专题02 阅读理解 记叙文 主题01 人与社会 Passage 1 (24-25 高二上・四川泸州三校联盟) Cai Lei, former vice-president of JD Group, reveals how amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis (诊断) set him on the path to find a cure. Born to a farmer’s family in 1978, Cai has been deeply influenced by his father’s idea that “one has to fight for himself”. Since primary school, he has been getting up before 5 am to run and study English. At 29, Cai became chief tax manager in Vanke Co. In 2011, he joined JD Group, where he led his team to develop the first electronic invoice (发票) in China. Wherever he worked, he always tried his best to create new value. Diagnosed with ALS in 2019, he would have only two to five years to live. ALS is usually caused by the gradual death of motor neurons (神经元), which makes normally easy movements like drinking water, eating, going to the bathroom, and speaking impossible. Finally, patients will completely rely on machines and others’ help to survive. So far, only two medicines are available to treat ALS, but they can at most extend patients’ life for several months without improving their living quality. To develop effective drugs is the only way to save ALS patients. However, the intense effort required, which is unprofitable for so rare an illness, makes it a mission almost impossible. It usually takes 10-15 years to complete the research cycle for a new drug and the cost is $1‒3 billion. Take Alzheimer’s disease for example. Between 2000 and 2017, investment in new drugs for this more common disease was over $600 billion, and 99.6% of the research on more than 300 drugs failed. Cai decided to take matters into his own hands. He started his own medical technology company, built his own research team, and volunteered to try more than 30 new medicines which all failed. However, he has decided that even if all efforts prove fruitless, he will continue. To shoot the last bullet, he has decided to donate his brain and spinal cord for scientific research. He will not die for nothing. 1.What kind of person is Cai Lei? A.Extremely gifted and ambitious. B.Hard-working and warm-hearted. C.Quite responsible and dependable. D.Highly motivated and strong-willed. 2.What might happen to people diagnosed with ALS? A.Losing the ability to think and speak normally. B.Maintaining a normal life by taking medicines. C.Dying within months of a confirmed diagnosis. D.Needing external assistance to survive in the end. 3.Why is Alzheimer’s disease mentioned in paragraph 4? A.To talk about the severity of Alzheimer’s disease. B.To prove Alzheimer’s disease to be a common disease. C.To explain the difficulty of finding a cure for ALS. D.To ask for more investment in the research on ALS. 4.What can be a suitable title for the text? A.Joint efforts to fight ALS B.A man who never gives in C.ALS, a rare deadly disease D.Suffering of a man with ALS Passage 2 (24-25 高二上・四川绵阳三台中学・期末) As a housewife, I had Kransky, our dog, for almost two years. One day when I was calling my mum, Kransky was sniffing a mole (痣) on my right leg with his wet nose over and over. I kept laughing and told mum about it. After hearing my explanation, her tone changed. “There’s been research on pets being able to discover illness,” she replied. “Please, book in a skin check.” But then I just care little about it and didn’t do anything. When she followed up a couple of times though, I made an appointment with my doctor. On seeing the mole on my leg, the doctor insisted it be removed immediately. I was surprised by his seriousness and had the mole removed on the spot. A few days later, the doctor’s office told me that I had a cancerous melanoma (黑色素瘤) and gave me details of a surgeon who would remove it. I made the arrangements and quickly hung up. Tears flowed as anger filled my body. “You’ve left it too late,” I spoke angrily to myself. My surgery was set for eight weeks’ time, and Kransky was by my side through it all. After the surgery, a doctor advised me to have regular skin checks every three months for years. Thankfully, this meant no chemotherapy (化疗) or radiation. And I often think if Kransky hadn’t found it out, my situation would have been so much worse. Now, I’m sharing my story to remind others to get skin checks regularly. Not everyone has an angel like Kransky to point out when something’s wrong. 5.What did the mum want her daughter to do? A.To see a doctor. B.To take a skin care. C.To abandon the dog. D.To check into a hospital. 6.What can we learn about the author in Paragraph 2? A.She refused the doctor’s advice. B.She met a wrong surgeon. C.She felt rather regretful. C.A research paper. D.A lecture notice. Passage 3 (23-24 高二上・四川泸州合江马街中学・1 月期末) Today we were looking after our two nieces. They started screaming in the room where they were playing while my husband and I cooked lunch. We quickly ran to see what happened and there was a small scorpion (蝎子) that somehow got into the house. My husband picked up the scorpion before it had a chance to get away. As he was catching the scorpion, the elder niece Alice said that it was good that he was there because “girls can’t deal with that thing”. My husband asked her who told her that. Alice just shrugged (耸肩)and said,“Everyone knows girls are afraid of bugs (虫子).” So my husband called her over and told her, “You never have to be afraid of anything because you’re a girl. You’re just as good as boys. When you saw this scorpion, you called me and your aunt here. You recognized there was something that could hurt you. So you got help. I’m proud of you for letting adults know about something that was a danger to you. You’re very smart.” He held the scorpion’s tail, adding, “As you grow up, people are always going to try to tell you what you can and can’t do, but you can do anything if you put your effort into it. There’re women that work with bugs for their jobs and study them.” She got so excited at the thought of woman being able to do things a man can do. At this point her little sister Lisa came towards them. So my husband sat there and explained the different parts of the scorpion, completely firing their imagination. Alice asked if she could hold it. Then my husband put it on her hands. She was so proud of herself that she talked about it until she went to sleep. 9.Why did the author’s nieces scream? Passage 4 (23-24 高二上・四川泸州泸县四中・1 月期末) At the beginning of Grade Two, I joined the cross-country running team in our school. When I came to the first practice, I was filled with optimism. But as the distance we ran in each practice gradually increased from three to four, to six miles, I realized with surprise that no matter how hard I tried, I wasn’t able to run as fast as others. In fact, I was one of the slowest on the team. What was the point of putting myself through so much pain? After the first few weeks, I wanted to quit. Then we had our first cross-country meet. When we started the race, I felt the great pressure of expectations sink onto my shoulders. And after a while I stopped running and struggled to walk up the hill. But then I heard my coaches shouting my name from the top of the hill. I felt confused and embarrassed; why were they cheering for me? I was running terribly! As I tried my best to finish the race, I realized that my coaches didn’t care how fast I ran. Neither did my teammates. During the rest of the season, they were always on the sidelines of every race, cheering for me just as loudly as they’d cheered for the front runner. From then on, I began to put my effort into supporting my teammates instead of focusing on my own performance. In that way, I celebrated my teammates’ victories as if they were my own; I felt their pain and exhaustion as if they were my own. Cross-country running made me realize I don’t need to be the best to be successful in life. It taught me to value my relationships with people more than my relationship with my ego. It taught me to cheer for others even if I don’t know their names. 13.Why did the author want to give up after the first few weeks? A.He had much pain in his knees. B.He didn’t perform well in long-distance running. C.He couldn’t get along well with others D.He showed no interest in running. 14.Which of the following can best describe the coaches? A.He lost himself in victories B.He put more effort into his study C.He received more support from his coaches D.He started caring about his teammates 16.. What did the author realize from his experience? A.The importance of team spirit B.The value of competition C.The secret of winning a race D.The benefits of doing sports Passage 5 (24-25 高二上・四川泸州泸县五中・1 月期末) Sadaf’s childhood was happy. She enjoyed going to school and meeting her friends. But one day, she returned home running a high temperature. “We thought it was regular flu. But we were told that I would not be able to walk ever again now,” she recalls. Sadaf was just 10 years old then. After the family was turned down by doctors in Kashmir, they went to Mumbai, where an operation was performed to treat her legs. But eventually, Sadaf had to rely on a wheelchair to move around. By this time, she had to discontinue her education. Things worsened when her father, her “only source of support”, passed away. “Everyone except my father doubted my capabilities. But he always encouraged me to dream big. I missed him.” “There were days when I would end up crying all day, sitting alone in my room. I was getting into depression,” she says. “By now, I’ve realized that I have to either end my life or struggle to prove myself. I chose the latter. I wanted to prove to the world that people like me can also achieve something. I had just lost my ability to walk, not my ability to use my brain,” she adds. That is when Sadaf decided to step up for herself. In 2015, she opened a shop but had to shut it a couple of years later as the work affected her eyesight. She says, “But I wanted to try my hands at everything. So I decided to play basketball as well. I have also been awarded multiple times by the Jammu and Kashmir Basketball Association.” Recently, Sadaf tried selling unique spices of the Kashmir valley. “Today, I have established my own business without anyone’s emotional or financial support. People would question me what I could achieve sitting in a wheelchair, when their educated and able-bodied children sat idly (闲散地). Now the very same people give my example to others,” she says. Sadaf believes that people with disabilities should never doubt themselves. “If you hear others say something not so positive, you may end up depressed. Instead of living within the confines (限制) of a room, try to prove yourself,” she advises. 17.What did Sadaf lose after her father’s death? A.Walking ability. B.Financial support. D.Do not put all your eggs in one basket. Passage 6 (23-24 高二上・四川宜宾叙州一中・1 月期末) In the digital age, opportunities are arising for everyone. However, only those putting plans into action can stay ahead. Alexandr Wang is one such example. Los Alamos National Laboratory was where Alexandr spent his childhood. Both his parents were physicists there. Alexandr, from a young age, had a sharp mind. As a kid, he was regarded as a math wizard (奇才) and competed in national math and computer competitions. Finishing high school, Alexandr entered MIT where machine learning and AI amazed him. He saw the potential (潜力) of AI, and was excited about how it could change the world. But it wasn’t making a real impact. His ambition to set up a company in that field was seeded then. At 17, he got the role of tech lead at Quora and dropped out of MIT. “I told my parents it was just going to be a thing I did for the summer. Obviously, it wasn’t,” Alexandr said. Surely, his parents were disappointed. They all knew he made that change filled with unexpected risks. But Alexandr said, “If you aren’t willing to take a risk now, then when?” Alexandr met Lucy Guo at Quora, with whom Alexandr founded Scale AI, which turned out to be a considerable success. In fact, at that time, there were various opportunities in the tech world. It was hard to decide which road they should go down. Then he and his team decided to take a different approach—instead of following diverse paths, they agreed to focus on one. They went with “imagery, computer vision and other kinds of sensor data”. And that is what made the company’s profits rise quickly. Scale AI has a net worth of about $7.3 billion at present, with Alexandr being the world’s youngest self-made billionaire. When asked lessons he’d like to share with founders, Alexandr stated there are a number of things. “The top one is always doing things that go with your values and how you want to build a company at the beginning. Mack and her sixteen-year-old daughter Aalaina joined the United Way of Southeast Louisiana and other community members to help develop an urban garden and refresh a local playground in the Desire Area. Mack quickly realized that her old neck of the woods, which was once full of life, did not look the same as it did when she rode bikes with her friends to the local candy store. It was important for her to not only show her college-bound daughter where she grew up, but she also wanted her daughter to experience what it felt like to give back, especially to her own community. “Volunteering with my daughter allows us to bond (联系), but I also want her to take these opportunities to invest (投资) her time when she can, meet new people, learn new skills and gain volunteer hours for her college applications, ”said Mack. The mother and daughter worked hand-in-hand with other volunteers to build a picnic table for locals to have lunch or rest and a stage for local artists to perform during community festivities. “The weekend was the perfect opportunity to volunteer and follow Dr. King — and others who have made sacrifices to bring equality and diversity to our communities. Passage 2 (23-24 高二上・四川泸州泸县一中・1 月期末) Opening the pages of Liuba Draws Beijing takes you on a fascinating visual journey through the heart of China’s busy capital city. Within its lively watercolors, traditional hutong, the grand Summer Palace, and the contemporary charm of Beijing’s Sanlitun and 798Art District all come alive through the artistic lens of Liuba Vladimirova, more famously known as Liuba Draws. Vladimirova’s journey from the icy Siberian city of Irkutsk to the vital Beijing started during her college years, when she commenced with an academic exchange program connecting her Russian university with Liaoning University in Shenyang, in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province. It was during this transformative period that she first set foot in Beijing. Since then, her affection for the city has been undeniable. Vladimirova’s path as an artist was far from linear (直线的). Since childhood Vladimirova has developed a love for drawing and painting. However, she pursued a different academic and professional route, studying Chinese and international trade in college and later working in trade relations between Russia and China, none of which was directly connected to the world of art. Yet, Vladimirova’s inner artist remained alive. In 2015, Vladimirova began crafting a series of illustrations centered around Beijing, properly named “The Beijing Calendar”. What attracts Vladimirova most is Beijing’s historic hutong. These narrow alleyways, rich in history and culture, serve as a wellspring (源泉) of inspiration for her artistry. Vladimirova’s ability to catch these hidden small differences likely comes from her unique perspective as an “outsider”— someone who didn’t grow up in Beijing. This fresh perspective allowed her to arrive in the city with fresh eyes and an eager heart, ready to embrace a new culture. 5.What do the underlined words “commenced with” mean in paragraph 2? A.Improved. B.Began. C.Resisted. D.Assessed. 6.What do we know about Vladimirova from paragraph 3? A.She gave up her dream. B.She won many art prizes several years ago. C.She was hardworking over her childhood. D.She delayed her artistic career. 7.Why does the author mention hutong? A.To praise Beijing’s architecture. B.To show the inspiration of Vladimirova’s art making. C.To state the main contents of an art book. D.To advise tourists to visit Beijing. 8.Which statement best summarizes Vladimirova’s success? A.Curiosity works wonders. B.Hard work pays off in time. C.The world is diverse and lively. D.Painting has no national boundaries. 主题03 人与自然 Passage 1 (23-24 高二上・四川宜宾叙州二中・1 月期末) Since I was born and brought up in a rural town, I have a great interest in nature. Using the chance of studying abroad in my second year at college, I decided to go to Canada just because I wanted to see the beautiful phenomena there. So after I finished the study, I went to Yellowknife in the Northwest. I clearly remember the sixth night in Yellowknife. Suddenly my host mother came to my room around 8 p. m. and told me to change clothes and go outside quickly carrying her camera. The northern lights were flickering (闪烁)in the sky! I was amazed and just stood there with my mouth open. I forgot to take pictures of the mysterious lights. Since that night, whenever it was sunny, I went outside at night and looked at the sky. It was so cold that my hands and feet were numb with cold. Actually, the time of my being able to be out was limited. I had to bring her camera back to the house in one hour at the most, for the camera was going to be broken because of the cold temperature. As I took pictures of the northern lights, I came to find a characteristic movement of the lights. They first appear in the north part of the sky and then they gradually come down to the south. After that, suddenly, they come in the middle of the north and south only for a while, which is the time when the best northern lights can be seen. Since it is only a few seconds for the northern lights to come down to the middle of the sky, it is very hard to get good pictures. The stronger the sun acts, the better and stronger northern lights flicker in the sky. That’s because they occur from the collision(碰撞)between atmospheric gases and solar wind. Much more solar wind comes to the earth when the sun is active, leading to the best northern lights. 1.Why did the author forget to take pictures? A.It was freezing cold outside. B.He was shocked by the wonderful sights. C.The lights were flickering in the sky. D.He lost all his feeling in his hands and feet. 2.What can we infer from the passage? A.The northern lights came out every night. B.The author took lots of pictures with his camera. C.The author could stay as long as he liked outdoors. D.Cameras will be damaged if exposed too long to coldness. 3.When is the best time to see the northern lights? A.They appear in the north part of the sky. B.They rise in the east and set in the west. C.They are between the north and south. D.They come down to the south part of the sky. 4.Why is it hard for the author to take good pictures? A.The lights stay in the middle for a very short time. B.The lights of the sun affect the northern lights. C.The lights are caused by the collisions of gases. D.The colours of the lights are determined by the height. Passage 2 (23-24 高二上・四川宜宾叙州二中・1 月期末) The cat Bubby showed up on the doorstep of Wiseman’s father, Abbott, who was putting out food for a different stray cat (流浪猫). Wiseman recalls that one day her father found a little three-legged cat in the kitchen eating the other cat’s food. Dad was kind of really surprised by this animal. It melted his heart to see this little cat with three legs looking after himself. Since then, her father and Bubby formed an unbreakable bond. They helped each other: Bubby got food and frequent visits to the house, while Abbott got a companion through a time of change in his life. After Abbott died in 2017, Bubby’s visits to her family home stopped. The family couldn’t locate Bubby for almost two years until they saw his furry face in an online post. According to volunteer McLeod, Bubby was brought to the shelter after a community effort to find the three-legged cat. McLeod remembers when she met Bubby for the first time, he was laying face down in his cage, exhausted. McLeod featured the cat in an online post, asking anyone if they knew of the animal’s history. Wiseman leapt at the opportunity to reunite with Bubby. Once Bubby was recovered enough to leave the shelter, the two decided McLeod would adopt Bubby and give him his forever home. In a twist of fate, Wiseman revealed McLeod had actually met Abbott and Bubby previously, but had forgotten the encounter. “It’s like it came full circle. It was a very sad thing that turned into a beautiful thing.” Wiseman said. Wiseman still visits Bubby whenever she can, often helping with the cat’s special food and treats. She is thrilled that Bubby was able to find his forever home, and knows her father would feel the same. 5.How did Abbott feel when he first found the three-legged cat? A.Caring. B.Interested. C.Touched. D.Upset. 6.How did Wiseman relocate the cat? A.She found the cat accidentally when it was posted online. B.She reached the cat through hard work of the community. C.She was told the cat was brought to a shelter by a volunteer. D.She turned to a website helping lost animals find their owners. 7.When was Bubby given his permanent home? A.After Bubby made a full recovery. B.Two years before Abbott died. C.When Bubby was found by McLeod. D.The moment McLeod met Wiseman. 8.What does the underlined word “it” refer to in the last paragraph? A.Wiseman’s frequent visits to the cat. B.The cat’s final settlement in McLeod’s house. C.The meeting and adoption of the cat and McLeod. D.McLeod’s experience of meeting Abbot and the cat. Passage 3 (24-25 高二下・四川眉山眉山中学・6 月期末) In 2014, Xu Yitang, a Beijing native who had been studying Peking Opera since childhood, went with friends for a birthday celebration to Beijing Zoo. Little did he know that a chance encounter at the aquarium there would excite a lifelong passion. As Xu Yitang stared at corals bathed in tank’s light, a sense of wonder crowded into his mind. Lost in the beauty and mystery of the creatures, he spent the entire afternoon in front of it. After that, he began to frequent the local market to learn about coral farming from merchants who sell ornamental plants, fish and corals. He also searched for information on relevant forums online. Before long, he had set up a small fish tank at home and started cultivating a coral. Nowadays, Xu Yitang who has moved to the tropical island of South China’s Hainan province, works for a Sanya-based tropical biological laboratory belonging to the Chinese Academy of Sciences. Each day, he spends several hours diving deep under the waves to observe and document the growth and development of the creatures that captured his heart all those years ago. Nicknamed “coral man”, he is actively engaged on such social media platforms as Sina Weibo, where he regularly shares visually beautiful photos and entertaining videos of corals. He aims to encourage individuals to take action in protecting coral reefs and the oceans as a whole from the destructive impact of climate change and human activities. Unfortunately, with the strengthening of the greenhouse effect, rising sea temperatures have led to coral bleaching (白化) and decay. A coral reef’s beautiful colors come from the symbiotic algae (共生藻类) zooxanthellae that provide more than 90 percent of the energy through photosynthesis (光合作用). Coral bleaching occurs when coral expels the algae and dies due to the lack of nutrients. In the laboratory, he would film educational videos to raise awareness and knowledge about corals, so that people can learn how to protect them effectively. 9.What changed Xu Yitang’s career choice? A.Frequenting the local market. B.Setting up a small fish tank at home. C.Having an encounter at the aquarium. D.Observing coral growth and development. 10.What can we infer from paragraph 2 ? A.Xu is a diver in the lab. B.Xu is a coral conservationist. C.Xu spends few hours on his work every day. D.Xu shares his videos for corals through social media platforms. 11.What caused coral bleaching? A.Rising sea temperatures. B.Lots of nutrients in the water. C.Coral farming practices. D.Lack of sunlight in deep waters. 12.How does he feel about his job now ? A.Critical. B.Indifferent. C.Objective. D.Enthusiastic. 主题01 人与社会 Passage 1 (24-25 高二上・四川宜宾三中・期末) When you think of a typical American, who do you picture? A pretty blond white American like Taylor Swift or a handsome black American like basketball star Michael Jordan? In fact, there was a time when the average American looked like neither of these people. Back in the year 1500, the average American was a brown-skinned hunter-gatherer who probably rode a horse and wore clothing made from animal skins. Today, the ancestors of these people are broadly referred to as “Native Americans”, “American Indians” or simply “Indians”. When the European settlement of North America began, there was intense conflict between settlers from overseas and these native people. In 1830, former US president Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act. This act required all Indians to migrate to west of the Mississippi River to allow for the expansion of the US. American Indians were treated as a military “enemy” until 1924, when the few Indians still alive at that point were granted US citizenship. That was the first time that the US government formally recognized the rights of Indians. While the story of the American Indians has been a sad one, their legacy is still felt every day in the US. Many US geographical names come from Indian languages, such as Ohio, Topeka, Kansas and the Potomac River. At the same time, there are many successful academics and other important US leaders who are descended (是…的后裔) from Indians. And nowadays, more and more history classes in US public schools are educating students about how Indians suffered during the settlement of the US. Although what happened cannot be undone, we can learn at least one thing from the sad history of the Indians: If we want a better future, we must look carefully and honestly at the past. 1.Why does the writer mention Taylor Swift and Michael Jordan? A.To challenge readers’ ideas of a typical American. B.To support the writer’s point on American identity. C.To provide typical examples of native Americans. D.To compare their appearances with typical Americans. 2.How were the American Indians treated in the middle of the 19th century? A.They were granted US citizenship. B.They were regarded as a military “enemy”. C.They were required to live along the Mississippi River. D.They were asked to leave the country by the US government. 3.Which of the following aspects shows the American Indian legacy today? A.Origins of names of some places. B.Popularity of the Indian language. C.Success of the Academic and other important US leaders. D.More and more history classes in American public schools. 4.What is the author’s attitude toward the history of American Indians? A.It should be ignored to move on. B.It holds little interest for him. C.It’s hurtful to be reminded of it. D.It’s valuable to reflect on it. Passage 2 (24-25 高二上・四川泸州泸化中学・1 月期末) A few years ago, Paul Gerner began to gather a group of architects in Las Vegas to ask them what it would take to design a public school that used 50 percent less energy, cost much less to build and obviously improved student learning. “I think half of them fell off their chairs,” Gerner says. Gerner manages school facilities (设施) for Clark County, Nevada, a district roughly the size of Massachusetts. By 2018, 143,000 additional students will enter the already crowded public-education system. Gerner needs 73 new schools to house them. Four architecture teams have nearly finished designing primary school prototypes (样品); they plan to construct their schools starting in 2009. The district will then assess how well the schools perform, and three winners will copy those designs in 50 to 70 new buildings. Green schools are appearing all over, but in Clark County, which stands out for its vastness, such aggressive targets are difficult because design requirements like more natural light for students go against the realities of a desert climate. “One of the biggest challenges is getting the right site orientation (朝向),”Mark McGinty, a director at SH Architecture, says. His firm recently completed a high school in Las Vegas. “You have the same building, same set of windows, but if its orientation is incorrect and it faces the sun, it will be really expensive to cool.” Surprisingly, the man responsible for one of the most progressive green-design competitions has doubts about ideas of eco-friendly buildings. “I don’t believe in the new green religion,” Gerner says. “Some of the building technologies that you get are impractical. I’m interested in those that work.” But he wouldn’t mind if some green features inspire students. He says he hopes to set up green energy systems that allow them to learn about the process of harvesting wind and solar power. “You never know what’s going to start the interest of a child to study math and science,” he says. 5.How did the architects react to Gerner’s design requirements? A.They lost balance in excitement. B.They showed strong disbelief. C.They expressed little interest. D.They burst into cheers. 6.Which order of steps is followed in carrying out the project? A.Assessment — Prototype — Design — Construction. B.Assessment — Design — Prototype — Construction. C.Design — Assessment — Prototype — Construction. D.Design — Prototype — Assessment — Construction. 7.What makes it difficult to build green schools in Clark County? A.The large size. B.Limited facilities. C.The desert climate. D.Poor natural resources. 8.What does Gerner think of the ideas of green schools? A.They are questionable. B.They are out of date. C.They are advanced. D.They are practical. I taught home economics for over 40 years and I’m now retired, but do bed and breakfast, and cook privately in other people’s homes. Together with our grandchildren, this keeps me busy. The kitchen has a lot of glass and exposed steel work, which gives it a contemporary, almost industrial feel, which is combined with more traditional elements like the cabinetry (橱柜). We built the kitchen extension to take advantage of the location and views of the garden and beyond. It has carefully placed picture windows, which provide ever-changing views as the seasons continue. We decided to move the kitchen from one end of the barn (仓库) to the next, in order to take advantage of the views. Our architect creatively transformed our basic concept by turning it 90 degrees to include a large glass wall, which we hadn’t thought of. I am always cooking, so I wanted plenty of space, and the ability to entertain on a large scale(大范围) as well as somewhere for the two of us to eat. I love the size, the natural light and the peace and quiet, together with the amazing outlook. We have a large family and the open nature of the kitchen and outdoor terrace make it great for entertaining -but the most relaxing moment is sitting with a cup of tea and, Bill, our dog. I also enjoy the early mornings, watching the sunrise when no one else is up. I particularly love festivals in spring when all the family is home. His parents were alcoholics who would often beat him. They’d even stuff him into a wine container, breaking his little body and leaving only a small opening at the top so he could breathe and see — but only just a little. By the time Vadim turned 9, he was living in an orphanage (孤儿院). Unfortunately, as is the case with far too many little ones, his life only got worse there. Not only was he hurt, but he was placed in a room on the third floor, making it impossible to get downstairs in a wheelchair. This left Vadim crawling up and down the stairs, an activity that was both physically and mentally exhausting. He’d often be late for meals. If the food wasn’t already gone by the time he arrived, other kids would steal from him. Then, a chain effect began when some special folks visited the orphanage. They told him a story about a spiritual figure who advocated love and forgiveness. This conversation helped the 14-year-old find his faith and, in turn, he had more hope than he ever had before. Today, Vadim is on longer the boy subject to fate. He is a father to his own kids, and his life couldn’t be more different or better. Over the years, he’s discovered a gift for expressing himself through art. This inspired Tim Tebow Foundation, an organization fighting for the most vulnerable (脆弱的) people around the world, to ask if he’d like to create a piece that represented what it looked and felt like for him to have gone from “darkness to light.” The result? A truly remarkable painting that features Vadim, in his wheelchair, leaving behind his old home, including the wine container his parents stuffed him into. His new direction includes a beautiful forest full of fall leaves and bright light, showing the hope he is said to have found in the inspiring story. 5.According to the passage, Vadim’s parents treated him ________. A.abusively B.forgivingly C.thoughtfully D.strictly 6.Why did Vadim crawl up and down the stairs when living in the orphanage? A.Because his little roommates often did damage to his wheelchair. It’s called the Chip Bag Project. The 26-year-old student and environmentalist from Detroit is asking a favor of local snack lovers: Rather than throw your empty chip bags into the trash, donate them so she can turn them into sleeping bags for the homeless. Chip eaters drop off their empty bags from Doritos, Lay’s, and other favorites at two locations in Detroit: a print shop and a clothing store, where Oleita and her volunteer helpers collect them. After they sanitize the chip bags in soapy hot water, they slice them open, lay them flat, and iron them together. They use padding and liners from old coats to line the insides. It takes about four hours to sew a sleeping bag, and each takes around 150 to 300 chip bags, depending on whether they’ re single-serve or family size. The result is a sleeping bag that is “waterproof, lightweight, and easy to carry around,” Oleita told the Detroit News. Since its start in 2020, the Chip Bag Project has collected more than 800,000 chip bags and, as of last December, created 110 sleeping bags. Sure, it would be simpler to raise the money to buy new sleeping bags. But that’s only half the goal for Oleita-whose family moved to the United States from Nigeria a decade ago with the hope of attaining a better life-and her fellow volunteers. “We are dedicated to making an impact not only socially, but environmentally,” she says. 1.What does the underlined word “sanitize” mean? A.Clean. B.Burn. C.Color. D.Dry. 2.What do we know about the Chip Bag Project? A.It helps to shake off poverty. B.It has gathered over 900,000 bags. C.It was put forward by chip lovers. D.It helps the poor and environment. 3.Why do chip eaters leave empty bags at given locations? A.Because they are forbidden to litter them. B.Because they happen to print things there. C.Because they want to help Eradajere Oleita. D.Because they can use them to trade clothes. 4.Which is the best title for the passage? A.Chipping Away at Poverty B.Chip Eaters Do a Big Favor C.A Story about Eradajere Oleita D.Good Ways to Save Environment Passage 2 (24-25 高二上・四川泸州泸州高中・1 月期末) As a young girl growing up in France, Sarah Toumi dreamed of becoming a leader who could make the world a better place. Her passion to help others was awakened when, from the age of nine, she accompanied her Tunisian father to his birthplace in the east of the country during holidays. There she organized homework clubs and activities for children. Toumi witnessed first-hand the destructive effect of desertification (沙漠化). “Within10 years rich farmers became worse off, and in 10 years from now they will be poor. I wanted to stop the Sahara Desert in its tracks.” A decrease in average rainfall and an increase in the severity of droughts have led to an estimated 75 percent of Tunisia’s agricultural lands being threatened by desertification. Toumi recognized that farming practices needed to change. She is confident that small land areas can bring large returns if farmers are able to adapt by planting sustainable (可持续的) crops, using new technologies for water treatment and focusing on natural products and fertilizers (肥料) rather than chemicals. In 2012, Toumi continued her dream to fight the desert. She moved to Tunisia, and set up a programme named Acacias for All to put her sustainable farming philosophy into action. “I want to show young people in rural areas that they can create opportunities where they are. Nobody is better able to understand the impact of desertification and climate change than somebody who is living with no access to water.” By September2016, more than 130, 000 acacia trees had been planted on 20 pilot farms, with farmers recording a 60 percent survival rate. Toumi estimates that some 3 million acacia trees are needed to protect Tunisia’s farmland. She expects to plant l million trees by 2028. In the next couple of years, Toumi hopes to extend the programme to Algeria and Morocco. 5.How did Toumi’s holiday trips to Tunisia influence her? A.They fired her enthusiasm for helping others. B.They helped her better understand her father. C.They made her decide to leave the country. D.They destroyed her dream of being a teacher. 6.What is the main cause of the desertification of Tunisia’s farmland? A.Cold weather. B.Soil pollution. C.Low rainfall. D.Forest damage. 7.Why did Toumi set up Acacias for All in Tunisia? A.To create job opportunities for young people. B.To promote the protection of their farmland. C.To persuade the farmers not to use fertilizers. D.To help the children obtain a basic education. 8.Which of the following can be the best title to the text? A.Saving Water in Africa B.Fighting Poverty in North Africa C.Holding back the Sahara D.Planting Trees in Tunisia / 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $ 专题02 阅读理解 记叙文 主题01 人与社会 Passage 1 (24-25 高二上・四川泸州三校联盟) Cai Lei, former vice-president of JD Group, reveals how amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis (诊断) set him on the path to find a cure. A.Joint efforts to fight ALS B.A man who never gives in C.ALS, a rare deadly disease D.Suffering of a man with ALS 【答案】1.D 2.D 3.C 4.B 【导语】这是一篇记叙文,文章介绍了京东集团前副总裁蔡磊因肌萎缩性侧索硬化症(ALS)走上了寻找治疗方法的道路。 1.推理判断题。根据第二段提到的蔡磊的事迹“Born to a farmer’s family in 1978, Cai has been deeply influenced by his father’s idea that “one has to fight for himself”. Since primary school, he has been getting up before 5 am to run and study English. At 29, Cai became chief tax manager in Vanke Co. In 2011, he joined JD Group, where he led his team to develop the first electronic invoice (发票) in China. Wherever he worked, he always tried his best to create new value.(蔡先生1978年出生在一个农民家庭,他深受父亲“人要为自己奋斗”的思想的影响。从小学开始,他一直在早上5点前起床跑步和学习英语。29岁时,他成为万科公司的首席税务经理。2011年,他加入京东集团,在那里他带领他的团队开发了中国第一个电子发票。无论他在哪里工作,他总是尽力创造新的价值)”可知,蔡磊刻苦学习,并且在工作的时候也努力地为公司创造价值,说明他是一个有着坚强意志的,且积极性很高的人。故选D。 2.细节理解题。根据第三段“ALS is usually caused by the gradual death of motor neurons (神经元), which makes normally easy movements like drinking water, eating, going to the bathroom, and speaking impossible. Finally, patients will completely rely on machines and others’ help to survive.(肌萎缩侧索硬化症通常是由运动神经元的逐渐死亡引起的,这使得像喝水、吃饭、上厕所和说话等正常的简单运动变得不可能。最后,病人将完全依赖机器和其他人的帮助来生存)”可知,患上ALS的人在后期会逐渐丧失运动能力,连最基本的功能都丧失,需要借助外在的帮助才能生存下去。故选D。 3.推理判断题。根据第四段“However, the intense effort required, which is unprofitable for so rare an illness, makes it a mission almost impossible. It usually takes 10-15 years to complete the research cycle for a new drug and the cost is $1-3billion. Take Alzheimer’s disease for example. Between 2000 and 2017, investment in new drugs for this more common disease was over $600 billion, and 99.6% of the research on more than 300 drugs failed.(然而,由于这种罕见疾病带来的收益微薄,所需付出的巨大努力使得这一任务几乎不可能完成。 第一段“Cai Lei, former vice-president of JD Group, reveals how amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) diagnosis (诊断) set him on the path to find a cure.(京东集团前副总裁蔡磊透露,肌萎缩性侧索硬化症(ALS)的诊断如何让他踏上了寻找治疗方法的道路。)”总起介绍了罹患ALS的蔡磊开始寻找能够治疗这种疾病的方法,第二段通过他的事迹侧面描写了他是一个有着强烈动机且有着坚强意志的人,最后一段提到“Cai decided to take matters into his own hands.(蔡决定自己动手。)”以及“However, he has decided that even if all efforts prove fruitless, he will continue. To shoot the last bullet, he has decided to donate his brain and spinal cord for scientific research. He will not die for nothing.(然而,他已经决定,即使所有的努力都是徒劳的,他也会继续下去。为了打最后一颗子弹,他决定捐献自己的大脑和脊髓用于科学研究。他不会白死的)”可知,他为这个疾病的治疗方法付出了很多,哪怕是死后捐献自己的身体也在所不惜,即他是一个永不言弃,永不向疾病投降的人。B项“A man who never gives in(一个永不屈服的人)”能很好地概括文章内容,符合文意。故选B。 Passage 2 (24-25 高二上・四川绵阳三台中学・期末) As a housewife, I had Kransky, our dog, for almost two years. She was so proud of herself that she talked about it until she went to sleep.(爱丽丝问她能不能拿着它。然后我丈夫把它放在她手上。她为自己感到非常自豪,她一直谈到这件事,直到睡着为止。)”可推断出,爱丽丝敢拿蝎子了,因此丈夫的课很成功,故选B。 Passage 4 (23-24 高二上・四川泸州泸县四中・1 月期末) At the beginning of Grade Two, I joined the cross-country running team in our school. A.Strict and hard-hearted. B.Brave and adventurous. C.Considerate and supportive. D.Optimistic and humorous. 15.What did the author happen to change after his first cross-country race? A.He lost himself in victories B.He put more effort into his study C.He received more support from his coaches D.He started caring about his teammates 16.. What did the author realize from his experience? A.The importance of team spirit B.The value of competition C.The secret of winning a race D.The benefits of doing sports 【答案】13.B 14.C 15.D 16.A 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了作者在二年级时加入了学校的越野跑团队,发现自己跑得很慢,想要退出。然而,在第一次的比赛中,教练和队友们不管自己跑得快慢都为自己欢呼加油,这使得作者意识到成功并不需要成为最好的,重要的是珍惜人际关系。这一经历教会了作者关心和为他人加油。 13.细节理解题。根据第二段中“But as the distance we ran in each practice gradually increased from three to four, to six miles, I realized with surprise that no matter how hard I tried, I wasn't able to run as fast as others. In fact, I was one of the slowest on the team.(但随着我们每次练习的距离逐渐从三英里增加到四英里,再到六英里,我惊讶地意识到,无论我多么努力,我都不能跑得和别人一样快。事实上,我是队里最慢的一个)”以及第三段“What was the point of putting myself through so much pain? After the first few weeks, I wanted to quit.(让自己经历这么多痛苦有什么意义?开始几周后,我就想放弃了)”可知,作者在开始几周后就想放弃,是因为自己在长跑中表现不好。故选B。 14.推理判断题。根据第五段中“But then I heard my coaches shouting my name from the top of the hill. I felt confused and embarrassed; why were they cheering for me? I was running terribly! As I tried my best to finish the race, I realized that my coaches didn't care how fast I ran. It taught me to cheer for others even if I don't know their names.(越野跑步让我意识到,要想在人生中取得成功,我并不需要成为最好的人。它教会我珍惜与人的关系,而不是与自我的关系。它教会了我为别人喝彩,即使我不知道他们的名字。)”可知,作者从他的经历中意识到了团队精神的重要性。故选A。 Passage 5 (24-25 高二上・四川泸州泸县五中・1 月期末) Sadaf’s childhood was happy. C.Spiritual backing. D.Precious eyesight. 18.Why did Sadaf try basketball? A.To build up her body. B.To prove herself. C.To win awards. D.To pursue her dream. 19.Which of the following can best describe Sadaf? A.Talented but inflexible. B.Disabled but learned. C.Independent and honest. D.Determined and capable. 20.What message can we get from Sadaf's story? A.A fine example has limitless power. B.Do not let your disability rule you. C.Encouragement is the source of power. D.Do not put all your eggs in one basket. 根据第六段中的“By now, I’ve realized that I have to either end my life or struggle to prove myself.(到现在为止,我意识到我要么结束自己的生命,要么努力证明自己)”以及第七段中的“But I wanted to try my hands at everything. So I decided to play basketball as well.(但我想尝试一切。所以我也决定打篮球)”可知,Sadaf打篮球是为了证明自己。故选B项。 19.推理判断题。根据文章第六段“I wanted to prove to the world that people like me can also achieve something. I had just lost my ability to walk, not my ability to use my brain(我想向世界证明,像我这样的人也能有所成就。我只是失去了走路的能力,而不是失去了思考的能力)”和第七段中的“But I wanted to try my hands at everything. So I decided to play basketball as well.(但我想尝试一切。所以我也决定打篮球)”和最后一段的“Sadaf believes that people with disabilities should never doubt themselves.(萨达夫认为,残疾人永远不应该怀疑自己)”可知,Sadaf虽然残疾,但是她开店、打篮球、做生意,非常能干,而且在别人的质疑中勇敢地证明自己的能力,因此也是意志坚定的,所以用“有决心,有能力”能最好描述Sadaf。故选D项。 20.推理判断题。根据Sadaf 的故事以及最后一段中“If you hear others say something not so positive, you may end up depressed. Instead of living within the confines (限制) of a room, try to prove yourself,(如果你听到别人说一些不太积极的话,你可能会感到沮丧。不要限制在一个房间里,试着证明你自己)”可推知,她建议人们要去证明自己的能力,而不要让残疾限制自己。故选B项。 Passage 6 (23-24 高二上・四川宜宾叙州一中・1 月期末) In the digital age, opportunities are arising for everyone. Figure out your focus and what gets you started.(最重要的是做与你的价值观相一致的事情,以及你最初想如何建立一家公司。当你与投资者交谈时,他们会提供可能与你的目标背道而驰的建议。弄清楚你的关注点和开始的动力。)”可推知,Alexandr建议创业者要忠于自己的初衷。故选C。 24.推理判断题。根据第二段中“His ambition to set up an enterprise committed to that was seeded then.(他建立一家致力于这一领域的企业的雄心在那时就被播下了种子)”以及第三段中的“But Alexandr said, “If you aren’t willing to take a risk now, then when?” Alexandr met Lucy Guo at Quora, with whom Alexandr founded Scale AI, a considerable success.(但亚历山大说:“如果你现在不愿意冒险,那什么时候呢? ”亚历山大在Quora遇到了露西·郭,并与她一起创建了Scale AI,取得了相当大的成功。)”可推断,Alexandr创立一家人工智能公司的决心非常坚定,Alexandr敢于冒险、勇于尝试。由此可知,他是意志坚定且敢于冒险的。故选D。 主题02 人与自我 Passage 1 (23-24 高二上・四川泸州泸县五中・1 月期末) Looking around her childhood neighborhood, Shanta Mack, human resources associate with Entergy couldn’t help but share, “As a teenager, I never saw neighbors or local organizations come to my community to volunteer, but when the request was put out to revitalize (复活) the same streets that I grew up on, I jumped at the opportunity.” This year, Entergy employee volunteers celebrated Martin Luther King, Jr. Day with a series of volunteer events across the New Orleans Metro Area over a three-day weekend. I was happy to get out to represent Entergy for MLK Day and will continue to do my part in serving our community, ”said Mack. 1.How did Mack respond to the request to revitalize her childhood streets? A.Doubtfully. B.Unwillingly. C.Cautiously. D.Enthusiastically. 2.What does the underlined part “old neck of the woods ” in paragraph 3 probably mean? A.Neighborhood. B.Apartment. C.Company. D.Environment. 3.Why did Mack volunteer together with her daughter? A.To make her daughter better adapt to her college life. B.To remind her daughter of her childhood memory. C.To teach her daughter to give back to community. D.To strengthen her daughter’s understanding of Dr. King. 4.Which of the following can best describe Shanta Mack? A.Honest and generous. B.Talented and ambitious. C.Active and courageous. D.Loving and responsible. 【答案】1.D 2.A 3.C 4.D 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了一对母女与其他志愿者携手合作,为当地人搭建了一个野餐桌,供他们午餐或休息,并为当地艺术家搭建了舞台,供他们在社区节日期间表演的事迹。 1.推理判断题。根据第一段中““As a teenager, I never saw neighbors or local organizations come to my community to volunteer, but when the request was put out to revitalize (复活) the same streets that I grew up on, I jumped at the opportunity.(作为一名青少年,我从未见过邻居或当地组织来我的社区做志愿者,但当要求振兴我长大的街道时,我抓住了这个机会)”可知,Mack对于重新振兴自己长大的街道时是充满热情的。故选D。 2.词义猜测题。根据划线词后面的非限制性定语从句“which was once full of life, did not look the same as it did when she rode bikes with her friends to the local candy store.(当她和朋友们骑着自行车去当地的糖果店时,这个曾经充满活力的地方看起来已经不一样了)”可知,该地方是Mack曾经成长的街区。由此可知,划线词与A选项“neighborhood”为同义词,意为“街区”。故选A。 3.细节理解题。根据第三段中“It was important for her to not only show her college-bound daughter where she grew up, but she also wanted her daughter to experience what it felt like to give back, especially to her own community. (对她来说,重要的不仅是让她即将上大学的女儿看看她是在哪里长大的,而且她还想让她的女儿体验回馈的感觉,尤其是对她自己的社区)”可知,Mack之所以让女儿与她一同参与社区志愿活动是因为她还想让她的女儿体验回馈的感觉,尤其是对她自己的社区。故选C。 4.推理判断题。根据倒数第二段中“The mother and daughter worked hand-in-hand with other volunteers to build a picnic table for locals to have lunch or rest and a stage for local artists to perform during community festivities.(这对母女与其他志愿者携手合作,为当地人搭建了一个野餐桌,供他们午餐或休息,并为当地艺术家搭建了一个舞台,供他们在社区节日期间表演)”可知,Shanta Mack是一位负责和有爱心的人士。故选D。 Passage 2 (23-24 高二上・四川泸州泸县一中・1 月期末) Opening the pages of Liuba Draws Beijing takes you on a fascinating visual journey through the heart of China’s busy capital city. 【答案】5.B 6.D 7.B 8.A 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章介绍了胡同里的外国艺术家俄罗斯插画师Liuba Vladimirova以及她用水彩为北京手绘的“纪念册”——《Liuba画北京》。 5.词句猜测题。根据第二段中划线部分所在句中的“Vladimirova’s journey from the icy Siberian city of Irkutsk to the vital Beijing started during her college years(弗拉基米罗娃从冰冷的西伯利亚城市伊尔库茨克到充满活力的北京的旅程始于她的大学时代)”可知,Vladimirova在上大学时来到北京;由划线部分所在从句“when she commenced with an academic exchange program connecting her Russian university with Liaoning University in Shenyang, in Northeast China’s Liaoning Province(当时她commenced with一个学术交流项目,将她所在的俄罗斯大学与中国东北辽宁省沈阳的辽宁大学联系起来)”以及下文“It was during this transformative period that she first set foot in Beijing.(正是在这一变革时期,她第一次踏上了北京的土地)”可知,她由于在大学期间来到辽宁大学开始学术交流项目而有机会去北京;“she commenced with an academic exchange program connecting her Russian university with Liaoning University in Shenyang”表达的意思为“她开始了她的俄罗斯大学与沈阳辽宁大学的学术交流项目”,“commenced with”意为“开始”,与B选项began表达意思一致。故选B。 6.推理判断题。根据第三段“Vladimirova’s path as an artist was far from linear (直线的). Since childhood Vladimirova has developed a love for drawing and painting. However, she pursued a different academic and professional route, studying Chinese and international trade in college and later working in trade relations between Russia and China, none of which was directly connected to the world of art. 根据第四段“In 2015, Vladimirova began crafting a series of illustrations centered around Beijing, properly named “The Beijing Calendar”. What attracts Vladimirova most is Beijing’s historic hutong. These narrow alleyways, rich in history and culture, serve as a wellspring (源泉) of inspiration for her artistry.(2015年,Vladimirova开始创作一系列以北京为中心的插图,并将其命名为“北京日历”。最吸引Vladimirova的是北京历史悠久的胡同。这些历史文化丰富的窄巷是她艺术创作灵感的源泉)”可知,最吸引Vladimirova的是北京历史悠久的胡同,历史文化丰富的窄巷是她艺术创作灵感的源泉;由此推知,作者提到胡同是为了展示Vladimirova艺术创作的灵感。故选B。 8.推理判断题。通读全文,尤其是根据最后一段“Vladimirova’s ability to catch these hidden small differences likely comes from her unique perspective as an “outsider”— someone who didn’t grow up in Beijing. This fresh perspective allowed her to arrive in the city with fresh eyes and an eager heart, ready to embrace a new culture. 故选A。 主题03 人与自然 Passage 1 (23-24 高二上・四川宜宾叙州二中・1 月期末) Since I was born and brought up in a rural town, I have a great interest in nature. 【答案】1.B 2.D 3.C 4.A 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。作者出生在乡下,对大自然有浓厚的兴趣。他利用大二出国学习的机会去了解加拿大,因为他想观看那里美丽的风景。 1.推理判断题。前文提到“The northern lights were flickering (闪烁)in the sky! I was amazed and just stood there with my mouth open. ”(北极光在天空中闪烁!我很惊讶,只是张着嘴站在那里。)作者被门外北极光的美景所震撼了,因此忘记了拍照。故选B。 2.推理判断题。第三段最后两句提到“Actually, the time of my being able to be out was limited.   I had to bring her camera back to the house in one hour at the most, for the camera was going to be broken because of the cold temperature.”(事实上,我能出去的时间是有限的。我不得不在最多一个小时内把她的相机带回家,因为温度太低,相机快要坏了。)由此判断,相机长时间暴露在低温环境下会受到损伤。故选D。 3.细节理解题。从第四段第三句“After that, suddenly, they come in the middle of the north and south only for a while, which is the time when the best northern lights can be seen.”(在那之后,它们突然出现在南北的中间,只是一会儿,这是最好的北极光可以看到的时候。)可知,当北极光位于北部和南部中间时最佳观看时间,故选C。 4.细节理解题。第四段最后一句提到“Since it is only a few seconds for the northern lights to come down to the middle of the sky, it is very hard to get good pictures.”(由于北极光降落到天空中央只有几秒钟的时间,所以很难拍到好的照片。)由此判断,因为北极光出现在天空中央很短,因此很难拍到好看的照片。故选A。 Passage 2 (23-24 高二上・四川宜宾叙州二中・1 月期末) The cat Bubby showed up on the doorstep of Wiseman’s father, Abbott, who was putting out food for a different stray cat (流浪猫). 【答案】1.A 2.B 3.A 4.D 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章主要讲述了历史上美国印第安人的悲惨生活,作者认为反思美洲印第安人的历史是很有价值的。 1.推理判断题。根据第一段“When you think of a typical American, who do you picture? A pretty blond white American like Taylor Swift or a handsome black American like basketball star Michael Jordan? In fact, there was a time when the average American looked like neither of these people.(当你想到一个典型的美国人时,你会想到谁?像泰勒·斯威夫特这样漂亮的金发美国白人,还是像篮球明星迈克尔·乔丹这样英俊的美国黑人?事实上,曾经有一段时间,普通美国人看起来不像这些人。)”可推知,作者提到泰勒·斯威夫特和迈克尔·乔丹是为了挑战读者对典型美国人的看法,形成一种反差,吸引读者。故选A。 2.细节理解题。根据第三段中“American Indians were treated as a military “enemy” until 1924, when the few Indians still alive at that point were granted US citizenship.(美国印第安人都被视为军事“敌人”,直到 1924 年,当时少数仍然活着的印第安人被授予美国公民身份)”可知,19世纪中叶,美洲印第安人被视为军事“敌人”。故选B。 3.细节理解题。根据倒数第二段中“While the story of the American Indians has been a sad one, their legacy is still felt every day in the US. Many US geographical names come from Indian languages, such as Ohio, Topeka, Kansas and the Potomac River.(尽管美洲印第安人的故事令人悲伤,但美国每天仍能感受到他们的遗产。美国的许多地名都来自印第安语言,如俄亥俄州、托皮卡州、堪萨斯州和波托马克河。)”可知,一些地名的由来体现了当今美洲印第安人的遗产。故选A。 4.推理判断题。根据最后一段“Although what happened cannot be undone, we can learn at least one thing from the sad history of the Indians: If we want a better future, we must look carefully and honestly at the past.(尽管已经发生的事情无法挽回,但我们至少可以从印第安人的悲惨历史中学到一件事:如果我们想要更好的未来,我们必须认真、诚实地审视过去)”可推知,作者认为反思美洲印第安人的历史是很有价值的。故选D。 Passage 2 (24-25 高二上・四川泸州泸化中学・1 月期末) A few years ago, Paul Gerner began to gather a group of architects in Las Vegas to ask them what it would take to design a public school that used 50 percent less energy, cost much less to build and obviously improved student learning. 【答案】5.B 6.D 7.C 8.A 【分析】这是一篇记叙文。短文叙述了在Clark County建设环保学校所面临的问题。 5.推理判断题。根据第一段I think half of them fell off their chairs可知,我想他们中有一半人差点从椅子上摔下来。由此判断出建筑师们对Gerner的要求感到不可思议,不可相信。故选B项。 6.细节理解题。根据第二段Gerner needs 73 new schools to house them. Four architecture teams have nearly finished designing primary school prototypes (样品); they plan to construct their schools starting in 2009. The district will then assess how well the schools perform, and three winners will copy those designs in 50 to 70 new buildings. 可知, 四个建筑团队几乎完成了初级的原型设计,他们计划从2009年开始建设自己的学校。然后,该地区将评估这些学校的表现。所以工程的实施应按照“设计—提供样品—评估—建设”的程序。故选D项。 7.细节理解题。根据第三段…such aggressive targets are difficult because design requirements like more natural light for students go against the realities of a desert climate可知,建筑环保校园的难题是沙漠气候。而并非巨大的面积、有限的设施或贫瘠的自然资源,故选C项。 8.细节推理题。根据最后一段Surprisingly, the man responsible for one of the most progressive green-design competitions has doubts about ideas of eco-friendly buildings可知,令人惊讶的是,负责最先进的环保校园设计竞赛之一的人对环保建筑的理念表示怀疑。所以Gerner对环保学校感到怀疑,故选A项。 Passage 3 (24-25 高二上・四川成都邛崃一中・1 月期末) Ma Jun, born in 1995 in Ningxia, is the youngest winner of the Junma Awards for Ethnic Literature in the prose (散文)category for his first work, “Qing Bai Shijie”. After graduation, they have been working together on Chinese plays with Wang as a producer and Tian as a director. In 2020, after the coronavirus pandemic(疫情) hit, Tian considered creating a play. Since most of his works were based on classic works, Tian decided to write an original play. This turned out to be a three-hour-long play, titled Will, exploring the life story of Shakespeare. “When we researched Shakespeare’s own life story, we found that we shared lots of experiences and emotions with him.” says Wang when asked about the inspiration. Tian agrees: “We share the passion for theater. We face problems after we left school, such as looking for job opportunities to make ends meet, and struggling between reality and dreams. We see ourselves through this play, Will.” With four actors and actresses playing more than 30 roles, the play follows the man, Will, who, at the age of 5, entered the theater of Stratford City Hall by accident and became attached to it. Before adulthood, he went to London to seek his theater dream and launched his career, which brought him fortune and fame(名声). Before adulthood, he went to London to seek his theater dream and launched his career, which brought him fortune and fame(名声). Then in his later years, he returned to Stratford, his hometown and stayed there until his death.(该剧由四位男女演员扮演30多个角色,讲述了一个名叫威廉的男人,他在5岁时偶然进入斯特拉特福市政厅剧院并与之结缘。成年前,他前往伦敦寻求戏剧梦想,并开始了他的职业生涯,这给他带来了财富和名声。然后在晚年,他回到家乡斯特拉特福,一直待在那里直到去世。)”中的at the age of 5,Before adulthood,Then, until his death可知,作者按照时间顺序讲述戏剧的内容。故选B。 4.主旨大意题。根据第二段中的“This turned out to be a three-hour-long play, titled Will, exploring the life story of Shakespeare.(这结果是一部三小时长的戏剧,名为《威廉与我》,探讨莎士比亚的生平故事。)”并结合全文内容可知,本文主要围绕汪鹏飞和田晓威创作的戏剧《威廉与我》展开,这部戏剧揭示了莎士比亚的生平故事,由此可推测出,A项“让莎士比亚真实再现”符合题意。故选A。 Passage 2 (24-25 高二上・四川绵阳南山中学・期末) Growing up in Ukraine, Vadim didn’t know what it was like to live in a safe, stable home. B.Because other children would take his meal without permission. C.Because he couldn’t use the wheelchair to go downstairs from a high floor. D.Because getting downstairs was demanding for him physically and mentally. 7.The phrase “a chain effect ” in paragraph 4 refers to ________. A.an effective treatment for Vadim’s disability B.a series of positive changes occurring in Vadim’s life C.a sense of hope from the story of a spiritual figure D.a helping hand from Tim Tebow Foundation 8.What is the message that Vadim wants to convey in his remarkable painting? A.He admires the beauty and harmony of nature. B.He leads a miserable life with his own kids. C.He excels in delicate painting techniques. D.He says farewell to the past and harvests happiness. 【答案】5.A 6.C 7.B 8.D 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了乌克兰孤儿Vadim在经历虐待、困境后,找到信仰,走向光明人生的历程。 5.细节理解题。根据第一段中“His parents were alcoholics who would often beat him. They’d even stuff him into a wine container, breaking his little body and leaving only a small opening at the top so he could breathe and see — but only just a little.(他的父母都是酒鬼,经常打他。他们甚至把他塞进一个葡萄酒容器里,把他小小的身体弄伤,只在顶部留下一个小口,让他可以呼吸和看到外面——但只有一点点)”可知,Vadim常常遭到父母的虐待。故选A项。 6.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Not only was he hurt, but he was placed in a room on the third floor, making it impossible to get downstairs in a wheelchair.(他不仅受伤了,而且被安置在三楼的一个房间里,坐轮椅根本无法下楼)”和第三段中“This left Vadim crawling up and down the stairs, an activity that was both physically and mentally exhausting.(这让瓦迪姆在楼梯上爬上爬下,这是一项身心俱疲的活动)”可知,Vadim只能爬上爬下楼梯是因为坐在轮椅上无法下楼。故选C项。 7.词句猜测题。根据划线词后文“They told him a story about a spiritual figure who advocated love and forgiveness. This conversation helped the 14-year-old find his faith and, in turn, he had more hope than he ever had before.(他们给他讲了一个关于一位提倡爱和宽恕的精神人物的故事。这次谈话帮助这个14岁的男孩找到了他的信仰,反过来,他比以往任何时候都有了更多的希望)”可知,特殊人物的到访让Vadim找到信仰,给他带来希望,这些都积极的变化。所以“Then, a chain effect began when some special folks visited the orphanage.(然后,当一些特殊的人访问孤儿院时,a chain effect开始了)”中a chain effect指的是“一系列积极变化”。故选B项。 8.推理判断题。根据第五段中“This inspired Tim Tebow Foundation, an organization fighting for the most vulnerable (脆弱的) people around the world, to ask if he’d like to create a piece that represented what it looked and felt like for him to have gone from “darkness to light.”(这激发了蒂姆·蒂博基金会(Tim Tebow Foundation)的灵感,该基金会是一个为世界上最弱势群体而战的组织,他们问他是否愿意创作一件作品,代表他从“黑暗走向光明”的样子和感觉)”和最后一段中“A truly remarkable painting that features Vadim, in his wheelchair, leaving behind his old home, including the wine container his parents stuffed him into. His new direction includes a beautiful forest full of fall leaves and bright light, showing the hope he is said to have found in the inspiring story.(这是一幅非常了不起的画,画中瓦迪姆坐在轮椅上,离开了他的老家,还有他父母塞给他的酒桶。他的新方向包括一个充满落叶和明亮光线的美丽森林,展示了他据说在鼓舞人心的故事中找到的希望)”可推知,Vadim想在这幅非凡的画作中表达的是他从黑暗走向光明,告别过去,收获幸福。故选D项。 主题03 人与社会 Passage 1 (23-24高二上・仁寿第一中学校(北校区)・1 月期末) Eradajere Oleita thinks she may have a solution to two of our country’s long-lasting problems: garbage and poverty. A.Chipping Away at Poverty B.Chip Eaters Do a Big Favor C.A Story about Eradajere Oleita D.Good Ways to Save Environment 【答案】1.A 2.D 3.C 4.B 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了一位年轻的女孩Eradajere Oleita创建Chip Bag Project公益项目。吃薯片的人通过捐赠空薯片袋,让Eradajere Oleita和项目志愿者为无家可归者制作睡袋,既保护了环境,又减少了贫困。 1.词句猜测题。根据第二段中“After they sanitize the chip bags in soapy hot water, they slice them open, lay them flat, and iron them together. (他们在肥皂热水中sanitize薯片袋后,将其切开,平放,然后将其熨在一起)”和常识可知,把薯片袋放在肥皂热水中,应该是为了清理;由此推知,划线词sanitize与clean意思接近。故选A项。 2.细节理解题。根据第一段中“Eradajere Oleita thinks she may have a solution to two of our country’s long-lasting problems: garbage and poverty. It’s called the Chip Bag Project. (Eradajere Oleita认为她可能会解决我们国家的两个长期问题:垃圾和贫困。它被称为薯片袋项目)”和“Rather than throw your empty chip bags into the trash, donate them so she can turn them into sleeping bags for the homeless. (与其把你的空薯片袋扔进垃圾桶,不如把它们捐赠出去,这样她就可以把它们变成无家可归者的睡袋)”可知,Oleita通过回收薯片袋来制作睡袋来帮助无家可归者和保护环境,说明薯片袋项目有助于穷人和环境。故选D项。 3.推理判断题。根据第二段中“Chip eaters drop off their empty bags from Doritos, Lay’s, and other favorites at two locations in Detroit: a print shop and a clothing store, where Oleita and her volunteer helpers collect them. (吃薯片的人把多力多滋(Doritos)、乐事(Lay’s)和其他最受欢迎的食物的空袋子放在底特律的两个地方:一家印刷店和一家服装店,Oleita和她的志愿者在那里收集)”可知,Oleita和她的志愿者在底特律的两个固定地方收集空薯片袋,可得出吃薯片的人会把空袋子放在指定的位置,是因为想帮助Eradajere Oleita收集空薯片袋。故选C项。 4.主旨大意题。根据第一段中“Eradajere Oleita thinks she may have a solution to two of our country’s long-lasting problems: garbage and poverty. (Eradajere Oleita认为她可能会解决我们国家的两个长期问题:垃圾和贫困)”和最后一段中““We are dedicated to making an impact not only socially, but environmentally,” she says. (她说:“我们致力于不仅对社会,而且对环境产生影响。”)”及全文可知,热心女孩Eradajere Oleita创建Chip Bag Project公益项目。吃薯片的人通过捐赠空薯片袋,让Eradajere Oleita和项目志愿者为无家可归者制作睡袋,既保护了环境,又减少了贫困,B项“吃薯片的人帮大忙(Chip Eaters Do a Big Favor)”可以作为本文的最佳标题。故选B项。 Passage 2 (24-25 高二上・四川泸州泸州高中・1 月期末) As a young girl growing up in France, Sarah Toumi dreamed of becoming a leader who could make the world a better place. A.Saving Water in Africa B.Fighting Poverty in North Africa C.Holding back the Sahara D.Planting Trees in Tunisia 【答案】5.A 6.C 7.B 8.C 【导语】本文是一篇记叙文。文章讲述了Sarah Toumi的成长经历及其为对抗沙漠化、保护突尼斯农田所做出的努力,包括成立Acacias for All项目,种植树木以维护生态平衡,同时也提及了她的个人愿景和项目的发展影响。 5.推理判断题。根据文章第一段“As a young girl growing up in France, Sarah Toumi dreamed of becoming a leader who could make the world a better place. Her passion to help others was awakened when, from the age of nine, she accompanied her Tunisian father to his birthplace in the east of the country during holidays. There she organized homework clubs and activities for children. (作为一个在法国长大的年轻女孩,Sarah Toumi梦想成为一名能够让世界变得更美好的领导者。从九岁起,她就在假期陪伴Tunisian父亲前往他在该国东部的出生地,这唤醒了她帮助他人的热情。在那里,她为孩子们组织了家庭作业俱乐部和活动。)”可知,Toumi在Tunisian的假期旅行激发了她帮助他人的热情。故选A。 6.细节理解题。根据文章第二段中的“A decrease in average rainfall and an increase in the severity of droughts have led to an estimated 75 percent of Tunisia’s agricultural lands being threatened by desertification. (平均降雨量的减少和干旱严重程度的增加导致突尼斯大约75%的农业用地受到荒漠化的威胁。)”可知,导致突尼斯农田沙漠化的主因是降水量减少。故选C。 7.推理判断题。根据文章第四段“In 2012, Toumi continued her dream to fight the desert. She moved to Tunisia, and set up a programme named Acacias for All to put her sustainable farming philosophy into action. “I want to show young people in rural areas that they can create opportunities where they are. Nobody is better able to understand the impact of desertification and climate change than somebody who is living with no access to water.” (2012年,Toumi继续她与沙漠作战的梦想。她搬到了突尼斯,建立了一个名为“Acacias for All”的项目,将她的可持续农业理念付诸行动。“我想向农村地区的年轻人展示,他们可以在自己所在的地方创造机会。没有人比那些生活在没有水的地方的人更能理解荒漠化和气候变化的影响。”)”和第五段中“Toumi estimates that some 3 million acacia trees are needed to protect Tunisia’s farmland. (Toumi估计需要大约300万棵金合欢树来保护Tunisia的农田。)”可知,Toumi建立Acacias for All的目的是为了推广保护他们农田的行动。故选B。 8.主旨大意题。通读全文,尤其是由文章第二段“Toumi witnessed first-hand the destructive effect of desertification (沙漠化). 因此,“Holding back the Sahara (阻挡Sahara)”最能概括文章主题。故选C。 / 学科网(北京)股份有限公司 $
