Healthy Eating
There is much debate nowadays as to what makes up a healthy diet. For example, scientists have insisted for years that a big enemy of health is fatty food. 1 People who receive 25% of their daily calories (热量)or more through sugar are twice as likely to die from heart disease than people who receive less than 10% a day.
2 On average, people get 1/3 of their sugar through sweet drinks alone. You need to limit yourselves to less than 100-150 calories a day from sugar. In other words, if you want to be healthy, you have to cut down on desserts, and cut out sweet drinks altogether.
Beyond this, you can keep healthy by consuming different types of fresh foods, which are full of vitamins and fibre, rather than processed foods. It is also important to have some meat, beans, or dairy products in your diet. As with everything in life, moderation (适度)is key. 3
Finally, a key to healthy eating is to eat slowly. It takes about twenty minutes from the time you start eating for your brain to tell your body that you are full. 4 In addition, studies show that consistent eating habits, for example, taking three meals a day at the same time each day, are better for our health.
There is no one secret to healthy eating. 5 One question you can ask yourself is, “Do I eat to live, or live to eat?” It is up to you to decide how you want to live, and to make the right decisions about your diet.
A.It starts with having a healthy attitude towards food.
B.Healthy foods help protect you against lots of diseases.
C.Processed foods often contain a large amount of sugar.
D.Much of extra sugar comes from sweets and sweet drinks.
E.What this means is that people who eat too quickly end up eating too much.
F.The ideal diet is a balanced one, without too much or too little of any one thing.
G.However, there is increasing evidence that the real driver of poor health is sugar.
【答案】1.G 2.D 3.F 4.E 5.A
1.根据下文“People who receive 25% of their daily calories (热量)or more through sugar are twice as likely to die from heart disease than people who receive less than 10% a day.”(每天从糖中摄取25%或以上热量的人死于心脏病的可能性是每天摄入少于10%热量的人的两倍。)
2.根据下文“On average, people get 1/3 of their sugar through sweet drinks alone.”(人们平均有三分之一的糖分来自甜饮料)推知,空处说明糖的来源。
3.根据上文“As with everything in life, moderation (适度)is key”(和生活中的所有事情一样,适度是关键)可知,选项承接上文具体说明适度性。
4.根据上文“Finally, a key to health y eating is to eat slowly. It takes about twenty minutes from the time you start eating for your brain to tell your body that you are full.”(最后,健康饮食的关键是慢慢吃。
5.根据下文“One question you can ask yourself is, “Do I eat to live, or live to eat?” It is up to you to decide how you want to live, and to make the right decisions about your diet.(你可以问自己一个问题:“我是为了活着而吃,还是为了吃而活着?”这取决于你决定你想要如何生活,并对你的饮食做出正确的决定。)”可知,要对食物有个健康的态度。故A选项“以对食物有一个健康的态度开始”切题。故选A项。
Tips for making conversation
Some people seem to be born to know how to start a conversation with anyone in any place. 1 Here are some easy ways to talk to a new person.
Talk about the things around or the event.
If you’re at a party, you can say something nice about the place, the food or the music. Like “I love this song a lot.” “The food is really good. Have you tried the chicken?” 1 For example, “I like your bag, where did you buy it?” or “You seem to know what to do. Can you tell me where to sign in?” These are the best topics for people present to talk about what both know.
2
A good question requires more than just a yes or no answer. Follow the journalist’s way and ask a question starting with one of the 5 W’s (or 1 H): who, where, when, what, why,or how. For example,“Who do you know here?” “Where do you usually go on a Friday?” “When did you move here?” “What keeps you busy?” 3 “How is the wine?” Most people like to talk about themselves, so asking a question is a good way to start a conversation.
Listen carefully.
Listening isn’t the same as just waiting to talk. You can’t pay attention to what others are saying if you’re thinking about what you’ll say next. Good communication needs you to fix your attention completely on the speaker and show your interest in their words. Nod once in a while, smile at them, and make sure your body position is friendly and welcoming. 1
As a matter of fact, what truly matters is still your willingness and courage After so, no one will start a conservation with someone who keeps silent all the time.
A.Giving a praise is OK too.
B.Ask an open-ended question.
C.Ask question as much as you can.
D.Sometimes, lies of goodness will also help.
E.“Why did you decide to become a vegetarian(素食主义者)?”
F.Encourage the speaker to continue using simple responses like “yes” or “uh huh”.
G.If you’re not one of those lucky types who can make friends easily, don’t worry.
【答案】1.G 2.A 3.B 4.E 5.F
1.根据上文“Some people seem to be born to know how to start a conversation with anyone in any place.(有些人似乎天生就善于在任何地方与任何人开启对话)”可知,选项承接上文说如果你不是这类幸运儿也别担心,后面接着给出与陌生人交谈的简单方法,起到了很好的过渡衔接作用,逻辑连贯。
2.根据下文“For example, “I like your bag, where did you buy it?” or “You seem to know what to do.(例如,“我喜欢你的包,你在哪里买的?”或者“你似乎知道该怎么做)”可知,后文是对是上文给出赞扬的具体说明。A选项“给予赞扬也是可以的”切题,引起下文。故选A项。
3.根据下文“A good question requires more than just a yes or no answer. Follow the journalist’s way and ask a question starting with one of the 5 W’s (or 1 H): who, where, when, what, why,or how.(一个好问题需要的不仅仅是“是”或“不是”的答案。按照记者的方式,用5个W(或1个H)中的一个开头提问:谁、在哪里、何时、什么、为什么、如何)”可知,本段主要讲问一个开放式的问题。故B选项“问一个开放式的问题”切题,为本段的标题。故选B项。
4.根据上文“For example,“Who do you know here?” “Where do you usually go on a Friday?” “When did you move here?” “What keeps you busy?”(例如,“你在这里认识谁?”“你星期五通常去哪里?”“你什么时候搬到这儿来的?”“你为什么这么忙?”)”可知,前面已经列举了“Who”“Where”“When”“What”“How”相关的例子,这里补充一个“Why”开头的例子“Why did you decide to become a vegetarian(素食主义者)?”,使例子更加完整全面。故选E。
5.根据上文“Nod once in a while, smile at them, and make sure your body position is friendly and welcoming.( 时不时点头,对他们微笑,确保你的身势语是友好和受欢迎的)”可知,选项承接上文,这里鼓励说话者继续表达。

Passage 1
At 40, I fell in love with cycling and joined a local cycling club. I befriended cycling lovers and we often went cycling together. 1 I decided to go on a solo (独自的) cycling journey from Singapore to Indonesia.
My late grandfather was born in Bagansiapiapi, Indonesia. Growing up, I’d hear all kinds of stories about his childhood before he moved to Singapore. I was anxious to visit his birthplace but I never acted on it until the idea of cycling there came to mind. 2 And I decided to go big — make the whole journey across the island and head to the northernmost tip of Indonesia.
I made sure I planned my first solo ride around Indonesia well. My whole trip would cover more than 1,600 km. I aimed to cycle around 100 km to 140 km a day, which would take about four to six hours. I had to leave room for flexibility. Possible bicycle breakdowns and accidents needed to be taken into account. 3
During the first leg of the journey, I hardly felt tired because I was so driven by my excitement. Reaching Bagansiapiapi, I immediately asked about the history relating to the large Chinese community there. I learned that a Chinese family surnamed Tan did live there for years. In the 1940s, they moved to another part of Southeast Asia. The locals couldn’t remember the names so I wasn’t sure whether it was my grandfather’s family. 4 All the small pieces of the history reminded me of the hard work of my forefathers to find a better life for their later generations.
5 Once, I got lost while cycling towards Lake Toba. Luckily, a family of three showed me the right directions. The whole journey was unforgettable. I was thankful that I could witness the land where my grandparents had ever lived and that I had completed such a challenging cycling journey myself.
A.I knew I had to make it happen.
B.At age 49, I developed a thirst for adventure.
C.My cycling journey was not without challenges.
D.Or I was just feeling extra tired on a certain day.
E.However, the possibility left me feeling excited and satisfied.
F.I took note of a few potential hostels and other accommodations.
G.I felt a little regret for not exploring more of my family’s detailed history.
【答案】1.B 2.A 3.D 4.E 5.C
1.根据上文“At 40, I fell in love with cycling and joined a local cycling club. I befriended cycling lovers and we often went cycling together.( 40岁时,我爱上了骑自行车,并加入了当地的一个自行车俱乐部。我和自行车爱好者成了朋友,我们经常一起去骑自行车)”可知,作者40岁时爱上了骑自行车,并加入了当地的自行车俱乐部,与骑行爱好者交朋友并经常一起骑行。B选项“At age 49, I developed a thirst for adventure. (49岁时,我渴望冒险) ”承接上文,说明作者在49岁时有了新的追求——冒险,因此决定独自骑行从新加坡到印度尼西亚。这符合逻辑顺序和语境,起到了承上启下的作用。故选B。
2.根据上文“Growing up, I’d hear all kinds of stories about his childhood before he moved to Singapore. I was anxious to visit his birthplace but I never acted on it until the idea of cycling there came to mind.(在他移居新加坡之前,我听过他各种各样的童年故事。我很想去他的出生地看看,但一直没有付诸行动,直到我想到骑车去那里)”提到作者一直想去祖父的出生地印度尼西亚,但从未付诸行动,直到想到骑自行车去那里。A选项“I knew I had to make it happen. (我知道我必须让它发生) ”紧承上文,表达了作者决定要实现这个想法的决心。下文“And I decided to go big — make the whole journey across the island and head to the northernmost tip of Indonesia.(于是我决定做一次大的尝试——横穿整个岛屿,前往印尼的最北端)”进一步说明了作者的计划,与A选项相呼应。故选A。
3.根据上文“I made sure I planned my first solo ride around Indonesia well. My whole trip would cover more than 1,600 km. I aimed to cycle around 100 km to 140 km a day, which would take about four to six hours. I had to leave room for flexibility. Possible bicycle breakdowns and accidents needed to be taken into account. (我确保我的第一次独自在印度尼西亚骑行计划得很好。我的整个旅程将超过1600公里。我的目标是每天骑100到140公里,大约需要4到6个小时。我必须为灵活性留出空间。需要考虑到可能出现的自行车故障和事故)”可知,作者为了确保骑行顺利,做了详细的计划,包括每天骑行的距离和预留的灵活时间,以及考虑可能的自行车故障和事故。D选项“Or I was just feeling extra tired on a certain day. (或者我只是在某一天感觉特别累) ”是一种假设的情况,与上文中提到的预留灵活时间相呼应,表示即使遇到意外情况(如某天特别累),也能灵活应对。故选D。
4.根据上文“Reaching Bagansiapiapi, I immediately asked about the history relating to the large Chinese community there. I learned that a Chinese family surnamed Tan did live there for years. In the 1940s, they moved to another part of Southeast Asia. The locals couldn’t remember the names so I wasn’t sure whether it was my grandfather’s family. (到达Bagansiapiapi后,我立即询问了与那里庞大的华人社区有关的历史。我了解到一个姓谭的中国家庭确实在那里住了很多年。在20世纪40年代,他们搬到了东南亚的另一个地方。当地人记不住他们的名字,所以我不确定那是不是我祖父的家人)”可知,作者到达祖父的出生地后,询问了与当地华人社区有关的历史,但不确定是否是祖父的家族。E选项“However, the possibility left me feeling excited and satisfied. (然而,这种可能性让我感到兴奋和满足)”表示尽管不确定,但这种可能性仍然让作者感到兴奋和满足。这符合作者的情感变化,也体现了作者对家族历史的关注和探索。故选E。
5.根据下文“Once, I got lost while cycling towards Lake Toba. Luckily, a family of three showed me the right directions. (有一次,我在骑车去鸟羽湖的路上迷路了。幸运的是,一个三口之家给我指了正确的方向)”可知,此处提出作者在骑行过程中迷路了,但幸运地得到了一个三口之家的帮助。C选项“My cycling journey was not without challenges. (我的骑行之旅并非没有挑战) ”引出下文作者在骑行过程中遇到的困难。故选C。
Passage 2
Do you love food? Whether you’re a foodie or someone who just likes eating, there is so much to choose from. We know that too much of the wrong kind of food can be bad for our health, but for some people having a food allergy means that eating certain things can actually be harmful. Such cases may seem uncommon. 1
An allergy is caused by the immune (免疫的) system fighting substances in the environment. 2 It means that people have to follow strict dietary restrictions, otherwise their lives may be put at risk. Allergy specialist Dr. Adam Fox says “if you look back over, say,30 or 40 years…… there are much more serious allergic problems around now than there were.” 3 Last year a teenager died after suffering an allergic reaction from eating a piece of bread containing peanuts. This led to a call for better food-labeling laws.
Research has found that this problem is particularly affecting children. 4 Dr. Alexandra Santos from King’s College London says “food allergy now affects about 7% of children in the UK and 9% of those in Australia, for example. Across Europe, 2% of adults have food allergies.”
So what might be the cause? Dr. Santos says, the increase in allergies is not simply the effect of society becoming more aware of them and better at diagnosing them. 5 She adds that possible factors are pollution, dietary changes and less exposure to bacteria, which change how our immune systems respond. She points out that it’s very common for migrants who move to another country to develop food allergies in their new location.
A.It seems to be more environmental.
B.A food allergy can affect you at any age.
C.Yet in fact, food allergies are affecting more and more of us.
D.Food allergies can result in some life-threatening reactions.
E.A lot of work is being done to try and find a cure, but that’s not easy.
F.More and more of them are having allergic reactions to certain food.
G.We often hear about people having allergies to dairy products or to nuts.
【答案】1.C 2.D 3.G 4.F 5.A
1.根据上文“Such cases may seem uncommon.(这种情况似乎并不常见。)”
2.下文“It means that people have to follow strict dietary restrictions, otherwise their lives may be put at risk.(这意味着人们必须遵循严格的饮食限制,否则他们的生命可能会受到威胁。)”
3.根据上文“there are much more serious allergic problems around now than there were.(现在比过去有更多的严重过敏问题。)”和下文“Last year a teenager died after suffering an allergic reaction from eating a piece of bread containing peanuts.(去年,一名青少年在吃了一块含有花生的面包后发生过敏反应而死亡。)”
4.根据上文“Research has found that this problem is particularly affecting children.(研究发现,这个问题特别影响到儿童。)”和下文“food allergy now affects about 7% of children in the UK and 9% of those in Australia, for example.(例如,在英国,食物过敏影响着约7%的儿童,在澳大利亚,这一比例为9%。)”
Santos says, the increase in allergies is not simply the effect of society becoming more aware of them and better at diagnosing them.(桑托斯博士说,过敏的增加不仅仅是因为社会对它们的认识提高和诊断能力的增强。)”和下文“She adds that possible factors are pollution, dietary changes and less exposure to bacteria, which change how our immune systems respond.(她补充说,可能的因素包括污染、饮食变化和较少接触细菌,这些都会改变我们的免疫系统的反应方式。)” 故选A。
Passage 3
If taking the train across Canada isn’t on your travel list, it totally should be! Here are some facts to help you get ready for the journey.
1 . It depends on your route and stops because you have to be sure that the schedules match your connecting train. If you are riding on The Canadian which runs between Toronto and Vancouver, the trip will be four straight days if you don’t get off.
If you choose the entire transcontinental train trip, you will pass through five time zones: Atlantic, Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific, from Halifax all the way to Vancouver. 2 . The adjustment is in fact comfortable because the rhythm of the train and the consistent sleep patterns help you maintain your internal clock.
The winter season brings fewer crowds and more affordable rates, making it an ideal time for a train journey. You may be thinking that Canada in winter is a frozen land, but you are overreacting. Temperatures are not as harsh as you might think, ranging from 30-35°F in the mountains to 38-55°F elsewhere. 3 .
One of the most rewarding aspects of train travel is the opportunity to meet a variety of people. Simply by sitting together and admiring the scenery, you will start to connect with or chat with others. 4 , each with his or her own stories and experiences.
So, if you are looking for a slow-paced way to explore Canada, consider taking the train. 5 ; it is a journey that offers memories that will last a lifetime.
A.Planning such a trip may seem tiring
B.Just remember to pack warm clothing
C.It is more than just a way of transportation
D.You’ll meet people from different parts of the world
E.The temperatures are actually unbearable for most tourists
F.The entire cross-Canada train journey will take at least four days
G.This might seem like a challenge, but adjusting is surprisingly easy
1.下文“It depends on your route and stops because you have to be sure that the schedules match your connecting train. If you are riding on The Canadian which runs between Toronto and Vancouver, the trip will be four straight days if you don’t get off.(这取决于你的路线和站点,因为你必须确保时间表与你要换乘的火车相匹配。如果你乘坐往返于多伦多和温哥华之间的 “加拿大人号” 列车,如果你不下车,旅程将持续整整四天)”主要在讲乘坐火车穿越加拿大的行程时间,因此这里需要一个句子来引出具体的行程时间。F选项“The entire cross-Canada train journey will take at least four days(整个穿越加拿大的火车旅程至少需要四天时间)”引出了关于行程时间的话题,与下文紧密衔接,所以F选项符合语境。故选F。
2.上文“If you choose the entire transcontinental train trip, you will pass through five time zones: Atlantic, Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific, from Halifax all the way to Vancouver.(如果你选择整个横贯大陆的火车旅行,你将经过五个时区:大西洋时区、东部时区、中部时区、山区时区和太平洋时区,从哈利法克斯一直到温哥华)”提到了会经过五个时区,下文“The adjustment is in fact comfortable because the rhythm of the train and the consistent sleep patterns help you maintain your internal clock.(这种调整实际上很舒适,因为火车的节奏和稳定的睡眠模式有助于你保持自己的生物钟)”则说调整起来很舒适。
3.上文“The winter season brings fewer crowds and more affordable rates, making it an ideal time for a train journey. You may be thinking that Canada in winter is a frozen land, but you are overreacting. Temperatures are not as harsh as you might think, ranging from 30-35°F in the mountains to 38-55°F elsewhere.(冬季人流量较少,价格也更实惠,是乘坐火车旅行的理想时间。你可能认为冬天的加拿大是一片冰冻的土地,但你反应过度了。温度并不像你想象的那么恶劣,山区的温度在 30-35 华氏度之间,其他地方在 38-55 华氏度之间)”在讲冬季乘坐火车旅行的好处以及冬天加拿大的温度情况。B选项“Just remember to pack warm clothing(只要记得带上保暖的衣服)”是对这部分内容的一个实际建议,既回应了关于温度的讨论,又给出了实用的旅行提示。故选B。
4.上文“One of the most rewarding aspects of train travel is the opportunity to meet a variety of people. Simply by sitting together and admiring the scenery, you will start to connect with or chat with others.(火车旅行最有意义的方面之一就是有机会结识各种各样的人。只要坐在一起欣赏风景,你就会开始与他人建立联系或聊天)”强调了在火车旅行中会遇到很多人,下文“each with his or her own stories and experiences.(每个人都有自己的故事和经历)”进一步描述了这些人的特点。D选项“You’ll meet people from different parts of the world(你会遇到来自世界不同地方的人)”承接上文会遇到很多人,又引出下文每个人都有不同的故事和经历,与前后文关于社交互动的内容紧密相连。故选D。
5.上文“So, if you are looking for a slow-paced way to explore Canada, consider taking the train.(所以,如果你正在寻找一种慢节奏的方式来探索加拿大,考虑乘坐火车)”提出乘坐火车探索加拿大的建议,下文“it is a journey that offers memories that will last a lifetime.(这是一段能带来终生难忘回忆的旅程)”进一步强调了火车旅行的意义。
Passage 4
It’s now been 10 years since I sold everything and left the United States to travel the world. Here are some of my best travel planning tips to help you have a great trip.
1 I don’t know how to answer when readers ask how many days they should spend traveling in a particular country or city. The truth is that I have no idea what you’ll enjoy or who you’ll meet. My advice is to pick a starting point, 1 or 2 must-do activities, and an ending point(or not). 2 Be open to changing your plans if you learn about something along the way!
Learn a few foreign words. There’s no need to be fluent in order to visit a foreign country. However, mastering a few phrases in the local language can improve your travel experience. 3 But remember that this is your problem, not theirs. Raising your voice doesn’t magically help Mexicans understand English. Try hand signals, images on your phone, or Google Translate!
Write down the address of your hotel. Sometimes, after a long flight playing games on your smartphone, your battery could end up dead. And if you didn’t write down where you’re staying, how will you tell the taxi driver? 4
Read a book about the country. Before you travel to a new country, I recommend reading a good book about it to learn more about its history and culture before you arrive. 5 Your travel experience will be different if you already know about your destination.
A.Pick a starting point.
B.Be flexible and don’t over plan.
C.Then just let the universe determine the rest.
D.You are sure to benefit from these simple images.
E.This could be as simple as a popular novel by a local author.
F.Not being able to communicate while traveling can be frustrating.
G.I also recommend noting down your room number after you check in.
1.根据下文“I don’t know how to answer when readers ask how many days they should spend traveling in a particular country or city.(当读者问我应该在某个特定的国家或城市旅行多少天时,我不知道该怎么回答。)”
2.根据上文“My advice is to pick a starting point, 1 or 2 must-do activities, and an ending point (or not).(我的建议是选择一个起点,1或2个必须做的活动,以及一个终点(或者没有)。)”和下文“Be open to changing your plans if you learn about something along the way.(如果你在路上了解到了一些新情况,要乐于改变你的计划。)”
和下文“But remember that this is your problem, not theirs.
4.根据上文“Sometimes, after a long flight playing games on your smartphone, your battery could end up dead. And if you didn’t write down where you’re staying, how will you tell the taxi driver.(有时候,在长途飞行中玩智能手机游戏后,你的手机可能会没电。如果你没有写下你住的地方,你怎么告诉出租车司机。)”可知,作者在此部分应是建议旅行者记下自己住的地方,以防手机没电时无法告诉出租车司机自己要去哪里。选项G“我还建议在入住后记下你的房间号”符合语境。故选G。
5.根据上文“Before you travel to a new country, I recommend reading a good book about it to learn more about its history and culture before you arrive.(在你去一个新的国家旅行之前,我建议你读一本关于它的好书,在你到达之前了解更多关于它的历史和文化。)”和下文“Your travel experience will be different if you already know about your destination.(如果你已经了解了你的目的地,你的旅行体验将会不同。)”
Passage 1
People often wonder why some entrepreneurs (企业家) have greater success than others. Is it habits, connections, luck, work rules or any other behavior? 1 Willpower is the ability to control yourself. It is a strong determination that allows you to do something difficult. It is a behavior we are born with more than one we learn; however, it is possible to not only learn it, but also strengthen it with constant exercise.
Willpower is just like a muscle. 2 People with a great amount of willpower have the discipline (自律) to develop positive, successful habits. Even with a large amount of talent, without the discipline and motivation to create positive habits, it can be difficult to achieve success.
3 It is important to create good habits and take the actions necessary to stick to those habits day in and day out for greater success. Almost half of our daily actions are part of our habits and not decisions, so once the correct habits are in place, you will automatically perform those tasks on a day-to-day basis.
The best way to create and stick to a habit is to have strong motivation. It’s easier to change your habits to lose weight if you have a health issue and you want to be around longer for your kids, or if your business is something you’re passionate about. 4
The art of self-control is one that most successful people have mastered. Self-control enables you to avoid behaviors that don’t contribute to your success and adopt those that do.
Because there is a delayed satisfaction associated with self-control, it can be easy to get off track. However, if you work on sticking to those small positive habits one day at a time, it becomes easier to stay strong and achieve that delayed reward. 1 Plan clear goals, and develop the habits necessary to achieve them. Recognize the self-control necessary to stick to those habits.
A.Willpower and habits go hand in hand.
B.I believe the key to success is willpower.
C.To keep it strong you need to constantly exercise it.
D.A united and motivated team can drive your business forward.
E.It is easy to lose control and give in to something that doesn’t follow your plan.
F.Once a reward is achieved, it is much easier to continue sticking to your habits.
G.Having a valuable outcome associated with a habit will help you stick to that habit.
【答案】1.B 2.C 3.A 4.G 5.F
1.根据上文“People often wonder why some entrepreneurs (企业家) have greater success than others. Is it habits, connections, luck, work rules or any other behavior?(人们常常想知道为什么有些企业家比其他人更成功。是习惯、关系、运气、工作规则还是其他行为?)”以及后文“Willpower is the ability to control yourself. It is a strong determination that allows you to do something difficult.(意志力是一种控制自己的能力。
3.根据本段内容“It is important to create good habits and take the actions necessary to stick to those habits day in and day out for greater success. Almost half of our daily actions are part of our habits and not decisions, so once the correct habits are in place, you will automatically perform those tasks on a day-to-day basis.(要想取得更大的成功,重要的是要养成良好的习惯,并采取必要的行动日复一日地坚持这些习惯。我们几乎一半的日常行为是我们习惯的一部分,而不是我们的决定,所以一旦有了正确的习惯,你就会自动地在日常的基础上执行这些任务)”可知,本段主要说明了习惯对于意志力的重要性,以及为了二者之间的关系。故A选项“意志力和习惯是相辅相成的”符合语境,故选A。
4.根据上文“The best way to create and stick to a habit is to have strong motivation. It’s easier to change your habits to lose weight if you have a health issue and you want to be around longer for your kids, or if your business is something you’re passionate about.(养成并坚持一种习惯的最好方法是有强烈的动机。如果你有健康问题,你想多陪孩子,或者你对自己的事业充满激情,那么改变你的习惯来减肥就更容易了)”可知,上文强调了动机在养成和坚持习惯中的重要性,故本句进一步解释了为什么强烈的动机有助于坚持习惯,即一个习惯如果有一个有价值的结果作为回报,那么人们就更有可能坚持下去,故G选项“有一个与习惯相关的有价值的结果会帮助你坚持这个习惯”符合语境,故选G。
5.根据上文“However, if you work on sticking to those small positive habits one day at a time, it becomes easier to stay strong and achieve that delayed reward.(然而,如果你每天都坚持这些积极的小习惯,保持坚强和获得延迟的奖励就会变得更容易)”可知,上文强调了坚持好习惯可以获得回报,本句承接上一句,进一步说明了获得回报后坚持习惯会变得更容易,故F选项“一旦获得了奖励,继续坚持你的习惯就容易多了”符合语境,故选F。
Passage 2
The 20-Minute Rule to Accomplish Any Task
Do you often struggle to begin tasks on schedule and find excuses to delay the start time? Do you choose to do something else instead of focusing on tasks that need immediate attention? 1 The basic idea is that if you have a task you don’t want to do, tell yourself you only need to do it for 20 minutes.
The 20-minute rule is very simple. Next time you dread doing something, set a timer for 20 minutes, and start working on whatever you’ve been putting off. When the timer goes off, reset it and take a 20-minute break to focus on a different task or do something else you’re more interested in. 2 After a few cycles of this, you’ll find you’ve built up strength and can keep working on the task you previously dreaded.
The 20-minute rule is designed to help you start developing new emotions in connection with a task. The thing is, the 20-minute rule is not actually meant to get the job done at all. 3
Often, once you set out, it becomes easier to continue, and you may find yourself willing to work beyond the initial 20 minutes. If you used the 20-minute rule to start studying for your test, after a few rotations (轮换) of the timer you would discover the task isn’t as painful as you thought. You may even start to enjoy it! 4 Try the 15-minute rule, the 10-minute rule, or the 5-minute rule. I’ve even used the 30-second rule. That’s right, 30 seconds.
Start small. Prove to yourself that you will not experience a high level of discomfort from doing the task you set out to do. Begin to rewrite the emotions you anticipate in relation to a certain task.
The reasons behind delay are primarily fear and the anticipation of pain. 1 Just set a timer, and get started.
A.It’s meant to help you get started.
B.But if the twenty-minute rule fails for you?
C.Whatever you fear, you don’t have to do it all at once.
D.Face your fears bravely and tackle the entire task in one go.
E.Consider the “20-minute rule” to motivate yourself to start.
F.Reset the timer when it goes off and return to your original task.
G.If the timer goes off and you’re still uninterested, switch tasks permanently.
【答案】1.E 2.F 3.A 4.B 5.C
1.根据上文的“Do you often struggle to begin tasks on schedule and find excuses to delay the start time? Do you choose to do something else instead of focusing on tasks that need immediate attention?(你是否经常难以按时开始任务,并找借口推迟开始时间?你是否会转而选择做其他事情,而不是专注于那些需要立即处理的任务?)”可知,本文使用两个问题引出要介绍的话题,结合下文的“The basic idea is that if you have a task you don’t want to do, tell yourself you only need to do it for 20 minutes.(基本的想法是,如果你有一个不想做的任务,告诉自己你只需要做20分钟。)”
2.根据上文的“The 20-minute rule is very simple.(“20分钟规则”很简单。)”可知,下文讲述的是“20分钟规则”的操作方法,结合空前的“When the timer goes off, reset it and take a 20-minute break to focus on a different task or do something else you’re more interested in.(当定时器响起时,重置它并休息20分钟,转而专注于另一个任务或者去做你更感兴趣的事情。)”以及下文的“After a few cycles of this, you’ll find you’ve built up strength and can keep working on the task you previously dreaded.(经过几个这样的循环后,你会发现自己的力量增强了,能够继续处理之前害怕的任务。)”可知,此空应是循环步骤中的最后一个环节,F选项“Reset the timer when it goes off and return to your original task.(当定时器响起时,重置它并返回到你的原始任务。)”
3.根据空格位于段尾可知,此处是对上文内容的进一步阐述,结合上文的“The 20-minute rule is designed to help you start developing new emotions in connection with a task. The thing is, the 20-minute rule is not actually meant to get the job done at all.(“20分钟规”旨在帮助你开始培养与任务相关的新情绪。实际上,这个规则的目的并不是真的要完成工作。)”可知,这项规则不是帮助完成工作,由此可推断,此空进一步讲述这项规则的真正目的是什么,A选项“It’s meant to help you get started.(它的目的是帮助你开始。)”可知,“20分钟规”则的主要目的是帮助你开始工作,而非完成整个任务,符合语境。故选A项。
4.根据上文的“If you used the 20-minute rule to start studying for your test, after a few rotations (轮换) of the timer you would discover the task isn’t as painful as you thought. You may even start to enjoy it!(如果你使用20分钟规则开始为考试复习,经过几次定时器的轮换后,你会发现这个任务并不像你想象的那么痛苦。你甚至可能开始享受它!)”可知,“20分钟规”起作用后,你会发现这个任务并不像你想象的那么痛苦,甚至会享受它,结合下文的“Try the 15-minute rule, the 10-minute rule, or the 5-minute rule. I’ve even used the 30-second rule. That’s right, 30 seconds.(尝试15分钟规则、10分钟规则或5分钟规则。我甚至使用过30秒规则。没错,就是30秒。)”可知,此处作者建议尝试其它的时间规则,由此可推断,此空应与空前内容为转折关系,从而引出下文,B选项“But if the twenty-minute rule fails for you?(但是如果“20分钟规”对你不起作用呢?)”与空前的内容为转折关系,且引出下文的其它时间规则,符合语境。故选B项。
5.根据上文的“The reasons behind delay are primarily fear and the anticipation of pain.(拖延背后的原因主要是恐惧和对痛苦的预期。)”以及下文的“Just set a timer, and get started.(只需设置一个定时器,然后开始行动。)”可知,克服拖延的原因主要是恐惧和对痛苦的预期,并建议设定一个定时器然后开始工作,C选项“Whatever you fear, you don’t have to do it all at once.(无论你害怕什么,你都不必一次性完成所有。)”
Passage 3
Athletes prove it’s never too late to uncover your fitness potential. Whether you have big Olympic dreams or just want to finish a 5 km run, here are science-backed tips on how to kick start and keep an exercise routine.
Pick an exercise you enjoy. People can stick with their works if they feel good. 1 . If you like being in nature, plan a day hike or take up surfing. If you enjoy teamwork, look into recreational sports leagues in your area.
Commit to about four weeks of exercise. This can help you build a new routine. People who were paid to exercise for 28 days were likely to continue exercising 10 months later. 2
Get a workout partner. You’ll be less likely to break from your training plan if a partner is counting on you to show up. In a study, 602 overweight employees from a company participated in a daily step challenge. Those on teams walked farther than those doing the challenge solo. 3
Compete against someone. Trying to beat someone can improve your athletic performance. If you can’t find someone to compete with, recreate friendly competition with fitness apps. 4 You can set a specific goal and time frame. Then invite others to join your competition.
5 If you haven’t worked out in a while and you’re not sure where to begin, focus on any kind of active movement. That includes doing housework, walking your dog or gardening. Basically, all movement counts and any movement is better than nothing.
A.Focus on doing housework.
B.The key to habits is repetition,
C.Change your definition of “exercise.”
D.So think about an exercise that delights you.
E.They didn’t want to let their teammates down.
F.They allow you to race against others around a virtual world.
G.Those competing against others did better in the step challenge.
1.根据空前“Pick an exercise you enjoy. People can stick with their works if they feel good.(选择一项你喜欢的运动。如果感觉良好,人们就会坚持锻炼。)”可知,前文提到如果感觉良好人们就能坚持锻炼。选项D“So think about an exercise that delights you.(所以想想让你开心的一项运动。)”
2.根据上文内容“Commit to about four weeks of exercise. This can help you build a new routine. People who were paid to exercise for 28 days were likely to continue exercising 10 months later.(坚持锻炼约四周。这有助于你养成新的日常锻炼习惯。那些获得报酬、连续锻炼28天的人,10个月后仍有可能继续坚持锻炼。)”可知,该段指出坚持锻炼约四周有助于建立新的日常习惯,还举例说明付费锻炼28天的人10个月后仍可能继续锻炼。这都在强调重复对养成习惯的重要性。选项B“The key to habits is repetition,(习惯的关键在于重复。)”
3.根据上文内容“In a study, 602 overweight employees from a company participated in a daily step challenge. Those on teams walked farther than those doing the challenge solo.(在一项研究中,来自一家公司的602名超重员工参加了每日步数挑战。团队中的成员比独自参加挑战的人走得更远。)”可知,上文提到有锻炼伙伴能让你更不容易打破训练计划,还举例公司超重员工参加每日步数挑战,团队成员比独自挑战的人走得更远。选项E“They didn’t want to let their teammates down.(他们不想让队友失望。)”
4.根据上文内容“If you can’t find someone to compete with, recreate friendly competition with fitness apps.(如果你找不到人竞争,那就借助健身应用程序重现友好竞争。它们让你能在虚拟世界里与其他人竞赛。)”可知,前文提到如果找不到人竞争,可以借助健身应用程序重现友好竞争。此空应进一步说明健身应用程序在竞争方面的作用。选项F“They allow you to race against others around a virtual world.(它们让你能在虚拟世界里与其他人竞赛。)”
根据下文“If you haven’t worked out in a while and you’re not sure where to begin, focus on any kind of active movement. That includes doing housework, walking your dog or gardening. Basically, all movement counts and any movement is better than nothing.(如果你已经有一段时间没有锻炼,且不确定从哪里开始,那么专注于任何形式的积极活动。这包括做家务、遛狗或园艺。基本上,所有的活动都算数,任何活动都比不活动要好。)”可知,本段指出如果很久没锻炼且不知从何开始,那么像做家务、遛狗或园艺等任何积极的活动都可以,强调所有活动都算运动。选项C“Change your definition of “exercise.”(改变你对“锻炼”的定义。)”
Passage 4
Habits allow us to make actions we perform frequently automatic, for example, cooking familiar foods and driving home from work. Consistently practicing good behavior helps to develop positive and lasting habits. 1 And both building good habits and breaking bad habits can be challenging, so learning some effective strategies is necessary.
2 The reward must be delivered consistently and immediately after the desired behavior. For example, you could reward yourself for cleaning the apartment by playing your favorite video game. Remember to do the pleasurable activity each time you perform the healthy behavior. 3
Have you noticed changes in your shopping behavior after a local shopping center rearranges its layout? This is because changing environmental signals affects habitual behavior. 4 These include going to college, starting a new job, getting married, retiring, and so on. It’s important to recognize these opportunities: they are chances to reshape our habits. For example, not living next to a fast-food restaurant can be an opportunity to form healthier eating habits.
To break bad habits, we may consider increasing the difficulty of performing unhealthy behaviors. 5 This is what I told a friend complaining about her little boy’s unhealthy eating habits. I suggested the mother make it more time-consuming for the boy to access fatty and sweet snacks while making fresh fruits easily accessible to the child.
A.This regularity helps strengthen the habit.
B.This will help children realize their bad habits.
C.It often occurs as a result of life course changes.
D.But unhealthy behaviors can also become habitual.
E.It is important for the society to build a reward system.
F.At the same time, we should make it easier to perform the good habit.
G.To turn a healthy behavior into a habit, you can think of an effective reward.
【答案】1.D 2.G 3.A 4.C 5.F
1.根据前文“Consistently practicing good behavior helps to develop positive and lasting habits.(坚持练习良好的行为有助于培养积极和持久的习惯)”以及后文“And both building good habits and breaking bad habits can be challenging, so learning some effective strategies is necessary.(养成好习惯和改掉坏习惯都是有挑战性的,所以学习一些有效的策略是必要的)”可知,前文提到好习惯,后文讲述养成好习惯和改掉坏习惯都是有挑战性的,所以空处应是提到坏习惯,D项“But unhealthy behaviors can also become habitual.(但不健康的行为也会成为习惯)”承接上文,和上文构成转折关系,并引出下文。故选D项。
2.设空位于句首,是本段的中心句,根据后文“The reward must be delivered consistently and immediately after the desired behavior. For example, you could reward yourself for cleaning the apartment by playing your favorite video game.(奖励必须始终如一地在期望的行为之后立即发放。例如,你可以通过玩你最喜欢的电子游戏来奖励自己打扫了公寓)”可知,本段主要讲述通过奖励来养成好的习惯,所以G项“To turn a healthy behavior into a habit, you can think of an effective reward.(要把健康的行为变成习惯,你可以想一个有效的奖励)”符合本段主题,为本段中心句。故选G项。
3.设空位于段尾,是对前文的总结,根据前文“For example, you could reward yourself for cleaning the apartment by playing your favorite video game. Remember to do the pleasurable activity each time you perform the healthy behavior.(例如,你可以通过玩你最喜欢的电子游戏来奖励自己打扫了公寓。记住,每次你做健康的行为时,都要做愉快的活动)”可知,A项“This regularity helps strengthen the habit.(这种规律有助于加强习惯)”是对前文的总结,其中regularity指的就是每次你做健康的行为时,都要做愉快的活动。故选A项。
4.根据前文“Have you noticed changes in your shopping behavior after a local shopping center rearranges its layout? This is because changing environmental signals affects habitual behavior.(你是否注意到当地购物中心重新布局后,你的购物行为发生了变化?这是因为不断变化的环境信号会影响习惯性行为)”以及后文“These include going to college, starting a new job, getting married, retiring, and so on. It’s important to recognize these opportunities: they are chances to reshape our habits. For example, not living next to a fast-food restaurant can be an opportunity to form healthier eating habits.(这些包括上大学、开始一份新工作、结婚、退休等等。认识到这些机会很重要:它们是重塑我们习惯的机会。例如,不住在快餐店旁边可能是形成更健康饮食习惯的机会)”可知,本段讲述了因为生活中的改变而形成新的习惯,所以C项“It often occurs as a result of life course changes.(它通常是由于生命历程的改变而发生的)”是对前文的进一步解释,而后文是对本句的具体举例。故选C项。
5.根据前文“To break bad habits, we may consider increasing the difficulty of performing unhealthy behaviors.(为了改掉坏习惯,我们可以考虑增加执行不健康行为的难度)”以及后文“This is what I told a friend complaining about her little boy’s unhealthy eating habits. I suggested the mother make it more time-consuming for the boy to access fatty and sweet snacks while making fresh fruits easily accessible to the child.(这是我对一个抱怨她儿子不健康饮食习惯的朋友说的话。我建议这位母亲让男孩吃高脂肪和甜的零食更费时,同时让孩子更容易吃到新鲜水果)”可知,后文的例子,作者建议这位母亲增加执行不健康行为的难度,同时让好习惯变得更容易,所以F项“At the same time, we should make it easier to perform the good habit.(同时,我们应该让养成好习惯变得更容易)”承接上文,符合下文举例。故选F项。

Passage 3
How would you feel if moving to a new town meant losing track of your friends? What if the only way of getting news from far away friends was writing letters that took ages to be delivered? 1 Thanks to progress in technology, how we make friends and communicate with them has changed significantly.
Nowadays, we can move around the world and still stay in touch with the people that we want to remain friends with. 2 All you need is a wi-fi connection. The digital age also helps us find people who share our interests, such as playing an unusual instrument. Whatever our hobbies, the Internet can connect people who share the same hobbies, ever if they live on the other side of the world.
3 It depends. If people always exchange true personal information online, these friendships can be real and meaningful. Yet we need to keep in mind that what we see on social media is often not the whole truth. On social media sites, people tend to post only positive updates that make them appear happy and friendly. 4 Remember the saying: on the Internet, nobody knows you’re a dog. A young person could be old; a woman could be a man; we could even be sharing our information with bad guys.
This doesn’t mean that we should throw the baby out with the bath water, though. Technology has changed the way we make friends, but the meaning of friendship and our longing for friends remain the same. 5
A.The Internet helps us make more friends.
B.But smiling photos can hide real problems.
C.This was how things worked not very long ago.
D.However, does the Internet really bring people closer?
E.However, are the “friends” you make online really your friends?
F.No one would choose to live without friends, even if he had all other good things.
G.Social media lets us see what our friends are busy with and maintains our friendships.
【答案】1.C 2.G 3.E 4.B 5.F

Passage 1
Louise Gleeson’s kids call each other out when someone’s acting like a “quallum”, say “ozee-chicken” on a bad hair day, and get excited when their grandmother is on her way with “nunch.” 1 “They’re part of a secret language that no one outside our circle can understand, ” laughs Gleeson, a mother of four in Toronto.
The secret words shared only among the members of a household are called familect by linguists Though it might seem silly, building a familect means a lot.
1 In particular, it’s the repetition of familect in different situations that strengthens this tie between family members. Every time a family nickname (昵称) is used, it reminds them of its history and the fact that they all share it.
Familect’s true power lies in its ability to draw people back together. 2 . And for adult siblings (兄弟姐妹) who haven’t seen each other for a long time, using familect can instantly transport them back to their childhood memories.
Familect also introduces the creative possibilities of language to kids. Mallinson, a professor at the University of Maryland, finds her nine-year-old daughter has recently transformed family nicknames into nimo (mother), ditto (father), zito (brother), and tito (herself). 3 “Kids are naturally excited about language and enjoy doing funny things with it,” she says.
Even though familects often develop naturally, parents can actively encourage this shared language in the family. “ 4 ” says Mallinson. “You don’t have to carry around photographs or souvenirs for family closeness. You have these words that recall all these family memories. ”
A.The phrase is unique to the family.
B.Familect helps maintain the culture of the family.
C.Familect serves as a tool to connect family members.
D.Practising these skills is great for a lifelong love of language.
E.These words aren’t from a dialect spoken in some remote land.
F.Language is something you can carry with you wherever you go.
G.After an argument, familects can help make up and rebuild family connections.

Enjoy Being Different
Take a look at teenagers around, dressed in baggy-pants (宽松的裤子), drinking soft drinks such as coke, and reading Japanese cartoons. Whether you are in Beijing, Wuhan or Hong Kong, you’ll get the same impression. 1
It sounds convenient that people around the world speak the same language, dress in the same style, eat the same food and play the same games. If the world was like this, you wouldn’t feel any stranger in any corner of world. But just imagine living in such a strange world. 2
Different kinds of food that people can taste, the colorful and fashionable clothes that we dress in and different languages we speak are all part of the different cultures that our ancestors (祖先) left us. 3 And we all enjoy different cultures in our daily lives. When you travel to other places, you want to see different things. When you talk to foreigners you expect to listen to interesting stories. These differences in culture are what make life colorful.
4 Many different cultures are gradually disappearing. In most big cities around the world, people wear the same clothes. Fast food stores are everywhere. Hollywood movies are kicking traditional performing arts out of our lives. The colors of our life are disappearing.
There is a joke that even the panda and zebra want to live a colorful life. So let’s take action to protect our colorful culture before it becomes as simple as black and white. 5 Learning some folk songs, trying on traditional clothing and even eating local food instead of going to KFC can help. And we’re sure you’ll enjoy it.
A.It’s not difficult.
B.It would be so interesting.
C.How dull and colorless it would be!
D.What’s more, this makes up the parts of our lives.
E.These differences represent their creativity and talent.
F.But should we copy others or should we keep our differences?
G.But the whole world is getting into a small village as globalization takes effect.
【答案】1.F 2.C 3.E 4.G 5.A

Passage 1
In higher education, 21st-century librarians are seeing their roles changing. Universities are also taking a new look at library buildings. However, one thing is clear: 1
Libraries meet students’ new needs, digitally
To support modern research, libraries will need to offer students access to the digital versions of scholarly research. Ringling College of Art and Design set out to create a library that would better provide its students with the services they actually need. 1
Flexible workspaces
1 Most commonly, universities are redesigning libraries to make them suitable for collaboration — meaning open, social spaces where small and large groups can gather and share materials. For example, Norwich University in Vermont decided to create more high-tech collaboration spaces in its library by designing 11 group study rooms that have movable furniture.
Modern libraries need digitally informed librarians
In today’s university culture, librarians should make sure students have a solid understanding of the digital resources they are using. 1 These and other changes are also influencing the way that universities teach the next generation of library professionals. At the University of Michigan, a new library science program will create education models that help future librarians complete the difficult tasks of supporting researchers.
Digital tools give libraries staying power
1 However, university libraries are here to stay. By using digital tools and creating flexible spaces, libraries will continue to be relevant to colleges. In fact, digital tools have made it even easier for libraries to serve students.
A.University libraries are here to stay.
B.Librarians are going to lose their occupations.
C.Technology contributes greatly to the survival of libraries.
D.One must-have characteristic, for example, was a 24-hour computer lab.
E.For example, librarians can help students get reliable information better.
F.Some people predicted that the next generation would witness the death of printed books.
G.Changing study habits also give libraries an opportunity to redesign their physical spaces.
【答案】1.A 2.D 3.G 4.E 5.F

Passage 2
Houses of the Future
What will houses be like in thirty years’ time? No one really knows, but architects are trying to predict. 1
Future houses will have to be flexible. In thirty years’ time, even more of us will be working from home. So we will have to be able to use areas of the houses for work for part of the day and for living for the rest. Families grow and change with children arriving, growing up and leaving home. 2 Nothing will be as fixed as it is now. The house will always be changing to meet changing needs.
Everyone agrees that in thirty years’ time we will be living in “intelligent” houses. We will be able to talk to our kitchen machines and discuss with them what to do like this. “We’ll be having a party this weekend. What food shall we cook?” 3 We will be able to leave most of the cooking to the machines, just tasting things from time to time to check.
4 You will be able to change the color of the wall easily. You won’t have to paint them — you’ll be able to tell the wall to change the color! And if you don’t like the color the next day, you’ll be able to have a new one. 5
A.What will our home be like then?
B.The house of the future will be personalized.
C.The house will be equipped with a central nervous system.
D.The kid might take their bedrooms with them as they leave.
E.The house of the future will have to grow and change with the family.

Baby animals are cute, and when we see one that seems to be in trouble, it’s natural that we want to help. 1 It’s important to recognise when an animal truly needs help and to understand how to assist safely. Then how should we properly interact with young animals in the wild?
Do not approach a baby animal immediately you spot it, otherwise it may run away, making it hard for the parent to find it. 2 Baby animals are often left alone in tall grass or bushes while their parents forage (觅食). The parents are likely nearby and will return. So, wait and observe first.
Generally, people should give wildlife space. Many parks require visitors to stay at least 25 yards away from animals, and much further if it’s a predator (捕食者) like a lion or a bear. 3
When an animal is visibly injured, the best approach is to call the local forestry department or a wildlife organisation to get advice about next steps. 4 You may not be able to do it properly. If the animal isn’t obviously injured, you should wait and see if a parent returns.
5 If you see a turtle crossing the road and it’s safe to stop your car, it’s fine to help the animal get to its destination. Also, if you accidentally knock a bird’s nest out of a tree or observe a baby bird fall, you typically can gently return the bird to its nest.
A.Try not to handle the animal by yourself.
B.However, animals are often much stronger than we think.
C.Animal parents may abandon a baby due to food shortages.
D.Instead, your first reaction should be to watch from a distance.
E.If you’re close enough to take a photo with it, you’re too close.
F.Yet there are situations where humans can lend a helping hand.
G.But well-meaning humans can sometimes do more harm than good.
【答案】1.G 2.D 3.E 4.A 5.F
1.根据上文“Baby animals are cute, and when we see one that seems to be in trouble, it’s natural that we want to help.(小动物很可爱,当我们看到似乎有麻烦的小动物时,我们自然想要帮忙。)” 而后文“It’s important to recognise when an animal truly needs help and to understand how to assist safely.(识别动物何时真正需要帮助以及了解如何安全地提供帮助是很重要的)”则指出要正确地帮助动物。选项G“But well-meaning humans can sometimes do more harm than good.(但是善意的人类有时可能会好心办坏事。)”
2.根据上文“Do not approach a baby animal immediately you spot it, otherwise it may run away, making it hard for the parent to find it.(不要一看到幼小动物就立刻靠近它,否则它可能会跑掉,让它的父母很难找到它)”可知,上文指出不要立刻靠近幼小动物。选项D“Instead, your first reaction should be to watch from a distance.(相反,你的第一反应应该是从远处观察。)”
3.根据上文“Many parks require visitors to stay at least 25 yards away from animals, and much further if it’s a predator(捕食者)like a lion or a bear.(许多公园要求游客与动物保持至少 25 码的距离,如果是像狮子或熊这样的捕食者,则要更远)”可知,上文强调要与动物保持距离。选项E“If you’re close enough to take a photo with it, you’re too close.(如果你近到可以和它合影,那你就离得太近了。)”
4.根据上文“When an animal is visibly injured, the best approach is to call the local forestry department or a wildlife organisation to get advice about next steps.(当动物明显受伤时,最好的办法是联系当地的林业部门或野生动物组织,以获取下一步的建议。)” 而下文“You may not be able to do it properly.(你可能无法正确地处理。)” A“Try not to handle the animal by yourself.”(尽量不要自己处理这只动物)”承上启下,符合语境。故选A。
5.根据下文“If you see a turtle crossing the road and it’s safe to stop your car, it’s fine to help the animal get to its destination. Also, if you accidentally knock a bird’s nest out of a tree or observe a baby bird fall, you typically can gently return the bird to its nest.(如果你看到一只乌龟过马路,并且停车是安全的,帮助这只动物到达目的地是可以的。此外,如果你不小心把鸟巢从树上碰掉了,或者看到一只幼鸟掉下来,你通常可以轻轻地把鸟放回巢里。)”可知,下文举例说明了在某些情况下人们可以帮助动物。选项F“Yet there are situations where humans can lend a helping hand.(然而,在某些情况下人类可以伸出援手)”引出后文,说明存在可以帮助动物的情况,符合语境。

Recycle Delivery Boxes
1 . The packaging that comes with them can add up to trash. What can you do? Recycle delivery boxes into storage. Large boxes are especially handy for storing leftover holiday supplies, such as decorations and winter outfits, for the next year. Make sure to store them in a dry place, as water can damage items such as fireworks or string lights.

F.The only thing you won’t be able to do is to move the house somewhere else!
G.And the machine will tell us what food we will have to buy and how to cook it.
