第一节应用文写作(满分15分)
Dear Sir/Madam,
I'm Li Hua,an exchange student who will go to your school to study for a month.I am
writing to inquire about the accommodation your school provides.
I prefer a dorm room with a bathroom on campus.A room on the ground floor would be
better. And I don't mind sharing it with other students as it will provide me with a good
chance to make new friends and learn more about the local culture. What kind of
accommodation could you offer if these requirements should not be satisfied?I would
appreciate it very much if you could provide me with the relevant information.Looking
forward to your early reply.
Yours,
Li Hua
第二节读后续写(满分25分)
But no more helicopters came and it was getting dark again.Immediately, the absolute
darkness ruled the forest.Jane, exhausted and scared, lay down near a stone, missing her
family at a distance. All the fantastic memory crowded in and she couldn't help crying.
"Hadn't I quarreled with Tom,walked away and climbed to the high place,I wouldn't be
trapped in this awful place and confronted with the danger of dying."She regretted with
endless anxiety and then became asleep with shining tears in her eyes.
It was daybreak when Jane woke up.Weak as she was,she struggled to her feet,
continuing searching for assistance. To her great joy,a helicopter was flying overhead again
and again.Eager and excited, she flagged her yellow blouse and spared no effort to yell so as
to attract others'attention.Fortunately, she was eventually noticed and brought into the
helicopter. There, she saw her husband,a man staring at her, wearing an expression of relief.
As tightly as possible, she hugged him and was too excited to say anything.Besides, they
agreed never to quarrel again, determining to live the life to the fullest.

In 1880,fourteen-year-old Matthew Henson loved to hear sailors tell tales of their exciting
lives at sea.The travel, the adventure, the danger, and the steady pay were all attracting young
Henson. One day,he found a job as a cabin boy on a beautiful ship called the Katie Hinds. For the
next five years,Henson sailed around the world. With the help of the ship's captain and other
members of the crew,Henson learned mathematics, navigation, history, geography and many other
高一英语(三)第3页(共8页)
subjects.By the time he left the Katie Hinds in 1885,Henson was well educated and had become an
excellent seaman.
Henson took a job in a hat shop in Washington,D.C.One day in 1887,a man came in to buy a
hat.The man,Robert Peary, asked the owner if he knew anyone with experience at sea.Peary would
soon travel to South America for the U.S.government.He needed experienced men to accompany
him.The shop owner introduced Peary to Henson.
Using his map-reading and sailing skills,Henson proved himself to be a worthy and smart
seaman.Peary soon made Henson his assistant(),and they became close friends. One day
Peary told Henson about his real dream:to be the first man to stand on"the top of the world"at the
North Pole.He asked Henson to help him make his dream come true.Over the next five years, the
two explorers made two trips together to the Arctic. However, they were not able to reach the pole
either time. The cold, wind, and ice were worse than either of them had ever imagined.
In 1908,Peary and Henson were ready to make their final attempt at reaching the North Pole.
Both men were over forty years old.The years of hardship in the arctic cold had made them suffer a
lot. This would be their last chance. With four Inuit guides, they made a mad rush straight
across the ice toward the pole.Peary's feet were injured and he had to be pulled on a dogsled. In
April 1909,Henson's instruments showed they were standing at the North Pole.Together Henson
and Peary planted the American flag in the snow.
In later years,Robert Peary and Henson were greatly honored for their achievements.Today,
the two friends and fellow explorers lie in heroes'graves not far apart in the Arlington National
Cemetery.

Scientists have found that children who most prefer high levels of sweet tastes also most prefer
high levels of salt taste and that,in general, children prefer sweeter and saltier tastes than adults do.
These preferences (relate not only to food intake but also to measures of growth and can have
important potential effects for efforts to change children's diets. Many illnesses of modern society
are related to poor food choices.Because children take in far more sugar and salt than
recommended, which contributes to poor health, understanding the biology behind children's
preferences for these tastes is the first step necessary for reducing their intake.
"Our research shows that the liking of salty and sweet tastes reflects in part the biology of the
child."said the study leader Julie Womac.Biology makes us like and take in calorie-rich sweet
foods and sodium-rich salty foods, and this is especially true for children."Growing children's
heightened preferences for sweet and salty tastes make them more easily harmed by the modern diet,
which differs from the diet of our past, when salt and sugars were once rare and expensive
commodities(商品).”
In the study,Womac tested 108 children between 5 and 10 years old,and their mothers for salt
and sweet taste preferences.Analyses of all tests showed that not only sweet and salty preferences
have a close relationship with children, and higher overall than those in adults, but also children's
taste preferences are related to measures of growth and development:children who were tall for
their age preferred sweeter solutions, and children with higher amounts of body fat preferred saltier
soups.Analyses also indicated that higher sweet liking related to a fast bone growth, but that result
needs confirmation in a larger group of children.

In 1880,fourteen-year-old Matthew Henson loved to hear sailors tell tales of their exciting

Henson took a job in a hat shop in Washington,D.C.One day in 1887,a man came in to buy a

soon travel to South America for the U.S.government.He needed experienced men to accompany
him.The shop owner introduced Peary to Henson.

One weekend in July,Jane and her husband,Tom,had driven three hours to camp overnight by
a lake in the forest.Unfortunately,on the way an unpleasant subject came up and they started to
quarrel.By the time they reached the lake,Jane was so angry that she said to Tom,"I'm going to
find a better spot for us to camp"and walked away.
With no path to follow,Jane just walked on for quite a long time. After she had climbed to a
high place, she turned around, hoping to see the lake.To her surprise, she saw nothing but forest and,
far beyond,a snow-capped mountain top.She suddenly realized that she was lost.
Tom!”she cried.“Help!”
No reply. If only she had not left her mobile phone in that bag with Tom.Jane kept moving, but
the farther she walked, the more confused she became. As night was beginning to fall,Jane was so
tired that she had to stop for the night.Lying awake in the dark,Jane wanted very much to be with
Tom and her family. She wanted to hold him and tell him how much she loved him.
Jane rose at the break of day, hungry and thirsty. She could hear water trickling (
somewhere at a distance.Quickly she followed the sound to a stream. To her great joy,she also saw
some berry bushes. She drank and ate a few berries.Never in her life had she tasted anything better.
Feeling stronger now,Jane began to walk along the stream and hope it would lead her to the lake.
As she picked her way carefully along the stream,Jane heard a helicopter(直升飞机).Is that
for me?Unfortunately, the trees made it impossible for people to see her from above.A few minutes
later, another helicopter flew overhead.Jane took off her yellow blouse, thinking that she should go
to an open area and flag them if they came back again.
