When I was a little boy,I always dreamed of becoming a doctor. My mother was an emergency room nurse, so I would often go to the hospital with her and watch her care for patients. When I was in high school and began taking biology, I realized how much I loved science and the idea of one day working with children.
One experience that stands out to me was volunteering at a children's hospital during my undergraduate years. I had the opportunity to work with children who had cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. These children had been through so much at such a young age, yet they were so brave and strong. I knew then that I wanted to help children like them.
During my undergraduate years, I pursued my goal by majoring in biology and chemistry. These courses laid a solid groundwork in the

sciences, which is necessary in the medical profession. In addition, Idevoted time to shadowing pediatricians(儿科医生) and volunteering at clinics to gain a full understanding of the field. These experiences exposed me to the hands-on nature of pediatrics(儿科学) and the opportunity to assist families during challenging times.
As I advanced in my studies, I developed a growing interest in the research aspect of medicine. I participated in multiple research projects, such as a study on childhood asthma(哮喘) and its correlation with academic performance. This involvement gave me insight into the significance of research in advancing our understanding of pediatric illnesses and their treatments.
One of the aspects of pediatrics that I find most rewarding is the opportunity to build relationships with patients and their families.Children are not just patients; they are individuals with unique needs and personalities. As a pediatrician, I am responsible for understanding those needs and providing care tailored to each child.
24. What can we infer from the passage about the writer's future career direction?
A. He is likely to work as a doctor who treats children.
B. He will choose to be a biology teacher in a high school.
C. He will definitely become an emergency room nurse like his mother.
D. He will give up his dream of being a doctor and focus on science research.
25. What is implied in the author's undergraduate years?
A. He studied rare illnesses in kids.
B. He published an academic paper.
C. He combined learning and practice.
D. He helped cure a child with asthma.
26. Why does the author find his job meaningful?
A. He valued care between people.

C. He could hear kids' laughter.
D. He longed to try new things.

Some universities in China and around the world are making changes to the ways in which they deliver liberal arts (文科) subjects, with some subjects being removed. These changes have caused a lot of discussion in China with some questioning the value of these subjects and others saying their removal is leading to a global reduction in the liberal arts.
Universities have the right and the responsibility to ensure their courses best equip their students to gain more opportunities in the job market. Education resources tend to be concentrated on science and engineering subjects that lead to better jobs, and this tendency is becoming increasingly clear, driven by market demand.
Liberal arts subjects aim to improve life and society. In this sense, the more developed a society is, the more liberal arts are needed. Human development requires liberal arts that keep up with the times. Today, what we need is the kind of humanities and social sciences that can adapt to modern society, which is advancing in science and technology. Liberal arts must welcome the Internet, big data, AI, cloud computing, and so on.The change of liberal arts subjects in universities is unavoidable.
In modern university education, the humanities are increasingly serving as general education. Future-centered humanities education should not, and cannot, promise a clear path from specialization to a specific career as natural sciences might. Instead, it should focus on offering a liberal arts education that equips future scientists, technicians, and professionals with humanistic qualities. This education doesn't provide specific job skills, but aims to cultivate (培养) citizens with critical thinking, cross-cultural awareness, and the ability to construct meaning independently. Liberal arts should have the ability to provide effective“public products” for society. They are not material or technological products, but thoughts, discourses(话语), and theories.

28. Why are some liberal arts subjects removed?
A. Because universities don't think liberal arts are useful at all.
B. Because modern society no longer needs any kind of liberal arts.
C. Because liberal arts can't help students learn about AI or big data.
D. Because universities want to focus on subjects that help students get better jobs.
29. How can liberal arts subjects keep up with times?
A. By providing hands- on chances.
B. By focusing on practical topics.
C. By using popular academic terms.
D. By opening doors to technologies.
30. What do liberal arts aim to cultivate?
A. Sense of cooperation. B. Self- reflection ability.
C. Global perspectives. D. Self- learning ability.
31. What is the suitable title for the text?
A. Are liberal arts becoming less important?
B. Humanities: basis for sciences
C. Will liberal arts make changes?
D. Liberal arts: searching for truth

Many of us are not happy with our physical appearance. We want to change ourselves, to be more like a perfect image shown on magazine covers, TVs, movies... Indeed, there is a multibillion- dollar industry built around people's desire to look"better".
I think we all have an idea that our society's preference for body image is not completely healthy, and it isn't. There is plenty of research showing that poor body image is connected with depression (抑郁) and eating disorders, especially among women.
Research also has shown that exercise can improve a person's own body image, regardless of any actual change in their body. One study showed that just 30 minutes of physical activity had a clear positive effect on women's body image. But why is this?
A small study in the magazine Psychology of Sport and Exercise
学科网(北京)股份有限公司
tested different possibilities. They chose 75 college-age women who were dissatisfied with their physical appearance, as measured by several previous questionnaires (问卷调查). The questionnaires measured how these women felt about their appearance, weight, fat level, fitness, confidence in their ability to exercise, energy levels and stress. They were also asked how much they enjoyed exercise. Then, half of the women exercised actively for 30 minutes on an exercise bike, while the other half sat in a room and read magazines. Then they all repeated the questionnaires, right away and again 20 minutes later.
The women who exercised felt thinner and stronger immediately, and still felt that way 20 minutes after exercising. The authors suggest that these positive changes may last longer than 20 minutes, and thus may help to explain why people who exercise regularly have better self-images regardless of any actual change in their appearance. They call for further research examining different types of exercise and increasing the post-exercise(运动后的) study time.
Though this is a small study, it does support previous findings. I think it's safe to say that exercise is clearly connected with improvements in body image, and there is little disadvantage. I already recommend regular exercise to my patients who suffer from depression, and for those who also suffer from poor self-image, this recommendation could be even more important.
32. What does the underlined phrase“a multibillion- dollar industry”probably refer to?
A. The fashion industry.
B. The health and fitness industry.
C. The beauty and body care industry.
D. The TV and movie making industry.
33. What can we know from the passage?
A. A good body image can prevent depression.
B. Exercise has a mental effect on body image.
C. Young women were satisfied with their physical image.
D. Women are more likely to have a good body image than men.
