More than 20 months of hard time has affected me. Many friendships have faded away because of the life choices, leaving me sad. And then, of course, I was spending too much time on social media, which never lowers the temperature.
People around me had noticed these emotional changes. I even found myself shouting rudely at the grocery store cashier. I began to see I was turning into a joyless, angry person I didn’t want to be.
My lack of pleasure really hit me when my family was on a road trip vacation over the summer. As I looked out of my window at the beautiful scenery I realized that, as hard as I tried, I felt nothing.
After searching the Internet, I found by chance a blog post that recommended keeping a “pleasure diary”. I was attracted. I was willing to try almost anything to kick me out of my bad-tempered fear. I even happened to have an extra notebook hanging around.
So, for several months now, I’ve kept track daily of all things large and small that have brought me delight, satisfaction and enjoyment. I’ve recorded feeling experiences (the smell and taste of my morning coffee), emotional increase (recovering an old friendship), and little delights, such as the surprise I felt when an insect flew across my path on a morning walk.
In fact, I’ve discovered the endless source that lies in some easy activities such as listening to music, enjoying a great novel or hugging my children.
“At any given time, there is good and not-so-good in our lives,” author Elizabeth told me. She said keeping a pleasure diary can be helpful “for people with anxiety or depression because it forces a broader focus from what is wrong to what is right or enjoyable”.
4. What can we learn about the author from paragraph 1?
A. Friends always left her sad. B. She never got tired of social media.
C. Life choices made her busy all day. D. Social media failed to make her happy.
5. Why does the author mention her family’s road trip?
A. To prove it was a boring trip. B. To stress her lack of pleasure.
C. To suggest pleasure can’t be bought. D. To indicate her family affected her emotion.
6. Who made the author keep a diary?
A. Her friend. B. Her family. C. A blogger. D. A teacher.
7. What’s the author’s purpose of writing this text?
A. To highlight the importance of friends.
B. To show a common phenomenon of lacking pleasure.
C. To suggest an effective way to deal with emotional matters.
D. To uncover the hidden reasons for being angry and depressed.
C
People worldwide are living longer. Today, for the first time in history, most people can expect to live into their sixties and beyond. By 2050, the world’s population aged 60 years and older is expected to total 2 billion, up from 900 million in 2015. Today, 125 million people are aged 80 years or older. By 2050, there will be almost this many (120 million) living in China alone, and 434 million people in this age group worldwide.
The pace of population ageing around the world is also increasing dramatically. France had almost 150 years to adapt to a change from 10% to 20% in the proportion of the population that was older than 60 years. However, places such as Brazil, China and India will have slightly more than 20 years to make the same adaptation.
A longer life brings with it opportunities, not only for older people and their families, but also for societies as a whole. Additional years provide the chance to undertake new activities such as further education, a new career or a long ignored passion. Older people also contribute in many ways to their families and communities. Yet the extent of these opportunities and contributions depends heavily on one factor: health.
There is, however, little evidence to suggest that older people today are experiencing their later years in better health than their parents. While rates of severe disability have declined in highincome countries over the past 30 years, there has been no significant change in mild or moderate disability over the same period.
If people can experience these extra years of life in good health and if they live in a supportive environment, their ability to do the things they value will be of little difference from that of a younger person. If these added years are affected by declines physically and mentally, the results for older people and for society are more negative.
8. What does the author want to tell in the first paragraph?
A. The whole world is faced with the problem of ageing.
B. Some countries witness people live longer than before.
C. China has the highest rate of ageing population at present.
D. By 2050, over half of the world’s population is ageing.
9 What is the most important for the ageing society?
A. The attitude of the older to life.
B. The contributions the older make.
C. The health of the older people.
D. The activities the older take part in.
10. What is the author’s attitude to the ageing world?
A. Concerned. B. Objective.
C. Negative. D. Astonished.
11. What’s the author’s statement about ageing based on?
A. His own opinion. B. Some data.
C. Causes and effects. D. Comparisons.
D
Yang zhou district now has its first A+ Intelligent Greenhouse Factory. This high-tech farm is a big step forward in modern agriculture. It costs 61 million yuan (about $8.39million) and covers an area of 17,000 square meters.
In this greenhouse, leafy greens can grow in just 30 days, which is much faster than traditional farming. This method also produces eight times more vegetables. Thousands of sensors monitor the temperature and humidity (湿度) all the time. Smart systems automatically adjust the airflow and nutrient levels to ensure the best growing conditions.3-D farming technology makes better use of space, increasing land efficiency. Electric rail harvesting platforms lighten the workload by 60 percent, making the work much easier.
The greenhouse also has a fish and plant zone with a natural nutrient system. What makes the zone special is that processed fish waste is transformed directly into plant nutrients, ensuring sustainable planting. To meet the greenhouse’ s daily electricity needs, the State Grid Haimen Supply Company equipped a 3.2-kilometer power line and a supply system. A specialized team conducts daily inspections and weekly maintenance on 58power units to ensure undisturbed operation.
Soon, the factory will open a research and study base. It will offer immersive experiences such as VR-assisted plant cell observation in the ecological education zone. Additionally, its lab will produce virus-free strawberry seeds under a clean environment. These creations not only boost production but also promote sustainable and efficient farming practices.
12. How does the greenhouse improve the efficiency?
A. By using traditional methods. B. By shortening the growth time.
C. By observing temperature. D. By reducing the workload.
13. What is the feature of the fish and plant zone?
A. It uses fish waste as plant nutrients. B. It requires a large number of nutrients.
C. It relies on traditional farming skills. D. It focuses on growing strawberries.
14. What will the base offer when it opens?
A. An about 3.2-kilometer power line. B. Daily inspections and maintenance.
C. VR-assisted plant cell observation. D. Electric rail harvesting platforms.
15. What is the main idea of the passage?
A. Producing virus-free strawberry seeds.
B. Providing immersive VR experiences.
C. Monitoring temperature and humidity.
D. Advancing modern high-tech farming.

“Yes it is going to be celebrated on June 19 this year. Yesterday my friend and I were talking about it.” Mano replied.
“Do you have any idea how we should celebrate this day and make it memorable for Dad?” Ali asked.
“Hmm... I was thinking about it too and have some ideas.” Mano answered excitedly. “What are you kids talking about?” their mum asked, entering their room.
“Mum, we were wondering about how to celebrate Father’s Day.” Mano said.
“Oh, I am surprised you kids remembered! Well, I am thinking of cooking some favorite dishes for your father. You both should think of ways to decorate the house beautifully.”Mum said.
“That would be great!”said Mano and Ali together. Both of them got up smiling, thinking of hundreds of ways to celebrate Father’s Day. Mum went to the kitchen, and Mano and Ali started doing their homework. But soon Ali noticed Mano deep in thought so he asked what the matter was. “Ali, I was thinking that our parents do everything for us and in return they want nothing. Isn’t it bad that we never think about them and are always concerned about our needs?” Mano replied. “Sometimes we are so busy with our lives that we don’t pay proper attention to our parents. We should listen to whatever they say properly and answer them. We must also study hard to get good grades.” Ali nodded.
The next day, all three of them, Mano, Ali and their mum, got busy preparing their surprise celebration for Father’s Day.
根据第一段中“Many friendships have faded away because of the life choices, leaving me sad. And then, of course, I was spending too much time on social media, which never lowers the temperature. (许多友谊因为生活选择而渐渐淡去,这让我很伤心。当然,我还在社交媒体上花费了太多时间,而这从来都没能让我的情绪有所缓和。)”可知,友谊的消逝让作者难过,社交媒体也没能让作者开心起来。故选D。
【5题详解】
推理判断题。根据第三段中“As I looked out of my window at the beautiful scenery I realized that, as hard as I tried, I felt nothing. (当我望着窗外美丽的风景时,我意识到,无论我怎么努力,我都毫无感觉。)”可知,即在欣赏美丽风景时,自己却毫无感觉,这是为了强调自己缺乏快乐这种情绪状态,所以提到家庭公路旅行的目的是突出自己缺乏快乐。故选B。
【6题详解】
细节理解题。根据第四段中“After searching the Internet, I found by chance a blog post that recommended keeping a “pleasure diary”. I was attracted. (在上网搜索之后,我偶然发现了一篇博客文章,它推荐写“快乐日记”。)” 可知,是作者在网上偶然看到的一篇博客文章推荐写“快乐日记”,所以是一位博主促使作者开始写日记的,而不是朋友、家人或者老师。故选C。
【7题详解】
推理判断题。根据第六段“In fact, I’ve discovered the endless source that lies in some easy activities such as listening to music, enjoying a great novel or hugging my children. (事实上,我发现一些简单的活动中蕴含着无尽的快乐源泉,比如听音乐、欣赏一部精彩的小说或者拥抱我的孩子们。)”以及最后一段““At any given time, there is good and not-so-good in our lives,” author Elizabeth told me. She said keeping a pleasure diary can be helpful “for people with anxiety or depression because it forces a broader focus from what is wrong to what is right or enjoyable”. (“在任何特定时刻,我们的生活中都有好的一面和不那么好的一面,”作家伊丽莎白告诉我。她说写快乐日记对 “患有焦虑症或抑郁症的人会有帮助,因为它能促使人们把注意力从不好的事情上转移到正确的或令人愉悦的事情上”。)”可知,作者通过写“快乐日记”来记录生活中的快乐点滴从而改善情绪的过程,所以作者写这篇文章的目的是建议一种处理情绪问题的有效方法。故选C。

9. What is the most important for the ageing society?
A. The attitude of the older to life.
B. The contributions the older make.
C. The health of the older people.
D The activities the older take part in.
10. What is the author’s attitude to the ageing world?
A. Concerned. B. Objective.
C. Negative. D. Astonished.
11. What’s the author’s statement about ageing based on?
A. His own opinion. B. Some data.
C. Causes and effects. D. Comparisons.
A 9. C 10. B 11. B

A Father’s Day Surprise
“Mano, do you know when Father’s Day is celebrated?” Ali asked his sister.
“Yes, it is going to be celebrated on June 19 this year.
Mano drew a family picture with her crayons, Ali bought balloons and candles and began writing a poem which he planned to sing that day. In short, a lot of things were being planned and prepared.

One possible version:
Finally, when Father’s day came, both Ali and Mano came home from school and started decorating the house. Ali quickly cleaned the living room and continued with the decoration, putting up the colorful balloons and presenting the birthday cake. At the same time, Mano took out the family picture. They were about to practice singing the poem when the delicious smell came from the kitchen. Surely it was Mom that prepared the big meal. French toast and chicken porridge, both of which were father’s favorite dishes, were ready. Eventually, everything was settled. Ali and Mano stood beside the door, waiting for their father eagerly. Then Dad came in.
Ali and Mano cried out together, “Happy Father’s Day!” Hearing the words, so glad was Dad that his face lit up. “We have a surprise for you!” added Ali, pointing at the decorations. When he saw the dinner, his eyes widened and twinkled with excitement. He couldn’t help tasting a bit of chick soup, explaining that it was the best dish he had ever had. Mom smiled heartily and exchanged a gentle glance with Ali and Mano. What a beautiful and sweet surprise! The room was filled with happiness.
