Passage 1
Pop stars have traditionally not come from the upper classes of society. Eminem grew up on a trailer (活动住屋) park. 50 Cent is from the dangerous shelters of New York. The Beatles grew up in the poor city of Liverpool.
However, some musicians have come from the army. Elvis Presley, the King of Rock and Roll, served with the American Army in Germany while Jimi Hendrix was in the parachute regiment (伞兵团). Following in that tradition comes a British hit, James Blunt. His single, You’re Beautiful, was a huge success, and his concerts have sold out all over the country.
James Blunt, born on February 22, 1977, comes from a family with a long tradition of military service. His early life was not filled with music. His army officer father thought all music, even classical, was unnecessary noise. His life seemed certain to follow that of his father’s before him—private schools, a good university and a career as an officer in the British Army. The thought of pursuing a career in music had never occurred to him until he witnessed an older boy playing an electric guitar at age 14. When he was sent to Kosovo in 1999, he didn’t just take his gun he also took his guitar, attached to the side of his tank. As he drove through villages damaged by the war, he used to sing the John Lennon song Give Peace a Chance. “Well,” he later said, “we were peacekeepers.”
In 2003 he left the army and went to Los Angeles to make a record. In 2004, his first album Back to Bedlam was released, and the singles High, Wise Men and You’re Beautiful have been great successes. For the singing soldier, putting down a gun for a guitar has been a good choice.
1.What do Elvis Presley and James Blunt have in common?
A.They were from upper social classes. B.They were kings of Rockand Roll.
C.They rose to fame in Britain. D.They used to serve in the army.
2.What made James Blunt take up music?
A.His father’s support. B.The Beatles’ influence.
C.A guitar performance. D.Family tradition of music.
3.What is James Blunt’ s first album?
A.Back to Bedlam. B.Give Peace a Chance.
C.High, Wise Men. D.You’re Beautiful.
4.What is the last paragraph mainly about?
A.Blunt’s journey to the US. B.Blunt’s success as a singer.
C.Blunt’s practice of singing. D.Blunt’s best-selling records.

Being the strong wife and mother that she is, Diana Register often hid her deep pain and suffering from those around her. In the weeks and months following her husband’s cancer diagnosis, Diana would search for “hiding” places where she could let the uncontrollable waterfalls of tears flow from her eyes.
“The storage room was a favorite. Then was the shower. But when I wasn’t home, it was the parking lots that served as my hiding places,” she said. After her husband passed away, parking lots were Diana’s safe haven (避风港) for pain and sorrow.
One day, as she was about to place her order in the Dutch Brothers coffee drive-thru (汽车餐厅), the wave of sadness hit her like a tidal wave in the middle of her conversation with a friend.
“I could hardly catch my breath and the ugly crying started,” said Diana. “The problem was, I was stuck in the coffee line at Dutch Brothers, one place where all the workers are young, happy and jamming out to music. And there was no way out. I was literally blocked in, so unless I wanted to back right up into the SUV behind me, I was about to be seen for the mess I really was.”
The barista, who was making and serving coffee at the window, handed Diana an iced coffee with a sweet and simple note on the top. “When I looked down in the cup holder, I saw it. A pink straw, and the words ‘We love you’ written around it.”

Passage 3
Joshua Nelson, 18, from Missouri, is graduating from St. Charles West High School this week and will be attending Southeast Missouri State in the fall. He had saved up money to pay for his tuition, but when he received the college's President's Scholarship, he decided to take his savings and donate it to other students in need.
“It comes from my family education and faith," Nelson said. "I've always lived by strong principles as far as being a cheerful giver and having an open hand when it comes to giving back so I feel like that really motivated me.”
SEMO's President's Scholarship is the school’s most celebrated, and is only awarded to five top students annually. Nelson said he sat down and outlined how a scholarship could work to help future students who need financial assistance for college. Originally the plan was to give away $ 1,000 the one time, but then he met up with his counselor (顾问), Yolanda Curry, to work out a game plan.

Passage 4
I hesitated when my friend suggested that we join the school’s new Tai Chi club. I used to think that tai chi was for the elderly. However, the first class changed my previous understanding of tai chi. A year later, I can say that tai chi has had a huge impact on me.
The first few tai chi classes were fun and easy, and the moves with descriptive names really caught my imagination, like “white crane spreading its wings” and “golden rooster standing on one leg.” When I asked my coach where these interesting names came from, he told me about the history of tai chi. Zhang Sanfeng, a 13th-century Taoist, was said to have invented tai chi after drawing inspiration from a fight between a snake and a bird. However, nowadays people tend to believe that Chen Wangting, a 17th-century master of Chinese martial arts, developed tai chi based on martial arts skills.
After the first few basic tai chi lessons, I found myself bored and aching from doing the same slow moves over and over again. Fortunately, my coach taught me how to relax my muscles and focus on peace of mind during ever, day practice. With these requirements of tai chi in mind, I found to my satisfaction that my balance and flexibility slowly improved, that I was able to do more difficult moves, and that my love for tai chi returned stronger than ever.
Meanwhile, I started to explore the ancient Chinese culture behind tai chi. I discovered that tai chi is deeply rooted in the Chinese philosophy of yin and yang, which are believed to form the unity of opposite. Neither can exist independent of the other. The practice of tai chi aims to keep the balance of yin and yang in the body through opposite movements: forwards and backwards, up and down, left and right, breathing in and breathing out. Ultimately, tai chi brings about a state of physical balance and mental peace.
The experience of a year of tai chi has affected my everyday life positively. I sleep more soundly at night, and feel more energetic during the day. I feel happier and more confident. Tai chi has taught me to relax my mind, enabling me to stay calm in stressful situations. I am sure I will continue to practise tai chi and enjoy the benefits it has brought me.
13.Why did the author join the Tai Chi Club?
A.Because of his friend’s advice. B.Because of his interest in it.
C.Because of the school’s request. D.Because of his parents’ suggestion.
14.Which of the following words can describe the moves of tai chi?
A.Quick and beautiful. B.Quick and free.
C.Slow and beautiful. D.Slow and boring.
15.What is the Chinese culture behind tai chi?
A.Tai chi is influenced by Laozi’s philosophy of water.
B.Tai chi can have a positive effect in people’s lives.
C.You can find the origin of tai chi in the Chinese philosophy of yin and yang.
D.Tai chi can make people feel energetic and confident.
16.What does the underlined word mean?
A.Finally B.Sometimes C.Firstly D.Constantly

Zhang Sanfeng, a 13th-century Taoist, was said to have invented tai chi after drawing inspiration from a fight between a snake and a bird.(最初的几节太极课既有趣又简单,那些动作的名字也很吸引我,比如“白鹤展翅”和“金鸡独立”。

根据划线词前文“The practice of tai chi aims to keep the balance of yin and yang in the body through opposite movements: forwards and backwards, up and down, left and right, breathing in and breathing out.(练习太极的目的是通过相反的动作来保持身体的阴阳平衡:前后,上下,左右,吸气和呼气)”表明太极的动作,划线词后一句“ tai chi brings about a state of physical balance and mental peace.(太极拳带来一种身体平衡和精神平静的状态)”可知,这些招式最终会带来一种平衡的状态,划线词与Finally(最终)意思相近。故选A。
Passage 1
As we enjoyed our trip in Paris, I noticed that the people we came across were helpful, kind and nice. One day, an employee from a burger place across the street from our hotel noticed my Cleveland Cavaliers cap. We struck up a conversation about basketball and he encouraged me to visit his establishment.
The next day we stopped there — a snack bar, and the guy that I talked to wasn’t there. Overall, there was room for about a dozen people to eat in the place. The guy that was taking my order spoke a little English, just enough for me to understand. Midway through my attempt to place my order, he apologized that his English wasn’t very good. I thought for a split second and responded “et mon francais est très mal!”
He froze for a moment and the look on his face was priceless. It was some combination (混合) of shock, surprise, being impressed and a little amusement. He shook my hand and said “okay, okay that’s good! ”
It was just a small connection with someone on the other side of the world, someone I’ll probably never see again. But for that instant there was a cool connection between two people, both understanding that speaking other languages wasn’t easy! Both appreciating each other’s effort to communicate in a way that the other person would understand, no matter how bad our attempts were.
Later I found that my direct translation wasn’t exactly what I intended. I didn’t find that out until much later! I was attempting to say “and my French is very bad”, what came out instead was “and my French is very wrong”. That was so much better because I just proved my point even more without knowing it.
Perhaps the best part of the story is that the burger that I got was the best burger that I’ve ever had in my life! I still dream about that burger and laugh every time I think about going to that burger spot.
1.What does the author think of their trip in Paris?
A.Pleasant. B.Hard. C.Adventurous. D.Embarrassing.
2.How did the guy respond when he first heard the author’s poor French?
A.He felt funny. B.He felt angry.
C.He was amazed. D.He was indifferent.
3.What value is the author trying to promote through the story?
A.Willingness and courage. B.Kindness and adventure.
C.Forgiveness and generosity. D.Understanding and respect.
4.What does the author want to express in the last paragraph?
A.He likes eating burger best. B.He speaks highly of that snack bar.
C.He is impressed by the snack bar trip. D.He dreams to visit the snack bar again.

Perhaps the best part of the story is that the burger that I got was the best burger that I’ve ever had in my life! Passage 2
Letting me move into my university dormitory wasn’t an easy decision for my parents. However, they knew if I wanted a good education, I’d have to live away from home. I’d always dream of living alone the life of no rules and regulations and being independent. So I was delighted about this new stage in my life.
Unexpectedly, during the first few months of living alone, I would find myself crying every day. I would call my mum every day. Coming from a big family, I was used to noises surrounding me. Therefore, the scary silence at night was the worst. I couldn’t even sleep without keeping the lights on.
As time went by, I started enjoying the freedom that came with living alone. I could do things in my own time: eat whenever I want, wake up whenever I want. The space of loneliness was also then filled up by friends who became like family, so I started missing my family less.
When it was time to say goodbye and go back home after my graduation I was bittersweet. I’d enjoyed my time alone, learning things which wouldn’t have been possible if I had never moved away from home. But I’d also missed my family too much.
I’d learned a lot from this experience. Living alone made me value family time even more. I realized every second with them was important though I might not get the freedom while living alone.
I guess it’s different for everybody, but for me, there is no warmth in a house unless it’s filled with loving members and people you love.

A.The author felt cold living in school.
B.The author’s dormitory was the warmest place.
C.The author felt warm living with his beloved ones.
D.Everyone felt warm when living with his beloved ones.
8.What does the author want to tell us?
A.Family is the most important place in people’s life.

Passage 3
A Texas mom, Hammond, is eager to encourage others to learn about autism (自闭症) through her book, A Day With No Words. The book follows her son, Aidan, through a regular day, as he uses a tablet (平板电脑) to tell his mom what he thinks or what he wants for lunch.
Aidan has autism and so does his brother, Josiah. Aidan does not speak while Josiah can speak in some situations. “After people learn that Aidan doesn’t speak, one response they will have is to ask: ‘So he doesn’t know words?’ or ‘Does he not understand anything that we’re saying?’” said Hammond. Those questions pressed Hammond to find a way to show the life of people with autism.
Hammond said Aidan understood words. He communicated by using a tablet that let him express himself through pictures and words. “When my son was younger, some experts would say, ‘Oh, he is unlikely to speak.’ But he’s kind of communicating with us, through his eyes; through pointing; through grabbing my hand and bringing me somewhere. He laughs when I make a joke; he cries when I’m sad. All these expressions are communication. He’s communicating with me, just in a unique way,” Hammond said. “And I love that. I love that for him.”
Aidan’ s communication method is shown in A Day With No Words. “I wanted to support my sons in every possible way that I could,” Hammond said.
Hammond surely hopes to make readers think more deeply about communication and learn more about autism. Besides, she also wants to stress the close ties she has with her son, Aidan. “I wanted to show that he is like all the other kids. He loves being outside. He loves swings (秋千). He loves playing on the grass, and he loves life,” she added.
9.How did Aidan communicate?
A.Just by crying and laughing.
B.With the help of his brother Josiah.
C.By speaking in some situations.

Passage 4
I met a beautiful soul yesterday. I went to work with my computer to a local café so that I could have dinner there. It was raining a bit this time and also I was among people. Sometimes when you work from home all day this is in itself a treat. And the magic of the connection sometimes happens—a smile, someone offering you the newspaper, a short conversation with the staff, a peace dove flying past and lots of possibilities for love and kindness.
Well, magic did happen. I heard a man who was speaking with difficulty and very loud. I noticed he could not speak so clearly and he had some kind of impairment (损伤). As often happens, people looked at him or avoided doing so, and then—as if embarrassed or afraid—looked down. In these cases I try to do the opposite. I imagined a person in these situations would want to feel integrated
So I decided to deliberately (故意地) look at him and smile. It was an instant (瞬间)! He looked at me, smiled and immediately said hello. With a combination of spoken and body language he asked if he could approach me. I agreed. He introduced me to his friend who taught sign language online and explained that they were both deaf, after which he even told me about his wife and how he loved teaching. I apologized for not knowing sign language and hoped I’d learned. We still managed to have a beautiful “conversation” which made us all very happy. I’m sure we’ll meet again to experience the magic of being with others.
13.Why did the author go to the café yesterday?
A.To find someone beautiful. B.To work and eat something.

A.Being included into normal life. B.Accepting help from people around.
C.Avoiding the embarrassments in life. D.Having a friend in the same situation.

A.He pretended not to see him. B.He had a joke with him.
C.He looked and smiled at him. D.He laughed at him like others.

Today was my first day at senior high and it was hard. In high school, you have 4 minutes to get to your next class. My high school is very big and those 4 minutes to go from one class to another really isn’t a lot of time. Today I had to go from one end of the building to the other to get from science class to math class. I wanted to go to my locker first and leave my science book there, but that took time. I was worried about being late, and I was. The math teacher said, “Just be on time tomorrow, or you’ll have detention (放学后留校).”
After math, I went to art class. I like my art class a lot because I get to create things. The teacher there showed us how to make portraits (肖像). It does not just show how the person looks but what is important to understand the person.” We just did drawings today, but I know it’s going to be great. I like drawing.
I like my English class, too. I think the teacher is really supportive. Today we wrote about ourselves. The teacher said to just write what you think, and we’ll pay attention to punctuation (标点) later. We could write a paragraph or a poem, and I wrote a poem about myself. I thought it was a good poem, and the teacher said I had used good images (意象) to communicate my feelings.
Lunch was very hurried. I arrived at the dining room with 12 minutes to eat. I sat with people I didn’t know, and everyone was eating quickly. After lunch I signed up for a computer club. My senior high school is called Yantai No. 1 Middle School with a long history, which can date back to 1931. When I recall my memorable high school life, I feel blissful and impressed.
To be honest, my senior high school life was very tiring but I really enjoyed it. I was asked to put study in the first place all the time by both my parents and my teachers. Our class was like a big family. I got along well with my classmates. We always discussed issues of all kinds after class. Passage 2
When I was a teenager, I wrote postcards to show my friends the new places I had explored every time my family took a vacation. I considered postcards as simply a way to share travels until I came across my grandmother’s postcard album (专辑).
It was a dark gray leather album, where most of the postcards had pictures that did not reflect a holiday or a travel destination. Instead, the notes were mostly invitations to a dinner party or, a walk the next day.
“Why do these postcards ask you to come to tea?” I asked my grandmother. “Because this is how we communicated before we had a telephone,” she said. “I would post a postcard in the morning mail, and a friend would receive it that afternoon. Then she would post a reply that arrived in my mail the next morning.”
I was surprised. Life without a phone sounded like something out of the world. Connecting by postcard seemed as unexpected as using a pigeon (鸽子). I had forgotten about my grandmother’s postcards until lockdowns (封锁) limited our trips to seeing our three granddaughters. Remembering my grandmother’s album, I bought several sets of cards and every few weeks, I’d write notes and mail them.
Then one day I opened my mailbox and saw three hand-addressed envelopes. They were from my granddaughters, each thanking me for the postcards. The notes expressed their disappointment with the pandemic and described how my messages had comforted them.
I had been thinking how my grandmother had accepted the telephone as a new way to keep relationships. Like her, I accepted the girls’ preferred way of communication and texted my thanks for their letters. However, even as the lock-downs end, I will continue to send them postcards because everyone enjoys receiving a real letter.
5.Why did the author’s grandmother write postcards?
A.To share her travel experiences. B.To show love and care.
C.To keep in touch with people. D.To kill the time.
6.What did the author think of life without a phone?

C.It was just as usual. D.It was attractive.
7.How did the author feel when receiving her granddaughters’ letters?
A.Disappointed. B.Delighted.
C.Regretful. D.Embarrassed.
8.Which one should be the title for the text?
A.An Old Postcard Album B.New Ways of Communication
C.Love during Lockdowns D.Attraction of Postcards
【答案】5.C 6.A 7.B 8.D

Passage 3
Christina wanted to lead the way back to camp and went on talking cheerfully, asking different kinds of questions about plants and wildlife.
As we walked about halfway down the hillside, she fell over a stone. I jogged (慢跑) up to where she fell down. Suddenly, I saw a lion making a long deep angry sound about ten feet up on a huge rock watching me. I stood still, holding my breath, wondering what to do. Christina was crying down below. I couldn’t shout to her to be quiet, or the lion might attack me.
Then, remembering Dad’s words, I slowly dropped my backpack and took off my T-shirt. With the pack on one arm and the T-shirt on the other, I spread my arms, trying to look as wide and big as I could. Carefully I moved away down the hillside toward Christina, keeping my eyes on the lion.
“Christina,” I called. “Stop crying. Get up slowly and catch my belt. We’re going down the hill. There’s a lion at the top.”
We moved quietly and slowly down the hill. Once back to the forest, with the lion out of view. I removed the sweat from my face with my T-shirt before putting it on, and looked at Christina. Hatless, red eyes, a few small cuts but nothing major. We had hiked for miles before we finally made our way back to our site.
Dad saw me first.
“Where have you been?” he shouted.
“We were so worried,” Mother cried.
“Mommy, you didn’t have to worry. Sean is real smart.” Christina said.

根据最后一段“I caught Dad’s eye. He smiled. At that time, I realized I was a big brother.(我引起了爸爸的注意。他笑了。在那个时候,我意识到我是一个大哥哥)”结合文章讲述了作者肖恩和妹妹克里斯蒂娜回营地的路上,遭遇了狮子,作者冷静应对,让两人脱险,自己也意识到自己成为了一个大哥哥了。可知,D选项“成为大哥的方法”最符合文章标题。故选D。
Passage 4
In my early teens, I was once given a film camera as a gift . On receiving it, I jumped on my bike, headed to Wimbledon Common and took photos, just for me: photos of trees and wildlife. I was out all day. On my way home I spotted a tree lit up by street lighting and tried to capture its beauty. Rushing home, I put the spent film in a special little envelope and sent it off to a photography store, desperate to see how it would come out. I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing.
As I grew into adulthood, that simple, deep happiness gradually faded away. One weekend when I was busy answering the work calls, my eyes caught a box in the corner of the room. I suddenly felt a sense of sadness. The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. I thought I needed a change.
I took out the camera and dusted it down. It was a great joy that it still worked. I bought new film and took the camera everywhere I went. Now it is always on hand to accompany me on journeys, to allow me time to myself. Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me.
The wall of my room now holds all my camera equipment on display, along with photos I've taken. To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.
13.What did the author think of taking photos as a young boy?
A.Inspiring and practical. B.Tiring yet delightful.
C.Exciting and worthwhile. D.Difficult yet engaging.
14.Why did the author stop taking photos according to paragraph 2?
A.He wanted to focus on his work. B.He was struck by sudden sorrow.
C.He attempted to behave like an adult. D.He was faced with increasing pressure.
15.What did the author get from picking up his hobby?
A.More fun in the daily routine. B.New journeys in the wild.
C.Better skills of observation. D.Different styles of photography.
16.What is the best title for the text?
A.Revisiting Lost Childhood Memories B.Appreciating Beauty Behind the Lens
C.Escaping Teenage Sadness with Camera D.Regaining Pleasure Through Photography
【答案】13.C 14.D 15.A 16.D
根据文章第一段中“I took many photos then and loved the fact that when you processed your film you got back colour photos which froze the precious moments, gently encouraging the hobby and the payments for processing. (那时我拍了很多照片,当你冲洗你的胶卷时,你会得到彩色照片,这一事实让我很高兴,它冻结了那些珍贵的时刻,温柔地鼓励了我的爱好和为冲洗而支付的费用。)”可推断,对于作者小时候拍照这件事,作者觉得这是令人兴奋且值得的。故选C。
14.细节理解题。根据第二段中的“The stress growing over these years had pushed the camera from beside my pillow to the box in the corner. (这些年来不断增长的压力把相机从我的枕头旁推到了角落里的盒子里。)”可知,作者面临的压力越来越大,这使得作者停止了拍照。故选D。
15.细节理解题。根据文章第三段中的“Even if the day is full and busy, I can seize some moments for myself to take photos, to observe the world around me. (即使一天很满很忙,我也能抓住一些时间给自己拍照,观察周围的世界。)”和第四段中的“To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight. (对我来说,这个房间代表了我是如何找到幸福的:通过重新连接我搁置的年轻的自己,通过在我的生活中为快乐留出空间,通过创造一个允许快乐机会的环境。)”可知,作者通过重新开始拍照,在繁忙的日程中获得了乐趣。故选A。
通读全文,尤其是最后一段中的“To me, the room represents how I’ve found happiness: by reconnecting to the younger part of myself I laid aside, by allowing room in my life for pleasure to exist, and by creating an environment that allows opportunities for delight.
Passage 1
My roommate Lily was well organised, while I was not. Each of her things had its place, but mine were always hidden somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签于) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Lily got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.
War broke out one evening. Lily came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming. “Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder.
The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Lily answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled (爬) under her covers, sobbing. Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy (同情) rose up in my heart.
Slowly. I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor, even on her side. I got so lost in my work that I even didn’t notice Lily had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried and her expression a kind of disbelief. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, “Thanks.”
Lily and I stayed roommates for the rest of the college years. We didn’t always agree, but we learned the key to living together, giving in, cleaning up and holding on.
1.How is Paragraph 1 mainly developed?
A.By analyzing causes. B.By giving some examples.
C.By showing the difference. D.By describing a process.
2.What made Lily so angry one evening?
A.She heard the author shouting loud. B.She saw the author’s shoes under her bed.
C.She got the news that her grandma was ill. D.She couldn’t find her books anymore.
3.Why did the author clean up the room?
A.Because she wanted to show her care for Lily. B.Because she hated herself for being so messy.
C.Because Lily required her to do so. D.Because she was scared by Lily’s anger.
4.What might be the best title for the passage?
A.Hard Work Pays Off B.Learning to Be Roommates
C.My Friend Lily D.How to Be Organised?
【答案】1.C 2.B 3.A 4.B
根据第一段中“My roommate Lily was well organised, while I was not. Each of her things had its place, but mine were always hidden somewhere. She even labeled (贴标签于) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Lily got neater and I got messier. (我的室友Lily非常有条理,而我没有。她的每样东西都有固定的位置,而我的东西总是藏在某个地方。她甚至给所有的东西都贴上了标签。我总是到处找东西。随着时间的推移,Lily变得越来越整洁,而我则越来越杂乱。)”可知,第一段主要描述了作者和室友Lily在组织习惯上的不同,Lily很有条理,而作者则很杂乱。所以作者是通过叙述两人之间的差异来组织这一段的内容的,故选C。
2.细节理解题。根据第二段中“Soon, I heard her screaming. ‘Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!’ (很快,我听到她尖叫:‘把你的鞋拿走!为什么会在我的床下!’)”可知,让Lily发怒的是她看见作者的鞋子在她的床下面,故选B。
3.细节理解题。根据第三段中“Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy (同情) rose up in my heart. (显然,这是她不应该独自经历的事情。突然间,一股温暖的同情之情在我心中升起。)”可知,作者打扫房间是因为她同情Lily,想要表达自己对她的关心,故选A。
4.主旨大意题。根据全文内容及最后一段中“We didn’t always agree, but we learned the key to living together, giving in, cleaning up and holding on. (我们并不总是一致,但我们学会了共同生活的关键,学会妥协、整理和坚持。)”可知,本文主要讲述了作者与自己的室友Lily的生活习惯很不相同,后来她们两个人之间发生的一场冲突让作者学会了关心室友,学会了如何与室友相处,因此最好的标题应该是B选项“Learning to Be Roommates (学会做室友)”,故选B。
Passage 2
Are morning people born or made? In my case it was definitely made. In my early 20s, I rarely went to bed before midnight, and I would almost always get up late the next morning.
But after a while I couldn’t ignore the high relationship between success and rising early. On those rare occasions where I did get up early, I noticed that my productivity was almost always higher. So I set out to become a habitual early riser. But whenever my alarm went off, my first thought was always to stop that noise and go back to sleep. Eventually some sleep research showed me that I was using the wrong strategy.
The most common wrong strategy is this:You assume that if you’re going to get up earlier, you’d better go to bed earlier. It sounds very reasonable, but will usually fail.
There are two main schools (流派) of thought on sleep patterns. The first is that you should go to bed and get up at the same time every day. The second school says you should go to bed when you’re tired and get up when you naturally wake up. However, I have found both of them are wrong if you care about productivity. If you sleep at set hours, you’ll sometimes go to bed when you aren’t sleepy enough. You’re wasting time lying in bed awake and not being asleep.
If your sleep is based on what your body tells you, you’ll probably be sleeping more than you need. Also, your mornings may be less predictable if you’re getting up at different times.
The solution for me has been to combine both methods. I go to bed when I’m sleepy and get up with an alarm clock at a fixed time. So I always get up at the same time (in my case 5 am), but I go to bed at different times every night — sometimes at 9:30pm, and other times at midnight. Most of the time I go to bed between 10-11 pm.
However, going to bed only when I’m sleepy, and getting up at a fixed time every morning is my way. If you want to become an early riser, you can try your own.
5.According to the passage, the underlined phrase refers to ________.
A.people who stay up until the next morning
B.people who feel sleepy in the morning
C.people who get up early in the morning
D.people whose productivity is the highest in the morning
6.Why did the author want to become a habitual early riser?
A.Because he/she wanted to form the habit of going to bed early and getting up early.
B.Because he/she wanted to see which of the two main schools of thought on sleep patterns was right.
C.Because he/she had found that his / her productivity was higher when he / she got up early.
D.Because he/she was told the high relationship between success and rising early.
7.The author experienced all the following EXCEPT ________.
A.asking scholars for advice on sleeping habits B.getting up early occasionally
C.pressing off the alarm to go on sleeping D.going to bed after midnight
8.The passage is mainly about ________.
A.how to have good sleep
B.how to become an early riser
C.wrong strategies for getting up early
D.main schools of thought on sleep patterns
【答案】5.C 6.C 7.A 8.B
Are morning people born or made? In my case it was definitely made.(早起的人是天生的还是后天养成的? So I set out to become a habitual early riser.(所以我开始成为一个习惯性的早起者。)
On those rare occasions where I did get up early, I noticed that my productivity (效率) was always higher. So I set out to become a habitual early riser.
根据第一段“In my early 20s, I hardly went to bed before midnight,”可知D项:在午夜之后才睡;第二段的“On those rare occasions where I did get up early”可知B项:偶尔早起;以及第二段“But whenever my alarm went off, my first thought was always to stop that noise and go back to sleep.” 故选A。
并且在文章结尾处用句子“If you want to become an early riser, you can try your own.(如果你想成为一个早起者,你可以自己试一试我的方法。)”
Passage 3
He explained, “A portrait is a way of communicating with a person.
I need to learn how to use a computer well because my social studies teacher says it is the one skill you need in every class.

根据第一段“Today was my first day at senior high and it was hard.(今天是我上高中的第一天,很艰难。)” My first day in high school(我高中的第一天)作为文章标题最为合适。故选D项。
Passage 4
I published my newest novel, Haven Lake, in May, and I have another book ready for publication in October. I have experienced more success as a writer than I ever imagined. So why is writing every new book harder than the one before? And how do I keep going despite my fears?
When I published my first book, I had become used to failure. I wrote many unpublished novels for over 20 years before selling the first. Now I'm here. My books have all sold out their advance (预订). The reviews have been largely positive. At the same time, I am still troubled by doubt.
I'm not alone in that. At a lecture I attended recently by Wally Lamb, he talked about how difficult it was to write the next novel after his novel, She's Come Undone, was brought into spotlight. Elizabeth Gilbert received over nine million views for her TED talk, where she admitted that she was afraid to write after the success of her book, Eat, Pray, Love. I don't have as many readers to disappoint as Lamb and Gilbert have, of course, but I worry about disappointing them all the same.
So I am afraid every day I write. I fear writing a book that isn’t interesting to readers. The only thing that keeps me going is this: I write because writing is the thing I love to do. My passion to tell stories makes me create characters. That‘s when I know the writing is true and good, whether readers find the book and love it or not.
13.What feeling does the author mainly express in Paragraph 1?
A.Thankfulness. B.Interest. C.Stress. D.Impatience.
14.What can we learn about the author’s books?
A.They have been as successful as imagined. B.They were difficult to sell out their advance.
C.Most of them have received negative reviews. D.Many of them were not able to be published.
15.What is the author’s main worry about writing?
A.Creating popular characters. B.Disappointing the readers.
C.Finding proper publishers. D.Failing to get success.
16.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Writing forward. B.Writing for publication.
C.What makes a good writer. D.What to think when writing.
【答案】13.C 14.D 15.B 16.A

根据第一段“So why is writing every new book harder than the one before? And how do I keep going despite my fears?”( 那么,为什么写每一本新书都比之前的一本更难呢? 以及最后一段“The only thing that keeps me going is this: I write because writing is the thing I love to do. My passion to tell stories makes me create characters. That's when I know the writing is true and good, whether readers find the book and love it or not”(让我坚持下去的唯一原因就是:我写书是因为我喜欢写作。 故选A项。
Passage 5
Before I came to the United States years ago, I had thought that culture separated people, but I have realized now that cultures are closer than we know. In the United States, there are certainly more differences than similarities when comparing it to my country.
An amazing aspect of culture is the food produced. I’ve always been a foodie (美食家). When I was hungry, there were many foreign signs of restaurants, but deciding which one was a difficult task. I remember reading the sign for “Chipotle” and I had no idea what was served there.
Who would ever have imagined that an experience as simple as trying new food would produce thoughts of cultures? I find it truly beautiful that each culture brings different spices and tastes to the table. I have tried wonderful foods from all sorts of cultures. Each is very unique and atmospheres are also quite interesting and culturally affected. Although the food may taste different, preparation can be somewhat consistent (一致的). Many of the foods I have tasted have had similar mechanisms of cooking
Here in the United States, it can be somewhat difficult to express all of my culture, mainly because there are many different cultures here. But I have found common ground on these matters and have learned to adapt (适应)to different cultures.
I have learned how to live in two cultures. I’m not saying it’s easy, I’m not saying that it’s extremely hard, but it’s all about balance. Each person has their own culture. Life has too many things to care. The theory of “When in Rome, do as the Romans do” is very applicable in most situations. Throughout my experiences here, I have certainly learned a lot about others. Culture is something different to many people but in the end, it connects all of us. Cultures bring others together to create new and exciting situations.
17.What does the author learn about culture after coming to the United States?
A.Culture separates people. B.Culture is from local food.
C.Culture is closer than he knows. D.Food is the culture that unites people.
18.What made the author confused about American food?
A.The choice of proper food. B.The ways of serving food.
C.The different tastes of food. D.The methods of food production.
19.What does the author find beautiful about different cultures?
A.Each culture has unique atmosphere. B.Preparation methods of food are similar across cultures.
C.All foods from different cultures taste the same. D.Each culture brings different tastes to the table.
20.How does the author feel about living in two cultures?
A.Difficult. B.Beneficial. C.Awkward. D.Unpleasant
【答案】17.C 18.A 19.D 20.B
根据第一段“Before I came to the United States years ago, I had thought that culture separated people, but I have realized now that cultures are closer than we know.(在我几年前来到美国之前,我曾认为文化将人与人分开,但现在我意识到,文化比我们所知道的更紧密)”可知,文化之间的联系比我们所了解的更紧密。故选C。
根据第二段“When I was hungry, there were many foreign signs of restaurants, but deciding which one was a difficult task.(当我饿的时候,有许多外国餐馆的标志,但决定哪一家是一项艰巨的任务)”可知,关于美国的食物,让作者感到困惑的是如何在众多餐馆中选择适合自己的食物。故选A。
根据第三段“I find it truly beautiful that each culture brings different spices and tastes to the table.(我发现每一种文化都给餐桌带来了不同的香料和口味,这真的很美)”可知,不同的文化带来不同种类的食物。故选D。
根据最后一段“Throughout my experiences here, I have certainly learned a lot about others. Culture is something different to many people but in the end, it connects all of us. Cultures bring others together to create new and exciting situations.(通过我在这里的经历,我当然也学到了很多关于别人的东西。文化对许多人来说是不同的,但最终,它将我们所有人联系在一起。文化将其他人聚集在一起,创造出令人兴奋的新局面)”可知,作者认为生活在两种不同的文化环境中是有益的。故选B。

Passage 2
The girl didn’t know Diana’s pain or her story, but she knew she was hurting and couldn’t fix it. “She wanted me to know I wasn’t alone and that whatever trial I was going through, there were people out there who cared about me.”

“I wasn't expecting it at all!” Curry said. "He told me he had a great idea and wanted to share it with me. I could tell he was really excited.
Nelson, in association with his high school, set up the Joshua Nelson Leaders In Action Scholarship fund. Each year, $1,000 will be awarded to a senior. The money will come from donations, of which there have been $16,000 so far — for a total of $17,435 at last count, according to the school. With the money already in the fund, there's enough to give out a scholarship each year for over a decade. The first scholarship was awarded on June 1 to Darrell Montalvo-Luna. As the first recipient, his scholarship was $2,000.

C.He was amazed. D.He was indifferent.
3.What value is the author trying to promote through the story?
A.Willingness and courage. B.Kindness and adventure.
C.Forgiveness and generosity. D.Understanding and respect.
4.What does the author want to express in the last paragraph?
A.He likes eating burger best. B.He speaks highly of that snack bar.
C.He is impressed by the snack bar trip. D.He dreams to visit the snack bar again.

7.What can be inferred from the last paragraph?
A.The author felt cold living in school.
B.The author’s dormitory was the warmest place.
C.The author felt warm living with his beloved ones.

8.What does the author want to tell us?

D.People need to grow up on their own, but family plays an important role.

A.Just by crying and laughing.
B.With the help of his brother Josiah.

He explained, “A portrait is a way of communicating with a person.

One of them is a 99-year-old English army captain, known simply as “Captain Tom”, using a rolling frame (滚动的框架) for support when he walks. He had been very impressed by the efforts of the health care system workers. He wanted to join them.

Passage 3
He explained, “A portrait is a way of communicating with a person.
I need to learn how to use a computer well because my social studies teacher says it is the one skill you need in every class.

A.Creating popular characters. B.Disappointing the readers.
C.Finding proper publishers. D.Failing to get success.
16.What can be the best title for the text?
A.Writing forward. B.Writing for publication.
C.What makes a good writer. D.What to think when writing.
