Usually, we use bricks (砖) to make houses on Earth, but what about building things on the moon? Well, you use “moon bricks”, of course!
Scientists at a university in China have come up with a cool idea: making “moon bricks” to build a home on the moon!
To make these moon bricks, the scientists used simulated lunar soil (模拟月壤). These bricks are really strong—three times stronger than the bricks we use to build houses on Earth. Also, they are specially designed, which makes it possible to simply put these bricks together, just like Lego.
A scientist named Zhou Cheng from the university said: “We have tried out five different kinds of simulated lunar soil and found the best way to make the bricks strong.”
The moon bricks need to be well tested before being used because the moon has a very bad environment. Moonquakes often happen and there’s lots of space radiation (辐射). The temperature can get super hot during the day, up to 180℃, and super cold at night, down to -190℃.
The moon bricks will go to China’s space station on a spaceship called Tianzhou 8. There, scientists will see how well the bricks work in space.
The first moon brick is expected to come back to Earth by the end of 2025. China has big plans to build a place for scientists to study the moon between 2028 and 2035. This would be a huge step for space exploration (探索) and could help us learn more about the moon and our space.

Robert Adolf fell in love with Chinese culture when, as a child, he watched the 1998 Disney cartoon, Mulan. He never thought that he would one day work in China.

Have you ever heard a voice inside your head that talks to you and helps you make decisions and remember things? This is your inner voice and it’s like having a private conversation in your mind. It’s something most people have. Your inner voice can be helpful. But sometimes it’s unkind and says you can’t do something. Psychologist (心理学家) Ethan Kross calls this “chatter” and says it is connected to how you feel about yourself.
When your inner voice is kind, you feel good about yourself. If you’re feeling worried about joining a new club or taking a math test, you can use it to encourage yourself. That can help you work out problems more easily. However, if you’re stressed, a different voice appears. It might say you won’t make friends or tell you you’re hopeless at math. Listening to chatter like this can make you unhappy and stop you believing in yourself. The good news is you can change the conversation.
Start by realizing what your inner voice is saying. “You probably don’t realize how often you say negative things in your head,” Kross explains, “like I can’t do it.” Second, listen out for when it’s loud—maybe when you’re nervous or trying something new. Then, make a clear difference between you and your chatter. If you’re feeling stressed about something, talk to yourself as if you’re another person. Last, use your name and say things like, “Jeff, this is hard but you can do it. It’s not only calming,” Kross says, “but it helps you stand back and see something as a challenge to overcome, instead of feeling like you want to give up.”
12. How does the writer lead into the topic in Paragraph 1?
A. By asking a question. B. By telling a story.
C. By giving an example. D. By showing a survey.
13. Which of the following is an example of chatter?
A. “What if I can’t pass the science exam again?”
B. “Mom, can you help me with this math problem?”
C. “Jeff, I know this is a little hard but you can make it.”
D. “I’m a brave girl and I’m sure I can make new friends.”
14. What does the underlined word “negative” probably mean?
A. Kind. B. Important. C. Unpleasant. D. Old.
15. How many pieces of advice are mentioned from the last paragraph?
A. Two. B. Three. C. Four. D. Five.

Have you ever heard a voice inside your head that talks to you and helps you make decisions and remember things? This is your inner voice and it’s like having a private conversation in your mind It’s something most people have.

B. “Mom, can you help me with this math problem?”
C. “Jeff, I know this is a little hard but you can make it.”
D. “I’m a brave girl and I’m sure I can make new friends.”
14. What does the underlined word “negative” probably mean?
A. Kind. B. Important. C. Unpleasant. D. Old.
