she pointed at the shiny dress hanging in the most visible place, adding “Your dress is the most precious one because you paid for it. Don’t you think so?” On hearing what she said, I felt much relieved. “Yes, you earned it through hard work,” a firm and cheerful voice answered in my heart. Nothing could be better than gaining the precious thing in that way!

Feeling excited and curious, I walked into the meeting room, following the teacher. Eric’s mom stood up and greeted me with a warm hug. Her eyes were red from crying, but she managed a small smile as she thanked me for the thoughtful gifts I had sent to Eric. She told me how much the toy panda and the card had lifted his spirits during his hospital stay. I felt a surge of emotion, knowing that my small gestures had made a difference to him.
One morning about twenty days later, entering the classroom, I found Eric looking at me with a big smile on his seat. My heart skipped a beat with joy and relief. Eric was back, and it seemed that a part of our class was finally complete. He was thinner, but his smile was as bright as ever. We exchanged a long, tight hug, and he showed me the well-loved toy panda he had brought back with him. The class gathered around, and there was a palpable sense of happiness and unity. It was a moment none of us would forget.

阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】
Before distributing the socks, Sidney wrote a note saying “you are loved” and attached it to each pair. She believed this simple message could bring warmth and hope. “I want them to know that someone cares,” Sidney said. Her team packed the socks carefully, and volunteers handed them out at Hope the Mission. When receiving the socks that were neatly packed, recipients were deeply moved, expressing gratitude. After hearing about her deeds, a local news reporter interviewed her.
After the report, donations flooded in from across the country. News of Sidney’s campaign spread widely, garnering support from social media, celebrities, schools, and businesses. By the deadline, the campaign had collected over 250,000 pairs of socks, not only meeting but exceeding the initial target, but also breaking a Guinness World Record. Sidney’s efforts did not go unnoticed; she received recognition from local government officials and national organizations, further amplifying her message of kindness and support for the homeless community. Sidney’s initiative not only transformed the lives of countless individuals but also inspired a new generation to take action and make a difference in their communities.

【答案】I left the classroom, racing down the hall and out of the front gate of our school. I was so nervous to see her. I told myself to calm down and thought about what my mother had told me this morning. I said to myself, “I am her best friend. Encouraging her to face her mother’s illness bravely is what I should do.” I wrote down the words which I wanted to say, hoping my letter would comfort her and give her courage. After finishing the letter, a familiar figure came into my sight. That was Alice. I ran to her immediately.
As I drew nearer to her, my throat tightened, making it impossible to speak. I wanted to reach out to her, to offer a hug or at least a reassuring smile, but my body seemed frozen in place. Alice looked at me and tears dropped from her eyes. I hugged her and summoned up the courage to say, “I am sorry to know your mother’s illness. Remember whenever you need help, and I will be your side. Be brave and don’t let your mother down. Then I handed my letter to her. Alice took over it and held my hand tightly.

【答案】One possible version:
“For me?” I asked with a weak smile. She said nothing, nodding her head. I took the box and carefully opened it. There inside, lay a golden chain. An idea suddenly occurred to me-she had made it for her mother, who would never again hold her or brush her hair or share a funny story. We couldn’t see any smile on her face after her mother passed away three weeks before. I stood there, not knowing how to comfort her well.
I carefully held out the chain. She took it, putting it on at the back of my neck. She stepped back as if to see whether all was well. I looked down at the golden chain, then back at her, “Maria, it is so beautiful. She would have loved it.” Neither of us could stop the tears. She threw herself into my arms, her eyes filled with tears. At that moment I became her mother, for she had given me the greatest gift of all: herself.

“Ninety-six!” the answer swiftly escaped Talia’s lips. Michael stood there, a look of shock on his face. For a moment, the classroom was so quiet that you could hear a pin drop. Then, a huge cheer erupted from the students. Talia had beaten the undefeated champion! Michael forced a smile, but it was clear he was disappointed. After class, he sat alone at his desk, lost in thought. Eddie noticed and decided to talk to him.
“No, Michael. We didn’t cheer against you.” Eddie said. “We were just excited for Talia. She’s new, and she worked really hard. You are still the best in our hearts. You inspired us to love math. And now, Talia has shown us that there’s always someone amazing out there. Let’s be happy for her and keep improving ourselves.” Michael looked up at Eddie, and his frown slowly turned into a smile. “You’re right,” he said. “I should be proud of Talia. And I will work even harder to be better.” From that day on, the class became even more enthusiastic about math, with everyone inspired by each other’s progress.

Frank looked down at his new Nike basketball shoes. His feet were warm and cosy. When he glanced at the woman who was dressed in rags, a sense of sorrow swept over him. With a complicated mood, he slipped the shoes off under his seat. When the bus stopped, Frank waited until everyone else had got off. Then he reached under his seat and picked up his basketball shoes. He walked quickly up to the woman and handed them to her, looking down and saying, “Here, lady, you need these more than I do.”
Then Frank hurried to the door and was about to step down. He heard the woman exclaim, “Look, they fit me just perfectly!” Then he heard Kojak said, “I’ve never seen anything like that in the 20 years I’ve been driving this bus.” The woman was crying. “Thank you, young man,” she said. He smiled at the woman. “It’s no big deal.” He hurried off after Norm and Ed. It seemed to him that the grayness had lifted. On the way home, hardly could he feel the cold beneath his feet at all.

【答案】Paragraph 1: As the students worked. Mary observed them with curiosity. She noticed how Akila, initially disinterested, had quietly chosen vibrant colors and was now blending them together to create a swirling sky filled with fantastical creatures that flew over a stone castle. Meanwhile, Tina was enthusiastically adding playful details to her section of the paper-a whimsical garden where flowers wore hats and creatures rested on the ice cream-topped trees. Mary felt a wave of relief washed over her. The room was alive with chatter and laughter, as Akila and Tina frequently exchanged ideas and inspired one another. Akila even leaned over to admire Tina’s ice cream trees and said, “That is mind-blowing!” It was wonderful to see them cooperate, their initial differences melting away in the warmth of shared creativity.
Paragraph 2: Mary stood back and surveyed the creation. The enomious canvas had transformed into a magnificent portrayal of each student’s imagination, forming a breathtaking landscape that reflected their individuality yet spoke to their collective spirit. Mary felt a sense of pride swell within her; she realized that in letting go of rigid structures, her students gave their painting an unrealistic but dream-like quality. Akila, Tina, and the rest of the class had not only embraced their own creative paths but had also nurtured each other’s ideas. They were thrilled, “It was the best painting ever! We should definitely hang it on the wall!” Inspired by the moment, Mary decided to host an exhibition of their dream world, inviting parents and other classes to admire the beauty of imagination unleashed in her classroom.

Passage 8
(23-24高二上·广东部分学校·期末)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

【答案】参考范文:
Mr. Barnes felt surprised when hearing the answer. “Only five dollars? You must have gotten more than that,” Mr. Barnes said with certainty. “No, that’s what I was given, and that was plenty, don’t you think?” answered the boy with a happy smile and a little doubt. “No, I’m surprised it wasn’t more,” said Mr. Barnes. “I know Mr. Barnes well and he will give much more than five dollars. I believe that if you come back with me, you’ll get more than five dollars.”
The boy agreed, and they walked back to the house together. When they went in, Mr. Barnes called his workers and asked the boy to tell him who had given him the five dollars. “It was him,” the boy said, pointing to one of the workers. When the man realized his dishonesty had been discovered, he admitted it and felt embarrassed. Mr. Barmes demanded that he give the fifty dollars to the boy immediately.

【答案】
“I’m your secret friend,” she wept. “I’m terribly sorry about the gift,” she whispered to me, sobbing with her face hidden in her hands. Frustrated and somewhat grieved, she explained that she couldn’t afford a fancy present, so she decided to make one herself. She stayed up all night last night to finish the hand-made rabbit, so that she could give it to me on the last day of assignment.
Knowing that she had stayed up late to make the rabbit, I was ashamed. Regretful and kind of embarrassed, I was sick to my stomach as my actions ran through my mind. I felt my throat was tightened as if a rock were stuck in it because I ruined everything she specially prepared for me. I regretted my actions and kept apologizing to her. Along with my apologies, I explained the reason. Actually I didn’t dislike the present that she gave me, I just felt a bit embarrassed when I received it with many classmates watching me and discussing my gift. Relieved and delighted, she flashed a smile to me, looking me in the eyes and comforted me that she understood my difficult situations because she had been trying to fit in, too. “We share something in common, don’t we?” she said, with a broad smile spreading over her face. Her simple words, spoken from her heart, found their way straight into mine. Touched immensely, I felt warmth flowing through me. That day, I gained a real “secret friend” and also learned to cherish real friendship.
