Many years ago, I read a story about robots. That was the first time I learned about them. Later, I saw robots in Western movies. They looked like metal people, moved slowly, and talked in strange voices. Back then, most Chinese people still rode bikes and used old tools. Robots felt like something from a dream.
But now, robots are a part of real life. One day, I walked into a bank and was greeted by a robot. It said, “Please go to Window 3.” At a park, a robot followed me and asked, “Would you like some ice cream?” It was fun! I also called a company with a question, and a robot with a soft voice answered. I wondered, “Is this the same robot from the park?”
Once, I ordered food in a hotel. Soon, my phone beeped. A robot had delivered my lunch to the door! It was short and friendly, telling me, “Please take your food while it’s warm.”
In factories, millions of robots work every day, helping to make cars, phones, and even hospital beds. My wife bought a smart bed for her mom, and the box read, “Welded (焊接) by robots.”
Robots are amazing. Some help people at home, while others work in factories. They aren’t perfect yet, and some say robots don’t understand people well. But I believe they will get better. In the future, robots may even take care of the elderly. They are truly one of our era’s most transformative (变革性的) inventions, and their story is just beginning.

A. He thinks robots are perfect now.
B. He is excited about robots’ future.
C. He worries robots will replace humans.

The traditional Chinese calendar divides the year into 24 solar terms. White Dew (白露), the 15th solar term of the year, begins on Sept 7 and ends on Sept 21 this year. White Dew means the real beginning of cool autumn.
From the start of White Dew, the dew gets heavier day by day as the season goes by. Although sunshine during the day makes it still hot, after sunset, the temperature drops rapidly. At night, water vapor (水蒸气) in the air turns into white dew on flowers, grass and trees when it meets cold temperatures. Here are some customs you should know about White Dew.
Eating sweet potatoes
Many Chinese believe that the best food during White Dew is sweet potatoes. In the old days, farmers had the custom of eating sweet potatoes on the first day of White Dew. It is considered a healthy vegetable believed to help fight cancer. According to Chinese medicine, sweet potatoes can also help prolong (延长) life and reduce the risk of disease.
Playing with swallow carts (玩燕车子)
In Tancheng county, East China’s Shandong Province, children play with swallow carts, a wooden cart in the shape of a swallow during White Dew. Pushing the swallow carts while running can help the children keep away from the cold and improve their physical health.
Offering sacrifices to Da Yu (祭祀大禹)
White Dew is a time for people in the Taihu Lake area of East China to offer sacrifices to Da Yu, a hero who tamed floods (治水) by guiding water into river and river into sea. His flood control methods are still used today by Chinese.
The customs of White Dew reflect (反映) our ancestors’ deep connection with nature and their pursuit (追求) of a healthy life.
